      Sandeep Singh Savarkar was a deshbhakt. A tactical and practical nationalist who offered actual, concrete solutions for equality like a uniform civil code. Not an impractical idealist like Gandhi who simply propagated and set unattainable, utopian yardsticks of equality not rooted in or disconsiderate of the ground realities and factual circumstances. Only to extend his own personality cult. And at the cost of the majority way of life. How was that equality? Besides, Gandhi wanted to give dominion status to the British. Hence, he never got Kalapani while Savarkar did. Savarkar spent more years in imprisonment than the combined number of Gandhi and Nehru.

      @@GSS77712 Sawarkar was a maafinama bhakt. Sawarkar was not the only one who got KALAPANI. Many revolutionaries from Punjab were also given Kalapani sazaa. • @GSS77712
      @GSS77712 3 года назад

      @@SandeepSingh-ey4ih Strangely, all those who claim he "apologized" or "begged" are never able to point out the same. 'Coz petitioning doesn't amount to "grovelling". By that logic Shivaji Maharaj, Ram Prasad Bismil, Jawaharlal Nehru, S.A. Dange all grovelled in front of the British. Point me out a single passage in any of his petitions where he said "sorry". If you like others are selectively quoting words like "I beg" or "your obedient servant" and taking those words literally, I pity your ill-education. 'Coz that is not begging. That is simply common, legal lexicon that lawyers use in their legal capacity and Savarkar being a lawyer did the same. When you use terms like "I beg your pardon", or "I beg your attention", "I beg your assistance", "I beg your help", or "Yours obediently", in your formal correspondence, are you actually begging in that case? Savarkar never begged. His sentence itself was arbitrary and whimsical. He was the only freedom fighter who got 50 years at Kalapani, the harshest prison of the land. None before him, after him or with him got such a long sentence, that too at Kalapani. So Savarkar like Shivaji Maharaj merely took a tactical retreat. Upon coming out, he continued fighting discreetly against the British as the British had restricted his political activities.
      He continued writing a lot of literature against the British, invoking Bharat's ancient Dharmik glory, history and heroes. A lot of his literature got banned too. He was the one who gave the idea of INA to Netaji Bose. He even contributed from his personal funds to INA, also recruiting youth for INA. He got another British officer assassinated after he came out of prison. He was given the harshest ever sentence at Kalapani for a reason. The British were scared of him. While Nehru actually begged for mercy while being lodged at Nabha prison, despite getting all the 5 star facilities there. Savarkar was entitled to pension legally as his entire youth was lost in imprisonment and opportunities of earning a living were lost with age. As were other political prisoners. He earned mostly from the royalties of his books and in any case, the pension he received was from all the wealth the British had looted from India as it is. So it was a ghar wapsi of a kind. And Savarkar donated from the same to Netaji Bose's INA. It was Gandhi and Nehru who wanted to give dominion status to the British and at their behest, publicly denounced Netaji Bose as a war criminal. While Savarkarji supported him throughout. And no, he never advocated the two nation theory. In his speeches, Savarkar clearly stated that even though Hindus and Muslims are two different nations unto themselves, both can co-exist under a common, uniform civil code, scrapping all personal laws and law boards for different religious communities, without any appeasement to any community. He actually advocated true equality through legitimate frameworks while Gandhi and Nehru kept up a sham of secularism without really providing any concrete, long term solutions for the same. And pseduo-secularists continue the same legacy to this day. Savarkar is far too complex to comprehend for people who've been brainwashed in leftist laterines.

    Thanks for this interview. It would be interesting to have Vikram Sampath on your platform who despite his scholarship and claimed objectivity seems to be out to reduce Gandhi and lionise Savarkar. I have heard at least three of his interviews - one along with Shashi Tharoor in India Today Conclave , one along with Aditya Mukherjee on Lallantop and one on Satya Hindi platform with Ashutosh. It was painful to see how in all cases the other side could not contest well the perception Sampath is trying to create about Savarkar. Mr. Rajmohan Gandhi has brought out that difference very well. I would be more than pleases to see you interviewing Sampath after this one. It's impotant that he be exposed in his insinuations in the garb of scholarship. Gandhi's greatness lies in his ability to own mistakes genuinely and ability to grow in thoughts throughout life correcting himself at every step , acknowledging his opponents. Despite differences between Ambedkar and Gandhi people like me cannot help but respect both the contemporaries because one can see the difference as a result of where they came from but what made them come together at the end was a genuine concern for empowerment for all including the most marginalised. I am mentioning Ambedkar because Sampath uses differences between Ambedkar and Gandhi throughout to justify Savarkar.

    Savarkar was undoubtedly a charismatic person and a revolutionary in his own might and he had contributed immensely to the freedom struggle through his unparalleled literature during the first half of his life. However, after he got released from the cellular jail, his entire approach towards the freedom struggle changed and he disgracefully sided with the Britishers in the subsequent years. He also received a pension from the Britishers and even pleaded for an increement. This ultimately makes him a controversial figure at the best and a traitor at worst!!!!!

    I can't believe a seasoned politician like Mr.Rajnath Sing could make such an irresponsible and unbecoming statement of the sort. And still intriguing is that whether he did so out his conviction or to Please someone for his own political survival. I am ashamed that the Indian politics has reached at the nadir of its decency. Mr.Rajnath Sing is the one among the few bjp politicians whom I respect and consider standing tall in the politics of today, but with this he has fallen to the level of his metor. Well, let it be as it is; I am so happy I could hear and see Mr Rajmohan Gandhi live and could get to know his views - an authoritative and convincing one. As Mr Thapar said, Mr Sing may be listening, and pondering upon too - I hope, in the interest of the nation.

    Today we have understood the strategy of Modi Govt since 2014.
    When ever Modi is targeted for his incompetency some minister suddenly come out and gives very absurd statement knowing that it is a lie.
    Whole indian intellectuals and historians start debating on the topic and public focus is diverted from govt incompetency.

    The Wire must then also expose Mallikarjun Kharge's totally false claim that Dr. Ambedkar wished to add the words 'Secular' and 'Socialist' to the Preamble of the Indian Constitution, and to further the muddy claim that he was unable to do so as the 'conditions' were not conducive. This is entirely at odds with the transcript of the constituent assembly proceedings !
    In fact, the suggestion to include these two words came from one Prof. K. T. Shah (representing Bihar) where he opined that 'India should be a Secular, Federal, Socialist Union of States'. Dr. Ambedkar turned down the proposal by explaining as follows ;
    "What should be the policy of the State, how the Society should be organised in it's social and economic side are matters which must be decided by the people themselves according to time and circumstances. It cannot be laid down in the Constitution itself, because that is destroying democracy altogether."
    Open challenge to Karan Thapar to speak with similar loudness of the false claim made by the then Leader of the Opposition. Let him also throw light for posterity as to how surreptitiously these words were inserted into the Preamble of the Indian Constitution. Dr. Ambedkar suggested that 'it must be decided by people according to time and circumstances.....'. What a wonderful time was selected, and the most opportune circumstance created to insert these words - right in midst of the bloody Emergency when all of the Opposition was jailed ! The darling Congress was yet again under foreign influence viz. the Soviets in getting these two satanic words in the Constitution which was a complete misfit to the inherent culture of India viz. Spirituality. The subsequent governments too lacked the spine in the face of the over bearing influence of the Soviets then.
    The main purpose of inserted these misfit terms was to cause a cultural fracture in India. Going by the dictionary meaning of the word Secular, it means 'disconnected from religion and spirituality'. Does this sync with the inherent culture of India where the rivers of so many religions flow through since ages ?? This was outright mischievous, which formalised vote bank politics, which the Nation saw in full bloom through the overturning of the Shah Bano judgement in Parliament by none other than the 'Darling Congress'. Before this event, the word Hindutva was an unknown. The Hindus were in a state of complete 'Secular Slumber' till the 'Darling Congress' woke up the sleeping giant of Hindutva. Will Karan Thapar ever speak all of this and try to get it between his two ears that Hindutva is only a 'counter' and will remain as one as long as the Secularists whom he loves to cling by, continue with their vote bank politics. It maybe that the BJP is now doing the same thing. But, if the truth is not accepted by the 'intellectuals' there cannot be any reconciliation, which intellectuals like him should work towards. But, unfortunately the intellectuals and the Media have made the choice, been openly partisan and are just another breed of dogs barking in the streets of the Nation. Betterment can only come about when intellectuals think and act as intellectuals. Vande Mataram, Jai Hind !
