But there’s clearly a lot of people who like Superman and want to see his journeys. And I think it’s objectively not true to conclude that people don’t find him interesting. There’s not many fictional characters that have stayed as relevant for as long as he has… honestly, I can’t name another character that has been going as hard for as long.
The Namek Saga is easily the best. Every aspect of the arc from the moment Bulma, Krillin and Gohan arrive up until the moment Namek explodes is brilliantly written and extremely entertaining to watch
There are many masterfully written moments in Dragon Ball that rely on Goku as a flat character, especially in Z. Goku knew better than to fall for Raditz's bluff but still released his tail, leading to Goku's death; but with this death Toriyama expanded the DBZ world by following Goku into the afterlife and created interim stakes for Gohan as he sought to survive in the wilderness and learn to fight alongside the earthlings. Goku arriving mid-battle against the Saiyans is a top moment in DBZ; there is no anticipation of his arrival, no Z fighters putting everything on the line just to hold off Nappa while Vegeta looms in the background, no Kaioken or _spirit bomb_ if Goku's been with the Z fighters for the whole year of prep. Then Goku, *who should've known better than to give a Saiyan a second chance,* let Vegeta go, setting up the board for the next arc and the _masterclass_ of storytelling that is the chapters from the decision to go to Namek up through Vegeta's clash with Frieza to kick off the huge final battle. It was _Vegeta's_ solo run on Namek that made the interplay between Frieza and his forces, the Namekians, and the earthlings so tense and captivating; and he isn't present if Goku doesn't pull a Goku. Even the realization of the peril he put Gohan in against Cell hits so powerfully because Goku is "flat". After all they've been through, Goku never interpreted Gohan's apprehension in fights as a dislike for battle or causing harm to others. When Piccolo was like "that n*gga Gohan don't even like fighting cuh" it shattered Goku's *whole world view.* We _know_ how tremendous the guilt he felt was, because it was something he never felt before. The shock of sudden empathy and perspective was so great that Goku sacrificed himself in attempt to remove the threat to his son, and neglected to be brought back to life as to not rope Gohan and the rest of the Earth into calamity again. All these moments and more exist because Goku is a flat character: he _had_ to be. Because against demons, deities, aliens, or androids, when someone calls on him to save the day, they need the Goku he's always been, the same curious and extraordinary boy Bulma met in chapter one: the strongest thing you've ever seen, with the magical ability to inspire hope even when all seems lost.
He definitely needed to explain his points more because I don't agree with some of the placements of his list but then again it is his own opinion. I was hoping you'd react to the whole thing though. I'm a BIG GT lover, not for its story but the ideas/concepts that it had. The MAIN concept that could/should be used is the concept of the Shadow Dragons or something coming from the misuse of the Dragon Balls. That could be an amazing ending for the entire series
I think the buu arc is overhated personally It had a lot of plot twists and hype moments and transformations that I really liked I LOVE vegeta's sacrifice, i love gohan's powerup, vegito is fucking awesome, i actually like ss3 I think how f'ing long the arc was also allowed for there to be a lot of good shit Also I personally ADORE the slice of life esque style of gohan being in high school, it absolutely reeks of dragon ball's incredible charm

Then he didn’t talk about Cell having the BEST villain introduction in dbz, his mysterious origins, transformations, using Vegeta’s Pride against him, his theme, pushing gohan to ssj2, Father-son Kamehameha and Cell screaming “I am Perfect” while getting obliterated, none of that, Bro was rushing through those arc rankings like crazy😭😭 Edit: I do agree on his takes about the Sayain Arc and Frieza arc tho.

Frieza Saga isn't my favorite arc of DBZ/DBS, but it is second. This entire arc was just amazing, from Vegeta realizing that he isn't on Goku's level to Krillin dying, which in turn gave us the most iconic scream and transformations ever, and everything in between. Cell Saga is Z-tier, bruh. The introduction of Cell was just beautiful. Vegeta being emotional, Goku's speech to his son, and Gohan's SSJ2 transformation were just flawless. The Tournament of Power arc is Z-tier and is my favorite arc because from start to finish, I loved every second of it. Plus, it gave me my second favorite character, Jiren, and my favorite transformation ever, Ultra Instinct.
I think it was raditz that said the tail is the key to unlocking a saiyans true potential. If Goku still had his tail it would have been easier for him to master SSJ
Thats also prolly why they all rank so low. When taken individually they don’t stand on their own merit but when take all together the entire storyline cooks
I know I'm kinda late but, Yuri Lowell the main character from "tales of vesperia" is one of the best flat characters I've ever come across. In fact he has an argument to be the best and the game is also fantastic, you can play the game on PlayStation or Xbox so dealers choice.
IDK why he divides the greater Cell and Buu arc into 3 parts but just considers the entirety of Namek as one lol. Either you divide Namek into Namek, Ginyu and Frieza mini arcs or you just count Cell and Buu as one big arc, can't have it both ways lmao
My favorite from DBZ is the saiyan saga, and my favorite from DBS is Granolah saga (which is basically a modern version of saiyan saga and namek saga combined).

I'm not saying its an exact 1 to 1 copy of the saiyan/namek sagas, but there is indeed a lot of similarities which is why i love the granolah arc.

Buu Saga always so downplayed 😭. Personally it's my favourite, I agree it's not objectively better than Saiyan or Frieza, but allow me to point some things out: 1) Straight up Majin Vegeta vs. Goku, literally the most balanced fight in DB ever (also one of my favourites). 2) Whole Vegeta arc happens HERE. Vegeta's "sorry" during the Cell saga was an entrée, the Buu saga gives you the entire feast and it's amazing. 3) Goku and Vegeta officially become friends and rivals in the way we all know, their chemistry is also the best in the serie for me. Every interaction they have is interesting or funny, and that's technically through the Buu influenced period (Wrath of the dragon and fusion reborn also show their chemistry). 4) Buu is arguably the most unique villain in the serie for his techniques and a nice change of pace as an antagonist. There's no emperor, no android, no god, just a force of nature that wants destruction. 5) Goku ssj3. 6) Fusion. 7) Literally the best send-off they could've had. Dramatic, resolutive, final. 8) The gags like Buu's shenanigans or Vegito vs. Buu or Goku and Vegeta inside Buu (extremely underrated filler imo) are well done. 9) Kid Buu vs. Goku goes so extremely hard it's crazy. 10) Goku to me feels like is at its peak. Powerscaling is perfectly fine in the Granolah arc. Better than Moro arc powerscaling imo, everything related to characters powers makes sense. Only powerscaling i didn't like in the moro arc was Daikaioshin being Beerus level tho.

Tien Shinhan Arc (8.5/10) GREAT 6. Buu Arc( it’s a roller coaster but the beginning and ending are good..8/10) GOOD 7. 21st Budokai (8/10 put into motion the true roles each character will play for the majority of the series and the true beginning of what we know the series to be) GOOD 8. King Piccolo arc (7/10, the highs are good but this arc drags like shit more than remembered my last time watching it) SOLID 9. Red Ribbon Army(honestly I like it more than King Piccolo but it doesn’t have the highs of that arc 6.8/10) COOL 10.Emperor Pilaf (not fair to compare to the rest, completely different tone) good for what it is COOL 11. Buu arc is one of my favorites, but i understood the flaws. However, ain't no way it should be in the mid tier. I think high good maybe low great depending on the reasonings.
I feel like the arcs in dragon ball are being under played. There are so many things happening in those arcs that you can even called them separate arcs to being with and even the arcs that where mentioned should be elevated because you tend to forget about the story beats leading up to the conflict. I think one of the greatest reviewers of dragonball as a whole is mistare fusion , who even if I don't agree with everything he says, I believe his descriptions of dragonball have been the most accurate so far.
So I made that first comment upon seeing half the vid, now I’m seeing the end?? What’s with the super glazing, bc I never thought I’d say that? You’re not bugging Sage, both halves of the Buu arc clear Revival of F. I do think that the distaste for the arc of Bog is a bit much, though. When you compare it to the movie, it does everything the movie didn’t and vice versa. The movie has the quality, the better hands, and the shock factor of Super Saiyan God. The anime still managed to play off of this, having a moment where Goku and Beerus may have destroyed the universe (which later gets shown to be moreso a thing from two Destroyers fighting), as well as being able to regenerate from what seems to be ritual exclusive, but mainly just putting the plot together, and I think that is severely downplayed. The movie had absolutely ridiculous claims that even Toriyama was regretting the moment it dropped. If we ever trusted the %s, then Super Saiyan God really was trash, and Goku was wrong about Vegito. While there is consistently a moving goalpost with Beerus, that would be at its second worst around this time, bare minimum. I do think Super’s ideas could top Z, but that’s only it: ideas. Z is clearing a lot of Super with a lot of itself because splitting canons inevitably is splitting the creative minds that could have given us the potential. It’s not gonna really work, and we have proof of that. You can’t go one Super argument without the canons being at least referenced. Shit, lowkey the Saiyan and Cell sagas might be peak tho

Yea, I can't believe I didn't explain it. But my issue with the Cell Saga is how he achieves his perfect form, and just his perfect form in general. I enjoyed his first two forms a lot more because I think they accentuated just how creepy and weird him showing up in the current time was. PLUS, Goku should've ended Cell with the instant transmission to otherworld. If that couldn't take out Cell, it's a little hard to think that anything else Gohan could do at the time was good enough
Buu arc is good. Not great and I love dragon ball and want to out it there but it rlly did wash Gotham’s character. It 100% makes sense but it still kinda sucks. Nah, getting mad at battle of gods being top 3 is insane. BOG introduced great characters and concepts, a new level of power as well as a cool new transformation, really funny jokes, amazing fights, and to top it all off one of the most raw goku moments in the entire series

Why isnt Trunks allowed to be relevant? Like he did nothing after killing Frieza in Z, and he did basically nothing in the manga's Goku Black arc. He got asspulled in the anime, but at least he was fucking relevant. If they had Trunks going into HTC with Goku for a day that would've explained so much, but instead the only time he gets to be anything other than a cool bystander is when he gets asspulled.

9. Red Ribbon Army(honestly I like it more than King Piccolo but it doesn’t have the highs of that arc 6.8/10) COOL
10.Emperor Pilaf (not fair to compare to the rest, completely different tone) good for what it is COOL

Buu arc is one of my favorites, but i understood the flaws. However, ain't no way it should be in the mid tier. I think high good maybe low great depending on the reasonings.

I feel like the arcs in dragon ball are being under played. There are so many things happening in those arcs that you can even called them separate arcs to being with and even the arcs that where mentioned should be elevated because you tend to forget about the story beats leading up to the conflict. I think one of the greatest reviewers of dragonball as a whole is mistare fusion , who even if I don't agree with everything he says, I believe his descriptions of dragonball have been the most accurate so far.

Ok I’m all for having ur issues with cell arc, but it being 3rd tier and in the same tier as emperor pilaf is outright diabolical
So I made that first comment upon seeing half the vid, now I’m seeing the end?? What’s with the super glazing, bc I never thought I’d say that? You’re not bugging Sage, both halves of the Buu arc clear Revival of F. I do think that the distaste for the arc of Bog is a bit much, though. When you compare it to the movie, it does everything the movie didn’t and vice versa. The movie has the quality, the better hands, and the shock factor of Super Saiyan God. The anime still managed to play off of this, having a moment where Goku and Beerus may have destroyed the universe (which later gets shown to be moreso a thing from two Destroyers fighting), as well as being able to regenerate from what seems to be ritual exclusive, but mainly just putting the plot together, and I think that is severely downplayed. The movie had absolutely ridiculous claims that even Toriyama was regretting the moment it dropped. If we ever trusted the %s, then Super Saiyan God really was trash, and Goku was wrong about Vegito. While there is consistently a moving goalpost with Beerus, that would be at its second worst around this time, bare minimum.
I do think Super’s ideas could top Z, but that’s only it: ideas. Z is clearing a lot of Super with a lot of itself because splitting canons inevitably is splitting the creative minds that could have given us the potential. It’s not gonna really work, and we have proof of that. You can’t go one Super argument without the canons being at least referenced. Shit, lowkey the Saiyan and Cell sagas might be peak tho

Yea, I can't believe I didn't explain it. But my issue with the Cell Saga is how he achieves his perfect form, and just his perfect form in general. I enjoyed his first two forms a lot more because I think they accentuated just how creepy and weird him showing up in the current time was. PLUS, Goku should've ended Cell with the instant transmission to otherworld. If that couldn't take out Cell, it's a little hard to think that anything else Gohan could do at the time was good enough

Buu arc is good. Not great and I love dragon ball and want to out it there but it rlly did wash Gotham’s character. It 100% makes sense but it still kinda sucks. But has some of the greatest moments in the franchise and brought in fusion.
I also really love majin buu. He’s so fun, super buu is ok but kid buu is just HIM. Bro on that black Air Force energy 😊

Nah, getting mad at battle of gods being top 3 is insane. BOG introduced great characters and concepts, a new level of power as well as a cool new transformation, really funny jokes, amazing fights, and to top it all off one of the most raw goku moments in the entire series

Why isnt Trunks allowed to be relevant? Like he did nothing after killing Frieza in Z, and he did basically nothing in the manga's Goku Black arc. He got asspulled in the anime, but at least he was fucking relevant.
If they had Trunks going into HTC with Goku for a day that would've explained so much, but instead the only time he gets to be anything other than a cool bystander is when he gets asspulled.
Because, like Gohan, Trunks shouldn't have to be retaught lessons that he learned in the past with the gang.

DID NOTHING AFTER FRIEZA?? This man went back to his future after training in the time chamber, killed both 17 and 18 with EASE and Killed the main villain Cell BRUTALLY. Then, they end it off with him looking up to the sky thanking Goku.
@amari648 narratively that's impactful yes but he went back to kill a weaker version of already irrelevant androids and a power creeper imperfect cell. That stopped being impressive half way through the cell arc. Not to mention, besides that, he did nothing during that actual Cell arc.
