    HF stands for Hands Free and is used when the amp is connected to the horn ring-main for on/off and noise change operation.

      Extreme Garage usually they have the box on HF and have a trigger underneath the horn, so it triggers when they press the horn

    • @gtafan1722
      @gtafan1722 4 года назад

      Extreme Garage when using hands free it will usually be setup for function of
      Single Tap - tone change,
      Hold (while siren is active) - electronic air horn (siren horn),
      Double Tap - for deactivation of the siren regardless of which tone is currently active.
      Some may also have a function where the horn can be held to act as the manual use wail or the “manual siren” with the siren inactive.

      Extreme Garage Also meant to include that the “rad” function stands for radio. When a radio is connected to the siren unit this function will allow for all radio traffic to be played over the sirens speaker outside of the vehicle. (they’re usually right next to each other in most ERV’s so it’s an easy connection to wire)
      It can be used in a variety of scenarios,
      officers will occasionally use it at large party’s to help make everyone aware of their presence and allow officers to make announcements to the crowd without returning to their vehicle simply by use of their portable radio.

    Siren is a Whelen Beta 112, RAD stands for RADIO when fire appliances are at a scene the often play the vehicles communications radio through it.

      Yep. We called it Radio Rebroadcast. I have installed many of these in police fire and ems vehicles with my old job. I also have one in my vehicle that I use for SAR. I don't use the siren for obvious reasons being volunteer. But the horn part and the PA do come in handy.
      My microphone started to not work today (why I'm looking at this video). But these are good units. However, I do prefer sound off brand, but they are so expensive.

    I have a 2011 crown vic with one and the mic died today, I use it to play music while in traffic since I'm on the road all day... people get a real kick out of hearing music coming from a old cop car...lol

    Great to see you getting the original equipment working again. It all adds to FUJ’s period appearance and provenance.
    That deep note you hit just after fixing the handset (that red button?) is the one that I used to hear Manchester fire crews using to clear traffic. I think its called a Bronx Bark or Bronx Honk - I’m sure some serving firefighters will put me right on that.
    The name comes from where the sound originated from - New Yorks fire engines.
    Keep up the great work!
    Looking forward to seeing FUJ improve with each video.
    BTW: Love the sound of that engine under hard acceleration - sounds magic!
    There is a fire station just around the corner from where I live, so if I am able to, I always stop and listen to it going out.

    The pops on power-up are just due to no speaker protection relay on the amplifier

    Looks like your siren is a Whelen 295HF100. RAD is for "RADIO" if you wire the radio (Or any audio output really) to the siren, it will rebroadcast the radio over the PA in that mode. There should be some wires (I don't know which one) that you can hook up to external momentary switch (Usually the horn switch) that then will function the same as the "MAN" button in "HF" mode.

    Just found your channel & been watching the fire engine series, just a note to say I'm glad you sorted the audio as it was frustratingly quiet up to this point (how appropriate too that you fixed the engine's audio and your video audio in the same episode haha)

      how would you connect it to the horn

    • @seanb440
      @seanb440 4 года назад

      When you have the block that goes into the back of the box there is a wire as far as i can rember off hand i think its blue and that goes to the horn relay. HF stands for Hands Free so the driver dont have to take there hands off the wheel. Hope this helps

    Not sure what the model of the siren is, but a lot of fire services use the traditional Whelen Alpha. However some brigades such as: The West Midlands, Northamptonshire, Kent, Oxfordshire and Staffordshire (just to name a few) do use this particular siren. Nowadays the siren is wired to the steering wheel horn 🙂

    Hey man, I have a whelen siren as well and had the dumbest thing of a neg./pos. wire cross for about 2 seconds and assuming fried it. I'm wondering is that repairable if that happens or is it donezo ? All fuses are fine and can't see any blown capacitors, Thanks.

    • @bradsmith1934
      @bradsmith1934 4 года назад

      Take it to an Electronics Repair Shop, like a Stereo Shop. It will be repairable, but much more complicated then "a Fuse" Probably looking at a $30-40 cost to get it right, then have him (or her) connect a permanent non reversible Plug.

    1:11 rad AKA radio is for the police radio so they can listen to It using the P.A systemyou have to plug a police radio in to itits for if there in a major crime so all the ROZZERS can hear the police radio
