I don't have a video on the battery charger, but it's the Hitec RDX1. The adapter you can find it on Amazon - www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074QK5M7P/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
As a complete newbie to RCs, thank you!!! I just ordered an SCX24 as well as this charger. Still waiting for shipping. Can you tell me what's included with this charger? I see you have a thing for the balance port. Is that included? If not, where do I find one that fits this charger? Also, that pig tail you have. What is it called? I don't even know what kind of connector this charger uses.
Welcome to the world of RC! The balance port is included with the charger. As for connector, Amazon has RC Lipo Battery Charger Adapter Connector Splitter Cable that goes for around $10-12. This is the one that I have. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074QK5M7P/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I use the JST plug for SCX24.
That works, but there were several reasons for going this route for me. 1) I needed longer cable 2) I did not like to plug and unplug from ESC port all the time 3) It opens up different battery options , and 4) I would like to see the actual voltage using the balance port.
Wish I would have watched this, before I was investigating conector name. I hate that jst ph2.0 connector as I plug, unplug battery after every use. I need to solder in a new connector so I can leave the jst pigtail in the esc.
I was thinking I needed to do something like this. I'm just worried about splicing wires on the battery. If it wasn't my only battery I'd give it, but I don't know. Great idea though...I was wondering how people used jst connectors on these scx24.
As long as you work on one wire at a time, you will never have issue. You just need to avoid crossing the wires. If you still feel uncomfortable, you can always buy a 2nd battery with JST connector.
@@BigSungHobbies I think I'll go ahead and give this a shot then. As long as that's all there is to it then 😁 I appreciate the info and suggestion, thanks 👍
Just take your time. And make sure, you cut one wire first...doesn't matter black or red, and don't forget to insert heat shrink before you solder the wire. Once you have that done, then cut the other wire. NEVER try to cut both wires at the same time!
I have a question you soldered The male connector to the battery, my question is there’s two bear aluminum pieces on the outside of the plug if a piece of metal touch that would shorted out
The JST SYP connector comes like that. The metal leads are recessed a bit. It's the same with stock connector or even XT30 connectors. They all have some recession on it, but the two leads are all exposed, so need to be careful.
Nice video!! Hello I would like to know if you know of any compatible ESC for scx24. I don't find the original anywhere and maybe you know if I can fix another. Thanks! You do a great videos
Thanks, and unfortunately, I have not really looked into a replaceable ESC although at some point I might just pick up Holmes Hobbies BR Mini ESC and a FlySky receiver so that I can use my transmitter.
Like any RTR, the stock servo usually does not last. I upgraded to an Emax servo right away, and I have not had any issues. I do hear that the stock motor doesn't last and should be changed, but I am still running the stock motor without any issues. A big mistake that most people do is add tons of weight. My build philosophy is see if you can shift things around and add weight only where needed to get to 60% front / 40% rear weight distribution. I have had mine for few months without any replacement parts.
The connector is called JST SYP, not JST SIP. Also, you can improve your videos by showing the name of parts so people can read the item names. This will improve your videos because your audience can pause the video and search for the parts. This makes it easier for them instead of going back in the video to listen for what you a said. It's better ergonomics. It would be helpful for you to reference a link to these connectors in your video descriptions.
I use my full size ones, Tenergy T180 and Hitech RDX1. Spend money on good quality charger that can balance charge, discharge and put it on storage mode. It's well worth the price.
Theoretically there is no limit, but due to overall weight of the SCX24, there is going to be diminishing return. I find I like 450mAh on mine, but I have seen others go opposite by going with much smaller for weight savings.
I don’t think there is a recommended mah, but it really depends on your use. Personally I really like the Gens Ace 450mah which has good balance of runtime and weight.
Hi , As you said the stock charger is so bad, it actually started smoking and stopped working. What can i do? i cannot charge my sx24 deadbolt anymore! please help!
As long as it’s 2s, the stock ESC will handle it. But few things to consider. 1) the weight. 1500mAh will be way too heavy for scx24. 2) The long runtime might not be good for stock motor. The motor is not heavy duty.
This is the one that I have, and it's 2S. I bought directly from Gens Ace. www.genstattu.com/tattu-450mah-7-4v-75c-2s1p-lipo-battery-pack-with-jst-syp-plug.html
@smallcrawlrc No problem. I am really liking it. Runtime is significantly better for 5g penalty, and the 75C gives me a bit better punch when I need it. On top of that it's so much cheaper than stock one.
It weighs roughly 5g more than stock. I was at 58/42 weight distribution, so I figure I will take the 5g gain to change the weight distribution which is now at 59/41. Once I decase the ESC case, then that should get me to 60/40.
Thanks, and the brass knuckles and front brass diff cover will be ideal items to add first as it adds mass at at axle level instead of rotational weight.
@@BigSungHobbies I understand limiting rotational weight. I have RC4WD "scaler" aluminum wheels. They weigh 1 gram more than stock wheels with HR wheel weights. They work well. :)
Which SCX24 model do you have? I am thinking of this battery modification. However I am afraid the thicker battery won’t fit in the clearance between the chassis and the upper shell.
I have the C10 version. I had no issues, but I can’t confirm on other models. One thing, if you have access to 3d printer, there is a LCG battery tray which works great.
@@BigSungHobbies I am holding to get my first SCX24. Personally I prefer a c10, but a jeep might wins for its bigger space internally. What’s the max thickness of your battery? I will take that into account while buying batteries. Thanks
@@BigSungHobbies Nice vid! I’m going to use this video to change my battery connectors. QUESTION- I converted one of my SCX24 to bash around- speed runs. I have the furitek Komodo ESX and about to buy batteries- is it worth it to spend a couple more bucks to get the 75C versus the 45C on the Gen s Tattu 3S lipo battery?

Hi. What is the largest mAh capacity can use to our scx24?
Theoretically there is no limit, but due to overall weight of the SCX24, there is going to be diminishing return. I find I like 450mAh on mine, but I have seen others go opposite by going with much smaller for weight savings.
Hi do you happen to have a link to your 8in 1 battery connector cable please
Here you go - www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074QK5M7P/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Whats the recommended mah for an scx24
I don’t think there is a recommended mah, but it really depends on your use. Personally I really like the Gens Ace 450mah which has good balance of runtime and weight.
Would a 4.35v high voltage battery cell (2s) cook the electronics?
I have not tested high voltage lipo on scx24, so I am not sure. I have no issues on 1/10 scale, but they tend to be a bit more beefier.
What is the name of the battery you use
It's Tattu 7.4V 2S 450mAh 75C LiPo Micro Battery - JST-SYP
Hi , As you said the stock charger is so bad, it actually started smoking and stopped working. What can i do? i cannot charge my sx24 deadbolt anymore! please help!
You can always pick up a hobby grade charger which would be recommended.
I already have a 1500mah 2s from an Others Car. Can the Stock ESC Form the scx24 handle it or is it to much?

Is the tattu 800 mah to much for this? It’s only a 45c though.
It will add weight, but it will work. I find that 450mAh seem to be a decent balance, not too much weight and decent run time.
link to batterys ?
I use the following - ebay.us/xWGI2k
Is the Tattu 450 a 2 or 3s? Only finding a 3s on amazon.
