I dislike Michaela, not because of the twist, but because I want to see that shock, that attraction, FROM HERRRRR. Fran JUST got married, loves John, is happy, and to see someone from the side pining so hard and struggling with family ties and UGHHH YES GIVE ME THAT ANGST!!

I love this season so much because of the romantic Polin elements, but I agree that the story was soo close but missed the mark. Your analysis was very on point about the writing.

I have criticisms of lazy writing. When Pen asked “what holds you back” at Francesca’s wedding, his answer was literally “I don’t know..” Colin would know he could articulate something very powerful about what intimacy means to him, in a way that would hold Penelope more accountable for her actions. She needed to hurt too and feel the loss. Additionally, I think the entrapment accusations were lazy. I understand Colin was hurting and was trying to hurt her back. I just think he could’ve said something like I feel like I just found you and lost you in the same moment. I’m angry. I’m hurt. I feel like I don’t know you. I need time. I’m not saying he needs to say all that, but something that communicates Colin is truly mature and understands his love for Penelope. I think it would’ve followed friends to lovers better and given Colin more depth.

i agree, the writing team needed to go back to the drawing board for some of this dialogue because what was that lmao! thanks for watching :)

Yes, they needed time to really talk and heck, fight it out. Instead, Pen was either iced out and with the exception of a few brief scenes, they talked to everyone else but each other. There were so many moments we could have had scenes with the dialogue used in some way above for real cathartic emotional release but instead it was just Colin miraculously being cool all of the sudden and it was over. I felt like we missed an entire episode. Maybe two.

@@beyondthestacks I totally agree, another two episodes to flesh out Colin’s growth, show some flashbacks and show their joint interest in writing. It is irksome that our two writers are given such lackluster dialogue.

For what it's worth, the entrapment line makes more sense when you remember his history with Marina. Even though it's a different situation with Pen, there are quite a few parallels (his fiance keeping a pretty big secret from him, and being made to feel like the fool who didn't see it, especially with Eloise knowing), and I can imagine that trauma rearing its ugly head and making him feel like history was repeating itself. I genuinely never read that as him just saying it to hurt her. I think that's how he truly felt in the moment, even though after giving it any thought he would realize it wasn't the same thing. To me, this is the opposite of lazy writing. It's more realistic than him managing to perfectly analyze and articulate his own feelings in the moment, when in reality, he's still processing

I think Season 3 costumes were a bit more campy this season is because it’s heavily a Featherington coded. I noticed from season 2 Featherington Ball the colors were brighter.

Love the Michaela twist, the actress is gorgeous but why couldn't they wait until her husband was underground before making her fall for his cousin. Like damn girl, John didn't deserve that. 😭
22:10 Even if it did ruin her reputation, Eloise didn't want to get married. Shouldn't she be happy now? Thanks to the scandal she can opt out the marriage market until the tons moves on to the next scandal. Not only that but she was much more upset about ending things with Theo than hurting her family's reputation, but is not like her family would abandon her if she never got marry unlike Cressida's, it made no sense to me how she didn't feel anything about Cressida not wanting to marry the old man? And how again she didn't do anything to help her. Eloise is truly pure talk and I truly hope that after being told this twice she develops as a character.
I'm tired of Benedict's hoe era. Despite liking Lady Arnold's character would've preferred if his fling was just with Paul, he could have inspired him to get back on art and maybe help struggling artists who aren't as lucky as him. He could be afraid to commit because they're both men and lose him to another leading him to never let society dictate who can and can't love, book readers know where I'm going with this.

Eloise is the epitome of the rich kid who doesn't understand their version of life isn't the default. Even her friendship with Pen doesn't do anything to dispel that notion for her, as for all intents and purposes, Pen is from an acceptable family, and shares enough similar interests with Eloise that most of the ladies of the ton don't have. So, it's easy for her to assume that Pen doesn't want to get married for the same reasons as Eloise, and not because of the lack of prospects. And as you said, her family would always support her regardless, so she cannot imagine that Cressida would actually be forced into such a marriage, and she probably thinks that at some level, Cressida must be ok with this match. That's the thing about a large, supportive family, it insulates you in many ways from things other people would recognize as problematic and empathize with.

Unpopular opinion - Cressida becomes "the Sophia" in season 4 and marry Benedict.. Cressida literally looks like a young Tilly Arnold with which Benedict missed his chance... When Cressida returns from her rural aunt, she could be return purified and more modest - a girl on the bottom of the society, with no perspectiv of fortune and welth... She could return as a new person which Benedict notice and fall in love with her... And the other hand it would build up new trouble inside the Bridgertons like this season "this woman wanted to destroy my wife (Colin) and talked bad about our family - she is still evil inside etc. - stay away from her"... During season 4 we get to know some more about Cressida (what was prepared in season 3)... I think after they put so much energy in Cressidas story in season 3, she must return in season 4 and this would make room for her to be in / the Center of the story - also a lot of viewers felt a kind of sorry for and her situation and what we saw made her almost human...
Overall, I also wish they had more of Pen and Colin in season 3 (their season) she is my favorite character since season 1 (and the actress Nicola since Derry Girls)... The Francesca plot was unnecessary (now), the Mondrich scenes only an addition when they appeared with the main cast (when the couple gave an advice or their view of the problems as a couple or what happend between Pen and Colin)... Violets lovestory I did not need - espacially in a 8 episode season...
At the end, you could build up the story of Pen and Colin way more, the progress of finding each other when you do not spend so much time for other things... What let Colin act like he acts? What happend on his trips... What was it like in their childhood - we needed flashbacks so much...

i agree!! def needed more polin, and less of everyone else haha. also omg a fellow Derry Girls stan yess

I do not care about the skincolor and sexuality of someone - not at all... I want a good plot and was here for Polin... I would have been totally fine if they cast a black actor for Colin and change his backstory to "he was adopted"... To be honest - the new season felt like "When we casted the actors for the first season, we forgot that Pen and Colin have their own season and they are two white leads, now we have to force several subplots with other couples to have an eqaul amount of screentime and if we start in this direction, we also need need to deal with sexuality now... At the end it was a mess and for a show that only releases one season every two years it was not enough substance - I felt for Polin from the very beginning of the show and this was their season... Its bitter espacially because the other stories didn't lead to somewhere (felt made up just to exist) and/or were not necessary at this time... The Francesca/Michaela thing and that there was obviously a urgent need for this, at this time felt again like "Guys, guys, we have you in mind and know whats up, wait for season 4 - unfortunatly there was not enough time to have even more Focus on this in the third season - but be aware we have you in mind!"... Everything does not feel easy going as it should...

He definitely wanted to kiss her and was scared to do so. I think his romantic feelings were unfolding when he noticed her absence in the writing, which is why to your point they should’ve showed that early on. I’m kind of OK with the brothel because I know it was Shonda’s decision and I liked the juxtaposition of the two scenes. There was pining involved. What I would like to see is after she rejects him under the willow tree that he takes her letters to his bedroom and reads them at night before bed to help connect to her to entice his dreams, even further lots of fantasizing and pining.
