Kamina’s death hit Simon so hard not just because of how close they were, but because no one believed in Simon more than Kamina did, they would show support of course, but it was clear they had their doubts about him, but Kamina never, not for one single second, ever doubted Simon. Losing that, a person who no matter what happens always has absolute faith in you, is probably the hardest loss a person can go through.

At first I stopped watching for a while because I was pissed and sad, but I just had to finish it. Almost did it again when Kittan died

Always glad to see another video essay on the greatest anime of all time 😊. Nice job with this one. I still to this day use Kamina's motto as motivation and im pushing into my thirties now. Keep on making videos and always strive for more. Make Kamina proud.

Kamina was actually a weak individual, you see this in how readily he gets tempermental when he knows he's in over his head
I don't mean to throw shade on the character. He put made an exceptional campaign statement. But I don't want to overlook what built him over the years
You've got to appreciate the severe impact of what kind of cognitive dissonance exists between _knowing_ the surface exists and being the living legacy of his 'lunatic' father, of whom he decided not to join
There are several roadblocks and shortsighted ambitions that lead to a lifetime of quick tempered outbursts
He gives a pretty good one at the series jump when he goes into not wanting to live life according to terms that are not his. By that statement, followed by other rote automated responses, you can tell he has ruminated over making the impossible possible like learning his times tables
Kamina is not a sound leader all the same, HOWEVER what makes him a powerhouse is that through failure he has lived his share. This makes what he has to say pressing and relatable. The man BELIEVES what he is spouting, which resonates with the crowd
And he doesn't linger on any one ambition either. First the surface, then the moon. He wastes no time trying to legislate or set up garrisons for the next assualt. He has faith that people (Simon included) act with their hearts and be situated accordingly
The reason why his death is so impactful is because EVERYONE sees themselves in his vision. There isn't a world where going up doesn't have him in it, so watching him go down is like seeing yourself destroyed. The dreams of going further, the next big score, belonging to the core. There is no one left to announce the vision
Anyway I started this off by pointing out flaws. But my purpose in bringing them up is that the character isn't so far off from any of us who don't want to stray from the ideal. But Kamina doesn't let that become a deterrent, he doubles down and tries again. Its a very human quality to do what you can in the moment. To kill this is to interrupt a pulse. The very essence of what it means to exist torn down. Abominable
Kamina dying proved to not be the end. It adds to the search for why a character like Simon needed to keep on fighting and bexome true
Again one of Kamina's most powerful qualities was to be virtuous. He looks at Simon uncertain and wonders why he wouldn't be happy to be out loud on the surface. Simon worked breaking the wall and destroying the Gunman, doesn't be want to be amazing all the time? And so Kamina picks up the slack and digs in the people around him to find out what makes them great. Which comes with its own trials like building trust
Remember the first time he let go of the reigns? That was the same Kamina we saw looking down at his feet, but then he remembered whi Simon was and relied on their partner dynamic. Its a lifetime of learning and growth
