Several things I admired about this
    - Stephen slowing down his speech for the interpreter
    - That flawless, simultaneous interpretation! Wow!
    - How respectful Stephen was to Marie while also staying funny
    - Marie’s aura and her smile. Also, what is her skincare routine?

I agree with you but also I’d like to add that he slowed his speech down for Marie herself too. She catches some of his English, I can see that and Stephan probably knew she understood some too. That was very nice of him.
As you wrote, her interpreter has been great to bring Marie’s spirit into English. She doesn’t miss anything.

@Nicholas Cossins (TKY 3007712) I'd disagree in your saying that "it wasn't that hard to translate," as interpretation is quite difficult (Iida Marie herself discusses that in interviews she's done)! As for what she actually did say in Japanese, 近藤麻理恵 said 「そうですね、皆さん、こう、もちろん片付けに悩んでいらっしゃるっていうこともそうだと思うんですけれども、同時にその心の中のモヤモヤ、こういったことも同時に悩んでいらっしゃることも多いと思うんですよ。」 -- The operative word we're discussing here being モヤモヤ. I would say that even a native speaker would be tempted to interpret 「心の中のモヤモヤ」 as an "uneasiness," "pent-up feelings," "inner distress," "haziness," etc., etc., as モヤモヤ is often translated. However, as we know, in the context of Stephen's question, and how often in the Netflix series it is made clear how the cleaning of the home also helps one "tidy" issues inside of them, I would say that, on the fly, on national television, it was an expertly made, highly nuanced interpretation, to say "clutter in our hearts."

@@kidaria1333 The religious roots make it easier for people to respect it but I agree, it's rude to mock someone's methods just because you don't understand them. Americans are big consumers compared to Japanese people and it might be more difficult for them to consider even thanking things for being there, serving a purpose.
Regardless of the religious belief, every thing that has been made is impregnated with meaning. It doesn't matter if you believe your house had a spirit, it still is good to be grateful of what it brings to you.

Steve Harvey and Ellen need to take note of how to work with guests and interpreters together. You talked to and addressed only the guest and not the interpreter, and the interpreter did the same. You spoke naturally. You looked at her and not past her at the interpreter, and she looked at you during the conversation even while listening to the interpretation. This was such a wonderful and subtle nod to cultural and language awareness. As an interpreter myself, this was SO wonderful to see! Thank you!

Keep only what you really need and treat it with care, love and kindness.

@@Skittl1321 ; I don't think it's the "mystique" bit because even if she became conversant in English, she would still speak it with a Japanese accent which would her stand out. She's probably just not proficient enough in English to speak to a national audience, and she doesn't want to use "broken" English because Americans, in particular, seem put off by that----unless, for instance, it's a French speaker. THEN, they think it's "charming".

@Osw719 There's actually two things going on here:
      1) The interpreter kind of already knows what Marie Kondo will say. They've been working together a while now, and these interviews can be quite repetitive.
      2) Speed does not equate "literal" translation. Sure, she's quick, but it doesn't mean she's saying exactly what Marie is saying. As an interpreter, she has learned to adapt and mold the person's speech. There's really no other way of doing this job.
So for her to translate Marie Kondo is much easier than translating Stephen! :)

Yeah, that interpreter is phenomenal. I'm a translator (written only) and that's hard enough. Interpreting on the fly like that is like juggling: you have to listen and translate in your head at the same time and then speak, and you only get one shot. She was taking notes obviously, but that's likely just jotting down key words. But listen to how effortlessly she spoke in English after doing all of that.
The upshot is that very good interpreters like her make a TON of money.

Actually can be used as a really great way to save and be happier with your money as well. A lot of the things we buy don't really make us happy so using those KonMari rules to declutter expenses really works.

Western people often do it when saying Konnichiwa but it is not accurate.
