The lineup changed in 2021: the original bassist (Miho) left. In 2022 they got bass wunderkind Fami to replace her.
Current lineup:
Asami - vocals (used to sing soul and R'n'B, writes the lyrics and has taken more and more to composing also; has obviously embraced metal fully)
Miyako - guitar, piano, keyboard (dark-haired, red flying V guitar in this video, writes and arranges half the songs)
Midori - guitar (blonde, hobby bodybuilder with two silver medals in open Japanese tournaments)
Fami - bass (the youngest member now, also has her own channel with bass covers and has her own EP out with great funky pop)
Haruna - drums (the shortest member at 4'8'', nickname "Little Big Engine", really a superb drummer)
They are based in Tokyo, although the guitarists are both from the Osaka region (Miyako has a thick Osaka accent) and Asami is from Sapporo, Hokkaido, I think. Haruna is from Shizuoka (near Tokyo), and Fami is an original Tokyo gal. Miyako started to learn classical piano at 3, Midori at 2, and they both switched to guitar around 20. They both went to conservatories, I think. Not much else is known about the individual members; they are keeping their private lives very private, we don't even know Asami's family name or Fami's real name (Fami is a stage name). We do know that Miyako, Asami and Haruna are married and that Miyako and Asami (who seem to be fairly close friends) both have a baby girl. Midori (the bodybuilder) is the oldest member at 35, and Fami is the youngest at 21. Miyako is 33, I don't know Asami's or Haruna's age.
They've been active as a band since 2016 and in 2018 won Metal Hammer's award for best new band. They did tour Europe in 2018 and 2019, also playing large festivals, but have since cut back on touring overseas, although they will be playing at ProgPower in Atlanta, GA in September 2024. (If you want to go, hurry up getting a ticket, it's a fairly small festival.)

I don't think Miyako ever went to music school. Her guitar skills are self-taught using textbooks. I thought Haruna was single, but maybe I'm wrong? . In 2014, she had previously talked about retiring from her music career due to her marriage, but we have heard that her engagement has since been called off. Haruna's girlfriend's age is not disclosed, but based on her educational background and other data, she estimates that she is currently 32 years old.

The Japanese female music scene is ridiculously good.
Lovebites for sure is one of the best, since I love the melodious take on 80s thrash, power and speed metal. I believe you just can stick to their live stuff, since it's IMO better than studio.
My favourites here is "Hammer of wrath", "Holy wars" and "Set the world on fire".

If you look at this bass-player, she looks a bit younger than the others.
During the Pandemic, Miho who founded the band left. Due to personal problems... Which might have been amplified by the rest wanting to develop their sound.
When Fami was announced a year ago, she was 20, while the others are in early 30s.
A true prodigy who was considering stop playing, since there were no real challenges left...
Then the audition appeared, and rest is history.
Sidenote: Fami wasn't the youngest to audit. She got to the quarter final and was only 15.

"Holy War", not to confuse with "Holy Wars" from another band, is the song, that is most used for first contact with LOVEBITES! Hundreds (really, I've searched for them and stopped counting beyond 300 reactions) of reactors have reacted to it, and for most of them, it was the first time, they've ever seen or heard of LOVEBITES. When I see this, it's always "Holy War? Holy shit, what was that?" Most frequent reaction: "Wow!"

Congratulations, you just found the best new metal band to come along in decades. In their first five years of existence, they put themselves on par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. They recently went on a year-and-a half hiatus while they waited out the pandemic and searched for a new bassist. They announced the new bassist in October 2022 (see below) and dropped their first new song on December 22. Their new album, “Judgement Day”, was released two months later.
They did their first live performances in more than two years in summer of 2023, with their new bassist Fami. Their very first show was commemorated on the DVD “Knocking on Heaven’s Gate”. They have posted four performances from that DVD-“”Hammer of Wrath”, “Judgement Day”, “Nameless Warrior” and “Liar”. All of them are barn-burners.
Some background:
They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and founder of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the great European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other groups. The four of them then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she was also trained in ballet).
Miyako has composed a little more than half of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics and is also getting involved in composing.
In mid-2021, Miho left the band she had founded, for personal reasons. They went on hiatus while they searched for a new bassist, and during that time, two of them had babies, even as the band were writing and rehearsing their new album. They recently announced the new bassist, Fami, who is a young phenom and herself a composer and multi-instrumentalist. The instrumentalists studied all the great historical metal bands going back to Purple and Sabbath, through Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Helloween, Slayer etc. They have incorporated some of the best of each of those bands into their arsenal, and have created a sound that is fresh and cutting edge while paying tribute to the old masters. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance was that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining.
They do everything from soulful power ballads to heavy thrash. Almost every song includes face-melting solos by Miyako and Midori. The two guitarists are quite different in style and tone. Midori (blonde ponytail) is the extrovert and speed demon; Miyako is the introvert, with the more soulful feel (though she can also shred like crazy). Midori uses a cleaner tone, Miyako uses more distortion, pinch harmonics and pedal effects. The contrast makes their duets rich and dynamic. It doesn’t hurt that either one can smoke most of the shredders in the classic metal bands. As another reviewer said, "It seems criminal these two are allowed to be in the same band."

Miyako is also a virtuoso concert pianist, and was headed for a career in classical music, before picking up the guitar. She is self-taught on the guitar. Japan is a hotbed of highly-talented rock and metal bands that are either all women or have a strong female presence. I think it’s because the stigma of those two genres being the exclusive domain of long-haired, black-wearing men doesn’t exist in Japan. As others have said, this was one of two “comeback” shows for LOVEBITES and the first with their new bass guitarist, Fami. Everything from 2021 and before will be with Miho Rosana who, last I saw, was playing as a guest with a group called Aldious. LOVEBITES was formed in 2016 by Miho(Ba) and Haruna(Dr), members of the band "DESTROSE", which went on hiatus in 2015.
The girls made their major label debut in 2017 (March 24) with "THE LOVEBITES EP".
On 18 June 2018, LOVEBITES won 'BEST NEW BAND' at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods 2018 awards organised by the British metal magazine METAL HAMMER.
On 4 August, LOVEBITES performed on the W.E.T stage at WACKEN OPEN AIR 2018, one of the world's largest annual metal festivals in Germany, with the 10,000 capacity venue almost full.

On August 20,2018, LOVEBITES announced that it has partnered with X-ray Touring, one of the largest players in the UK booking agent industry.
LOVEBITES toured the Netherlands, Germany, France and UK from November 13-21, 2018.

Lovebites has been around since 2016, and the women became more famous worldwide after performing at several major festivals, mainly in Europe, starting in
2018 - Wacken - Open Air in Germany
2018 - Bloodstock Open Air in England
2019 - Graspop Metal Meeting Festival in Belgium
2019 - Download Festival in Spain.
In 2020, their career was abruptly interrupted by Corona. But they masterfully overcame the crisis, got married and had babies. In 2021 the founder Miho left the band for personal reasons and it went into a hiatus which lasted until the end of 2022. In the fall of 2022 they found a young fantastic bass player and in 2023 they released a new LP. The new LP reached the 5th place in the Japanese charts. Japan is the 2nd largest music market in the world and it is very rare that in these times a rock band comes so far forward.

Great reaction, Your faces said it all. Japan is home of many extremely talented musicians of both genders and it could be said that talented all female bands are almost a dime a dozen. A few other all-female recommendations: Band Maid, heavy rock; Nemophila, metal and my favorite, Gacharic Spin, hard rock, electronic rock, metal, actually a variety of genres, who have live shows where energy is off the charts. This is the song that got my attention; Gacharic Spin MindSet (Live at EX THEATER ROPPONGI on June 20th, 2021)

Welcome to LOVEBITES 🤘🏼🐺🔥
The band is around since 2016 and released their first EP and album in 2017. At this point they have 4 albums, some singles and EPs and also 4 official live DVD/Blu-ray releases.
They’ve already toured in Europe back in 2018/2019, including the major metal festivals as Wacken, Download, Bloodstock, Graspop. Then came Covid, their original bass player and founder Miho quit the band for personal reasons and two babies were born. After that LOVEBITES came back with new bassist and new song „Judgement Day“ in late 2022. New album with the same title came out in February 2023.
LOVEBITES finished touring in Japan a couple of weeks ago. Earlier this year in march they played their comeback show. This was their first live gig since 2021 and first show with their new bassist Fami. There are 4 videos on their YT channel from this show including the one you‘ve seen.
We the Wolfpack, name of LOVEBITES fans worldwide, are all hoping for a world tour next year. LOVEBITES have already announced 2 international festival appearances for 2024 (Atlanta, USA + Cartagena, Spain)

The all female rock group (3 sisters) you SHOULD check out is 'The Warning - DISCIPLE Live at Teatro Metropolitan CDMX 08/29/2022'. Just an impressive performance with great sound and stage presence. You won't be disappointed.

My favorite band.
5 young women, including 2 new moms, 1 fitness competitor, and their tallest ( at 5'4") and newest member who was recently still in school and had her own following of over 700,000 subscribers before even joining the band. This is a very talented band who are still pretty new on the scene having been formed in 2016. I think they will only continue to get bigger over the next decade.
Well, you’ve just witnessed greatness. Thanks for reacting to amazing Lovebites and spreading the word because they deserve more recognition. These women are extremely talented, skillful and versatile exceptional musicians. Their live performances are outstanding. Some people say that they’re redefining metal. Their main influences are Iron Maiden, Metallica, Slayer, Judas Priest, Dragonforce, Megadeth, Angra, Yngwie Malmsteen, Deep Purple, Pantera, and even Gary Moore, but they have been developing their unique style. Asami used to sing R&B, soul and jazz before she joined the band. Miyako is also a concert level classical pianist, trained since she was 3 years old and a self-taught guitar player. Miho (ex bassist and founder of the band) said in an interview that they wanted to play as heavy as men but keeping their femininity. Those twin lead guitar solos by Midori and Miyako are already legendary, in just six years. Lovebites toured the UK in 2019 opening for Dragonforce (they’re good friends, by the way). In addition, Lovebites toured Europe and Asia in 2018 and 2019. Their presentation at Wacken Open Air (Germany, 2018) was a real success. My next recommendations are “Hammer of wrath” (2023 version), “Set the world on fire”, “Liar”, “Break the wall”, “Raise some hell” (all live)

Japan has many female bands. I’m not sure if it’s more accepted, nurtured, or something in the water, but they far exceed any other country in this. Also, not just in metal. I’ve seen all types of music. My favorite bands are Band-Maid, Lovebites, BRATS, Trident, Gacharic Spin, and I’m sure there’s more I can’t think of now. For the last 5 years or more Band-Maid is my top band period. Beating out many I’ve had in the past. Please check out their new live video Puzzle and new MV Shambles. They also have CC if you want to read the lyrics but it can be confusing the first time. Lovebites is a close second. They are just getting better and better. Especially with their new bassist Fami. But I recommend check out any of the ones mentioned.

The youngest one in the band is Fami is 20 or 21 the rest are late 20s and early 30s
Fami turned 21 in June.
Miyako was born in April 1990 so she is 33. Midori was born in May 1988 so she is 35. I am guessing that Haruna and Asami are at least 30 right now. Haruna started with Destrose in 2011 as a support drummer before she became an official member in January 2012, so age 30 today is probably pretty accurate. I believe the general consensus was that Haruna was the youngest member during the Miho days., so Asami is probably 30 or 31.
@@danw6048 IIRC, Haruna turns 33 in December... For Asami, I'm not so sure, she could be up to 38 (this is the most reasonable age)...
@@rainerzufall42 That would mean that Haruna was born 12/30/1990 and started playing for Destrose at age 20 and joined officially right after turning 21. I had always understood that she stared playing for Destrose after graduating high school at age 18.
I doubt that Asami is 38, especially considering she became a mother with her first child last summer and the average age for new mothers in Japan is 30. If I had to guess, I would say that Asami was born 7/10/1992

Lovebites, a band that just sounds better live than on the albums (imho). You seems surprised that they're an all female band, in Japan the female musicians are a force to be reckoned with. There are a lot of all female rock/metal bands there. Some of them (like Band-Maid, Nemophila and Hanabie) have toured the US. Some all femaie rock/metal bands from Japan: Hanabie, Aldious, Band-Maid, Nemophila, Fate Gear, Bridear, Destrose, Mary's Blood, Doll $ Boxx, Gacharic Spin, Otoboko Beaver, Hagane, Show-Ya (the grandmothers of all female metal bands). These are the bands I'm familiar with, but there are a lot more. It's a deep rabbit hole.

I see the Wolfpack filling you in on Lovebites, and you have heard The Warning. Both unique and excellent.
Check out Band-Maid when you can. They do a lot of different and progressive things, but basically inventive hard rock. They toured the US this past year. They recently did a big concert at Yokohama and recording was only allowed on one or two songs (most Japanese venues don't allow any recording). Choose Me was one.
They have like 140+ songs now, no bad ones. A few: Freedom (I like Feb 14 2020 Shibuya performance a lot), Puzzle, Dice, Domination, Manners, and Shambles. Live concerts are even better than studio. And recent performances of their earlier stuff are massaged and made richer.

Lulu, I believe the guitarist you referenced was Fami. A recent addition to the band following the co-founder Miho's departure. After Miho quit the group, the took a one year hiatus to do an active search, worldwide, regardless of age, ethnicity, or sex (Male or female). Fami stood out from the 1000's that applied and auditioned. There is a separate video that relates to that process, although it's mostly in Japanese. All of the ladies speak English, fluently I believe but they all have very strong Japanese vocal patterns. As backing singers they do extremely well. Miyako, the lady with the long black hair, does most of the composing and is a multi-instrumentalist, as well as a concert pianist classically trained from age 3. Just so you know, Japan has tons of all female metal bands...and usually damn good too! What I listen to a lot myself are Aldious are Hanabie. The latter is a metalcore band, that just toured the USA. Band-Made is more of hard rock, but has grown a lot lately. And so has Nemophila of course...

nemophila's drummer, bassist, and singer came to "the last judgement day in zepp yokohama" on october 5, 2023, the last day of LOVEBITES tour. after the live performance, nemophila's drummer tweeted: "I went to LOVEBITES live show. Everyone was super cool🤘😝🤘❣❣❣ I've always wanted to see you all📸❤🔥 I felt so happy🥴 Thank you so much😊😊😊" after the concert, three went to LOVEBITES waiting room, greeted five, and took a photo with eight. nemophila singer later went fishing with lovebites guitarist miyako.
I've been a fan my whole life of all girl bands who can rock out as hard as the guys. Somehow I missed this one so thanks for turning me on to them. I will be checking them out. If you want to expand your horizens in this genre check out Japanese all female rock bands. Their are tons of them on You Tube covering 20 yearsand they will blow your mind. Ask Donna what that term means. She should know
Y'all should listen to Band Maid, another all-girl band from Japan. Their music is more rock than heavy metal but they're just as awesome as Lovebites.
