Really clean piece of work. For all of you who challenge the solder, the solder holds the imprint in place while it's being riveted. LIKE, DUH! I will say as some one else did, the way you drilled the handle scared me. A very nice approach to fabricating the imprint, good job all around. Your video goes in the saved file.
Man, I was thinking on making something like this for me and for my father, but every video I saw people were making it with really hard and thick metal... That way is way simpler! Thanks a lot for the video! :D
Thanks man, thats what I like to hear. My whole goal is to inspire other makers and share what I know. Send me a pic when you're finished making yours.
Denny Sickle Thanks for the encouragement! I've been inspired by so many great makers on RUclips and that drives me to do the same. Stoked to have to as a subscriber!
Dude. Fantastic job! One of the best ideas I've seen for making a branding iron since you didn't dremmel out a chunk of metal like the rest of folks. The design is really awesome too, I was drawing up my own design with a shield and initials and came across yours and just felt so inferior to your design haha! Keep up the awesome work, earned an easy thumbs up and sub
Thanks for the love man! I actually first tried doing it out of a solid piece and couldn't get the level of detail I wanted, then I got this idea. Don't feel bad about your design, my buddy is a graphic artist and he does branding professionally, he designed my logos for me! I can't take credit for that. 😜
Compared with engraving out unwanted deep background, piercing process worked well. Time and effort in cutting out process probably would be on par. For hands which do not do engraving, this is best solution using soft metals.
You should consider being a jeweler. Great detail on how it's made. Some Gold and a few Diamonds (Cubic Zirconia's ) would set this piece off . Nice Work !!
No worries! Never hurts to ask. Try and make one yourself, give it a shot. You'll be surprised what you're capable of. I was, I honestly didn't know if I was going to pull it off when I started making it.
I think this is the best example I have seen, I like the fact you did it by hand and not use a Dremel. I just don't know where I would buy that chunky Brass you used. I live in the UK :)
Thanks, yeah I got my material from the scrap pile at a shop I worked for that builds stuff for theme parks and casinos and places like that. This was scrap from a giant brass dreamcatcher that was cut on the water jet that we built for a casino in California.
Wonder if screws would work better than the rivets? Specially if they were tapered head and then sanded smooth and of course they would have to be brass and very carefully predrilled to keep them from breaking off. Or perhaps full depth rivets? Nice result if the rivets hold! :)
Terry yeah that would certainly work. It might be a better solution for a larger iron as the one I made is pretty small at about 1.5” across. The rivets are still holding up fine. In fact the solder is still there as well. Every time I heat it up it just solidifies again once it cools.
Nope. I’m just regular dude like you with a full time job. I don’t make these and sell them. I just made one for myself using scrap and filmed it to inspire others to do the same. Feel free to use my techniques if you want! Free! No charge!
Doosha Khaboosha I got it from the scrap pile at a shop I worked at. The thick portion doesn’t have to be brass though. Just use steel. You could use some thick aluminum and it would hold the heat better.
Thanks for the great video! Been trying to find a simple way of making a branding iron and this is one of the best so far :) Excuse a beginner question but what's the orange/pink stuff you put on at 4.07?
Awesome! Thanks for the encouragement! That pink stuff that I put on was the flux for the solder. It actually wasn't pink thats just how it reacted to the brass. If you haven't soldered before I would suggest watching a few videos on it first, its a bit tricky to get good results.
Houtje Boom - Be Creative Haha! I was waiting for someone to catch that. Yes it does and I realized that as I was soldering it together. That is why I also put the rivets in to make sure it never moves. I guess the solder was good for holding it in place while I set the rivets.
Great question! Yes the mushroomed head that is created when peening the brass rod does get sanded off but the rod expands within the hole and that's what keeps it in place.
billy19461 It was all scraps from the shop I worked at. Check your local metal supplier though. They may have a drop pile you could buy small pieces from.
Why not just start with a thick block, paint your design with enamel, and acid-etch it? No soldering, no sawing, no pinning, no trouble? Your workmanship is AMAZING--don't get me wrong. It just seems like "craftsmanship for the sake of showing off how clever you are", while completely disregarding actual use of the final object, or the value of your time as a craftsman...
I didn't think of doing it that way. I've never done any acid etching before. Seems like it wouldn't etch deep enough to get a positive enough logo image to burn into the wood clearly, so thats probably why I didn't even consider it but I may be wrong. It would definitely work as an ink stamp. Thats how the old school printing presses work. I'm curious have you ever made an acid etched branding iron? How does it work? That would be sweet if it works. I usually work with what I have the way I know how, and film the process to inspire others and hopefully impart some knowledge along the way while entertaining. I do like getting recognition for my skill and what I produce. I think every craftsman does. Recognition and acceptance are a basic human need. :)
Making videos you mean? I know it’s been forever since I put up a video. Life and family takes precedence. I still make stuff just find it hard to make videos with full time job. I might make a new one soon. A show and tell type of a project I just finished for my truck. 🙂
I realized my oversight as I was soldering it. That's why I put the rivets in afterwards. If you have enough chocolate it may make a pretty good fireguard though.
You did make one and what did I learn? I learned that I can't handle the music but left the sound on in case you can speak. I also learned that you don't speak, sorry for the handicap . Looks like you found a way through life without speaking . Good for you, keep up the good fight. To be fair I don't know if you spoke or not. I stopped watching at almost 3 minutes.
LOLOLOL!!!!!!.....I don't think this guy understands the term "doing it by hand" while he has every single power tool and machinery to do the job for him. If he would have slow down the video...i could have learned to use one of the machines 👎👎👎👎
Made by hand as apposed to CNC machine. My videos aren't really teaching videos but if you learn something along the way awesome. Apparently they aren't your cup of tea which is cool, move along then instead of spreading negativity.
although there might be a small problem with reheated soldering but this idea is just perfect for leather works. Thank you very much for this!!

Awesome! I'd love to see how yours turns out. 😀
I want that exact brand . Very nice
Why have I never thought of this!!
You don’t have to. I did it for you. 😁
The best video and tutorial for sure.
Love it,
First video I have seen that looks doable. Cheap piece of brass and brass rivets, love it.
I can even buy brass shapes if I wanted.
Thank you
Nice man! Glad you like it. Let me know when you make yours I'd love to see it!
I do need one but never got around to making it. Liked your design and way of making it. Great work.
Thanks man, shoot me some pics when you get around to making one I'd love to see it. I'm on Instagram @Jermwood
This is the best one I've seen and includes a technique that is original to me. This is the method I will use. Excellent job. I subscribed.
Thanks man, thats what I like to hear. My whole goal is to inspire other makers and share what I know. Send me a pic when you're finished making yours.
I got a good FEELING I stumbled on to a channel thats going to be one of the great ones....Keep it up and u sir are one of a kind...

Well props to him for the design and props to you for the creative way to make it 👌🏻

Good job. I was able to make one that works on 12 volts

No link to that tap & die set?! Great work, thanks for the inspiration.
That´s real work by hand - thumb up!
Thanks Man!
Ok just thought i would try and ask. great work.

super
best one I've seen yet..great job👍
Thanks so much! 🙂
What's that little hand scroll saw called. Thanks
Google Knew Concepts fret saw. You’ll find it at Lee Valley Tools or other woodworking stores. 👍🏼
Beautiful work
Can i Order one thru you?
Nope. I’m just regular dude like you with a full time job. I don’t make these and sell them. I just made one for myself using scrap and filmed it to inspire others to do the same. Feel free to use my techniques if you want! Free! No charge!
Where do you buy that thick copper brass piece from?? No one seems to sell anything outside of flat thin sheets
Doosha Khaboosha I got it from the scrap pile at a shop I worked at. The thick portion doesn’t have to be brass though. Just use steel. You could use some thick aluminum and it would hold the heat better.
@@JermwoodMakes thank you

Surprised with the work, great idea on the brazing part!
Great looking branding iron.... doesn't the soldering get loose when you heat it up again?
Houtje Boom - Be Creative Haha! I was waiting for someone to catch that. Yes it does and I realized that as I was soldering it together. That is why I also put the rivets in to make sure it never moves. I guess the solder was good for holding it in place while I set the rivets.

Well done!
Dooode! That is amazing.
Thanks for this and the JFK inauguration speech.
You're welcome! 👍
good job
well done!
La soldadura no se cae al calentarse para estampar el timbre
Great job on the piece but now I'm motion sick from watching the video.
Where did you get your brass?
billy19461 It was all scraps from the shop I worked at. Check your local metal supplier though. They may have a drop pile you could buy small pieces from.
What were the rough dimensions of the branding iron?
The Artificial Human About 1.5” x1.5”

Music sounds like Sega Columns
are you still doing this? :)

I cringed when you drilled the handle! 😵
It looked worse than it was because the clip was sped up. 😉
Wow!
How thick is that brass sheet?
I think it's 3/32" thick.
What is it with the Loud obnoxious music on You Tube channels?
Great work & a super job. Thank you.
Its the royalty free music we have to work with. If we use good music it gets copyright issues. 😕
Excelente! !!
Liked and subbed.
I wasn't sure I could make it thru your video< because looped music drives me insane!
The tutorial is ferry good, the sound/Music...😡
Just push mute bruh. 😒
exxxxelento.
I can't believe you soldered it.... what next? the chocolate fireguard?
I realized my oversight as I was soldering it. That's why I put the rivets in afterwards. If you have enough chocolate it may make a pretty good fireguard though.
It certainly held it in place for the riveting. Cool idea I thought.

Jeff Womack wow sounds like you were expecting something that I wasn’t trying to deliver in my video. Sorry to disappoint you.
What I learned from this video: The Democrat Party is, sadly, an entirely new ball of wax.
Thank you for sharing!
Probably the most annoying music ever on a RUclips video. But nice work
ZERO260/// What, you don’t like creepy carnival music?
Cool video.....but, maybe you could find a more annoying soundtrack for the next one....
Ever heard of a mute button?
the music is a kak..lol.
What the hell is a kak?
Don't really need the creepy music.
LOLOLOL!!!!!!.....I don't think this guy understands the term "doing it by hand" while he has every single power tool and machinery to do the job for him. If he would have slow down the video...i could have learned to use one of the machines 👎👎👎👎
