      These games are really fun. Majority good balancing makes even a simple longsword and shield able hold it's own throughout the entire game. Which is good, considering FromSoft is good at tugging the difficulty string. A lot of watching patterns, pretty solid mechanics, and trial and error. It's a game that's made for you to dig into yourself for the grit to keep trying, and dig into the entire game to piece the rest of the story out. Other RUclipsrs, my favorite VaatiVidya, have hours of content relating to observations and connections made throughout the entire series. It's a pleasure to get into with all the depth being optional and hidden away for the people who seek it.
      As a side note: Dark souls 2 stands out as a different team handled visual and gameplay.

      @@ThatepicpinkkiD idk why people said DS2 is bad. Mediocre, I agree, but definitely not bad at all. I like slow paced soulsborne game, and DS2 fits me well (roll spam in DS3 is immersion breaking FOR ME).
      Gameplay wise, it's quite nice. Forlorn can be annoying, so does low player base. But I like durability system instead of MP with dual estus system. DS2 felt a bit more punishing somehow. Brume tower has the shittiest game design of all time, but I recall DS3 also has 1 bad DLC too. The ending kinda not fitting into the timeline, but I guess as Age of Fire coming to end, a lot of "chosen one" has its own story and its own effect on the world. DS2 has the least effect yet I think it's fair. I like the feeling of insignificance.
      So yeah, sometimes people potrays DS2 as a really bad game, even a disgrace to the series. But nah. Worse on the series yeaaaaaa maybe. But still 10/10 worth to play.

    The creator of Dark Souls has a following not just for the settings and backstories, but for his style of writing. As a child he would read fantasy books in English despite only knowing some english, so he got bits and pieces of the story and had to piece the rest together in his head. When he started writing the story for games he wanted to put the player in the same situation, omitting tons of information most games would tell you, only giving you little hints of the hows and whys. The games suck you in precisely because you're curious and the game only gives you those bread crumbs.

    What I like about all these games, is that the intros are the epic high fantasy parts setting up the world, but the actual games are the aftermath. They set up these amazing worlds, but you're actually playing the game once the world starts falling apart. It creates an amazing bleak atmosphere that makes you feel just small and insignificant. It's almost post apocalyptic fantasy.

    The greater scope of Dark Souls...
    Humans aren't a thing. There are these unformed creatures, far below the ground. They discover Fire, which grants them souls and individuality.
    Some gain a greater, burning soul. These become the gods. Gwyn, Nito, etc,.
    The pygmy gains the Dark Soul, which is humanity. They become the first human, serving under the gods in their war on the dragons.
    They win, and human history progresses. However, as time passes the fire that sustains Gwyn and the gods begins to falter.
    Without it, they'd lose their identity and return to their true forms. Hollows, not living, nor thinking, nor dying.
    Humans, who hold the Dark Soul, are exempt from this. The Dark Soul only grows with each birth and death. The humans will inherit the earth, in the Age Of Dark, named for their Dark Soul.
    Gwyn views this as a problem, so goes down to the Fire itself, and feeds it whatever he can.
    This causes problems, as he tried to feed it powerful humans. This links them to the flame, and it tries to consume the Dark Soul. It can't, but it burns away at the edges of it, which is what the Darksign is.
    This causes humanity to turn into Hollows as well. A hollow loses their minds, memories, etc,. over time.
    Tragic events ensue, and Undead humans, who have begun to turn into Hollows, are made strong and fed to the Fire to rekindle it.
    In Dark Souls, you succeed, causing a new Age Of Fire.
    This repeats an unknown amount of times, each cycle getting worse. Other Dark Souls games take place within these cycles. 3 takes place at the last such cycle, as even kindling the fire with your soul causes a weak and anemic flame.
    And so instead of a great future, the world sinks into an endless period of suffering.
    All because Gwyn wanted to keep power, so many millennia ago.

      also no one @ me but dark souls 3 is the weakest one story and presentation wise because miyazaki made it specifically to put an end to the souls series, because he didnt want to make any after the first game. thats why dark souls 2's intro is so different and more personal, like shes speaking directly to you, because miyazaki didnt have anything to do with the game because he was developing bloodborne. dark souls 2 has the best story in my opinion, though, for spoilery reasons that only make sense after playing through every souls game multiple times and really having a long think about what the fuck is going on in the series. its absolutely phenomenal and well worth the rage, though. the souls series has one of the best and most interesting stories of anything ive ever interfaced with.

    Looking at this makes me realize what immediately felt off about DkS2. The first game's opening focuses on the world and all this epic and terrible stuff happening around you and the third does the same. The second tries to focus on *you* and what *you* are and at a certain point its as if its talking to the player directly as a player.
    imo that feeling of being such a small, weak being while these gods and dragons exist or have existed in this world is much more effective at conveying a hopeless world and atmosphere than the game basically just telling me that Im going to die over and over again.
    Just a bit of a revelation I had lol

    • @Walamonga1313
      @Walamonga1313 5 лет назад

      I absolutely hated the intro of DkS2. From the start it felt wrong. When the old ladies start saying "You will lose your souls over and over again" and the like I was like, wait a minute... That's not what the games are about.
      And so I realized that in DkS2 their focus was on just killing the player, no matter how they had to make players die. Even through bullshit hitboxes and tons of ganks. That's not what Demon's Souls and Dark Souls were about. It wasn't just about dying over and over again. If you died it was 99% of the time your fault.

    • @mohammadripan337
      @mohammadripan337 5 лет назад

      @@Walamonga1313 yeah, DS2 is actually a good game, but not a good souls game. Maybe the director (since it's not Miyazaki) only knows that DS1 became a huge thing because "it is hard", so they just made the second game harder. But that is not the case. A lot of people said DS became so popular because it's hard, but the one that said it is just a bunch of people that doesn't even play it. Yes, DS is hard. But it has the soundtrack, the story behind it, and the most real game as well. Like, if I play DS, I feel like "this is me if I'm going to the other world. I'm only human, and I have to fight a beast". Even 1 v 1 with a regular npc sometimes hard, but that's the point. They are human, like the player. That's why we are equal

    • @Walamonga1313
      @Walamonga1313 5 лет назад +1

      @@mohammadripan337 Yeah it's a good game, but it really struggled on what was challenging and what was borderline unfair. For example the npc invaders, those have impossible to reach by player's level of poise. And they can also animation cancel! Once I saw Maldron turn 180° and hit me mid attack, something which is possible in other Souls but not in DkS2 as a player.

  • @DarkThunderism
    @DarkThunderism 4 года назад +3

    So, here's a weird thing about Dark Souls lore. At least how I understand it.
    Each game is a snippet of the same time loop. As the First Flame dies and is re-lit, the world resets itself and it is your job as the Chosen Undead/Bearer of the Curse/Ashen One/Whatever you happen to be in that timeline, to either let the flame die or use your soul to light it, which restarts the world bringing a new, different age.
    In my opinion, I believe Dark Souls 1 is of the first set of loops, before any major changes, 2 is really anywhere, and 3 is the FINAL loop, depending on your choice. Or 2 could be the final loop...
    It's complicated.
    Either way, the world is fucked and we can't stop it.

    The Dark Souls games got a trilogy pack for ps4, about £40 currently I think. Has DS1 remastered, DS2: Scholar of the First Sin, DS3 with all the dlc. DS1 remastered has the dlc plus retextures, but nothing updated or remodelled. DS2 Scholar of the First Sin is DS2 with all the DLC, which wasn't directed by Miyazaki originally, but then Miyazaki gave it a once-over, changing enemy placement, AI, object placement and interaction, and added new skins and I think models. DS2 originally got a lot of decriers over not having Miyazaki on board and it does show, through the different concepts that the designers had in mind regarding level design, world design, enemy placement, boss design, lore, and all the stat stuff. But Miyazaki was evidently fine enough with it to give it a touch-up, and then use the same team for DS3. I think during DS3's development, the Bloodborne team, which could've been the Dark Souls 1 team (I'm not quite certain), then proceeded to Sekiro. Maybe some of them also worked on DS3, the two share a lot of things.
    Also there's Demon's Souls, for the ps3. Haven't played it, but it might be getting a remaster? Not sure on that. Would quite like one, if only to see Miyazaki's origins.
