Thanks for another great video. Your maxim should be 'honesty is the best policy!' I too think Talkia has the edge overall. However, I'd be curious to know how Talkia and Speechelo compare pricewise. It seems that Speechelo is currently a $37 one time payment for the standard version (the one reviewed earlier), while Talkia is $69 per month for the enterprise (the one reviewed here). So the comparison is not as straightforward as it at first seems.
If you subscribe to an entire year the Enterprise version is $40 per month (instead of $69. for monthly rate and cancel any month. Up to 5000 words voices per session which is like a 4 page word file double spaced. The annual rate for 1000 words per session (not sure if there is a monthly max.) is $20 per month for full year sign up, or $39. for monthly cancel anytime any month. Also from what I understand both Talkia and Speechelo access some of Amazon's AI voices (by license), just their software interfaces are different as Talkia has some modification controls as shown here.
Interface wise, the Talkia software has a lot more adjustments that work well. Costwise, Talkia is monthly or annual subscription while you can get a lifetime access to Speechelo in their upgrade version (which I got at a one time cost in Nov. sales, however, I am limited to 20,000 characters per month, that's characters not words, as there is a big limit of how many characters per session use). So if you don't need a lot of voice overs Speechelo is more economical if this works for lite use. If you think you need it for regular use and lots of voice over creation from Text then Talkia is probably the way to go with packages for 1000 words per session, or second tier to 5000 words per session for the upgrade. I wrote a 4 page double spaced word script at 11pt. that hit 5000 characters. This one I will voice myself for my channel as I don't have Talkia. For short voice ad work for videos around a minute Speechelo would work and I have that. There are a small handful of voices in AI on Speechelo that sound very good and not robotic for both male and female. So depends on your needs.
Jenn, thank you so much for this! I just purchased Talkia, watched their tutorials, and got nowhere fast. Watching your video made it so much easier. The biggest annoyance I had was the Speak It button. I couldn't figure out how to stop it - forcing me to listen to all I had pasted in before I could make the next adjustment - until you said all I needed to do was click the button a 2nd time.
I greatly appreciate your detailed review and so glad that you demonstrated a number of the voices so that we could get a considerable idea of voice quality. Very useful in helping me make a buying decision. Thanks!
I haven't even started watching the video but seeing your honest review of Speechelo from last year and catching on that your do genuine honest reviews is super amazing! Just subscribed ❤️
Based only on this video, Talkia might be better than Speechelo, but I think it's so marginally better than it doesn't really matter. I have Speechelo. I don't love it, but I need its translation feature for some projects, where the audience is well-aware that it's AI. Also, although I have to go through each voice one-by-one to get a suitable rendition, these AI voices sometimes do okay for very short texts, like taglines and bumpers. The longer the text, the clearer it becomes for the audience that it's not real.
I`ve used Speech Engine's voices for almost 25 years now. I can detect a non-human voice any time and in this review, I believe that the pitch of the Talkia voice is about 50% better than the other. But no way they are any closer to replace human voices. There are though, some instances where both voices are very good.
First thing I would like to say great video on text to speech video, I love your honesty. I was wondering if you ever would do a video on tweaking the voice.like we do in vocals when we are making music, there are a lot of free software one to come to mind is audacity just a thought I know you could do a great video on it. Have an amazing 2022.
Awesome tutorial, thank you, Jenn! Talkia: Easy to manage Interface - love that you can add audio and every other feature aspect. Speechelo has a better sounding voiceover. My vote ... Talkia
Hey thank you for the review, i have a question maybe you can help with, let's say i have a video talking about a book, the ideas and the contents (scripts) are all originally from me, however since I am not a native English speaker, i want to use ai voice to make the video, would it effect my channel from monetizing? Because i heard tts video is not accepted by ypp is that so? Thank you!
Wow.. This type of software has been out for many years and I would have thought they could have mastered this by now, hut it's all just a "little bit better" than it used to be. Other technologies have come so much further..
The human voice is extremely complex. Having AI interpret tone from text is very hard, Just look at how hard it is to properly take tonal nuances from written messages as a human. We still misinterpret meaning just from text as we misread tone. The same sentence can have very different meanings based on tone. I don't see this ever being perfect without human intervention. As long as the user understands that this is a tool in the process and not creation of a finished and polished product from the get go.
Some is in your settings and whether you’re text is natural. If you write like a user manual it will sound like one. If you write like you talk it will inflect more natural. I am impressed with speachello but it takes time to optimize your voice over.
One thing that disgusts me is all the leading Text to speech platforms use alot of the same voices that the other ones have. I've got Speechelo, Textalky, Revoicer, and Mic Monster. My pick for the best is definately The Upgraded MicMonster platform, however the more voices i can get the better with character animation videos for kids.
Thanks for another great video. Your maxim should be "honesty is the best policy" I think Talkia has the edge overall too. However, I'd be curious to know how Talkia and Speechelo compare pricewise. Great video, Jenn. I hate the way both of them sound, personally. But I think they have some merit. The ability to add emphasis on chosen words as well as pauses is certainly a plus! I purchased the enterprise version of Talkia and have been playing around with it to learn what I like and dislike. I'm not sure I would feel comfortable using these voices for a finished video, but I think they are a great tool for mock-ups and such.
Thanks for the comprehensive review. I checked the talkia site and saw the enterprise version includes commercial use while the basic doesn't. Does that mean I need to purchase the enterprise version just to use the vo generated on my monetized videos?
For your own promo videos you do not need the enterprise. But if you are selling the videos with the voiceovers or voiceovers alone to customers this is where you need the commercial license.
@@nathanhutchinson Thanks for the tip! In the last months, I've learned how to leverage the engine Talkia and similar PaaS sites use -- Amazon Polly (a component of the Amazon Web Services suite). And the great thing about it, is that it's free and I have more control over how I want the personas to "speak".
After purchasing the enterprise version of Talkia, I'm seriously disappointed that there is no "Save As" option or "Duplicate" option. I am creating 28 separate audio files, and each time I create a new project, I have to re-select the voice, set the speed, pitch and volume to match the earlier files. (Their customer support said they'd consider these features for future enhancements.) This is basic functionality that Doodly has, so the company is capable of these features. They've just chosen not to program these into Talkia. SMH
Your Voice is the best! Can I use that as base? :) I think Talkia is better for emphasizing words. I almost bought the other it is good that I saw your video. I need this for my animation project.
As per the value proposition offered by the two solutions, in addition to the quality of the output they produce, the significant price difference should also be considered. The video was very informative. Thank you
Would like to see some of these text to speech reviews with uncommon words or how to see how to fix pronunciation. For example, last names, scientific Latin names for genus and species. Also, words like live and live, lead and lead-spelled the same but different pronunciations.
I don't normally respond on RUclips but hey 1st time for everything! We had a voiceover done for an advert for our martial arts classes.. Think like a tv add style, we paid 2/3 years ago $400 then we got the person to edit all the video another $100! For a couple of not to good sounding words that you don't use anyway both softwares offer amazing value.. There not made for words that are hardly used as its target is micro companies that don't have millions to spend on adds.. There are many other uses that could be used with this software.. We have since learn't to edit videos and the mic we use is worth $300... Just saying IMHO.. 😀👍
@@TRIBECHIEFTAIN And another industry out of business which is voice over. I mean after all, do people really need a real coach? Virtual coaches are next, so your industry is going to go the wayside as well. Where does not all end?
@Patriot Voiceover isn't out of business yet! However we have to learn to pivot! Let's be honest the smart phones and SatNav have been using text to speak voices for over 10 years.. We had 3 full time in person academies but Covid helped it reduce to 2! So as long as you can keep moving you will be ok.. 🎯👊🏾
Perhaps the comparison was not entirely fair. However, the Talkia voice sounded way more authentic. Problems I encountered with such voices were the lack in the ability of handling a question (except in Spanish, maybe because in Spanish a question mark is put also at the beginning of the sentence?).
I actually liked the voice of Speechelo better? I was expecting to like Talkia more. The good thing about them both is that you can generate a recording from text, and make some tweaks to improve a little. That said, I couldn't see myself using either for a finished project personally. It might work for some though. Thanks for sharing. Great review.
On the Amazon Poly side of things, Ivy is actually Sally with the pitch and timbre tightened to sound childlike. I love how you can use Talkia voices to make all of the characters from the game "The Vortex" speak. Matthew is "Alpha", Nicole standard is "Gamma" Brian is "Beta" and Ivy Amazon Poly does "Delta AKA Megadroid".
Could you do a review on a stand alone text to speech software? I have heard of a few like "Jaws" this was year ago, but could you let us know if there are any stand alone versions that you can pay just one price for?
Question: Do either of these voice programs allow you to record your own voice and be able to tweek it, like with pitch and inflection, etc? I totally dislike my recorded voice. Too nasal. I would like to make it sound crisp. Like your voice. I really like the sound of your voice. - I would like to add my voice so that people know it's me, but better sounding. BTW, love your videos.
The only software I know of that does that is melodyne. Used in the music industry and I’m assuming is a completely different set of tools technologically speaking. On the flip side, confidence is key! Don’t be so hard on yourself.
Great review of both programs, Jen. However, was it fair to compare the Speechelo basic to the Talkia Enterprise? Maybe a true comparison would’ve been evaluation of both programs at the same level of subscription? Admittedly, I haven’t read all the comments below so maybe this was addressed already. Otherwise, I always look to you for an honest review of products.
Yes this compassion is not fair and I think It is need to fair. I am using Speechelo😉😉😉and tried many other software application but in this price it is great option for lifeline. Additionally You can add more voices in just $47 and It is not a bad deal. I think the voices are as usual not 100 human like but not too bad to emphasis or criticize like this to give a stupid rating for a machine learning program. I am worried it is a sponsored compassion.
Is it fair to compare the standard version of one product with the professional (Enterprise) version of another? Wouldn't a pro version be better (no testing needed)?
Other big problem is doing voice over for 1 voice but keeping a 2nd voice when both talk at same time? Do you know of an audio extraction tool that separates voices?
I think Speecheelo's Man sound is better than Google and Amazon's sounds. I think you should also have tried with Man sounds, but probably you couldn't see man wavenet voiceover for U.S.. You're right with that these are not enough for real human voiceover for now. But in the near future: maybe.
I see you did this a year ago and it might not be fresh in your mind, but do you have any opinion of what might be the best audio recording software where I can record my own voice then manipulate the speed or pitch, add music backgrounds and get rid of tongue trip-ups when I'm reading my own script? I have a radio announcer's voice, but I haven't found great audio editing software and things like audacity just don't do it for me... Thanks
Thanks for the great review, it was exactly what I was looking for, very helpful. I do think for many people, end results aside, the price definitely comes into play. There seems to be a massive difference in this area with Talkio being about $39 a month billed anually ......as compared to Speechelo having the $27 outright cost for basic and that's it......Am I missing something? I feel this is a very important point for people making their decision. I realise they can find this out for themselves just would be helpful to have that information in a review. Thanks again
Just watched this directly after your Speechelo review. Talkia is definitely better straight out of the box, with no experience in tweaking the scripts and voices. My criticism with your Speechelo review is that you did not use the pitch adjustment in conjunction with the emphasize function. While you did use pitch adjustment for Talkia, I see it affected the entire script. Is there no capability to select only a word or phrase to which to adjust the pitch? One final question? One year on, have you been using either of these programs in the interim, and learned any tips and tricks to significantly improve the results you obtained in your reviews? (And, no, I don't expect you to actually address my questions in a reply, but I do thank you for the animated "Subscribe and Like" videos you offered.)
Jenn. I agree that Talkia is better than Speechelo, which I am using now. But Talkia is much more expensive than Speechelo. I might add that now, Speechelo offers a one-time charge for a lifetime license. I know this video is now 2 two years old. Perhaps you should do another review.
I think some aspects should be considered: * Talkia seems to be a bit better in terms of how the voice sounds human. * Speechlo seems better in pricing (single payment)
Please can you do a review of Micmonster ,another text to speach program and compare it to speachelo and talkia. I really thought it was the better of the 3 .Thanks Jenn
Thanks for another awesome video. I'm very annoyed that these TTS companies aren't more honest about their pricing and plans. They'll tell you that there are hundreds of voices but that's their entire library, not what you get or pay for, at first. Like "oh you wanted more voices?, then you'll need to upgrade to our pro plan for X dollars more." Speechelo might be a little cheaper but their initial plan and voice selections are the bare minimum next to free and their UI is awful. Isn't there just a software (not web based nonsense) that I could buy, like other software and pay just one time?
I like both, there are voices that are great, and not so great on both platforms, but went with Talkia since I have more use for English-speaking voices than different languages. Also, the one-time payment option available at the time I got it was irresistable. I still might get Speechelo, but wish it had a demo/trial since the question of how user-friendly the interface is is a big concern. Wouldn't want to buy something, only to discover it doesn't work for me.
Yeah, definitely superior to Speechelo. I sort-of can't afford US$39 (AUD$55) / month... I'm on a pretty tight budget. I'll have to stick with Speechelo, but what I'm hoping to do is manipulate inflections of the recorded words in a DAW (I have Reaper). I would love a video on how that is accomplished, Jenn - you mentioned Audition in the Speechelo video - the DAW doesn't matter, the technique would be similar.
I’ve been trying to find black men’s voices and they’re very hard to find. Most of these people don’t believe in diversity I guess. It’s horrible. I’m a black man, so I want a black voice over !!!!
Interesting review. I know the pro VO who is the voice behind Sally. I've used her many times in the past. Her name is September Carter. This AI voice was used on the Kindle too. Hire September... and skip the app! :)
I have a question. I don't know if a question is an appropriate comment. But is there a way to take a recording of someone's voice and use THAT person's voice as a voice in talkio. For example, suppose a little kid has lost his Mom, but we have a recording of his Mom's voice, could we use his Mom's voice to read the child a bed time story or to help him or her say their prayers.
It will, however, audiences generally don't like videos with robotic sounding voices, so it may make it harder to reach the Sub Count/Watch Time threshold for YT advertising.
Through good headphones, the Talkia voices had a weird “squeak” at the end of too many syllables. Speechelo sounded more robotic. But Talkia was like fingernails on chalkboard, until you added music, then the squeaks *almost* disappeared. Now I can't unhear them. Yuk. Maybe add room tone underneath?
I want to use this for story telling. Like using the voices for characters and such. but of course, its all about how you use the software. and if I use talkia often, I'll get the enterprise version. but thats a big if.

Most people won’t want a monthly subscription.

Up to 5000 words voices per session which is like a 4 page word file double spaced.
Doesn’t look like you can change the pitch or speed on select words, just change all or none. Is their a way, and I missed it?
Is it possible to export the project to other formats? for example MP3. Thanks in advance
she really said "trisha takanawa voice"
Is it fair to compare the standard version of one product with the professional (Enterprise) version of another? Wouldn't a pro version be better (no testing needed)?
Other big problem is doing voice over for 1 voice but keeping a 2nd voice when both talk at same time? Do you know of an audio extraction tool that separates voices?
Would it help to include pause fillers in the script?
I go for Talkia...
Okay, I agree with you once again.
I think Speecheelo's Man sound is better than Google and Amazon's sounds. I think you should also have tried with Man sounds, but probably you couldn't see man wavenet voiceover for U.S.. You're right with that these are not enough for real human voiceover for now. But in the near future: maybe.
Well, I think most of these voiceovers still beat the heck out of any voice-changer applications out there.
how can i get talkia software
Talkia has a OTO of $67 plus an upsell
What about a voice changing program the converts an existing recording into something more professional...
I like it! This would be good for language learning and teaching.
Perhaps you should do another review.
that script though... 🔥
😂
Thanks for the video. Very helpful.
how did you add it to the timeline?
I think some aspects should be considered:
* Talkia seems to be a bit better in terms of how the voice sounds human.
* Speechlo seems better in pricing (single payment)
Thanks for the explanation is there someone who can tell me in the application is there the Arabic language, please?
Please can you do a review of Micmonster ,another text to speach program and compare it to speachelo and talkia. I really thought it was the better of the 3 .Thanks Jenn
Great video. Thanks
Yep, like it, BUT WOW … so expensive if I want to use the files commercially ….
for us that dont want to work online?
Can you please review the imb watson. It's free but I think it does a great job compared to speechelo
Another well-done review. Very informative and clarifying.
Is Talkia just an interface to Google and Amazon APIs? So, with a little Python programming, one can get the same result for pennies?
I like both, there are voices that are great, and not so great on both platforms, but went with Talkia since I have more use for English-speaking voices than different languages. Also, the one-time payment option available at the time I got it was irresistable. I still might get Speechelo, but wish it had a demo/trial since the question of how user-friendly the interface is is a big concern. Wouldn't want to buy something, only to discover it doesn't work for me.
I have Speechelo, the end result is very good but the user interface is awful. It has a pop up at almost every move.
Great vid Jenn. Would you consider doing a Voomly overview and review?
It’s happening soon!
I wish I had not already purchased Speechelo, but maybe there will be updates to add some of those features.
Really thank you talkia is better than speechlo definitely
Thank you for your review. I enjoyed it very much.
Thanks for stopping by!
Great review! Could you please do a review on another new text to speech platform " Human Synthesys Studio"?
Yeah, definitely superior to Speechelo. I sort-of can't afford US$39 (AUD$55) / month... I'm on a pretty tight budget. I'll have to stick with Speechelo, but what I'm hoping to do is manipulate inflections of the recorded words in a DAW (I have Reaper). I would love a video on how that is accomplished, Jenn - you mentioned Audition in the Speechelo video - the DAW doesn't matter, the technique would be similar.
can i use text in my african language in this software and get desired result?
I’ve been trying to find black men’s voices and they’re very hard to find. Most of these people don’t believe in diversity I guess. It’s horrible. I’m a black man, so I want a black voice over !!!!
Interesting review. I know the pro VO who is the voice behind Sally. I've used her many times in the past. Her name is September Carter. This AI voice was used on the Kindle too. Hire September... and skip the app! :)
What would be the going rate to hire a person to read your text?
@@honeytranful depends on the project/audience. But I’ve often paid around $200 - $250. for 90 second to a 2 minute spot that would only air online.
Here is another one that just came our for your to compare (Voice Studio FX) ...lol
Adobe created that tech but is not releasing it. Here’s more info: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe_Voco
@@JennJager Thank you Jenn for the promp reply to my queery and I guess I see the danger of such software. :-)
can you review Descript?
Will RUclips monetize if the audio is from speechelo? Any idea?
