    Actually when I decided to try having a Guppy I never even thought about housing them with other fish aside from Mollies because as far as I know they are some what related and they do crossbred rarely and they are both chill and share the same diet. I just run into a bit of problem on what food to feed them both since they have small mouth and come across a powder type food for juvenile fish and I mix them with a fine powder feeds for the fry, so all fishes can be fed at once.

    I used to have a betta in with a few guppies. He absolutely loved eating the fry which was good for me as our tank wasn't massive and guppies have a tendency to just breed like crazy. The adults never bothered him and he never got aggressive with them either so they were a perfect match.

    Otocinclus requires basically opposite water parameters than guppies . Just like neons .guppies , like all poecilids thrive in hard water with higher ph . True that they can adapt but there is difference between just keeping fish and keeping them well .

    For me, platies and telescopic eyes(except when breeding) were my best guppy buddies also white and yellow mollies, my mollies are huge but buddies with guppies, small koi are okay too. They've to be small.
    No Gouramis, oh god what a mistake that was.
    The neon tetras and zebras I got were aggressive, I've no Idea why.
    My guppies cant breed in the tank, as do the platies and mollies, they'll eat the fries. They breed a lot, I've a separate breeding tank and one as nursery.
    They all go along fine.
    I've to try the rasaboras and maybe give neon tetras another chance.
    no way I'm trying cherry shrimps, that's expensive food for the guppies.

    • @jeffereyhopkins750
      @jeffereyhopkins750 2 года назад +1

      Correct, gouramias are not good fish to keep with guppies. Besides getting to large for the tank potentially, they can become aggressive and if you want babies you definitely will not have any with them.

    @elma6okolad 2 года назад +9

    I had some bad experiences with Sword Tails. My worst was with my first Guppy fish tank. I decided they needed some fish mates and put in some Mollies and Sword Tails. Right away I started seeing some fin nips on the Guppies. But since I hadn't seen any attackings I though it was a water issue. After a couple of weeks all Guppies were dead but some Mollies and the Sword Tails were left. I grew suspicious of one of the Mollies cause it looked somewhat aggressive but alas it got its tail niped and died. The beginning of the end was when there were only 2 Sword Tails left; one male one female and she was harassing him and he died. I was the female Sword Tail all along but I was to study to notice it and really didn't expect it. I wanted to have a peaceful tank with Guppies again so I decided to convict the female Swords Tail to my Turtle (Red-eared sliders) tank. She lasted for about a week or so until they caught up with her and took her apart.

      I would get a breeding net to put in the tank. I would also have six female guppies and three female platties. It’s a good ratio to have. A good rule of thumb is to keep three females to every one male because if there’s an even number of fish he has no choice to only harass those females. This is a good way to not only prevent stress but also prevent to many pregnant fish at once.

      If their shell is a skinny spiral shape with no point it’s a rams horn. If they have a whorl at the side it’s a mystery snail. If it has a point at the end it’s a pond snail. If it has a long cone shaped shell it’s Malaysian trumped horn. Or if they have Avery round shell sometimes with horns on them it’s a nerite snail.
      If you have pond snails or trumpet snail get rid of them by using some blanches veggies in a water bottle with the top cut off as a trap. Or you can try aquarium snail rid products but some snails are harder to kill than other. Or you remove them by hand.

      James Merryman ohhhh okay well that makes a lot of sense! So the issues I had in the past came from only having two or three gourami. I think my little buddy is doing okay on his own right now though. I recently almost all of the fish in my biggest tank so I’m very hesitant to make any changes. They only thing that seemed out of whack was a sudden increase in water hardness. I don’t know if that could kill fish but something really affected my stock....

    Bristlenose pleco need bigger tank than guppies, and mollys can be hit or miss cos they like salty water so can be a bit difficult for the beginner

    Swordtail, guppies, platy in 20 gallon tank how many of each?

    • @BugTheSandWorm
      @BugTheSandWorm 3 года назад

      Well a good rule of thumb to keep in mind is however many inches a fish grows it should have one gallon per inch. So if a fish grows to four inches it should at as a bare minimum four gallons.

  • @ADHDturtle123

    • @ADHDturtle123
      @ADHDturtle123 3 года назад

      @@delaneysmrz5176 No worries, well in my tank I have chilli rasboras and albino corydoras. If you want corys you will need sand substrate and gravel/rock damages their fins and other parts. But honestly best bet is to Google hard water fish and look at what you think is best for your tank. (Also depends how big your tank is too obvs!)

    • @wodensblot

      A low PH means that the PH is below 7, making it acidic not alkaline like I'm assuming you mean

      Yup gravel is fine as long you feed foods they don't have to dig for. Frozen bloodworms for example vs granules.
