Bring back the Victorian pump houses the huge gothic building with huge over engineered iron wheels turning and a full time attendant in a cap and uniform , that will do the job
Similar to ths one originally installed in Severn Tunnel ? ;) The original pumps was in operation from 1880's to 1960's - was powered by steam engines. Next replaced to modern ones. And pumping 50 milion litres (14 milion gallons) average per day from "deepest spring in the world". Still, up to this day pumps must be in operation 24/7 - otherwise the tunnel would be full of water within 26 minutes if the pumps were switched off and backup measures failed...
I’m loving the U.K. commitment to new water ways 😂 . But seriously I went over that bridge a day after it flooded and had to stop and come back to take a few pics
I would suspect there is 3 or 4 Pumps in the sump, setup would probably allow 2 or 3 to run at once, and a backup. Level sensors would detect the height of the water in the sump, when it gets to a certain point, one pump would kick in, if the water rises past the next set point, a second pump would start, and so on. If they can get the water down, as a temporary measure the pumps could be connected to Portable generators at the top, to allow them to be run when needed, whilst permanent repairs are carried out, otherwise, we'll be very quickly back to this position again!
They're only 2 pumps, one runs for 8 hours for example the other will then take over for 8 hours if the level is high they both run continuously with the state of the water companies id not be surprised if only one pump is working and they're waiting 6 months for a new pump from Sweden. A lot of the sewage pumps are only 2 and more often than not one is out of service how water companies get away with this is insane.
The fire brigade have High volume pumping units as part of national resilience. Each pod capable of shifting upto 7000ltrs a minute i think. The pods and associated hose can move water distances of over a mile and can be used in combination and left to operate unattended. Just wonder why they were not deployed if not to provide a good (non emergency) training scenario.
@ProjectUniversalUK that's why I said even just a single lane.... sick of the lorry's coming through my village rather than sticking to the roads designed for them.
@PeterSmith-nc1qs I have no idea what you are on about, it's not about getting over myself or buying stuff off shelves. I am a trades man that has clients all over the county, where the rubbish diversions set up put loads of traffic through villages that are not designed for it. Why are hgv's being diverted from going up the old A421 to the motorway.... they have done that for years before the bypass. What should Cranfield/wootton/ Marston villages put up with these hgv's going through their high street
That pump needs relocating to higher ground, who’s idea was it to put the electrical control cabinets in the area that floods ??? Also the system needs upgrading to a larger units to cope. This is not the first time this has happened, you think they would have learned by now !!
You can’t put the sump or pump at the top of the hill in the same way you don’t put your bath plug hole at the top of the bath. It has to be at the lowest point.
@@ProjectUniversalUKnope you want the pump down low so it can prime easier. Funnily enough, pumps don't mind the water. And if the electrics which are above the road way get drowned out when it rains then you've failed anyway. So its time for a rethink / refit with larger pump capacity.
thought it funny on local news highways said it wasn't the rd design because the rd was designed to protect houses lol lying sod when this rd was finished it has always flooded here and the houses were not there
3:53 Why would you need to look below yourself with the camera to see how high you were? You always keep your drone in line of slight to keep the flight legal. Right? that pump would take weeks to move that volume of water. you can tell from where they put the pump they never expected that amount. the only solution is to raise the road level and raise the bridge.
Would universal want to do it?............ 🤣🤣🤣🤣 They have a park in FLORIDA!!!! have people seen the destruction the hurricane left there last week? This is a literal puddle, wont phase them one bit
Very silly putting the electrical switch gear so close in elevation to the pump... Did no one plan for a 'one in 100yr flood' or anything like that If the electronics were placed higher that pump could have kept running far longer
Most pointless pumping station built in tue same dip that floods that was also and after thought after the road was opened due to piss poor design and for thought
The new Bedford to Milton Keynes waterway is coming along well 😍
Timely for your latest video.
Quite cool to see something local on RUclips for a change, nice work!
Glad you liked it!
Another great video.
Thanks
Keep the updates coming! Great to see
That's the plan!
Good to see how it currently is...this flood made my friday journey to cambridge annoying long.
Try working nearby. It's added nearly two hours to my runs. HGVs have no good alternatives.
Well worth watching none on the cheap again your right put the pumping station higher great work
Thanks 👍
Impressive video, thanks for sharing
Possibly heavy rain coming early next week, should refill that nicely I reckon
Hope not
Oops slight drainage issue!! 😊😮😳😁

Fascinating. Thanks!

They would probably keep their gear ready for action in life threatening situations.
now the slip roads are clear they should let traffic on/off and over, even if it is a single lane in each direction.
They have pumps setup all along the carriageway.

Took me 1hr 30 mins from Goldington Rd to Kingston along the old 421...twice along as usual.
Splendid views. Placing the pump so low was plain stupid. Supposedly called planning.
Yep, terrible idea to put it there.
Went down there a week before the big storm and lane 1 was flooded in just a normal rain shower. I don't think the pumps were working
1:00 priming.
Thats why.
Its easier to pump it up the hill than it is to suck it.
But then why not use a mechanical coupling to join the pump to the elevated motor and switch gear?
That pump needs relocating to higher ground, who’s idea was it to put the electrical control cabinets in the area that floods ??? Also the system needs upgrading to a larger units to cope. This is not the first time this has happened, you think they would have learned by now !!
Definitely needs to go higher

“it has to be at the LOWEST point” . No it doesn’t. Engineer speaking.
And yet the one at Hardwick on the A428 is on the hill, the one at wixams sits at the start of the slip road ect ect
Any truth in the rumours that the pumps were stolen in the spring and yet to be replaced?
I don't know yet, we will probably have to wait till the water is cleared out this weekend.

Don't be daft, simply moving the pump gear to a higher level will prevent this from happening again.

Lol no, the A34 extension near alderley edge did the same thing not long after they built it.
They just upgraded the gear and it was fine.
