the lyrics:
Oh I wish I had someone to love me,
Someone to call me their own.
Oh I wish I had someone to sleep with
'Cause I'm tired of sleeping all alone.
Please meet me tonight in the moonlight
Please meet me tonight all alone.
For I have a sad story to tell you,
It's a story that's never been told.
I'll be carried to the new jail tomorrow,
Leaving my poor darling all alone;
With the cold prison bars all around me
And my head on a pillow of stone.
Now I have a grand ship out on the ocean
All mounted with silver and with gold
And before my poor darling would suffer
The ship would be anchored and sold.
Now if I had the wings of an angel,
All of these prison walls I would fly.
And I'd fly to the arms of my poor darling
And there I'd be willing to die.
My mom sang this to me as a child. Such wonderful memories.
This was one of my Moms favourite songs and she too used to sing it to me as a child. She passed on at the age of 88 last year and I still cry when I hear this. Johnny Cash did a nice live slow version too. Love from Malaysia
Hank`s music has been and still are a big blessing for me, I have all his albums counting over a hundred and I consider him as one the greatest country artist of all time. With a style all of his own, a terrific voice and can deliver a lyric believeable plus wonderful guitar styling.
Absolutely. LOVED Hank Snow. These new "so called country today STINK" horrible No one but no one can touch the beautiful classic country music of yesterday. That was beautiful music and voices from the heart
This video put Hank Snow on my radar! I love discovering old country classics! Beautiful song!
Keep in touch. If we could present our sentiment as a group we may save the Grand Old Opry. CFC
Hank had the ability to pull me into the emotion of any song he sang. I hope our younger singers listen & learn. Then they also keep these old diamonds being sung
Amen !!
My sweet Mother used to rock me in her arms and sing this song to me...I was very young at the time, but vividly remember her voice in me ears...and still do. God Bless you, Mom.
A great classic from hank Rest In Peace partner

my sweet mother loved Hank and played him up til she passed. so comforting for me to listen. thank you mamma
I checked most renditions of this great song by many top performers. No one comes close to this . No one .
Hank Snow does it best. Brenda Lee also does a nice job on her cover.
Vernon Dalhart
My uncle was called John Coyle...he liked to sing
Great song ! One of my all time favourites by Hank is a song called my mother !
I love country , beautiful ,
I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to realize what a talent and great voice Hank Snow had.

My 90 year old Great Grand Mother just sang me the song. Had to find it. And play it to her. Love every bit of the song and lyrics!
When I was a kid back in the 1970's my dad would sing this song and the other song "Scarlett Ribbon" in front of my mom and me....he loved country music!

Listen to this man make that guitar sing like there's no tommorow just beautiful with that swing 👍🎸
I know pickers who would Die to have had that Old Martin. they all have such a lovely tone to them
It's very basic picking that he is doing, nothing more. Nice sounding Martin guitar though.
One of the best
Many thanks this is another fine performance from Hank , A pleasure to listen to
I love the original guy that sing this songs but I like the Hank Williams version also he's a great singer. 😊
AWESOME tone on that acoustic guitar!
Hank owned one of my fav old Martin guitars
I agree Hank snow had a great voice one of the finest country music stard
What a great old song. A good slide show as well. Thanks from Australia.
Country Classic Song ( Lovely ) !
Outstanding cover of this classic song and my favorite, followed by Brenda Lee's cover
great song Hank Thanks
Hard to believe that a skinny little fart from Brooklyn, Nova Scotia had such a booming, big distinctive voice. His big success was in the U.S. but he still toured small towns in Ontario in the twilight of his career. Some country music is a reflection of pain and suffering. Hank Snow had plenty growing up as a kid.
Amen, I was thinking the same thing. Hank wasn't much to look at, but such a beautiful singer that made you love him to the bone. He was the favorite singer for the men and women of the Korean War. Nothing said Home to them like Hank Snow.
Thanks for this excellent presentation of a great performance.
i remember my father mom singing this song at parties travis fernandopulle
Mom was always singing this. Miss that so much.
I grew up listening to Hank, still love listening to him, can’t believe last comment was a year ago
Fantastic listening to old music
If I had the wings of an angel . Poetry pure poetry

This is the way it is supposed to be sung
Great ole song by Hank & also great Slide show. ~ Arthur
Beautiful Country song and thanks and wish you a nice Sunday LG LOES!
"My head on a pillow of stone." Who thinks up this poetry ?
The songwriter of course! Who did you think, the mailman?
I think he meant who was the person behind this song.
No screaming, or hollering, no banging the strings, just easy singing and playing.❤
Thanks from South Africa
a great song! I remember it from my mom singing it in the early 50s. She grew up in the 20s and 30s when the original version was quite popular. Although credit is given to Robert Massey, who apparently heard in a Georgia jail, and given to his brother, who helped copy write it with Vernon Dalhart, records show it was probably pinned by Robert Taylor on the wall of that jail cell. Dalhart's recording was probably the first known recording that sold on the market. I guess the real talent never got any royalties or credit for this immemorial song. What a shame. This also happened to a number of great Black writers/singers of the early rock and roll days. Seems to be a uniquely American trait.....making a fortune off of the least of us.
Great song well done 💖👍
Love Hank Snow.
My kind of music. That GUITAR!!! mmmmm.
I like his picking also along with his songs

thanks found them. I have heard and read that the authorship of this song has had many a conflict over it
and hank plays his own acoustic guitar
loved the sound of his old Martin guitar. strangely he never really had any lessons persay, except a few as i recollect. another strange thing about his playing, I rarely see any videos or pictures of him with a Kapo on his guitar. that device is the life blood of most pickers
I have been very
Well, it's better than playing someone else's -- unless their's is better than yours
@@annepolenz4393 Hope you didn't die suddenly at your keyboard.
Hank Snow has the polish and style with that voice the Good Lord gave him to stop an audience in their tracks.
Feel really sorry for poor old Hank! He was the star attraction at the Louisianna hayride when elvis was on in the first half of the programme! He was such a sensation he completely overshadowed the veteran country singer! ( maybe thats why got that toupee! to try and outmatch Elivis's hairstyle! Pete 'Kiwi' Keegan
Peter Beschorner Yes Elvis certainly had the attraction for the youngsters of the day, no doubt about that! But don't forget, it was Hank (& those like him) who laid down the "Trail", for this to happen. You probably know that it was Hank who took Elvis along, very early in Elvis's beginnings. Hank's son Jimmy & Elvis were close, & Elvis used to hang at Hank's house. Give the 2 just a guitar only, & Hank would leave Elvis in his dust! ...& BTW, I'm 74 & I like Elvis very much as well.
+Peter Beschorner He's Canadian that makes him better ;)
I THINK HANK SNOW WAS AND STILL IS ONE OF THE GREATS OF ALL TIME. WISH HE WAS STILL HERE MAKING NEW MUSIC. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE POST.
@@dougworkman2914 I can show you how to turn off CAPS LOCK. I'm sure you could learn over time.
My mother Rohini's favourite song. Her no.1

Another great rendition of this classic is by Floyd Cramer with The great female singer Pat Deasy . I have the recording , I don't believe You Tube has it.
Can I donate it to Y T ?
Just post it from your account and it's there forever.
