    Ayyyy! The Ulvestad Defense is a really sick line, it can be really nice for Black.
    However, there is one line that a super-aggressive WFM taught me that is pretty tricky and that I think should be covered at some point--after 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Nf6 4. Ng5 d5 5. exd5 b5, there is the shocking counterattack 6. Nc3!?, which she used to win a really nice game.

    0:46 White doesn’t in fact win because black plays Ke6 and it gets really messy and difficult for both. 😅 But when you gain rating black eventually stops playing Fried Liver and does that Na5 instead.

    Thank you for bringing this up! I'm always playing Ng5 in two knights defense so I know the theory of Bc1 retreat when b4 is played, and I think this is end of the line and I just have an extra pawn. However this video shows black still have a strong attack and I still need to defend carefully even if I know Bc1.

    This video shows nice tricks but there's several lines where white remains even or with a slight advantage so I think it takes considerably more study to be able to play this with confidence.

  • @perkalov
    @perkalov 17 дней назад

    Thats just one of the "normal" lines. Ulvestad (a norwegian surname btw) I think its called?
    Fritz would also be an fairly "normal" way to countyer 2 knights defense.
    If you play 2 knights defence with Ng5 as white, then Ulvestads and Fritz are two variants that you need to know. They are relatively uncommon (compaired to the mainline) but you will encounter them from time to time. I know I do. Also play Fritz occationally as black (to throw white of).

  • @IgorYagolnitser
    @IgorYagolnitser 23 дня назад +6

    I still maintain this is not Fried Liver unless Black takes 5...Nxd5 and White plays 6.Nxf7. If White goes 6.d4, that's Lolly Attack.

    • @chinmayaprakash
      @chinmayaprakash 22 дня назад

      You are right. 5…b5 is a theoretical branch of the two knights defence in the Italian game opening theory called the Ulvestad variation. While not as infamous as the Fried liver attack, it is still fairly well known and the best response by White 6. Bf1 is common knowledge to most intermediate level players and beyond.
