I think that one was rejected because the 530s launch off a rail, and the front missile would burn the rear one in the central pylon. Most likely that pylon was only mounted to show mock-up missiles irl.

There was quite a lot of export mirage 3s that has upgrades that included canards, so it was already quite clear they were very good for deltas. Dassault himself said that all deltas following the Mirage 4000 would probably be designed with close coupled canards, and it seems he was proven right
on the other hand, I'm almost 100% sure Sweden (or more precisely Saab) is the reason canards really went into production. The Viggen was the first canard delta plane to enter production (1971), I believe the next one is the Kfir (about 1976) and only then we have the Mirage 4k prototype with its first flight in 1979, 12 years after the Viggen's. I don't know when exactly did production Mirages get canards but it's fair to say it was in the 80's.
The Viggen canards don't have the same effects as all the other examples of closed coupled canards because they are quite big and generate a big portion of the lift, in fact the Draken might behave and be closer to the other canards than the Viggen. To your point they're still canards@@s_ziel
If the CAS loadouts seem impressive at first, the absence of thermals on the targeting pod reaaaally drag it down into the mud in my opinion. Top tier Ground RB maps often have clouds or fog now. Since you don't have thermals, they completely prevent you from CASing. IMO the Mirage 4000 is a great fighter with impressive turning capabilities, but is a pretty poor CAS option. The Mirage 2000-5F remains the best choice in that aspect.
Totally agree, and even if it gets the CDLP pod, it's still inferior to the damocles one found on the 2000 5f. Plus the later has a IOG+laser guided bomb and pgms.
Basically the best or 2nd best fighter in the game, extreme thrust and maneuverability, letdowns are no thermal pod and the short ish range IR missiles, plus the R530D just lacks against a 27ER.. My new favourite for sure though, too bad its in the F8E line so I gotta grind that first...
You’ll be underwhelmed. Not because the plane isn’t good. It is. But it’s so much harder to get more than one kill in than other planes with R73s and Aim9ms. Harder than with the mirage 2000. You have to get so close for your missiles to get a kill that by the time you maneuver behind someone, either the whole enemy team or your team has been killed, or the moment you slid in behind someone, there are 7 other missiles from their team mates coming your way. Plus not having HMD reaaaaally affects this plane. You’re much better off with US or USSR this patch. They can launch multiple missiles from range at different targets and actually get kills.
It felt like a disappointment, the m2k5f is better than m4k atm by a lot, m2k manuvers better, u only loose out of 4 magic 2's inexchange for dogfighting capability, radar, and not bricking up over 20 mins of fuel
Great review as always. One of my most requested planes outside of the AMX Ghibli...which also came this patch!! I take it you review the Ghilbi next??? :)
Eh not really, that's the range you want to use normal IR missiles anyway, even R-73s fail more often than not beyond 3km due to funny way thrust vectoring is modeled. In exchange Magic 2 are very fast, combined with irccm they are extremely hard to avoid, a fair and worth trade imo

Really enjoy your take and approach to the game, and really hope gjin take it to heart, bomberd are interesting part of an air force, and its sad too see these planes ignored, both old and new
I honestly love this jet like all the other Mirages thus far, but I do have to nitpick that the loadouts can be a bit awkward for air to air combat. The mini fuel tanks that hold two Magics are basically dead weight after the first minute of match time, and to carry a full BVR load with the 530Ds you have to sacrifice six Magics. Handling is great, but those caveats and that radar dead zone can be a real pain to work around.
That radar was supposed to have all aspect dopler and HMD. The canards are supposed to be controllable. It should have a FLIR pod. It should have more payload etc etc... I feels like this aircraft has been rushed yet again.
Bug reports after bug reports it's getting fixed don't worry. The canards aren't controllable, they are either fixed like we have, or can be unlocked to be free-floating
@@nicolaspeigne1429they are controlled by the avionics and are very much controllable, as you can clearly see the hydraulics in the manual. They just weren’t used as elevators and acted more like spoilers, which is why you don’t see them constantly moving in video of M4K. But you can find countless photos where they are angled up
When you say the jet has a great sustained turn rate but dumps energy quickly, aren't those two a little contradictory? I would expect something with good sustained turn to not dump away energy quickly. Would you say the M4k is better at sustained dogfights or does it like to get slow? I've never fought any before so it'd be nice to know.
Has anyone else not been able to get a lock with the HDN modes on Russian radars? it will pulse over the target but never get an actual lock then drop completely

A report is still open and acknowledged about 2 more central 530D pylons, so we might get a 10x french missile bus one day !
