the SMT is one of my favorite jets at 10.0 great engine, maneuverability, armament and speed, its great at an aggressive playstyle as long as you stay with an eye open
Really wanna see a mig21-93 come to war thunder to help round out the end of the mig21 line
More migs would kill 10.0 but could see it coming

I put a talisman on it, and in like 4 hours i grinded the 175k rp needed for the mig 27k. Definitely one of my favorite plane in the game
Got the SMT recently and I got to say its agility is a very welcome suprise despite having flown a few other migs the SMT is at a br where it can really flex what it can do if it needs to defend itself often.

One of my favorites of the Soviet air tree. This thing absolutely destroys premiums and if flown right is practically untouchable.

I think this is one of the best Soviet jets to talisman. It's rank 7 so it can grind top tier (for now anyway, but rank 9 is not coming for a while), it won't see too many troublesome additions around it, it doesn't see top tier and it won't be moved in BR.
I talismaned it during the sale since pretty much all of my friends I play with also have it tali'd. So worth it, I'm having a blast with it. It's a much better and more exciting grinder than the Su-7BMK (worth mentioning that I bought that one just after the MLD came out, wasn't so terrible back then).

I had a bit of a channel audit recently, and one of the bits of feedback was I should try to make the vehicles more "visually distinct from the background" in my thumbnails. So far, the drop-shadow style of highlighting seems to come out well.

Always loved this plane. It sits at a good BR and I have so much fun with it
i love R3Rs one of my favourite missiles, you can full off some really close range shots of with them. i love the SMT too, great for bullying A-10 and A-6 players, the spine annoys me but a multi cam can help hide it

S-24 rockets on mig-21s are a personal favourite
I do wanna mention hat the MiG21 (and its chinese variants) fly a bit like a mix of a rate and radius fighter, against stuff like F5s and other energy maneuverability fighters it can easily keep up in one circles but against other deltas and phantoms its better to fly it into rate fights, my guess is that the tailed delta config minimizes the aoa of the delta wing but and keeps some energy retention
Thats at least how I've experienced the mig21 in my many years if flying it in warthunder sim
Its wings are smaller than in other delta wing designs, and the twr is great, probably that's the reason
I love to force A10s into 2 circle fights at the end of the match with it just for giggles. It’s surprisingly good at standing on the engine and cranking around at super low speed lol
A minor bit of useless knowledge - The pod that the MiG-21SMT seem to came with at the centerline pylon by default is the SPS-141 Jammer & Countermeasure pod, even though ECM isn't in game yet. Whether this is a prelude to eventually adding ECM capability into the game or simply just to give the SMT some countermeasure slot is unknown.
Also...there's a nuke control box in the cockpit. As this thing was added into War Thunder before nuke, why Gaijin included it is unknown.
Tim can you please give a tutorial on how to aim the rocket for the SKR-7. If anyone can figure it out it is you.
With the mig 21 you don't need no air brake, you just do the screw and drop as much speed as you want in like a few seconds 😂, I usually flew mine with afterburner until like 1/2km from the arifield and then did the screw. EZ af
I see they broke the internal cockpit's radar scope color. It was orange in the past rather than green like right now haha

My opimion but if you play sim battles and understand how it works without CCRP then you dont need it for accurate bombing

My favorite Mig 21 is the R-13-300. The premium one at 9.7. Its an absolute beast.

@@olafkwiatkowski3785late, but it’s good when you learn the plane, it took me a while to learn it but once I did ever game I would have at least 2 kills, the thing is you need to know how to aim the gun, and I would take 4 r3rs and go up to 8000 m then snipe people at a range of 9-6 km from me. Very effective boom and zoom for its br if you can master it

Just got this one, need a grinder for rank 8 russia so i was thinking of maybe using this one, the 21bis or the 23mld. What do you think Tim?
Whichever you're best at. The 23MLD has the best weapons out of the ones you listed, but the 21SMT is in the best matchmaker position.
Tim, Have you tried DCS Before? I think you'd enjoy it
I don't have a good desk setup for a full joystick/hotas, so I don't do much with DCS right now.

are there any notable differences (aside from the fuel spine) between the MIG-21SMT and the MIG-21MF?
SMT is quite a lot heavier and has a lot more fuel, MF is better in the smaller maps because the flight model is noticeably more manoeuvrable while the SMT is good on the big maps cuz of the extra fuel

I've always been told that the Mig-21SMT is better than the Mig-21 MF when both use to be top tier jets along side the F-4E. in your opinion is this still true today? also love your content, I hoped one day you would do a review on my fav Jet, the Mig-21 MF but atlas the SMT and MF are so similar I don't think there is a point :/
You know I’m going off of memory here but if I remember right the MF is a lot better in most maps because it’s a LOT lighter. The SMT is very fat, which plays to its advantage on the huge EC maps because it’s got a lot of extra fuel so you can go max blast for a lot longer
The smt is much better bc it has so much more engine power.
SMT has a great deal more engine power -- a stock SMT has more thrust than a fully upgraded MF, though the extra weight of the SMT is a factor, especially if you fill up its larger fuel tanks. I find the speed difference in combat to be very noticeable, an SMT will leave an MF in the dust in a drag race, but the MF can still perform and has a slight edge in agility due to the lighter weight.

Love the video, great entertaining as always. I was wondering though, why didn't you mention a single time, tha this jet has a 100% copy in german tech tree, in the MF version. I thought that for newer players that would clear some things up and... Well i suppose you play this game longer then me and know it better, why would i try and teach you anything about ot 😂
It really isn’t a copy though. The SMT has a different engine and can carry different weapons, among other things

@@mr.harness1444no, it’s not. Have you looked at the in game stats? They’re literally different numbers. Someone else in the comment section here also asked the difference between the two and other people said they’re different.

I am from 2024 and idk what happened but it fights 11.0 now and also the radar missiles aren't as good.
And It still slaps anything It faces. Did the stock to spade yesterday and It was really really good. R3R are worthless tho, they cannot joust the AIM9C and on 30 launches i probably scored only 2 Kills. Flight performance and r60 are awesome tho.
The SMT is as good a talisman candidate as it gets IMO.

Best 10.7 in the game with F5E
I'm a mediocre top tier pilot, my KD ratios aren't very impressive; and I'm not being modest. In the SMT and MF, however, I have and 8 to 1 (SMT) and 9 to 1 (MF); that says it all about these aircrafts.
coming from the 19pt to this highly reccomend skip other migs and grind 29 with this
The SMT is the power-check against new players that buy the F-5C. You'll clown on them almost instantly and they'll have to either learn quick or stop flying for a bit to get better.
Yeah, pretty much. To be fair, the F-5C only has 2 AAMs, the crappy AIM-9Es. The MiG-21 SMT gets four, R-3Rs, or the amazing(ish) R-60
