I'm a Kiwi married to a German living in the United States. My hometown is minutes north of Timaru (Temuka). I am so glad you both enjoyed my old stomping grounds 💖
That new playground is fantastic, my niece and her family were there just yesterday. We always used to look forward to going up to the annual Caroline Bay carnival when we were kids.
You forgot the best bit. Walk on past the new playground, up the hill past the small lighthouse then down along the broad, sealed, Waimataitai beach path, part way up the hill, turn right, and walk along the cliff top, (you might see a seal lying on the rocks at the base), to dashing rocks and if you wish, continue in a circle to come back through the paddocks via the quiet streets.
We always want to meet some locals would be awesome, our videos are always behind abit though that’s the problem but on our Istagram we always show were we are currently are on the day 🙂
Wonderful to see your comprehensive coverage of beautiful Timaru. I stayed a couple of times many years ago and Caroline Bay really is such a cool feature. Enjoyed all the locals you guys talked to and always a special treat from your uploads. BrewTiful coffee looked good too! Thanks again guys.
Thanks Mike you legend appreciate the lovely comments always. We do our best to get some interactions always because love listing to a few stories from the locals 🙂
Pity you didn't go inside Carline Bay Hall. It has the only 'sprung' floor in the country! It sits on springs and bounces when people are dancing on it! Feels amazing 🙂
i've been following your channel for a while now and it was a pleasant surprise to see you stopped here in Timaru for a day or two. as usual some great drone footage from you of our beautiful country. keep up the great content.
Loving your journey. Have been following you guys from North to South. I live in Hutt Valley and it's great to visit all the places with you. Enjoy your next destination.
I actually really love Timaru (not necessarily a popular view in NZ!). Heading up to Hanmer for 3 days tomorrow, and hoping to stop for a couple of hours at the Caroline Bay fun fair on the way with my teenage daughter ❤
Glen, New Zealand was settled by the English, Irish and Scots (after the Maori). there’s many people like me Māori,Scot and Irish heritage. My ancestors came on a sailing ship in 1865 into Port Chalmers near Dunedin. Timaru IS underated, some towns like it like that, don’t want to attract too much attention so they don’t get a lot of people moving there
Awesome insight of your background my friend 🙂 we actually read that in a museum from the people who arrived from what dates. Timaru is super underrated and id recommend anyone to move there especially if properties are cheap 🙂
Yep my ancestors are 2 of the original settlers to the Otago area, their names on the wall at The Settlers Museum in Dunedin and the Hocken Library at the university there has several of my great grandfathers diaries of the sail over. Anyway was just mentioning because you always seemed surprised when you saw something that looked like something in Dublin, Are you going to visit the Moeraki Boulders?
My home town ❤️❤️❤️They also have a massive reserve in gleniti and roncarli collage has a massive catholic church that looks amazing. They sill have all the old ww2 bunkers around the edges of the coast line.
A lot of cities and towns in nz have them. Eg; Christchurch has godly heads and the caves below and ripapa island with its massive guns which are still there.
WOW! What a great little city. I've heard of Timaru but didn't know anything about it. It has around 29000 residents. Thanks for posting the vids and hopefully the NZ summer, in the South Island, isn't getting out of hand (hot).
You probably need to know where all the best local walks are, including Salt Water Creek and the Scenic Reserve. It probably doesn't help that the powers that be choose to stick visitors down in a carpark next to the Port which can be noisy, but Caroline Bay is a beautiful, safe to swim in little beach which can be sunny and moody and all the things. Also lots of wild moody beaches either side of town. Also have one of the few remaining high streets with historical buildings that haven't been destroyed by big box developments - if our council etc decided to make more of an effort for tourists, we could do so much better... we need to focus more on environment, culture and history - rather than the lowest common denominator philistinism which tends to undermine this town's potential.
Did you visit the sweet factory at Oamaru, I was down there a few year's ago and visited the sweet factory they had a shop there and you could buy 2kg bags of sweets cheap i brought a 2kg bag of baby chocolate fish and 2kg of some other sweets 😋 before heading back home in the Wairarapa.
We lived in Timaru in the 1990s for a few years thru my husband's work transfer. Our children were in primary, intermediate and early high school and even then we have fond memories of our time there. Great place to bring up children. Perception of Timaru had been unrated for years and I hope that has improved by now.
Haven’t been in Timaru for many many years now. Last time was in my early 20s when I lived in Auckland to see my cousins who live here. I live in Melbourne now. Some things have definitely changed from childhood in the late 90s and early 00’s that big net with the birds and fish etc used to be a butterfly garden. The port has always been there but does evolve. Remember the kids carnival and small trains…. Anyway next time check out the Grosvenor Hotel for pub food and stay over if you ever go back it was owned by Dads side of the family up until the 60s/70s.
Driving south we hit Timaru, and the first thing that made me jump on the brakes was the surprising sight of the Sacred Heart Basilica . Architect Petrie went thru the South designing a line of Catholic masterpieces unfortunately the Christchurch gem no longer exists.Yes,Canterbury and Otago have some interesting constructions fueled by a succession of boom years in mining, wheat and meat and wool industries.
Most cities in New Zealand 🇳🇿 have Botanical Gardens which are free to visit and walk through, the Botanical Gardens in Wellington are very beautiful 😍 🤩
Bye, bye New Zealand. Bye bye to Dubai. We are making our way back home (South Africa. East London). Glen and Mado. Thank you for your wonderful videos and sharing with the world. Keep up the great work. 👍
Oh no we missed your John 🥲very challenging to get in contact with everyone and meet everybody but we do our best and keep people in the loop on our Istagram
Awesome i like your attitude from jakx i live in temuka but i was living in timaru when covid came along and i love that respect calling a women maddem its like calling a women girl out of respect awesome jakx
Glad you stayed in Timaru. Fyi if you want a good cup of coffee in Timaru the best bet is either coffee culture on the main street, black and white at the showgrounds complex, Robert Harris is also ok as is zest. The old bank is generally where all the old people go along with the village cafe. The coffee tends to be a bit weaker to meet the tastes of old people. In my opinion anyway
I agree with your observation about some people not being very friendly. When I walk my dog each morning, I say hello to everyone that passes me. At least 50 percent just ignore me ,often looking grumpy, don't even bother to smile. Weird.
Were you's in Timaru on 24th December? Think I saw you by the big pink chair and christmas tree, told my kids to wait until you got your pics/ video done
Gosh what a bod Glen, you look like a swimsuit model and of course Mado doesn't Mado is just as beautiful. Really enjoy your videos, they have such great traveling trips ❤
I guess the reason fellow campers are not friendly or don’t talk is because they are also international travellers and my not be confident with English language, most NZ on holiday love a good old chat, sad you have not met friendly travellers
i travelled around with my car and dog and met lots of cool ppl but also a lot of travellers in those freedom camping spots do not want to socialise nzers are very isolated and insolar they are not outgoijg like europeans they keep to themselves
In NZ, Christmas time is in the middle of Summer. NZ has a population of 5 million but has the land area of the whole of the UK, this is why it feels underpopulated, NZ is still very much a rural and agricultural economy south of Auckland city. most emmigrants stop in Australia and almost find NZ by accident. Many Scots and irish emmigrated to NZ in the 1850's to the 1950's so unsurprisingly you will find thousands of NZers of this heritage.
We have noticed that and it’s very unfortunate and sad as we always try so hard at times. But most of the time it’s kiwi travellers that we end up chatting too haha
Been saying for years that they need to build bypass for SH1 around the west of timaz. Relocate the smithfield meatworks out washdyke way, upgrade church st etc to conduit traffic to the port. Or even relocate the port further south.
I love your accent Mado - it is interesting how you have picked up some of Glen's Irish accent too😊
😂😂 she’s definitely adapting my accent especially when we’re stuck to each others side 24/7
I live here and super thankful to see people enjoying our lovely city!
same i live here as well
love how much enthusiasm you two have for all the different places big and small in our little slice of paradise at the bottom of the world
Such a great wee town, a must see in South Island travels, thanks for sharing this part of the world with the rest of the world!
So good to see regional towns brought alive by your commentary. I want to visit Timaru!
Go for it my friend make it happen it’s actually really nice 🙂😂
As a person from Timaru, we get so overlooked as a City/town, it is a great place to visit or live.
I'm a Kiwi married to a German living in the United States. My hometown is minutes north of Timaru (Temuka). I am so glad you both enjoyed my old stomping grounds 💖
What a beautiful and vibrant little city!
That new playground is fantastic, my niece and her family were there just yesterday. We always used to look forward to going up to the annual Caroline Bay carnival when we were kids.
Thought it was so cool! Felt like a kid again 😂 hope you are making the most of the great facilities then 🙂
Good on you Mado & Glen - luvin' the Blarney so!
Another great video Glen & Mado. You will have seen more of NZ than any local by the time you leave! Well done 👍
That’s the plan brother haha
Oh wow would have loved to have banged into you guys 😊 Timaru local here. Have been following your travels. Keep safe x
We always want to meet some locals would be awesome, our videos are always behind abit though that’s the problem but on our Istagram we always show were we are currently are on the day 🙂
Nice to see a video on my old hometown. So much has changed but it's still the same. Many fond memories of Caroline Bay.
I live in Timaru. I consider my self extremely lucky. Glad you enjoyed the visit. 😊
One of my favorite ports when in the merchant navy. In the sixties always. Thought of England when.hear
Here

Great video again folks.
Great your vlog guys really enjoy following you's on your travels off NZ please keep it up cheers.
Love watching your journey..hope you enjoying NZ
There is amazing natural walks near wetlands , mountain bike tracks and coastal tracks, I bike there often to the light house
Loving your journey. Have been following you guys from North to South. I live in Hutt Valley and it's great to visit all the places with you. Enjoy your next destination.
Glad you loved my small city/town.
I actually really love Timaru (not necessarily a popular view in NZ!). Heading up to Hanmer for 3 days tomorrow, and hoping to stop for a couple of hours at the Caroline Bay fun fair on the way with my teenage daughter ❤
So nice to see you in my home town. Most people miss us out.
Nice to see you enjoy where I live
I lived in timaru in 2006 for 6 months. It snowed for the first time in ten years! The whole town shut down!
Always the case when a place never gets snow 😂
you're gonna luv Oamaru..
We really did actually was really cool 😎

Oh would of loving to see the bunkers 🙃☹️
A lot of cities and towns in nz have them. Eg; Christchurch has godly heads and the caves below and ripapa island with its massive guns which are still there.
Well that opened my eyes. Might have to go back and stay a while.
Sure give it a go you need to fully explore your country 😉
I'm the same with crystal stores, Mado - I've always stopped at them for the last 30 years, wherever I go! 😅
WOW! What a great little city. I've heard of Timaru but didn't know anything about it. It has around 29000 residents.
Thanks for posting the vids and hopefully the NZ summer, in the South Island, isn't getting out of hand (hot).
Ohh we had some extreme heat the last 3 days and now lots of rain 😅 we will keep pushing through though. Hope you enjoyed our video my friend ❤️
Awesome, I am from Timaru but live in Auckland - it's a great place with an underrated reputation.
Hope life is good up in Auckland my friend, were would you prefer to live if you had the chance to choose in New Zealand?

Wow Timaru is wonderful
La Roche-Posay make great sun creams

We have noticed all the elderly get a discount on the dinner too that’s probably why they go 😂 the coffee wasn’t anything special though.
I agree with your observation about some people not being very friendly. When I walk my dog each morning, I say hello to everyone that passes me. At least 50 percent just ignore me ,often looking grumpy, don't even bother to smile. Weird.
Haha that’s if Peter. I think there all stressed rushing through the country seeing it as fast as possible 😂😅
Kiwis will usually chat Mado, it's the tourists that are silent
True we feel that!
Were you's in Timaru on 24th December? Think I saw you by the big pink chair and christmas tree, told my kids to wait until you got your pics/ video done
I think abit earlier unfortunately maybe a week before that
Oh, I'm a 'ave a chat!' Can be hard to stop lol.
Guys you have to check out the steam punk museum when your in oamaru, and there might be penuins and seals to see also, enjnoy your time in oamaru 😀
We went to the museum but never bothered going into it actually haha 😅
What a nice city Timaru is. My pantry looks very sad compared to the back of your car. Thanks for video.
Mado seems a bit more chirpy today. You've seemed a bit stressed in the last couple of episodes. Glad things are going well.
I live there omg
The waters so cold trust me
Glen's got the Kiwi tan, brown wear the t-shirt doesn't cover.
Ohh yeah need to get that tan all over 😂 farmers tan looks ridiculous haha
I’m from Timaru too😂
Gosh what a bod Glen, you look like a swimsuit model and of course Mado doesn't Mado is just as beautiful. Really enjoy your videos, they have such great traveling trips ❤
Thanks lovely Caroline, always make our day better 😅😂 appreciate you a lot and supporting us every step of the day 😎🙂
😊
Dont forget, free parking overnight for campervans
I guess the reason fellow campers are not friendly or don’t talk is because they are also international travellers and my not be confident with English language, most NZ on holiday love a good old chat, sad you have not met friendly travellers
You got that right, could be a factor! We try so hard but never really get a good chat from the international people haha
All of NZ is good. Nice lifestyle, climate & towns. 😊
Timaru has has a population increase due to migration from Christchurch & Auckland etc. :)
Need to try and embrace it all my friend!
i travelled around with my car and dog and met lots of cool ppl but also a lot of travellers in those freedom camping spots do not want to socialise nzers are very isolated and insolar they are not outgoijg like europeans they keep to themselves
Oamaru is the one though. You’ll love Oamaru.

The most important thing to cover in New Zealand is the Bach of your next(ex blocklayer) sunstroke ☹️💯
Strong headache beware guys find sum honey suckle to sniff😁🌺
I think Palmerston North is the most underrated city in Aotearoa.
Dump tbh
Umm, Gal-larr.
You've stayed in a few under rated towns according to your thumbnails, I think it's fair to say,you haven't stayed in any under rated towns.😊
PLEASE ,please stop at the railway crossings. To many people are killed or injured after being hit by trains at these crossings.
Good call will do next time 🙂
kiwis will definitely chat, not so much the tourists
We have noticed that and it’s very unfortunate and sad as we always try so hard at times. But most of the time it’s kiwi travellers that we end up chatting too haha
Oamaru is so much better .
We're Missing Your Pakistani Videos you guys Must Visit Pakistan Next "Again". . You're Most welcome
Never meet an Irishman I didn’t like. Enjoy your time
Absolutely gentleman thanks Shane! Hope your well
Timaru is not under rated, it is rated one of the most bogan places in NZ
A Timaruvian classic: ruclips.net/video/J2q1y2OD4jI/видео.html
Looks so boring timaru 😏
RUDE PEOPLE!
You are a little bit boring.
You both are very young, 31 and 29 years old. Being alone and sharing a room or even a bed, have you kissed each other?
What would that have to do with you? Creepy mate!
What an odd comment
Mados going to go mental if they have kids can you imagine.....mado.mum.mado.mum.mado.mum..g9d luck girl
Go to Pak n Save in timaru if you're still there, great place
nice town the traffic is terrible though pritty sure they time the lights so you hit a red all the way through
Been saying for years that they need to build bypass for SH1 around the west of timaz. Relocate the smithfield meatworks out washdyke way, upgrade church st etc to conduit traffic to the port. Or even relocate the port further south.
