@CleanChef I was all over the place but it was mainly between a 'vacuum only' roomba or whatever brands were out there. I am new to the game so I did a lot of research yesterday. There are so many models! I noticed the roborocks got all around good reviews and the Max+ was on sale and checked the boxes, so I went with that. It did it's first run yesterday and we were very happy with how much it picked up between the carpet, rugs, and hardwood! It's not terribly loud either, much quieter than the Shark upright I have. Great vacuum and thanks again for the great video!
Excellent video and i loved the shots at floor level traveling along beside the unit. No idea how you do it! I bought the similar q5pro+ without the bin, seems the same, but I found that the "carpet boost" function doesn't usually work. Roborock claimed my rollers were worn, but not so because I just had 1 hour total time on it. Without high vac on carpets it's a deal breaker for me. Did you test the carpet boost function? Again, your presentation skills are amazing! 👍
Out of all our videos you are the first to appreciate those shots (they are my favorite to see too!) We did test carpet boost and I don't have any notes or even remember it not working! That is goofy they blamed the rollers after 1 hour of use LOL what ended up happening?
Since you're Digital Dan the guru, you know that the carpet boost function on many models is a current draw sensor on the roller motor. In theory when the amps increase like .2a it figures there's carpet present, so up the suction goes, except mine and plenty of others apparently don't. RR offered me a discount on a higher line unit but I dont want to spend $1000 when I started at $159 on Amazon. I'm looking into just running the Q5pro + on max or max+ vac all the time. This will drain the battery somewhat faster but as you point out, the battery is oversized anyway. It's a workaround, but I still can't understand why a $billion company like RR would skimp on what might be a $2 mechanical carpet sensor, and cause possibly many of their models to have inoperable "carpet boost". Money explains most product issues.
Yeah that is most likely your only solution... and yeah seems to be a theme with large companies chasing the never ending profit margin for investors lol
As for your comments inferring the Q5 max+ increased dust bin capacity (mostly) eliminates manual emptying, because I have to manually empty my filled to capacity Q5+ dust bin up to 4 times when vacuuming my 1st floor (we have 2 dogs and a cat) every other day, I believe the increased bin size would still require me to manually empty the dust bin at least 2x before it's ready to self-empty on its own. In any event, I will still have to be present to empty a filled bin since the machine lacks the ability to self empty until the job has finished or a recharge is needed. That's just an observation, not a deal breaker since more capacity is welcome.
Not proprietary... just make sure you buy bags for this vacuum that will fit size wise! But it can be generic or knock off bags again as long as they are made for this model!
I just hit the "buy it" button for this unit a few minutes ago. Should show up Tuesday. Your critique makes me feel good about my choice. I wonder if I could use a long nosed hemostat to empty the bags? I've been doing this with my built into the wall unit for years. Dusty and messy but that fits me to a tee.
Great question. So the mop add on would be very basic as it will just drag the wet mop pad behind the unit. Better than nothing but not as great as their dedicated dual rotary mopping systems. Nonetheless it is nice to have the option for ~$40 to add mopping functionality to this robot vac!
Great review! Everything showed, explained and tested that I would want or expect! Thank you!
So glad to hear this! If there is anything we could improve upon please let us know!
Very well-rounded review, and loved the time lapse and the final specs comparison!
Thanks so much! Anything we could do differently or you felt was missing?
NAH! GREAT REVIEW
Thanks ToastLab!
Great video. Bought one on the last Prime Day, works great.
That is great to hear! It is a solid choice for simple vacuuming and self empty!!
Superb! Thanks so much for sharing this. Made my choice much easier.
Awesome! What were you deciding on and which one are you getting?

Love to hear this.... happy cleaning!!!
Awesome video. Thanks!!
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching :)

Yes great point! Thanks for sharing! You need 2-3 vacuums on your first floor ha!!
In your opinion, does this one perform better than the iRobot Roomba Essential 2?
Absolutely! No brainer!
Greetigs. Nice video. Do you know if the bags for the dock are proprietary or if standard ones can be used?
Not proprietary... just make sure you buy bags for this vacuum that will fit size wise! But it can be generic or knock off bags again as long as they are made for this model!
Can we use the dock without a bag?
Yes you can!

Yeah you could if you wanted to reuse them! Fingers can get alot of the big debris out too!
How does the mop add on work on this?
Great question. So the mop add on would be very basic as it will just drag the wet mop pad behind the unit. Better than nothing but not as great as their dedicated dual rotary mopping systems. Nonetheless it is nice to have the option for ~$40 to add mopping functionality to this robot vac!
Basically a Q5 Pro+ without the mop pad and water tank.
Yup basically lol
