I get what you're saying about vice-admirals but the fact is they were only worth building as characters when they could be a plausible threat to the straw hats. Now the crew could dispense with them easily. Hell we're at a point where Luffy can comfortably beat admirals and Zoro, Sanji and Jimbei can stand toe to toe with them. We're reaching the end of the story and you can't just introduce new characters for the sake of it.

hmm, i dont think egghead ruined the one piece villains(the world govt here). As a matter of fact, this arc took place to show why luffy was called a yonko. It showed how well the crew has grown and they can hold their ground against avg vice admirals. As for how saint saturn and the other gorosei looked maybe cartoonish in the manga, their animations might give a different vibe, also to not forget there are many more powerful antagonists other than the gorosei(holy knights, kong, imu, dk what enel is doing, teach etc.) Hence i think that oda still has a lot to offer and the marines too, but its also true that the lower ranked navy officers cant do anything abt facing off against straw hats in a sorry one sided fight

Current vice admirals are not incompetent, each of them would have dumpstered the straw hats in early pre timeskip. Vice admirals are no match to a yonko crew and they are not supposed to be, they are above average officers that provide support to the heavy hitters. The gorosei are quite threatening even if they are not stronger than luffy cause they benefit from their mysterious invulnerability, which means it doesn’t matter if their hits aren’t that devastating and luffy blows them away, as they will tire him out like we saw on the arc (btw people keep underrating yonkou, discounting buggy being a fake one yonkou are supposed to be at the very top, its to be expected luffy can now comfortably engage any character in the setting). This invulnerability is still a very big deal since we have no clue what can kill them, haki doesn’t do it.
