🍏 Interesting topic. It really depends on the individual and their life goals. When I learned Spanish I was really worried about not sounding like a native. After a while, I realized my goal was effective communication and that it was okay that I don't sound like a native speaker. I used to work in emergency services and the situations in which I needed to speak Spanish demanded effective communication and pronunciation; not being able to speak like a native. I think having a clear focus on WHY we're learning a language can make things flow easier. I learned Indonesian quicker because I had a clear focus on what outcome I was looking for: effective communication. For others, in the movie industry, etc, the goals may be different. Thanks for the great video and positive energy! 👍🏼😄🍎
Yeah Marina, i do think that accent is important. I'm from Brazil and I have worked on my American accent because my friends use to say that i look like an American when i'm speaking english and everyone gets impressed when i do that. So, basically i think that accent must be considered a very important tool in order to affect people's impression about you.
I love how much drive and positivity you exhibit, once you're in an advanced level, like you are.. get yourself an idioms book, any idioms book will work.. you have no idea how much it will help you connect with American English speakers, they love idioms
I think the accent is important to succeed because it is an important part of the spoken English. I think the needed level for people is being understandable with your accent and it is okay for them since they can understand you, even in conferences people will look for understanding what you are saying and the clarity of your content more than just your accent, people in the street too and friends won't demand a lot in terms of accent if it is understandable. In your case I can't tell a big difference you are fluent and accent is really good. Some people though love hearing different accents because they are special and sometimes even cute or reprenting the country they come from which is great for the culture differences in a same country. But i encourage you to continue working you accent if it excites you because It is great if the experience of living in the US makes you starting to acquire the accent with time, it is one of the factors that can help you integrating the community rapidly and being able not to be noticeable as a foreigner which is cool and challenging, and it is a personal choice to work on the accent from being understandable to the level of sounding native. I find that exiting as well. Of course in some professional frameworks or in some careers they might need a native accent or to different accents like for acting.
Hi, I am Chinese. I am a serious British English learner. I so far have found you have done a terrific job in speaking with the American Accent. If I turn the screen off and just listen to your voice, I would think you are an American girl. It is because you are using the tone (up speaking) correctly , also you have managed very well with your energy level when you speak!
..That's how I realized that role and roll can sound the same. I didn't get it from the first time mentioned. By the way, the video is nice - you're looking so inspired! Keep going!
... I'd like to say, native-like accent makes people easier understanding what we say, but i think each one of us is special, we Can have our own accents, it should be okay, no problem at all. Marina, I love your video, so much fun to watch it, thanks for sharing your filming class. Tell us more about the culture there, it's so interesting.
I think it is important to sound as native as you can. That way you not hindered by your accent when it comes to finding jobs or socializing. Have you ever come across a job posting and one of the requirements of the job is to have excellent communication skills. I know have. I like to compare an accent to the famous Turing test. The Turing Test was created by Alan Turing in the 1950s and the goal of the test was to test whether a machine had achieved a certain level of intelligence. In the test, a human interrogator sits on one side of a room and a machine or human sits on the other side of the room. The human integrator does not know whether the person they are communicating with is a machine or human, but has to figure out through a series of questions. If the human interrogator fails to identify the machine then the machine has passed the Turing test. Now accent for me is the same way. If you are speaking to someone on the phone and the person on the other side of the phone cannot see you and cannot tell whether you are black, white, Indian, American, Russian, etc. Then you have passed the accent test. Because let us be honest people judge others by their accents.
If people want to judge you, they will regardless to your accent. Yes, you are right about a job situation. Although, when it comes to socializing, I am not sure your accent is always a disadvantage. It really depends.
@Svetlana You are right people will judge regardless of your accent. But what I mean about socializing is if people can't understand you when you are talking then there are likely to either not talk to you, finish your sentences, etc.
I am working on my accent as well haha I only have English speakers friends since I finished high school here but still have to better my accent I have gotten better and still getting better as my native language is Spanish. It's very hard for me since my family don't speak English but fortunately my boyfriend don't speak Spanish that helps 👌
My opinion is that if you were trying to become an actor, then losing your accent would be more important. But iIf you are going to pursue being a producer, director, entrepreneur, a technical person or the like, it's more important to know correct English than to not have an accent. You speak VERY good English, better than many (most?) Americans. You are intelligent, literate, articulate, and you sound that way, which in your likely professions is extremely important. In fact, speaking as impressive English as you do, and having a bit of an accent could be an advantage. Most Americans only know English, so someone who speaks better English than they do, with an accent is a very potent combination. Also, and I don't mean to be discouraging, just honest, since you moved here as an adult, it will be very difficult for you to ever be taken as native-born American unless you devote an inordinate amount of time to it. Your accent is still immediately noticeable, but that's ok, it's quite charming to my ears, anyway.
Hi Marina sis. it's good to see you.well can you make a video on cpa course . Like which Universitys offers this course and how much it takes fee per annum and some about scholarships .and list of best Universitys.i hope it done.ok bye I will see you in your next video.
Me too. Im still working on it. Whenever i talk to other people i sound like native speaker (maybe, thats what i think) but when i talk ti my husband which is all the time, i turn to my natural accent. Idk, it's like automatic reaction. maybe because i talk to him in both language coz im still trying to teach him my language.
I am from India I trying to improve my English Vocabulary and also work on accent......u help lots ....keep uploading Give the tips how to improve vocabulary and accent
Hello Marina i like your channel it's very interesting and helpful. l am studing English in a center and l'm in intermediate 4 but my big problem is communication with people i don't have a confident to talk easily, use my english correctly and i hope to help me please and need some steps to improve myself thank you .
I don't think it's THAT important but probably with accents more like the people around you it'll be easier to make friends at first. When I came to the States last summer to visit my aunt (I'm 17) I was practically SWARMED by American voices, like, I could "hear" voices in my head before I fall asleep. That's a super good way to pick up accents. Also I think native expressions are also really important? Otherwise people'll have a harder time understanding you. Anyways, your video is fantastic!!!
Марин, ты такая солнечная! И вдохновляешь на учебу 😅😆 и саморазвитие 😏😎Успехов тебе)🤩 с нетерпением жду твоего следующего видео) Wow, and yes, I think the accent is important, but the most important thing for people is to understand you and what you are actually saying)) or trying to say😁 Everyone has an accent and that thing makes them a special person👍🏻
I dated a girl "off & on" for ten (10) years, and she wanted to be an actress in Hollywood. So, she moved out there and tried for years. She got some parts, but none good enough to please her. Over the years, she went from happy and delightful, to sad and bitter. I represented some professional football players, however; I have a close friend in Los Angeles who is a big time agent for professional sports. I knew enough to refer my clients out to him so that they had the best chance possible. There is a rather nasty saying that applies to Hollywood, and it is: "It is not what you know, but who you blow that counts." Sorry for the bad language, but that is the only manner in which to express the dirty ways of Hollywood. So be very careful about whom you trust. Broaden your horizons, but never lose control of your life and business. You must control both of them 100% of the time. I apologize for seeming too nosy, but I do not want to see all of your abilities get washed down the drain by trusting another person with your life. Be sure that the people with whom you surround yourself are just as ambitious as you are. Keep in touch, Earl ( nhullenlawoffice2006@gmail.com )
Hey, Marina, I'm sure you will be successful in filmmaker!!! I'm facing a big problem with my accent sometimes people don't understand what I'M saying. I want to improve Amerikan accent. give me suggestions how can I improve it ?
A wonderful advise: "Don't lose your accent!" As if one can lose his or her native accent at all. Who ever saw such people? And why advise to continue making pronunciation mistakes? It is the same as to advise people not to lose their mistakes in grammar and word choice.
Hello🤗 I'm very happy to see your videos. I like it alot. I will be glad if you make a video on Hult international business school. I hope you would do it. Whenever it is possible for you. I'm waiting for your response. Thanks 😄.
That's Really Nice Of You.. Yes You Have A Better English Accent Even When You're A Russian.. So Nice To See You Back.. Please Make Some Vlogs From Hollywood Too..😍😘 #Bigfan_Of_You..#You're The Best Of All..😎😍😘
Accents don't matter outside of show business. Being able to speak English is enough. Foreign accents make people sound exotic and therefore interesting, sometimes even sexy. I think the world's sexiest accent for a woman is the Italian accent.
Hi Marina =) I wonder to ask you, how do you can to influence on me? =) I feel your energy very clear and it's makes me be in good condition during the day. Thank you ^_^
Well... I'm 14 and I actually have a natural american accent, my voice sounds even better in english.. but I wish I could speak with a british accent, life is so unfair!
I have seen a lot of russian girls chatting about Natalia Oreiro and telenovelas. To be honest I think that you love telenovelas as well. You should see the ending of Rubi....a well known telenovela from Mexico and make a remake, just for practising :)
You: "Nobody wants to be in my vlog." Someone else: "Everybody hates you." You: [crying face]. Omg that was hilarious lol. Oh, and there's the girl who can sing really well lol. Hence, great video lol
You use the word "straightaway" a lot. Maybe it's just me but as an American, it sounds like a British word. IMO Americans would use the word "immediate" or "immediately" instead.
Do you think sounding like a native speaker is important? I am still working on my accent and I see improvement, but there is a way to go
linguamarina I think so
linguamarina Hi marina ... Im from brazil and I will trying to think English
linguamarina you know why I watch your videos? Just becoz of your accent!
linguamarina Totally. I think ppl will respect you more and appreciate the effort you made to reach it.
I feel no difference between natives and you
Great video Marina!
Thata girl! Im sure you'll be brilliant filmmaker!

Yes! Accent it’s important! And your accent it’s amazing ! You inspire me ! I would like to speak like you.

Accent is important if:
you don't want to draw extra attention to oneself
you want to make impression on other people
So, you want to be a super spy

What about Gal Gadot she has a thick Irasel accent that has not stopped her from getting roles.

In my point of view the most important is speak clear, for everyone be able to understand what im trying to say..

Well... I'm 14 and I actually have a natural american accent, my voice sounds even better in english.. but I wish I could speak with a british accent, life is so unfair!
I get why you're trying to get the American accent down, but never lose your Russian accent, its adorable and charming and something rare in America!
Beach&BoardFan she lost it already, she doesn't sound as Russian at all
She does compared to an American...
This is like my favorite thing that you should never say to someone who's trying to lose their accent
Trying to be someone else you not is the wrong path. Arnold Schwarzenegger has an accent but he's successful. Be unique, be confident, Be you
Hi Marina:) Are you from Russia?
I have seen a lot of russian girls chatting about Natalia Oreiro and telenovelas.
To be honest I think that you love telenovelas as well.
You should see the ending of Rubi....a well known telenovela from Mexico and make a remake, just for practising :)
Please make the scene where Rubi fell off and almost die, that scene is a masterpiece.
I like all your chanel :)
if it's not secret, what happened to your MBA degree?? Have you graduated?
Cutie 😍 your vlogs are so coOl.. 😍
Кстати, американские актеры никак не могут воспроизвести русский акцент. Особо и не заморачиваются
"Особо и не заморачиваются" Hy и выглядит это ушасно!
Sounding like a native speaker is not as important as using correct grammar.
There are too many native speakers who use bad grammar.
I love your accent but in certain parts, you need the ones they are looking for.
She was high in the class...?
which country is better for improve my English? In Europe?
youtube
Rümeysa Temurtaş İngiltere. 😁
A Girl In Hoody Pound=5.15 Turkish money . Unfortunately do not England. Other countries?
john wayne sitting on his horse making a western, doing his lines..........and here come another one of them damn airplanes
Specifically work on the word "process". We pronounce it differently than the British do and your pronunciation sounds British.
Why don't you wanna be an actor?
You should abstain yourself from these kind of works. But this fields takes so much money and energy.
