Just followed your guide to do this job myself with no experience whatsoever in working on cars. Thanks for the detailed review and great photo angles. Saved me about $700 doing it myself.
That’s awesome! Just let’s you know that you are mechanically inclined and all you need is some guidance/direction. Many thanks for the comment and for watching
That's what I paid 🤦
I can't thank you enough for your video PART 1 and PART 2. I just finished up my change out for an after market aluminum one on my 2014 Charger with 340K Kms. It was filling the V for sure. Your step by step is fantastic and awesome camera angles too. I could not have done this without you so thank you so much. It was a bit hard to clean out that V for me, with only a hand transfer pump, but it worked. Lots of rags too. I wasn't able to get it as spotless as you did. I wiped it all down best I could, hit the exterior with some break cleaner, and, well, It's not like you can see in there anyway. It was mostly dry when I got done mopping. Thank you again for Part 1 and 2. This is the second major job you helped me with. The other was spark plugs needing that upper intake off. Great resources. Subscribed for sure!
6 years later and this video still helpful.
My wife has a charger and it started leaking oil I checked it and it’s the oil cooling housing unit.. my mechanic quoted me 1600$ so I helped the wife by doing it myself. It’s a messy job but ur video guided me thru everything. My automotive skills are probably a 5/10 but I’m happy of myself for completing the job and now the wife is happy that her car runs and we don’t have to share my vehicle anymore lol😂
I have always been told, "Happy Wife = Happy Life", and I have to agree. I can also attest that the opposite is even more true. If the Wife is Unhappy you are EFFED! However unhappy she is she will make sure that you are 50 times more unhappy than she is and that is at the very least.
Respectfully,
~ Jeremy ~
Very well done. I just did this for my 2019 charger. Things I learned. DO NOT skip the coolant drain. Let the car sit over night to let the oil settle back into the pan. I had two major issues, my hose clamp snapped in two and i had to order a replacement. I had tons of coolant over the block. My bad for not lowering the amount of coolant in the system. The oil Cooler I received had the incorrect oil pressure sensor. I had to swap the two, to get it correct. I highly recommend you double check this before installing, and if you need a replacement get a NEW OEM. I reused mine but wished I had checked prior, so i could get the correct one. Takes less then 2 hours to do. I also replaced my plenums with ported/polished new ones. That makes the rest of the work interesting with removal of Fuel injectors. Thought it would be smart to do it all at once.
I’ve had disappearing coolant for a while and no signs of a leak. This was it. The amount of coolant that was puddled under the cooler was insane. You saved me money by switching to a 2015 housing instead of a 2012 and doing it myself. Great video. Mine was a Jeep Grand Cherokee but the methods were all the same.
Can you link the video
Thanks for taking the time to put together such a thorough methodical video. It helped me tackle my wife's 2014 Challenger that was leaking oil and saved me a lot on labor. I didn't have a suction pump but used a large syringe to suck out the oil. I did start by accidently torquing the 5 bolt thinking it was the 1 and backed it out then tightened everything in the proper sequence. Didn't see any leaks, hopefully that didn't cause any problems with the seating of the housing.
I fixed my 2014 dodge challenger today and i cant thank you enough for such specific video ...good bless you man
Awesome.....appreciate the feedback and glad it turned out great. Thanks for letting me know how it went. Make sure to subscribe if you havent already.
Thank You! I just finished my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit 3.6 oil cooler replacement. I had to remove the cowl, wipers and loosen the firewall gaurd. It was the only to get to the 13mm nut bolt on the bracket. Without your video there is no way I would have tried this myself. You are a great instructor!
I just finished changing mine on my 2014 challenger I purchased it from Amazon so hopefully I will not have any issues you video was very helpful
Thanks for watching and for commenting. Glad that the install went great. Appreciate you using the video to take on that job. Dont forget to subscribe.
@@MotorCityMechanic what do you think about msd ignition coil
Dam that's where I got mine hope you have better luck than me
Great video. Thank you for being so detailed, especially with the torque specs and bolt tightening sequence. One nuance that I ran into is that the engine in my 2011 jeep grand cherokee laredo sits about 6-8 inches further back than in the video and to get at one of the upper manifold brackets required removing the wipers, wiper motor, and the cowl, which turned out to be the most difficult part of the entire job.
When it comes to that vehicle I recommend a swivel socket so that you dont have to remove all the wiper related items. Thanks for commenting and for the great feedback/kind words. Dont forget to subscribe.
great video. thank you sir, you did a great job. i replaced mine yesterday on a 2017 dodge challenger sxt everything came out good. i followed your instructions step by step and it was easy. you made it easy. i appreciate the time you spent to create this video to help other people.
Thanks for this video bought my 14 Charger and thought rear main this saved me a ton of labor. This video makes it a cakewalk.
.
Would this be the same on a 2013 Durango SXT
Your work and your teaching skills are impeccable. Thank you so much for these two videos. You provided me with enough information that built my confidence to tackle this job for 1 of my repeat customers. Thank you...
Bro changing this myself I saved $600!!
THANK YOU!!!!
1:01 into the video and I thought to myself this dude knew exactly what I was thinking when I noticed my oil leak! Thanks for this video man much appreciated
Great vid. All I needed to know is weather coolant needed drained and you answered that right away!
Of course I have a 2014... 😐
It needs to at least be drained below the cooler level. I think its a great time to drain the coolant and refill with fresh. Coolant isnt expensive and you will be doing a service at the same time.
@@MotorCityMechanic can I ask why it needs to be drained? I plan on doing this to my wife’s jeep on Wednesday. I will gladly drain it but I just want to know why
Another great example of an auto tutorial. Many thanks on helping make the job go smoothly.
Cant say enough good things about this man excellent explaination not only install but oil trailing back leaking down by trans..thank you very much Sir
Many thanks for the feedback and kind words!
The best I’ve found online yet your attention to detail definitely helped out a lot thank you thank you thank you sir be blessed
Followed your guide, used a doorman all aluminum setup.... If youre close to 100k do your plugs and coil packs. I left off the 4 bolts that mount into brackets off for future ease of work. Great tutorial!!
Just did my 2013. Thank you for posting this, you added some great tips too!
Thanks Earl!
Very well illustrated . Thanks Much DP👍
Thank you for the great feedback
Thank you for posting this video. Just got bumped up from lube tech to technician at work and have to do this job tomorrow. I appreciate how you provided tightening sequence and torque specs as well.
So glad I found you on here and wow, you're a great teacher! I used your videos to remove the oil cooler on my 2014 Jeep Cherokee 3.2L. Now I am wondering if I could get by with just replacing the gaskets. thanks for your videos! Awesome job David!
I SUPER appreciate the video, but I have a couple of questions:
1. Do you have to drain the oil before doing this?
2. What model of needle nose pliers are you using/recommend for this?
3. When draining the antifreeze, is it going to drain the entire capacity (lines and reservoir) or only the amount held in the lines?
Thanks in advance and excellent quality video!
I drain the coolant when doing the repair. Depending on the mileage it could be the perfect time for the coolant to be changed out. Its just the method I use so that I dont have to deal with any coolant coming out the cooler when I remove it. As far as needle nose pliers.....I use no specific brand. To be honest they most likely came from Harbor Freight lol. Thanks for asking and make sure to subscribe. Enjoy the weekend
Thank you very much for the great detail helpful videos! Definitely helped me alot working on my sister's Charger.
I really enjoy your repair videos. Have you ever thought of doing a video on a radiator replacement for 2011 2014 3.6 Dodge Charger?
I will certainly keep it in mind if one comes in the shop at some point. Thanks for the request
Your videos are really well done and informative
Absolutely excellent descriptive video. I feel very confident that I can do this myself. Thank you
Many thanks Tom! Take your time and you shouldn’t have any issues
David, great video and I thought for sure this was my oil leak. It it is dripping right on top of the transfer case on the drivers side and I can’t see where it is coming from. Stuck my phone above transfer case as best I could and everything is dry. The intake area and bell housing have no oil.
1st video of yours I've watched, very well done and extremely helpful. Thank you!
Great video as always I truly appreciate people like motor city mechanic thanks for the very informative content
Thank you so much for this video, did everything exactly to the tee and worked out perfectly! Thank you so much. Took my time with it and got the job done with new oil and antifreeze added in about 5 hours. Had some trouble removing the old sensors since I don’t own a vise but was still able to get them off and reuse them. 👍👍
Great to hear! Thanks for the comment and for sharing your experience
Great vids, i got a ?
Whenndoing the iol cooler, should i do the knock sensors or not. Thnkz for ur help.
Lopez.
Great video. My cooler isn't leaking, but I must replace the oil pressure sensor, code 6dd. I was looking and seemed to think I could get to the sensor from the back. First, remove some things in the way. Cowling, etc. This will result in less cussing, removing the complete upper, or going around the back of the motor?
For that code you will most likely be replacing the oil pump assembly.
Ok. Got it. The pump itself is mechanical except for the Solenoid. I realize that once you have the pump out, replace the entire unit. But most likely, it's the Solenoid causing the problem. Would it be cost-effective only to replace the Solenoid? Thx @@MotorCityMechanic
@@BG-xh5rb personally I don’t want to do it twice…..I would replace the pump assembly with a Mopar to be 100% sure
Thanks for everything. On another question, regarding the 2012 Charger, will I have to remove the upper oil pan and the timing cover to access the oil pump? Thx @@MotorCityMechanic
Looks like my 2017 Caravan 3.6 has this problem, looks like a milkshake in the radiator and overflow bottle. Took it to the dealer, and they did say it was a bad cooler. Was hoping it would be warranty work, but unfortunately it's not (salvage title car). Know the cooler has to be replaced, but they also wanted to replace the radiator, overflow bottle, thermostat, hoses, etc. Said they were "contaminated". Will a proper flush after the cooler is replaced be sufficient or should all of these things be replaced too?
Love your vids, very thorough and informative! Thanks.
I recommend repairing the the cause....replacing the cooler. Then flush the coolant multiple times. It might take 3-4 times until it clears up. I dont see any reason to replace anything else at this time. I understand them being overly cautious but I think you will be fine. Wish there was a good cleaner you could run thru it to help get that mess out....I just dont know whats out there other then doing the flushes as mentioned. Thanks for the kind words about the videos and make sure to subscribe if you havent already.
Thank you for the tips and tricks this was helpful I replaced my gaskets oil cooler spark plugs and coil packs on my 2012 JGC
love the video showed me step by step to replace my cooler assembly, turned my charger on for 10 min gave it a little gas and turned off now it wont start please help what could it be?
Thanks, your da man. My 3.6 feels better already.
Awesome! Glad I could help.
Hi, Dave! Merry Christmas! I successfully replaced spark plugs on my 2014 Chrysler 300 watching your video. I've noticed engine oil presence or may be coolant on V - shaped valley area. I figured I may have spilled some oil there. Watching your video, I confirmed that there is a problem with oil leak. I spotted presence of some liquid there when it new. . Now I have driven 14500 miles, it is throwing OBD ll code as as well - P0305. I went online it's say bad spark plug, fuel injector etc... I don't think so. I believe the problem is with oil leak - vacuum leak causing rough idling and feels like misfiring, etc... I would let you work on it but you're a few thousand miles away. I hope I could replace filter housing myself watching your step by step video. And my 300 due for complete coolant flush anyway and I will replace water pump and thermostat as well. Thanks!
Your welcome and Merry Christmas to you as well. Take your time and you should do okay. Let me know how it turns out!
This is an excellent video! Thank you very much for spending the time and effort to do this right. You saved us some money too.
Is it possible to clamp the coolant hose instead of drain it?
I just did mine this past weekend. I drained mine. Just bought some brand new fresh anti freeze to put back in. I doesn't have any car mechanic experience. But I knocked it out and no more leaks after 2 days.
Thanks for the video. Instructions and explanation were perfect. Just did this on a 3.2L in a Cherokee. Could the oil leak cause an injector to fail? I may have one and have to tear it apart again. Keep up the quality wok. Thanks again!
Great video thank you. Any idea how many hours of labor this job usually charges? Looking at doing one for a side job and I have no idea what to flag for it.
Thanks for the kind words. Depends on the engine.....typically 2-3 hours. For example a 2015 Jeep Wrangler with the 3.6 is 2.5 hrs. Make sure to subscribe.
Great instructional video David, I've been waiting for this one...
Your welcome. Thanks for holding on and waiting.
MotorCity Mechanic 4months i waited sir amazing i won here but scotty boy let me down no disrespect to him 👍
Great video! Unfortunately I didn’t make it past step 1. I turned the drain 1/4 CCW and no antifreeze comes out. Is there a trick? I’d rather not have to pull the lower radiator hose. 2016 Chrysler 300 plastic stopcock.
Had to turn it 1/2 turn.
Hey David, The oil looks like it has been leaking for awhile but not very much at all. I just finished replacing the left exhaust camshaft and two rocker arms ( thanks to your video it was a lot easier to do and for me not being a mechanic and getting into a newer engine like that that it did start right up and the knocking was gone. I let it warm up a bit and let it cool like two times then took it for a slow drive around my complex as I pulled into my parking spot turn off the engine and got saw a trail of oil behind me. Looking under the hood i saw the oil going over the transmission, because i just put a new filter on and new oil in I thought it might be coming from the filter cap so I started it up again and looked under the car and saw a good amount puddling up. Q- What could cause that to start leaking so bad like that? Q- How can I make sure that it is for sure the oil filter housing is there a way to test it ? Q- where do they usually leak from on the housing? I saw two different videos about this but I wanted to let you know my situation to make sure I was not missing anything. Thank you for your time!
Its hard to see where on the assembly it leaks....its hidden under the lower intake so you cant watch to see where the leak begins. eventually it fills the area under the intake and it runs out over the trans and down to the floor. I always feel its from the plastic halves where they are fused together. I have seen any o-ring issues personally. I am not sure why it happened after your repair. Double check your work and if all seems okay.....looks like the cooler assembly be needed. Thanks for using my videos for the repair you tool on. Make sure to subscribe if you havent already.
Perfect video with great step by step
Thanks Brendan! I appreciate the feedback and for you finding the channel. Dont forget to subscribe and check out my other videos when you get time.
Your the go to man,,so I'm curious as everyone may be,,,,,can a 2014 -2017 be used on a 2011-13 3.6l without any problems? What is your real take on this,is this recommended or something that a person should stay clear of doing, what are the pros and cons
Great research for me. I have a 2016 Ram 1500 and have oil all over the transmission bell assembly and pan. Gonna see if this is it when I get my transmission serviced. I'd do the transmission myself but the 8 speed is a pain to fill and has many specific requirements.
Sounds like a leaking oil cooler assembly for sure. Thats typically where you see the oil when it does. Thanks for asking and make sure to subscribe.
Got the confirmation from the technician today when servicing my transmission, was the oil cooler. Got the parts gonna replace it tomorrow. Of course the wonderful 8 speed was a pain to fill. The technician had to stop part way through as the temperature went above parameters when filling it. Of course I also am going to have to replace the front differential soon as well. So if you were able to do a video on that it would be great.
Great detailed video, is the procedure any different for 2014 3.6L Jeep GC? I see some people mentioning something about removing windshield wiper cowl? I want to be prepared for everything. Thanks!
Great Video! I have a 2014 Charger and yes it shows all the signs of the Oil Filter Housing leaking. But before I do the work how can I find out if I have warranty with the dealer still? It’s sad I’m having this issue at 34k miles..
Question 1: Before the installation, you did not talk about depressurizing the fuel lines. How do you do that before starting this job? or can you just go do this job without it?
As mentioned in the other comment. Go back and watch part 2. We don’t take the fuel line off
The MOPAR O'ring in the repair kit # 681913 was smaller in the cross section than the O'ring that came with the after market complete oil cooler unit from AA Ignition. This video is excellent and after viewing two or three times It gave me confidence to remove all those parts. I would like to know the dimensions of that one O'ring. It may be that parts suppliers have sourced the O'ring with cross section tolerance that makes for loose and leaky fit.
Thanks Donald for that info. I havent dealt with any of the aftermarket coolers/filter housings. I soooo hate using aftermarket parts due to the failure rate. I am curious to see one to see the differences that you spoke of. Thanks again for the info and make sure to subscribe.
After installing cooler do I need to flush radiator or just add new fluid
Nice video! Question is do you have to drain your coolant from the system before taking this part apart?
David,in this video you seemed to have emphasized that this type of oil leak is a problem starting on the 2014 3.6 engine. I have a Chrysler T&C 2011 3.6 with approx 144k miles which has recently developed an oil leak that seems to be acting the same as in the video. Did the old style oil filter/coolers ever have this type type of oil leak as well?
Hey David quick question I just did this repair thanks to your video. I’m not a mechanic by any means but my question is when I tried to drain my radiator no coolant came out so I did the idiot move and assumed their wasn’t coolant in my system and removed the oil cooler assembly and coolant spewed everywhere on top of the oil. I used a fluid extractor to remove it all but my question is why didn’t it drain from my radiator
I always recommend draining the oil when that happens so that any coolant that mixed with the oil will be drained and replaced. As far as the drain....it might not be fully open or the outlet might be clogged. You can try blowing compressed air thru the outlet to see if it starts flowing then or possibly insert a small wire to see if you can physically clear out any thing that might be blocking it. Thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe
Hey David your video saved me alot of $ but I have one problem I mimic your video down to the T in my 2016 dodge challenger and at the end my car wouldn't start just got a clicking sound. Any suggestions thank you in advance.
Hey great video I have a question on my wife's 2011 dodge journey crew how tight do I tightened the oil cooler housing bolts and is there a pattern on which ones to tightened first and the intake manifolds and if I drain the coolant will air get into the system if so how would I release air out of the coolant after refilling it I also liked and subscribed to your channel your set up on this car is similar to the journey if you could let me know Thank's I appreciate it
Thanks Sir, is it recommended to disconnect the battery before I attempt this on my 2014 charger???
Good video... question, do i need to drain the oil before starting to take apart the intake manifold??
I replaced the oil filter housing on a 2014 jeep wrangler which was the issue with massive oil leak. But it is still leaking oil no where close to what it used to. Any ideas? Thanks
I have a 2012 Dodge Charger 3.6 I have oil in my coolant and it is really thick like peanut butter.. when I change the oil cooler do I need to try and flush the system first or do it after I replace it
Replace first otherwise we will keep getting oil into the fresh coolant. It may take flushing it a few times to finally get it all out.
Happy NewYear!!! So i still have the sludge in my coolant system after numerous flushes. What did u use?? 2011 Charger currently overheating.
I have the '18 Pacifica and need to replace mine so not sure if ill do the Oem 100% sure fit or aftermarket aluminum as i hear those can leak to even Doorman as the bottoms arent surfaced perfectly flat etc,,. I hear the Oems only leak because oil change guys over tighten the filter cap..
Hey David great video as always what is the book time for a job like this thanks
Is this a similar procedure for the 2014 grand Cherokee?
Very close for sure. If you follow the steps in the video it should all go well l. Subscribe and check out some more of my videos
My 2014 jeep grand started leaking oil. At first I thought it was the RMS but the stealership pointed out it was this exact problem. I had 15k left on my power train warranty but the stealership says that they are not going to honor it because I have a supercharger installed. Like the supercharger has anything to do with the oil cooler... Makes me so mad. I like to work on engines so I'm going to do the work myself; I will be better informed going in to the job thanks to your detailed video!
Thanks for watching and for reaching out. Sucks that they didnt cover it. Follow the steps in the video and you will be good to go. Make sure to subscribe!
The sensors that goes into housing do you know off hand the torque specs for them
The vehicle I have is a Chrysler T&C 2015 touring L Vin # 2C4RC1BG7FR534240 134,000 MILES Q-You did say that this was pron for 2014 and that the replacement part would not leak so why do you think that mine did? (2015) just bad luck or what? Hope to hear from you soon and I do appreciate all that you do Thank you!
I see others leak but the most common are the 2014. They have revised the part numerous times so the newest revision covers the common leaks. This latest version was made well after the 2014-2015's hit the road after leaving the factories. Thanks for watching Michael
I change the oil cooler oil filter adapter like you do just i have a cuestion i need to chage oil engine ?
choche videos There is no need in changing it unless your close to the oil change interval/mileage. You did just put a new filter in so changing it wouldn't hurt however. The choice is yours. Check the oil level if you don't change it and make sure the level is correct. Thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe
Awsome video. I'm about to do this on a 2015 jeep jku. One question, is it the same torque specs?
Thanks. The specs will be the same, just take your time and you shouldnt have any issues. Make sure to subscribe.
Great video...I think mine is leaking coolant so I'm going to change this weekend
Take your time and all should go well. Thanks for commenting and make sure to subscribe.
Is this part known to leak coolant
My mechanic told me that I need to think about changing mines on my 2013 Chrysler 300. He showed me a small spring and some small black part and said that the housing looks like it’s going bad . He quoted 960 dollars to fix it
Is this reasonable?
Thanks for the video just replace mine yesterday in my 14 charger
Thanks for the video! I fixed my 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan yesterday. 166k miles. Used the supposedly updated 2014-up style housing.

I have 2012 Chrysler 200 limited and I’m going to replace oil cooler, can I use upgraded part and if so can you give me the part number please?
We have a Dodge Charger 2013 3.6 Liter with 78,000 miles. We have a mix of oil and coolant coming into the coolant tank. The oil and coolant are leaking from under the car on the driver's side. I can see some liquid around the oil cooler assembly. What could be the problem and how can it be fixed? Also, where can I buy an oil cooler assembly, and what is an estimated price for one? How much should be the cost of labor for replacing this part? Do I also need to change the oil, even though it was recently changed?
Do you drain the oil first just had an oil change
My ‘12 Charger 3.6 is at 116,000 miles and I noticed that its been getting up to about 230° on the temp gauge in the EVIC recently... Coolant has never been changed... can that be an issue?
How many hours should this job be? I have a 2014 ram 1500 3.6 and I'm shopping for a mechanic and trying to make sure I don't get screwed.
I have a 2013 chrysler 300 2013 in KSA. This is third time since i bought the car that oil has come into the coolant and i have to change the oil cooler and flush. What could possibly the reason be. Looking forward to your expert advice. Tia
I recently started this job & didn’t drain the coolant before disassembling the oil cooler is it to late to drain now?
What happens if you don't drain the coolant? And can it be reused?
Any tips on freeing up the red tab from fuel injector? Also what do you do if it breaks off while lifting?
Hey fellas, I really appreciate the detailed video! I had a bad leak so I did this project yesterday. I took a trip to the grocery store and back and noticed a small leak underneath. Also, I opened the hood to check and there’s some puddling on top of the bottom pan. Any ideas on what it could be?
Late reply, but that might have been a second area where oil was puddling from the cooler housing leak, and was likely continuing to run off.
Nice video! Just subscribed to your channel. I do have a question I just changed my oil about a 1k ago. Can I wait till my next oil change? Or should I get this fixed ASAP I keep checking my oil level doesn't seem to change
Thank you
Is the process more or less the same for a 2014 RAM 1500? Same motor and all.
I paid 330 for the engine oil cooler, i bought it myself at the agency, paid 85 dollars for labor, i just googled tje part and saw it for half tje price, of course its not oem, im wondering if the cheaper part would have worked tje same. My mom always said the cheap parts always come out expensive
I have to agree. I go with OEM parts when ever possible. When they find an issue they fix it and revise the parts.....aftermarket parts, they just keep making the same part by the thousands and if it fails they will give you another, of course the labor won’t be free the next time for sure.
My coolant assembly was repaired got the coolant assembly from Amazon well it broke again more like a pour instead of leak. How much would this repair cost or is it better to by a another car
Which one should I go with if I buy the part on Amazon? 2014 Chrysler 300s awd v6
Can you replace the oil filter housing on a 2011 with the newer style filter housing? I have a broken tower in the housing, the bypass valve is okay but the tower itself broke at the bottom. I see the new ones use a different filter with its own valve.
Evening Matt. To answer the question.....yes you can. The issue that comes up is someone trying to install the wrong oil filter. They will get a filter based on the year and not know its wrong and still try to install it. So you will have to educate them on what it really takes but yes it can. Thanks for the question Matt and make sure to subscribe if you havent already.
Question 2: Should the Intake manifold ports and contact surfaces be cleaned out and installed dry? This video should have demonstrated how to remove the lower intake manifold off to clean the intake ports. I watch these videos for other visual details that is off topic, although you did not talk about how the condition of the surface, seal and seal wedges and inner intake port walls should appear, I hoped I could have seen it in the video but can't be easily seen. I could not tell if all around and inside walls if the surface should be smooth, clean and dry like a new plastic spoon. The surface of the ports of my lower intake manifold looked like hard caramel candy, dark brownish with a texture of a brown paper bag and the seal and seal wedges on top look a little wet.
Ronald I feel your reading too much into these videos after reading the multiple comments. I could include every little step but then the video would be 4 parts abs be an hour long. Then I would have people complaining about that. Now if people were willing to pay to watch these videos I would be more then happen to give every little spec of info including tools needed, time it takes, price of parts.....etc. remember these videos are free and so is the advice.
@@MotorCityMechanicI understand it's free advice. Not asking for longer videos. That's why I like and subscribe to your channel. I only mention what details I was looking for in your videos. The only question I ask was should the Intake manifold ports and contact surfaces be cleaned out and installed dry? Port surfaces looked like hard candy, seals and wedges a little wet. Thank you for responding.
Can the drained coolant be reused after changing the housing/cooling unit or will it be contaminated?
I have a Dodge Journey 2015 and the dealer told me the oil cooler needed replaced. I thought they were trying to pull a fast one. I never heard of an oil cooler. I had to look it up.
Should u change the oil and coolant after replacing both
I would recommend it. Filter housing comes with a new filter so it would be perfect timing for oil change plus some coolant may have gotten in the oil when removing the old housing
Can you do this without changing the oil
Can the oil cooler cause a coolant leak instead of oil inside that cavity?
Will a bad oil cooler cause the engine to run hotter?
Hey David, Excellent video!! Bet you're also called 'Mopar Maniac'!! Badge I wear with honor! I used a 1/16in wooden dowel to reach down beside the engine oil cooler, it came out clean no oil on it, I didn't have any oil streaks on my bell housing either, but any time I stomped on the gas I would get that burnt oil smell in the car. Upon even further investigation I found the Left rocker arm cover gasket had just a thin coat of oil on it, not quite a leak just oil seepage. Any idea how to seal those 'permadry' gaskets, other than just torquing the bolts down?
You can recheck the tightness but I dont think you will notice anything. For now I would just monitor it and see if it becomes anything. Otherwise you may need to replace the seal if its getting onto the exhaust.
Thanks for the feedback. Whats the recommended oil for 2014 6.7 Diesel trucks?
Morning. The recommended oil is 15w40. A good brand is the Shell Rotella. Thats what I would use. They make others that cost alot more but in the end...the Rotella does the job with no issues and doesnt break the bank like some others. Thanks for the question and for watching
Will opening the drain plug removed coolant completely inside engine and coolant reservoir as well as radiator?
It wont removal all of it.....some may stay in the block in certain areas. Some engines have bolts you can remove from the sides of the block to remove all the antifreeze. It will however remove the majority of it.
