You can really tell the people making this movie really cared and put so much detail and thought. now they are pumping out movies just for money not for the love of cinema.
exactly, the level of thought and care put into the script, the casting, the cinematography here - that's real art. unfortunately in the romcom dept (& superhero movies) hollywood has been into quantity over quality since then 😶🌫️

I probably have watched this movie a minimum of once a year since 2000, and each time, I find a new little quirk ornline that hits different than previously lol for example, the grandpa saying that Cecilia was "too young" for him while havinf an 11yr old daughter ☠️☠️

The math on the apartment is the same math that friends uses. It doesn’t really exist/maybe she’s inherited from her grandmother. Just assume that nobody can afford these apartments actually except for possibly Joe Fox.

The first time I watched this movie, it was to make fun of it a la Nostalgia Chick. Then it became one of my favorite movies. Love the video. You really captured what makes it compelling.

While I agree with your various assessments, I feel like this is the saddest of the versions, just because the crushing realism of big box retail squeezing out the Mom & Pop shops is just too real. 😅

I'll have to check out the musical! And yes there's definitely an undercurrent of sadness in this movie, i'm a big proponent of mom & pop/indie stores so that part is always a lil painful to watch. Joe vs. the volcano has been on my list for a while, so I guess this is my sign to finally watch it!. Thanks for watching 😊
There is another musical version of this store- She Loves Me, which is a musical version of The Shop Around the Corner. I love that version as well.

yep her apartment isn't the whole brownstone! but still quite large and in that part of nyc today would prob cost a whole mortgage 😭
