- Here she is, one of three SC44 Siemens Chargers.
Bachmann has really step up their game with new Chargers.
The Bachmann Chargers compliment the Walthers Surfliner-Superliners.
Three of these cars has been turned into cab cars and retrofitted with sound and lights. The Surfliner decals was applied to the cars along with road numbers.
The three new Siemen Chargers will be operating with three four car sets.
A new day has come to the SURFLINE, with new power and new equipment.

Amazing scenery - warm colors and lots of detail. Weird engines they're using nowadays. That's a classy train. All Amtrak cars should be painted this way.

EXCELLENT!!! As it has already been said this is the first video of the Charger in HO; I had to do a double take to see that it was the Bachmann HO units and not real life!! The layout is very well done and matches what a Surfliner passenger sees out of those big windows everyday! I have the Amtrak Midwest #4611 Charger for my Frisco Lines track plan based in St. Louis Union Station. I plan on "incorporating" this Surfliner Charger in a consist "to be delivered" in California! I agree with you, Bachmann has REALLY stepped up their game with this model, from wheels to roof, nose to tail! Keep up the fantastic work on the layout!

Well Athearn has new P40s and P42s coming.
It looks like you might have made a Surfliner set along the same lines as one I made for the Central Coast Model Railroad at the San Luis Obispo Railroad Museum. And that is from Walthers Superliner 1 cars painted with the Surfliner scheme that actually exists on three such real cars (blue window band only to the top of the side). But adding the big "Surfliner" logo name perhaps from Union Station Products decals. And then modifying by scratch building one of the coaches to be a cab car with lights and sound. And now, along come Athearn with their version of cars about to be delivered. I think I might be retiring the ones I made for the museum and likely replace them with Athearn which will be closer - at least being California Cars with two entry doors per side. Also just got a Bachmann Charger for the museum. Nice engine. But just like passenger car lighting in most cars you buy, the interior light you see through the vent screens is overly bright.
So true, Athearn has thrown one heck of a monkey wrench into my operations, acquiring 12 Walthers cars, three converted into cab cars with electronics added and decaled for the actual service, and then here comes the big bad wolf.
Yes my friend, I will be retiring mine, I place a order that will allow me to build at least 2 of the 3 trains. I'm running my Surfliners as 4 car set because it fits into my San Diego station comfortably.
The loco looks great, and the layout is stunning. Nice work!
It strikes me that the Surfliner looks much better without that one Amtrak car in the consist, like the prototype.

Well you know Amtrak is getting 75 long distance version, lets see if Bachmann will react and respond with this version.

I wish you would have put a super liner in it because sometimes those slip there way into surf liner trains
At a later date and only if I can find more of those Surfliner cars, I will or would like to set up a similar train using a regular Superliner car.

The cars are from Walthers.
A few years ago Walthers did these cars for both, Amtrak California and the Surfliner.
The decals from Train Station Products, which they have for the SURFLINER.

Walthers did the Amtrak California and Surfliner Superliners but with minimum markings.
I have 12 cars and running them in 3- four car sets, 3 of these cars where turned into cab cars.

Walthers did those cars a few years back, my good friend decaled them for me and he also turned three of them into cab cars, also my installer installed sound and LED lights in the cab cars.

Those cars are rear and hard to find, but I have some good news, Athearn is bringing out the actual cars later on this year.
Check out Athearn website, the cars release date has been pushed back.

Walthers did the cars a few years back, I ordered the Surfliner decals through Union Station products
How much did you have to pay for that cab car?
I brought all 12 SURFLINER cars when Walthers brought them out.
Those cars ran me $65 ea.
Because I'm running three, four car sets, I had 3 of the cars turned into cab cars. A good friend of mine who is a custom builder took on the job, also another good friend of mine who is one hell of a sound installer, installed the sound and added the LED lighting.
With how rear these cars are and the fact that they are so hard to find, if ever thought about putting them on the market, I was told that the cab cars could worrh as much as $350 and up, but I would never know because my equipment isn't for sell not unless one of the manufacturers decides to do the actual California cars.
How did you get yours so soon? I'm still waiting on mine. From what I'm aware, it's not due to arrive until January.
Hey don't feel bad, I had placed a order with Lombard Hobbies and was told next month.
A very good friend of mine had told me that Star Hobbies in Maryland had them and wow they did, I picked up the two out of 3.
Got a phone call yesterday and was told that my 3rd SURFLINER Chargers was there.
I was scratching my head trying figure out how they have them when no one else has them.

Oh no no no, I was absolutely surprised and a little confused because I was like "Wait? What?" Then I checked Train World and saw some are actually available now. I was surprised and a little confused because according to Train World as of a few days ago, they were due in January. I have mine on preorder with Lombard. I'm going to wait for them to call me and just get it with them. I'm willing to wait a little while longer if it means getting it cheaper through them.
Let me know if you find some Amtrak superliners blue and gray ebay and amazon. How much it cost
The last time that I saw one of those cars, this clown clown was asking $400 for one car, I want to do another train and I would need 4 more, but at that price, yeah right, I guess we will stick with the 3 trains.

I chose to not to light up this railroad right now, all the wiring is there, the next railroad that will be built, sometime in the future will be lighted. As I getting more experienced in electronics and ect., prices and resources are more now available. If I light the signals, I would want street lights, buildings and ect. lighted. There is a area on the layout that I cannot get to and it's a section of downtown San Diego that I would want lighted, so I chose not to do lights, just because of that.
I dislike e bells. I think they recorded a recording from a model train.
Is there a way to trun off the strobe lights because I know someone get annoyed when it fash all the time becuse in the real SC-44 chager there strobe lights turn off when you stop blowing the horn or bell
You may have to call TCS about that, I personally love the flashing strobes. Check over your manual for the CV adjustments or just contact TCS, I have talked to them before, they seem to be really nice people that will help with any problems or questions, especially when it comes to SC44s

Actually they are and not.
Are they the actual California cars, no. Does these cars exist, yes.
Amtrak does use these fill in Superliner cars on the Surfliner.
A few of the Superliners are painted in the Surfliner scheme.
Now in the model world, these cars are close as we gonna get until a manufacturer decides to bring them out, I just took it further by having 3 cars turned into cab cars and decaling the rest of the fleet.
I'm using what we have, and making it work.
So if you have any other ideas, let me know.
