I like how Penelope flip the roll on Colin in S3!
She was basically trying to get married to lord Debling! She was basically showing Colin that “im going to make you live up to what I heard you said about me to your homies; that you will never talk to Penelope featherton!”
Penelope changed her wardrobe and pounce on them haters!
She even had Colin to help her get a man! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Penelope was busy trying to get married to Lord Debling and compete with Cressida that she wasn’t caring about the Bridgertons…. Eloise and Colin wasn’t even on her level on what she was trying to do, and that was to marry Lord Debling, and when he was going to be away for a year… she can be lady Whistledown in PEACE, make her money… while she sit on Lord Debling money! “BOSS”
However you said the book was different…. I’m going to have to read the book, I might not like Colin after I read it though 🤣
Yes, Penelope wasn't thinking about colin ass or Eloise, and I love that for her, especially that she put colin in the friend zone and treated him as such. And book colin is a little more forceful with pen so yes there are parts you will dislike him
I liked your review even if I disagreed with some things. I am in the middle of Colin and Penelope's book "Romancing Mr. Bridgerton." One big difference between the show and the book is that in the book Penelope is 28 and Colin is 33 or so compared to be being 18 and 25 respectively. For me I don't see the toxic Colin you described. Instead I see Penelope settling into being a spinster and accepting who she is. Colin is tired of drifting and is ready to settle down. He has just returned from his latest trip, and they are finally re-acquainting themselves. Yes, a lot of the scenes from the book are in Season 3 like the scene where Penelope asks Colin to kiss her because she is afraid she might die before being kissed.
I wasn't looking for toxic drama in the show Colin. I just wanted to feel something for the couple, and I didn't. Right now I am at the part where Colin is following Penelope in a carriage after Cressida has announced that she is Lady Whistledown.
I chuckled over your comment: "It's a book!" in reference to the great debate over Michael/Michaela. You are right of course. But consider that the reason there are period romances is because writers understood some readers want to escape. They seek fantasy in their romances and it is the job of the writer to deliver it -- if the writer aspires to success. Funny. Bridgerton book series was written for white women in heteronormative relationships. Netflix/Shondaland threw the doors wide open with their multi-racial casting , beautiful cinematography, creative use of popular music and open sexuality. Their gamble paid off big time. I personally didn't care for Season 2 because I hated that weird dynamic between the sisters Kate and Edwina. In the book Anthony never gets that far with Edwina. Season 3 was just weird for me. I didn't understand the hype around Colin and Penelope and I didn't like Penelope's glow up. It was too fake and over the top. With respect to Francesca and John I loved their storyline, but I was one of those who flipped out when I saw Francesca's reaction to Michaela.
There were some things Jess Brownell did well. The female friendships were done very well. I loved the scene where Penelope and Eloise are playing charades and you see just how well they know each other. The way they presented Cressida with her wild costumes and humanizing her dilemma was also done wonderfully. The romance between John Stirling and Francesca was really beautiful visually and conceptually. But the Benedict threesomes, the lack of chemistry between Colin and Penelope and yes, the introduction of Michaela in the end just ruined the entire season for me. People watch these kinds of drama to be transported somewhere. I just felt like I needed a hot shower and bed so I could forget the entire enterprise. In contrast I loved Queen Charlotte. Yes, there were things that annoyed me, but over all there was a meta message about love is hard work that requires commitments and perseverance that inspired me. Unfortunately, I got not much out of season 3.

John and frannie story was done beautifully seeing as we didn't get an actual formal introduction Into how they met and fell in love in their book, I feel with pen and Colin you have to re watch s1 and s2 and pay attention to them in Order to fully understand their story isn't just about them falling in love but finding themselves in order to love each other fully.
