When going through the Soviet line and hitting rank VIII... I see this as the no brainer choice since missile loadout is generally the most important thing at top tier. You can straight up make this the first top tier Soviet plane you get and have the best possible missiles right off the bat and 10 of them at that. Makes going for the MiG-29 seem so underwhelming now.
I have both the F-15J and J-11 and honestly, I prefer the F-15 in pretty much any situation, it just suits me more as a player. It's nice to see many jets at top tier actually being viable options. The Gripens scare me more than the Su-27 to be honest. I quite enjoy your videos Tim and they're very informative so keep up the good work!
Is it just the flight performance of the f15 that suits you? Seems like the easy dog fighter priority grind this update is gripen and the su-27 is the overall best missile sled. I'll be getting f15 last probably.
@runningamok2825 Play style and it doesn't feel like it bleeds energy as bad as the Flanker. I avoid furballs and turning fights like the plague since I can't free-look on console without holding down a button.

I just uninstalled WarThunder today, a lot of the changes to game recently has mad it lose it's appeal for me and I'm taking a break from it... I'm not taking a break from your content though, you do good shit Tim. Keep it up man! Edit: WarThunder is the only game that does this kind of simulation and does it well. Yeah, there's Arma, but it's a different kind of game entirely. WarThunder is a game that is, as far as I'm aware, the best at what it does so far. I uninstalled because the top-tier of the game has become a cluster-fuck of epic proportions and I don't want to put my time into the game while it's in this state. Even Low Tier feels janky and poorly balanced occasionally. I would really like them to focus down on QoL and Balancing instead of adding new Meta defining and breaking vehicles that will be very difficult to balance. Like how difficult the Maus was and is to balance for them in ground RB. They do these changes every couple of years and I uninstall/reinstall every once in a while because it's a game that just has no other competition in what it does.

If previous Soviet aircraft were criticized for having too little fuel, the Flanker simply went the opposite route. In a hypothetical alternative hustory where the East Germans got the Flanker, a reunification..I am sure the Luftwaffe would have held on to and upgraded them far more than their Fulcrums. man i feel so dirty playing this plane right now, when i unlocked the r27er within an hour I had back to back 7 kill games then back to back 3 kill games then the next game is when i finally got shot down but not before taking 2 with me. fucking crazy
great video, but man seeing the current missle performance makes me glad i gave up on top tier awhile back, i can only imagine matches are down to 3 minutes by now.
Never rush in with it ingame.... it might be able to out accelerate most of your team and make u get to the front lines fast but never do it... ive learned heavily from my mistaces and always let your teamates take the first missile shots and spot the first enemies incase they show up from no where and have a superior angle of attack.... the enemy will always go for the closest jet so if you stay behind the first jet will be the ideal target of the squad and if your at a good angle you can get the attack in on whoever is launching at the first guy.... never be first.... you will most likely have to fight migs or other Su27s since they are some of the fastest and as i said get to the battle first and most of them have R73s which can whipe you on a head on under 2km...
In Simulator battles this thing is extremely dangerous at BVR but if you can sneak up on it the Gripen walks all over it in a dogfight. It's about picking your battles against it.
The amount of countermeasures on the Su-27 is actually pretty adequate when you take into account that they only launch 1 flare and or chaff at a time giving you a solid amount of countermeasures that I have yet to run out of in an air RB. My only grievances with the Su-27 are the somewhat outdated avionics (RWR and radar), along with the flight model being quite strange. The current flight model of the Su-27 feels like it is flying with its flight control system turned off which is why it can often times do these crazy maneuvers whenever I tap the rudder or elevators when I’m rolling causing me to lose a lot of energy and often times messes with my positioning when dog fighting. But overall the Su-27 is probably the best aircraft game in the game due to its crazy weapon load out although I feel like it’s not overly oppressive in the current meta.

From own experience, dont turnfight in general, really seconding Tim's words here, stay fast, positioning and using your team as a meatshield is key to unleash a missile rain. If in a pinch only dogfight F-15s. That there is no manual wingslat control really can screw with you with sustained energy fights. 2 excellent AoA maneuvers at the cost of becoming a xp pinhata. Good tip with sucker punching high flyers with the 27ET... actually should utilize that.
My current longest kill with a 27er in a live match is 45km at launch. Idk what that means for the stat card but in the ideal conditions this missile is broken
Distance depends on altitude. Higher the altitude, longer the missile flight time and distance. Same for speed. The stat card value are absolute. Same for jet top speed for example.
45km is totally do-able against a head-on opponent who doesn't evade (caught off guard, not paying attention, doesnt know how, etc). The listed range on the statcard is more an indication of the missile's total energy than its actual engagement range - I go into more detail about it in my guide to air to air missiles.
@@TimsVariety theres not much the opponent can do though, I launch then break lock for 20 seconds and as long as i shot in roughly the right direction i get a hit 1 in 5 times id say. Not the best conversion rate but for a sar acting as a phoenix i cant complain
Honestly, the R27ER feels broken AF. I've had it climb up and out 22km from the deck. There isn't another missile like tha (except maybe the AiM 54C but I don't own the F14B yet)
Probably not. I generally only use the default in-game skins in my formal reviews, but I use custom ones in random b-roll for like - rant vids, radar tutorials, etc etc, so possibly in one of those. :-) Unless you make zany anime-girl skins, those arent really my thing.

The SU-27 embodies the concern you've expressed in previous videos. At top teir, I'm not sure I have the nessecary twitch reaction speeds to fly these jets now with so many missles and speeds. We need the AIM 120's!

Sucks that the hdd didn't get the datalink display and instead got the generic War Thunder radar screen, although it's cool that it did get the HUD repeater mode (not that it's all that useful)
While the f15s Radar has a completely wrong radar set and it locks onto chaff with PD and sparrows which were alr bad in wt go for chaff like an ir missile

My only gripes against this plane is its access to the R-27ER/ET. Those missiles vastly outclass anything else ingame. IRL they outclass even the initial R-77 in range too which leaves me with 1 hard question. Will players be content with the R-77 having comparable range to the R-27R in exchange for its active homing? Or will they cry for the vaporware ramjet R-77-PD whose only competition is the Meteor which we'd probably won't see ingame for a long while.

I'm glad the Su-27 isn't the most dominant dogfighter in the game, because its missile load is insane. Not only is it 10 missiles, but it's 10 of the best IR and SARH missiles in the game. Still though, I think maybe they went a little far with its missile load. Most other nations just can't really compare to how good its missiles are.
@@osamb1e658 You can reliably defeat the 9M due to the way it rejects flares; all you need to do is dump flares then change your flight path. The R-73's IRCCM on the other hand makes it nearly unflareable at close range since it doesn't seem the flares, and it also is much more maneuverable. The 9M's smokeless motor is nearly irrelevant in air RB where it has the missile marker anyways. The 9M is still very good, it is just not R-73 levels of good. The AAM-3 beats it too, anyways.
Fun fact, with most russian jets it is impossible to resist the urge to keep firing missiles at your target before your first missile even hits. If only the jets made it possible to wait for the first missile to miss or hit before letting loose another three.
This is a small thing, but hurts me a little. You don't spell the Su in su27. These are the first two letters from "Sukhoi". You tell them together. It is true for most soviet/russian aircraft. The origin of the word says a lot about how it should be said.
This has come up once or twice before, but saying "soo twenty seven" or "mee twenty four" just feels unnatural to American native-English speakers. We never pronounce-out two letter aircraft names. I don't know why, but it just doesn't happen.

So the US gets the F-15 as it was introduced in 1975 and the Russian “equivalent” is 10 years newer. Seems legit. I hate to harp on this, but the problem here is that the weapons technology for the F-15 is still based on 1975, while the Russian missiles are from the 80’s. This does not feel balanced.

But the mig 29smt has way better ground attack then su 27 so great for ground RB same with f 16C
Keep in mind that this plane is MASSIVE, the 29 is tiny compared 😅
But the mig 29 SMT will definitely receive R77 in the future so in my opinion it is worth looking for.

Su-27 should be able to take 96 of each countermeasure so maybe it will be fixed but if they try and buff the flanker people will prob riot lmao

Radar missiles are easy to avoid, just fly the opposite direction

It isn’t possible to score a 100km kill with it. Even if it had the max speed at launch, the guidance time wouldn’t be enough.

I'm glad the Su-27 isn't the most dominant dogfighter in the game, because its missile load is insane. Not only is it 10 missiles, but it's 10 of the best IR and SARH missiles in the game. Still though, I think maybe they went a little far with its missile load. Most other nations just can't really compare to how good its missiles are.

@@osamb1e658 You can reliably defeat the 9M due to the way it rejects flares; all you need to do is dump flares then change your flight path. The R-73's IRCCM on the other hand makes it nearly unflareable at close range since it doesn't seem the flares, and it also is much more maneuverable. The 9M's smokeless motor is nearly irrelevant in air RB where it has the missile marker anyways. The 9M is still very good, it is just not R-73 levels of good. The AAM-3 beats it too, anyways.

Fun fact, with most russian jets it is impossible to resist the urge to keep firing missiles at your target before your first missile even hits. If only the jets made it possible to wait for the first missile to miss or hit before letting loose another three.
This is a small thing, but hurts me a little. You don't spell the Su in su27. These are the first two letters from "Sukhoi". You tell them together. It is true for most soviet/russian aircraft. The origin of the word says a lot about how it should be said.
This has come up once or twice before, but saying "soo twenty seven" or "mee twenty four" just feels unnatural to American native-English speakers. We never pronounce-out two letter aircraft names. I don't know why, but it just doesn't happen.

So the US gets the F-15 as it was introduced in 1975 and the Russian “equivalent” is 10 years newer. Seems legit. I hate to harp on this, but the problem here is that the weapons technology for the F-15 is still based on 1975, while the Russian missiles are from the 80’s. This does not feel balanced.
