Her voice type is Contra alto... So freeing to hear a dark female voice... As I allways said: If I want to be inpressed i listen to great sopranos. If I want to be really moved i listen to great Altos... Very very few sopranos toch me like the best female alto voices does..Theres a few like for an example the so called one of the best Lyric sopranos in the world. So Hyang But often I more get inpressed than really touched by great sopranos.. But the rich tone of a great alto is a whole other thing... Then it is those altos with benifits like Britney Slayes. Who at the same time as they got the alto tonality seems to have endless highs at the same time.... Many of my favorite female metal singers have that type of voice... So a big shoutout to all female altos... You got my heart annyway :) Much love from Stockholm Sweden/ J
Annie has been one of my favorite singers since Eurythmics broke the scene in the early 80s and I went to see them live a few times in New York. She is a master, not only in technique with her soulful voice, beautiful tones, commanding of her tones, and her whole entire performance is different, unique as is her composition with Dave Stewart, especially. I loved her costumes as she stood out from all the other female performers at the time in the 80s, especially with the suit and tie. This is an excellent review of this performance, which is absolutely outstanding!
I grew up listening to the eurythmics in the 80's and annie solo in the 90's and i still believe she was/is one of the best female vocalists of all time! She has such power in her voice i absolutely love it! ..oh and great reactions 'The Vocalyst' .. i love you too!
Annie is incredible and The Eurthymics was my first major concert experience in Australia in 1987! I have been a fan ever since and I love that you did this later performance with that warmth to her tone. David Bowie and Annie’s live version of “Under Pressure” from the Queen benefit concert would be another vocal treat! Love your channel Bethany! 🥰❤️🙏
Love her tone. I’ve seen her live and she is just phenomenal. Great stage presence and keeps you engaged. She brings you along for the ride. 🎙🎙👌🏻👌🏻🔥❤️. Great analysis, as usual. My favourite part is when you go back. Lol Love it. 👌🏻👌🏻
Yeah, "rich" might've been the first word that came to mind for me. Richness, roundness, warmth, and depth. Her voice has this pleasantly "worn-in" (for lack of a more refined way of putting it pre-coffee), comfortable, comforting feel. The timbre itself and her subtle manipulations thereof create a sound that is just so luscious. I love the way those melismatic bursts are expressive and heartfelt, but always measured and, somehow, never gratuitous. One might argue that she doesn't have the limitless range or chops of some of the younger, bionic vocalists of today. Whether or not that's actually true, I don't know, but if it is, I'm glad, because what she did here was absolutely perfect for the piece. Any more and it would have upstaged/overshadowed the music. An extremely classy performance by an ageless icon who does this ageless composition justice and then some.
The World is a better place with Annie in it. I noticed her hand on her belly I think to keep her diaphragmatic breathing. She still is a legend from the Euorythmics but just keeps getting better. What I’d do to see her in concert. Wow.
Best live performer I have ever seen...and I've seen her with Eurythmics a lot and once as a solo artist....more charisma than anyone else I saw live in over 40 years of concerts...ps go Google Annie Lennox/Hozier at Grammys you can't watch on youtube but you find video of her masterclass on how to steal the show...its worth your time
There are so many amazing female vocalists, but Annie is easily in the top 10 of those conversations. Her tone can transcend different genres with no problem. If pressed to do soul, she'd be able to pull it off. Pop, classical, you name it. Another vocalist that comes to mind that can do this is Linda Rondstadt. As for Annie Lennox, I'm partial to her 80's work with Dave Stewart as the Eurythmics. "Love Is a Stranger" is incredible and showcases her range really well. I'd like to see a review of that song.
Yep, not 30+, more... She started singing when I was born Ahahah, 45 years ago. Wonderful singer, beautiful voice, very characteristic. I remember when I was recording music from the radio and her band Eurythmics.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!🥰 She is one of my all time favorites! She has so much range but unfortunately doesn't use it much, imo. She started out with Sweet Dreams and another song where she sounded like an angel. I wore out my cassette tapes listening to her and Dave! Ha ha!
Lately I've been obsessing on Joss Stone's 2021 live version of You Put A Spell On Me. I really enjoyed Annie Lennox's interpretation of this song. Very different styles but both make it their own.
Love your reaction as always, Bethany. I especially love it when you react to my favorite singer (and diva), Morissette. I am hoping you will get back to her soon. For that eventuality, may I suggest her Bruno Mars Evolution Medley. Also, last month she sang live at a series of concerts with David Foster and Friends in Manila. Her performance of The Bodyguard Medley was wonderful. The version from day 2 (she is wearing a pink gown) is the best, in my opinion.
Annie has been quite *undeniable* since the '80s. This is a nice later capture. I wish she wrote more solo stuff, but hey, you can't have it all I suppose! :)
For a slightly disturbing and dark but iconic and beautiful vocal performance by Annie please check out No More I Love You's by Annie (official video version.) She won a grammy for her performance of the song in 1995. Truly unforgettable and haunting!
Was never a big fan of Annie and the Eurythmics in the 80's was torture for me. The song No More I Love You's changed my mind about her capabilities and led me to an appreciation. The whole song is vocally based with less instrumentation to get in the way of her shining through. Yes totally agree with your comments near the end. She is very visual and a bit theatrical. 👍
I have two, completely different genres for you to check out if you're up to it. First is Iron Maiden, live in Rio singing "run to the hills" Bruce's voice is incredible. The second is Al Green singing live "Tired of being alone" on (Soul school). He is by far my favorite R&B singer from the 70's and his voice is unmatched.
Lennox is one of my favorite "unique" singers ... no one like her. Dolores O'Riorden of the Cranberries was unique in the same way. I'd love to see your reaction to her as well. "Twenty One" and "Dreams" are good songs to start with IMO.
Annie Lennox is one of the voice with which I grew up (beginning with Eurythmics in the 80's for my teenage). I love, for example, this time chen she honored Sting : ruclips.net/video/45LTdsV1cyQ/видео.html
Shirley Bassey! Could you try to have a listen to her. I LOVE your channel xx PS: my singing has improved following your beautiful insight and attention to detail, many thanks xx
As a new subscriber I'm cherry picking my favourites... Zeppelin, S.R.V., Bonnie Raitt and now Annie. Being a very old Brit i've been listening to her since the very first Eurythmics single....
this is a bit of an odd one, but lynda carter (of wonder woman fame) did some lounge songs for the game fallout 4. i would love to see a reaction to “i’m the one you’re looking for”
hey @The Voaclyst, would be nice to hear what you think about : bring me the horizon One Day The Only Butterflies Left Will Be In Your Chest As You March Towards Your Death...
Annie Lennox the magic woman...Amazing artist!! Thank you!

Annie's Voice is so powerful and commanding she holds my attention all the way through what a great choice for a performance to react to 🤗
What a phenomenal performance I just adore Annie Lennox.
Her performance of this song on the Grammys is EVERYTHING ! Even better than this one !
She's just enthralling. No doubt.

Agreed. Great power and range both. She's one of the best ever. Same goes for her off the charts charismatic stage presence.
I've always thought she was shamefully underrated...lovely low voice, and she still has that power and tone!
I just love Annie so much! She just makes everyone happy when she sings.
An epic performance she is a bad ass in every way!!

So glad you covered Annie.. My Top 3 Female Voices of all time (for the past 35 yrs) Streisand, Karen Carpenter and Annie Lennox !
Annie Lennox has always been one of my favorites! Girl got Soul & can belt it. Giving thanks for this with my early morning coffee! Smiling. 🎶😁👍☕🔥
I had the extreme pleasure of seeing the Eurythmics at Red Rocks in 1984! Great reaction thank you!

Instantly recognizable and spectacularly soulful voice!
I adore Annie Lenox. Amazing singer.

I've always enjoyed her singing and the fact that several pieces of her music were chosen for movie soundtracks just justifies her talent (IMHO).

What took you so long to review Annie? Her voice is so unique, haunting. Sends chills down my spine whenever I hear her sing.
she is power embodied

Annie is amazingly talented. I think that's the word you're looking for. This is wonderful. I enjoyed your analysis so very much. Thank you!
She is pure passion
Remember when she first came out, damm am getting old.....sweet dreams
You sure know your stuff Vocalysta. Respect👍🏻🇨🇦
Just gonna say a couple things. First off, great reaction, second, who could listen to Annie and not absolutely love her?
Love your reaction as always, Bethany. I especially love it when you react to my favorite singer (and diva), Morissette. I am hoping you will get back to her soon. People with that much talent and the ease of use…God plays through her👍🏻
Annie is Amazing live .Great reaction x

Great choice, Annie Lennox is fantastic! If you have the inclination, please check out Joni Mitchell singing “Amelia”. 😊

Would you consider Linda Ronstadt's Long Long Time?

Theres a great version from the Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour in 1970.
As a new subscriber I'm cherry picking my favourites... Zeppelin, S.R.V., Bonnie Raitt and now Annie. Being a very old Brit i've been listening to her since the very first Eurythmics single....
Annie has always been incredible. You should do Freddy Mercury, Natalie Merchant and Leonard Cohen.
would love to hear you break down Susan Tedeschi and Joss Stone
Check out her song, love song for a vampire
this is a bit of an odd one, but lynda carter (of wonder woman fame) did some lounge songs for the game fallout 4. i would love to see a reaction to “i’m the one you’re looking for”
Hey, how’s it going? Please check “HIM sleep walking past hope live” hope you enjoy
Have you done any of the Bryan Ferry songs, exp.: "More Than This" it's a pretty song, kind of sad though.
She’s surely a rare bird…gets better as she ages. It’s like her clear tone comes from the centre with some…not grit. Rasp on either side
You can review me singing "Happy Birthday" if you want to do a bloopers video.
🤣 Deal.
And Sinead O'connor...
this is a terrific choice. My all-time favorite live performance of hers is this one ruclips.net/video/Og-_n0R9_dI/видео.html
Beth Hart with Joe Bonamassa
