I'm a digital reader. I like to get the first omnibus of the series I like. As a physical representation. It's like decoration for me. This hobby can get out of hand real quick. Me just getting the first omnibuses of the series I like I'm already 600$ deep. And I haven't even bought the out of print or Japanese only omnibuses. Like damn. I can't imagine collecting the whole thing.
Thank you 😁 one tip i forgot to mention was that if you do have a mismatch collection focus only expanding 3 of the series you got and they hit 4+ volumes expand the rest
When collecting my main focus is primarily on the condition aspect. I'm not a fan of yellow pages. It's makes it feel older and I'm aware that's inevitable, but I feel that good maintenance preserves their condition. 1. Invest in quality shelving units and organize to your liking. 2. Purchase a humidifier or dehumidifier (based on needs) to prevent pages from yellowing. 3. Buy blackout curtains to prevent sunlight from oxidizing pages and move shelving units to places where sunlight doesn't make contact. 4. Consider investing in higher quality editions such as Full Metal Special Editions because general manga pages have a tendency to yellow.
It's funny cause I made the same mistake of buying a duplicate volume a few weeks ago. I've been Collecting HxH, and I'm currently up to 12 in order (I have a few scattered volumes from the CA arc, and all of the manga only content collected too), and I unknowingly bought another volume 12. It also sucks cause Volume 13 and 14 were literally right there. And quick tip: If you bought a duplicate volume at a Barnes and Noble, you can refund it if you got a receipt
Regarding figures, I recommend getting a glass case instead of putting them on shelves bc the glass doors can prevent ur figures from getting dusty. Otherwise make sure to dust ur figures regularly! Instead of larger figures I like putting mini figures/gacha toys in front of manga, it's cute and doesn't take up much space
i am starting to collect manga after years of reading digitally, so thanks. i view manga as decoration more than anything personally although not everyone thinks the same. i will definitely be reading my physical manga though, but decoration is at the forefront :) i have two empty bookshelves built into my upstairs room, so i think my manga will fit and look nice in them, as well as any box sets + figures i get! 😅
thats amazing! I started off digitally too and made the transition to having physical so i completely understand but definitely fill up them bookshelves lol
With your last point on tracking what you have got to prevent duplication. Personally I use Google sheets with different tabs. There I can keep track of complete series, series I'm I'm actively pre-ordering, series I may pick up if I have free cash, stalled series and dropped series as well as actual pre-orders This means I don't duplicate an online pre-order with an in person order. It means I don't get things I have already got and if I find myself in a bookshop with some money I can buy something I need rather than being stuck Google sheets means it can be maintained on the pc at home and accessed on my phone when out and about😊
@@itzjustcjit actually wasn't to bad because entries are at the series level rather than the volume level. So even something like One Piece can be added in a couple of minutes. With ~1100 volumes it took maybe four Saturday afternoons initially and then it's just a case of having the discipline to keep it updated. Doing the same thing for anime took way longer!
Thank you 🥰 the manga collecting journey is always a great hobby to have and im sure that it was a ghost...defintely not my wife and kid walking upstairs 😂😂
Do you read manga online or at least check few chapters before buying physical copy or do you usually go blindly into it? And do you plan on buying any other manga made by Inio Asano besides Goodnight Punpun?
Great question! 80% of my collection i have read online for instance i have been reading sakamoto days ever since Chapter 1 was released and i love the series so much that i picked it up physically but manga like alice in borderland i blinded pick just to have something new physically and rn im reading deadman dededededestruction by Asano
yo what are those shelvs on the left there? i noticed cd display shelves or dvd shelves fit manga really nice and im wondering if you had a link or knew where its fro
I didnt realize at first that they were dvd display shelves until recently 😅 but I'm happy i got them because they do display manga very well my only gripe with these shelves is that i cant put my SIG sized manga on the top shelf or else i have to squeeze the rest of my manga and lose some space at my bottom row other than that its amazing 🥰

I'm the same 80% of my collection i read digitally but reading them physically just hits differently 👌🏾👌🏾☺️
Bro, on God, I have spent almost a grand on the berserk omnibus'😅😅 and that's not including the other series in my collection....
Definitely guilty of the starting multiple series so now I have a whole mismatched section of the shelf lol. Good tips and video!

I highly agree i am for one embraced the yellow pages but for anyone that doesnt like them that is the best solution 😁 Thanks for the tips 👌🏾

I highly agree! looks a lot more classy in glass cases and mini figures dont take up too much space
I definitely don’t have as many as you but I use an app called Reading List so I know what I have. It is so helpful.
OOOH! So reading list keeps track of your manga?
@@itzjustcj Yes you scan the barcode and you can add the book to “finished, to read, or started”. And it’s free.
I'm going to have try that out cause that sounds awesome 😁

The way i keep track of mangas I own is to use google sheets! I can double check which ones I already have on the app
I really like your shirt! (Huge Spy X Family fan here) Great video!
Thank you 🥰 believe it or not they actually have these shirts at walmart and i got one for me and my wife
Do you have any SpyxFamily figurines?

That is a great option but it would take a lot of time and effort but it is a smart way to do it 😊

@@thempstead I really appreciate the dedication to keep your manga organized!! You get 10 billion points for effort!!😎
Great tips! Now I really need redo everything hahahaha!!! It’s true the manga itself is a piece of art.
Thank you! ☺️ And dont be afraid to reorganize your manga from time to time it helps pass the time and makes your setup feel fresh 😁
great video, want to start collecting now. Them ghost noises lol

It's such an expensive hobby loll, thanks for the tips 🥰
You are welcome! And yeah i agree 😅 that's why i plan on helping as much as i can 😁
Unless you are ready to run it like a library dont get that big.
All depends on how you want your setup for me personally i want it as big as a library 😊😊

@@itzjustcj thank you dawg

Dvd shelves are way too restrictive for manga collecting
