@@ronc9413 The fact that something is natural doesn't automatically make it ok. Beauty is completely subjective. That's why fashion and physical ideals change all the time. Beauty standards can be influenced by the era and culture. Since it is a subjective matter, saying that someone is not attractive to you is much more accurate and a lot less cruel. No matter whether you find someone attractive or not, they had no choice in what life has given them and choosing to ignore that fact is, in my opinion, ugly and cruel.

@@luckyblume2116 Of course, beauty is “subjective” or “in the eye of the beholder”. There is no right or wrong opinion. You aren’t ugly if you think someone is ugly. And, conversely, you aren’t beautiful if you think someone is beautiful. It’s just what you think, according to “what you like”/preferences. For example, some people think Kim Kardashian looks beautiful. While other people think Kim Kardashian looks ugly. You are not a bad person if you think someone is unattractive. You can’t force your opinion onto other people (exception if what you believe in would cause someone to die). It’s like telling someone, who doesn’t want to date tall people, they are a bad person and they have to like tall people.

Doing extreme things just to meet Asian beauty standards which are pretty much impossible to attain without plastic surgery. The worst part? The only real ugly person is who is ugly inside...
+ u know what tbh this is suppose to be true but its not. I know all people tend to judge the outside and it’s true. For example, if there were two person with the exact same personality, u’d want to date the more handsome one. And if u r pretty, its a real blessing cuz some people wanna be an actor but cant because of their faces and some people still judge people’s faces on job interviews. If u take example of a doll, say there’s two dolls with the same price and one is more cuter. Which one would you wanna buy? Most people would buy the cuter one. We can’t change this kind of mind cuz we r born with it. We CAN think that someone is ugly but if u SAY it to that person or treat them DIFFERENTLY just because of their outside, online or offline, that’s what’s RUDE.

@SASA SASA Korean beauty standard it’s too much for Koreans that’s why everyone one be looking the same! It’s so sad because people are losing individuality and don’t realize that everyone’s beautiful. It’s so toxic and no wonder suicide rates are high in the eastern world. Wish people will start appreciate more their looks however until white people are in the center of everything it will be hard to accept diversity such as dark skin as beautiful and desirable or monolids as elegant and sophisticated. I don’t want to bring this up everytime but it’s true that Colonialism fucked things up for everyone. With the white woman at the centre of female beauty black women, south Asian women and East Asians women try to get close to those standards by bleaching, wearing waves, rhinoplasty, and having double eyelids surgery. Now some of you think that double eyelids isn’t necessarily a white thing which is true but it is the white man that brainwashed Koreans in having double eyelids during the Korean War.

@@lousdinovembre There is so much wrong in your comment.
      1. Conformity, trends, beauty standards are a thing, like everywhere else, but it does not mean everyone looks the same. Most Koreans don't even get surgery.
      2. What beauty standard in any country isn't toxic? How are beauty standards even pushing massive numbers of people to commit suicide? Have you considered there are other deeper issues like poor mental health awareness?
      3. Beauty standards at its core leaves little to no room for diversity in any country. Otherwise, it wouldn't be a "standard." Anyway, getting lighter skin is supposedly desirable, but monolids have, for a long while, been appreciated. You can find plenty of celebrities with monolids.
      4. Koreans are not getting double-eyelids because they want to look western. Having bigger-looking eyes makes people look youthful and cute and whatever; that's the aesthetic they want. You can argue that a white man fucked things up and started all this, but the intent of this surgery clearly had been changed and thus it is not relevant anymore. We aren't prostitutes or travelers trying to appease American soldiers.
      5. Overall, it's clear you barely know anything about Korea, its beauty standards, and society.

I will readily say that of course I would pick the more attractive girl if given the choice. Note that what attracts us, what is "attractive", is more than just physical beauty. (I remember that there was a very pretty girl in my university who was so annoying that every time I saw her I was rolling my eyes inside - her physical attractiveness couldn't override her repellent character. And the same can be true in reverse. But I digress.)
Like I said, I obviously would pick the more attractive girl if given the choice. I don't know enough about the girl in the video to say much about her character (although the narration sounds like she's very likable) but just going with physical appearance she would be a top contender for me. I'm not saying this to soothe, I genuinely think that. But that's personal taste. "Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder" as they say.

I disagree, social media has only temporarily exaggerated beauty standards. before social media you're judged by your immediate circle of friends. As an asian I was judged for having asian features, or judged by other asians for not being skinny enough ect. as the author of this video said, she felt this way before social media lol. social media only brought this out to a larger platform. but at the same time it brought more awareness to different beauty standards since we can look at people from all over the world. And I find that many at a much younger age are becoming more self aware and preaching self love and acceptance. if one person voices out that they love their flabby tummy then people who watch that person will also slowly learn to accept and love their flabby tummy.

If thats what you call ugly, what do you call me? You’re all stunning and perfect the way you are no matter what others say or think you are beautiful the way you are created and that’s why we are all unique and beautiful in our own ways plus beauty isn’t always about the appearance, it also about the size of a persons heart when everyone is laughing because of your appearance it means they are the one who is ugly inside and they’re appearance outside will last for a little bit and as they age, they’ll loose their beauty outside so, they’re beautiful for a while and after that, they’ll wake up in reality and everyone will hate their attitude if they still kept their bad attitude and judgemental heart everyone will think of them as a mean old man/lady who lost it’s fame and turned out to be a bad person as they grow old so they’re beauty isn’t permanent, but let me tell you something, true beauty comes from within a persons heart. Your face might age but your heart will never change and that’s the beauty of a persons kind heart
So please don’t you dare judge your beauty with your physical appearance because nit every thing is permanent time runs fast we will age a lot but your golden heart will never loose its beauty

the sad truth :/ i’m also korean american and i went through something similar but also different. i used to hate how asian i looked bc i lived in the midwest and was surrounded by only western/white american culture. but then i “discovered” kpop in my freshman year yr of high school and for the first time i was so so happy about being asian, esp korean. but that didn’t last long when i realized i was ugly in korea too. i don’t have double eyelids. my jaw is square, i have a flat and wide nose and i’m short. like 4’11”. so so far off from the “ideal” beauty in korea. and this hit harder than the pain of wanting to be white all through middle school. but strangely enough knowing that western influence is the reason why i’m not considered “pretty” in korea as well makes it easier to bear? like it’s not my fault that i don’t “fit in”. and your video also helped. we’re supposed to look like this. this is how korean people look. like us. yeah ig some ppl do naturally have double eyelids and v shaped jaws and tall nose bridges, but the vast majority of korean look like us. and that’s kind of how we’re supposed to look. and knowing that is actually really comforting. and although i feel like i would’ve eventually come to this conclusion, hearing you tell me this now, that us koreans are supposed to look like how we do now....thank you. i really needed to hear that.❤️

I have darker skin than all these korean celebrities and the majority of my relatives and so I got now mocked by my relatives, korean and white friends for looking like “an indian” or “south east asian” (I don’t want to offend here ANYONE because every race and color us beautiful) but it hurt because I AM a korean but didn’t fit the typical “beauty standard” or the look of the “stereotypical korean”. I got now insecure in being korean yet again because I felt like I let people down by not looking like the typical korean or how they would expect a korean to look like.

I am still facing some difficulties about accepting my skin color and I was wondering if Koreans really are as pale as actresses or idols, bc Ik they get beauty procedures and makeup. Btw, I’m not saying to be rude and I’m not expecting Koreans to look like idols. I was curious because I live in America so really the only Koreans I see are the perfect porcelain skinned ones online. it’s been a bit hard for me bc I feel so inferior to the the “beautiful” Asians and used to wish so much I looked like idols and had perfect face, skin, etc like them.

@@bithoff6930 I am a korean and I understand the comments 100%. Koreans tend to take criticism too personally due to our strong nationalism. First, it's youtube that people around the world watches and comments, so most of them do not look down on Korea just because they are only very few that watch these kind of videos. The creator of this vid does not seem to have a malicious intention to harm Korea anyways in that this vid is more about being vulnerable as an asian american. Second, It is a true fact that Korea's lookism is way worse than the other countries' and it is hard to know how serious it is as a korean because we grow up with those social influences and take them for granted. It's good to hear that gen z is making a change but you may admit that nothing can easily change dramatically. Also I lately read a book and I learned that the part of this video where the youtuber explains about how the double eyelids surgery started and all that (starting from the american doctor of a military base in Korea) is an accurate historical fact most of Koreans are still not aware of.
I moved a country and I was also bummed when people around me generally do not even think of surgeries to "fix" their appearance -- actually some people rather fix their body than face, but still they do not talk about surgeries very openly like we do in Korea just because it is not considered common thing to do unless you are a celeb. Most people would get shocked to hear the stories that many of high school students in Korea consider cosmetic surgeries before going into colleges.
