Ok so this has to be one of the most high-end videos I have done so far. I am super happy with the results which speak for themselves! However it will be tough to sustain this level for all videos without blowing out my budget. Any support you guys can give me by sharing this online or tossing a buck or two over to my Patreon www.patreon.com/InvictaHistory would really help make it possible to do more of these. I definitely appreciate all the support : )

As is usually the case, I suspect the civilians starved more than the fighters (who were perhaps not exactly "soldiers"). Besides, according to Josephus, much of the food was destroyed in internal fighting between them. Jerusalem was taken by storm, not starved out in a siege.

@@netz8439 Fair enough. It's been a while since I read Josephus, but I know that throughout history the guys with the swords are usually the last to go hungry -- both because they are in a better position to take what they want and because they are considered more essential to the survival of the city. But if the Jews had had more unity and discipline, they might have preserved their supplies and held out for a couple more weeks. I can't imagine taking much longer than that. They had fanaticism, strong walls, and (at the beginning) good provisions, but the Romans had superior organization, experience, and engineering.

How did a bunch of peasants, without training, battle experience, equipment, machinery, tactics, knowledge of siege craft were able to almost defeat, being outnumbered, the roman legions fully equipped, well led, and veteran. Also, I don't buy that 3 guys can set on fire 3 rams manned by tens of legionaries each. Impossible. No chance. How is this true? However, I do buy the ambush stories. They are believable.

    • @christosvoskresye

"Hero" really only meant something like what "superstar" means in sports today. Being a good guy had nothing to do with it, and being brave only counted if you also had success or at least a reputation for skill and/or luck. You can think that Achilles was a whiner, but he was a hero; you can think Goliath was a bad guy, but he was also a hero.
Today the word "hero" has been cheapened almost to the point of uselessness. Today it means little more than "someone wearing OUR uniform". A lot of this is a frankly dangerous overreaction to the inexcusable treatment of veterans coming back from Vietnam, but two wrongs do not make a right.
