Wings of an Angel/ The Prisoner's Song/Last Ride

The Prisoner's Song was the first country hit record in 1925. Vernon Dalhart is the composer of record, although there is speculation regarding the song's origin.
One night when performing at our club, Momma's Blues Palace in Charleston,SC a young man requested The Prisoner's Song . We only knew the chorus so we added instrumental interludes as we repeated the chorus, Momma, our son JoJo, and myself are singing. Roy Brooks plays acoustic guitar,JoJo plays harp, and I play Dobro. The young man said it was the most beautiful thing he had ever heard.
Later that night after the show he was riding his motorcycle home with his buddy and was killed in a crash. Even though we didn't know his name,
we have never forgotten him.
