It's worth noting the word **CONCIDERING** here, I can't make my mind up and thats part of why I'm asking for feedback. This is a mix of my feelings towards what they're adding in Phase 4, aswell as seeing the community's response to Phase 4 and my videos on Phase 4, which is explained further in the video. - Are you still playing Season of Discovery? And if you have taken a break, are you coming back for Phase 4? - If you have quit Season of Discovery, what made you make that decision? Adding more context to my thought process & Why I'm concidering quitting. I've talked about & will talk more about the actual gameplay part in other videos (and this one), but aside from the actual game, the community has shifted a lot when it comes to Season on Discovery, atleast on my channel. - Previously, a majority of the comments (mostly ALL the comments) would be extremely positive & hyped for Season of Discovery. Now, even when I make a guide video, or a goldmaking video, like me showing my Phase 4 Investments, the most frequent & most popular (most liked) comments, are "Who even plays SoD anymore" "SoD is dead lmao" "Why you still playing SoD" "imagine playing SoD lmao" etc.. The community seems to have shifted a lot from loving SoD, to hating SoD and actively roasting people that still play SoD, or atleast thats the vision I'm getting based on what I'm seeing. Once again the most upvotes & frequent comments, even on regular goldmaking videos where I'm just talking about how to make gold in the game, are negative comments about either the state of SoD, or the players playing SoD, like the examples given above.
If you want to quit, quit. I am having a lot of fun. Blizzard can't please anyone, as a ret paladin I got crusader strike, my god I am more than happy. I imagined them doing way way less content and just making class changes. I would want them to stop adding more content as it's too much, but seems like the community wants more. I wanted classic with class changes. But I'm not complaining about everything else. Seems like the community is being spoiled children demanding all these extra things. @@SolheimGaming I personally quit because my guild disbanded aright at the start of p3 so we made a new guild with our raiders but as we went week to week not being able to clear the raid we kept losing more and more people and couldnt replace them so we all dropped SOD for cata classic
if you quit SOD will you move on to retail or back to cata? i know you said you left the cata raiding scene due to your guild but would you go back to cata if you go through with leaving SOD
Seen my guild go from 100+ people online to me pretty much being the last person left. We get a max 15 people to show up for the raid reset and we fill the rest with pugs. S3 started too early and has now gone on for far too long.
dont forget that the p3 content is also just bad, ST bosses aswell as loot is boring, incursions are terrible content but the rewards are so good you basically have to do them unless you just like to handicap yourself, reused stv event from previous phase.. sod got progressively worse with each phase imo
Does this mean the players on sod can't enjoy themselves? No it doesn't lol you can compare sod to other games like star wars online and there is way more players on sod. So yes numbers are different, but for the love of God let people enjoy what they want. If it's not for you, move on with life and stop ruining it for others who are enjoying the experience. I have literally 1 complaint about sod and they fixed it. Bots.. by making accounts non tradeable for 30 days. So great blizzard amazing job seriously. The rest of your opinions are just that.. opinions.. and mine is different than yours.
Hardcore is the way to go. It's fundamentally permanent prime WOW. All starting zones are constantly populated with players looking to group. The playerbase understands the importance of community and will actually go out of their way to assist newer or lower level players. They do this because it benefits them to help other players reach thier own level to help with more difficult content which is ultimately what a MMO is about "collaboration or a large scale". If you take a break you should consider promoting HC WOW its truly a never ending prime WOW experience.

I never stopped playing. Been free farming in the ooen world. Arcane crystals selling for 90g. Server pop is low but pugs still running every night and the people that stayed are all pretty chill. To be honest, i wish the locusts wouldnt come back.
Hot take but p3 has been my favorite. I love getting ahead of the batch for the next phase. There is so so so so much to do. I understand people don’t like it. Idk why
Recruitment in our (NZ based) and our sister guild (Aussie based) has picked up with new players coming to SOD for phase 4. We’re now organising leveling events such as incursions (Duskwood and Ashenvale), earlier raids, SM, offerings for gearing and rune collection.
If the argument is that Blizz doesn't have the resources/staff to create new content for Classic and they are only functioning on the leftover teams from Cata or Retail then the only rational response is I DON'T CARE. I am paying customer paying a monthly sub and I expect new content. It is not the customer's fault that they backed themselves to a wall with the gazillion different versions of WoW to the point that it becomes a management nightmare for resourcing.
As a paying sub, I want less content in sod. So I pay my sub too.. my opinion matters but I'm not complaining about the new content. It's allot rep grinds etc for all this new content. I just wanted classic with class fixes. You are spoiled. If you want new content that's retail. The classic community is being run over by retail players demanding new content in a classic version of the game. My god lol most of us palis would been OK with fresh classic with addition of taunt and crusader strike. But we are getting so much more and all I hear is complaining
Outrage generates clicks, views, and reactions. People are a lot more likely to complain and look for people to commiserate when they're upset versus when they're content. The people who believe they've been wronged or who hold negative views look to have those views reinforced and justified by creators like you, and respond negatively (i.e. by disliking your gold-making videos) to anything that contradicts their experience. TheComebackKids have been posting "Is it time to worry?!?!" videos since P2 and frankly I think shifts in attitudes like that from popular SoD creators just make the situation worse, I'm not saying creators can't voice concerns but it contributes more powerfully to a larger echo chamber of negativity when people see and hear their favorite creators say "SoD is dead, you might as well quit now." That said, I have been raid-logging for the last month or so and took a 2 week break from WoW altogether (Cata included) to find my guild on Lone Wolf US still running ST twice a week and even taking recent cracks at speed and parse running. I jumped into my guilds speedrun attempt yesterday and it was the most fun I've had running ST this whole phase. I plan on making a full return for p4, potentially even sooner as I want to make sure I have gold to fund crafting updated items and I may even do a little pre-questing this weekend. Life is all about balance, and if people need a break from SoD then they should take one. If I could make one request of those people though, and this goes for all things in life that you maybe once enjoyed but have moved on from, just let people enjoy what they enjoy. There's absolutely no need to come out here and click on a SoD goldmaking guide and say "Lil bro nobody is playing SoD." Just move on.
i knew sod was going to be trash as soon as i saw the amount of runes available at level 25. penance being a level 2 rune is just absolutely stupid and breaks the scaling of classic.
i leveled by questing this last month. from 1-50. ran a few dungeons. but not many. i think the reason i'm burned out is because i play all 3 versions of the game. and have done so every day since their launch. minus retail, which i started in OG cata
waiting for P4 and playing P3 atm .. Crusader Strike EU.. I prefer neutral videos over possitive or negative one in other words I like informative videos ;) do what is best for you (your channel).
I came back just under two weeks ago and I had a 31 paladin also on crusader strike. I was able to find tons for groups for everything from BFD to SM and then stuff like ZF or mara. I think the game will probably increase to around the numbers we had during phase 2 when phase 4 comes out. They are decreasing the xp to only 50% which I think is good and it seems like endgame will bring plenty of stuff to do.
My wife and I are still going to play Phase 4 (I think) but I'm not nearly excited as I used to be. It's good that blizzard is experimenting but there's just so much evidence in the past of what works and what doesn't. My point being Incursions just should've never happened period. It was the nail in the coffin. I love a challenge, I just play other games for that. A once chill phase 1 experience where anyone could play, super alt friendly, etc. has turns into a grindfest that gatekeeps a lot of the playerbase. I mean if you like playing an empty world game with your guildies then that's you, but I want everyone to have fun and not be pushed out by people who are just going to play the next big thing anyways. Idk maybe that's just me but I honestly don't think harder difficulty is what this game needs. Stuff doesn't need to be more difficult to be fun, just make it interesting and not so damn punishing if 1 player messes up.
I've been playing SoD since P1, here's my take: 1) No one cares about the PTR - people will start preparing for P4 once a release date is announced; only the super dedicated SoD fans care about what's on the PTR 2) Many classic WoW players have shifted over to Cata and MoP remix during the content lull of P3. Many of these players seek out content that shit talks SoD to justify their decision. When they start getting bored of Cata, this sentiment will flip. I think having a release date for P4 will help to build excitement for SoD again as well. 3) As a result of the above, the SoD servers are currently mostly dead. I don't think P4 will be like P1, but it will definitely bring a lot of players back. I know just within my guild of 40 people, many have been playing Cata or other games like Elden Ring but are still engaging on Discord with SoD updates and plan to return for P4 I really wouldn't use the current state of the servers as an indicator for how popular P4 will be.

I kinda feel lied too? Maybe lie is the wrong word but all the ramp up leading to sod was talking about “new never before seen” and it’s basically just wotlk abilities in classic vanilla. We haven’t seen anything new, like at all. Even the new phase 4 stuff is generating more hate than hype. "WE WANT NEW CONTENT NOW" Breezing past your adolescent comments, brother if you want to quit, just quit. No one is forcing you to stay, you can take a break, touch grass, play cata, MoP remix etc. Everyones complains about blizz following the same formula, not listening to feedback, rushing out half finished half tested products. They FINALLY are giving SoD the time to incubate that it has so desperately needed. Datamining has found new reps, locations, a new world boss, 4 raids, class balancing, new pve events, new pvp events, updates to existing events, updates to gear, updated legendaries, new legendaries... and thats just the stuff players have found! All of that in P4. Keep your lizard brain in check bro, it's just a game, they're not edging you, you're doing it to yourself.
Couldn’t agree more. They should have more devs on this project but at the same time it does feel like they will try to get phase 4 in the best place SOD has been so far. Even with all this shit they are adding, people will legit say “ it was only fun in phase 1” when there was NOTHING to do besides raid and do the same 3 dungeons.
SoD was fun for a bit but didn’t push the envelope for “classic+” as much as most of us were hoping, and the nightmare incursions sealed the deal. No interest in revisiting it at all
Retail sucks, Cata sucks... Era is okay but the classes are terribly balanced and many are simply non-viable. Also, the content is literally 20 years old and the only thing going on is GDKPs. SOD is the only WoW version worth playing. The classes are so much more well rounded and viable from era and each of the raids; BFD, Gnomeregan and Sunken Temple, have been exceptional. The professions improvements are also awesome. The only real issue with SOD was the slow roll out of the phases causing many players to simply run out of content. Also incursions in phase 3 were detrimental to the game forcing low level players into 1 zone full of griefers. No more questing in the open world or running dungeons to level. Just spam running incursions. Phase 4 ends that crap. Is the damage already done? Maybe... but in classic era does anything under level 60 even matter? If not, why would lvl 1-50 matter in SOD? I'd also like to point out that people like asmongold and Solheim have been asking for YEARS, for classic plus. We finally have it and many of these same people have abandoned it, or in Solheims case, contemplating abandoning it, before it has even gotten to the best and final phase. In phase 4 we'll have AV, rank 14, BRD emp runs, lower blackrock spire, upper blackrock spire, Diremail east, west, north, scholomance, stratholme, tier 0, tier 0.5 quests, tier 1, Molten Core, Onyxia, and epic BRM pvp battles. We will have so much content to do that it will feel overwhelming. I guess for me... I'm stuck with SOD cause there are simply no alternative games. All of the different wow versions have serious flaws that just cant be overcome. SOD though, with all its flaws, can still be improved and what I've seen from the devs regarding phase 4 i think they are taking steps in the right direction (IE end to incursions)
Yeah but with Phase 4 u literally get Retail-Gameplay with 20 years old content. Era is way more balanced then SOD P4. Schamans are raid bosses. Casters just spamming instants, Rogues and Palas are killing u in 1 stun. Classic Players ask for new Content and a little bit love for meme specs. We get retail-gameplay and same old content except 3 dungeon changes, 2 little pvp events and incursions.
@@Clazziiretail gameplay is literally 20 button rotations. My sod class has like a 4 button rotation. Phase 4 is definitely not retail. It’s more like wotlk in classic era

Mate, there's nothing to do in P3 right now, if you wanna see how popular P4 is gonna be just check the PTR server, it was booming hard on release, and that's PTR that like 10% max can be arsed to open.
The situation in the game is very depressing. Super low activity on Crusader Strike server also. We need to surface those issues and provide critics regularly hoping they’ll make some adjustments. Initial P1 hype is gone now and ppl are tired of waiting for the content to come. Still looking forward to P4 hoping it’ll reincarnate the game.
Yes I’m playing, including my brother and girlfriend. We love SOD. Our guild did a survey and we know who will be returning and who won’t. We’ll be losing 25% of our guild’s player base and will need to recruit to raid.
Phase 4 is the only phase that matters mate! Al the rest was nice to have and a PTR in some way. Strange that you can’t find a group for dungeons or elite quests. Back since last week and it is very much alive in the EU. Guilds are recruiting, a lot of alts are being levelled. Chin up bro! 💪 Phase 4 hype is building all we need is a release date.
Player impression always affects videos. When the view is negative the players want to see negative videos and vice versa. The same people that said Cata was trash are the same people saying "SoD is dead" and "Cata hype". The locusts always swarm to the new thing. Not trying to tell you how to do your job but i would say play what you enjoy amd cover what you enjoy.
I'm going to play phase 4. World pvp is the main thing I miss from 2004. SOD is the only place for it. Seems like most veterans dont like that aspect and transfered to PVE servers...
Here one still playing sod, mostly doing solo farms and one weekly raid with the boys. Have loved it so far, but morale have been dropping lately since pretty much everything I can think of I have already farmed 😅. Have been thinking of taking a short break before p4 drops but 100% back in when p4 drops or few days earlier 🤘
@SolheimGaming They spent all their time trying to create more spec (which you were very happy to see). Turns out that they spent all their time trying to balance those new specs and they didn't put anytime on new zones and raids. Idk what you guys expected (yes you content creators) but defining new classes/spec is a bottomless pit that creates more frustration than anything. They could still revert everything to era, buff the meme specs with SMALL changes over time and put their time on new zones and raids.... All they did so far is destroying the game.

The community is in a negative funk right now, SoD players feel like they were snubbed by the devs for Cata. And they're right, it's obvious now that all P3 work was halted because execs demanded a smooth launch of cata and cata raiding because it has a cash shop. Aggrend said that isn't the case, but it's painfully obvious that's the case. After all they only recently started changing item values and class balance changes in the last two weeks. Two weeks. ITS BEEN 4 FUCKING MONTHS. 4, 4 MONTHS. I still have hope that P4 will be good, I hope it is. But man, CATA should never have been under the classic dev team. Thats a hard fucking fail for Blizzard. Cata is essentially retail and it should have been the retail dev team to head it. If SoD fails completely it's not because "SoD is bad Mkay." It's because the Dev's fucking twiddled their thumbs with Cata. Classic dev team should have been given double the resources when SoD launched, the amount of hype and popularity SoD had at the start was massive, it had massive youtube and twitch support. Hundreds of thousands in new subs across 50 ish new servers. And they pissed it away because they wanted to do Cata. To get people into another fucking cash shop. Blizzards last chance to revive SoD is with P4, they better fucking pull a miracle out of their hat because if P4 doesn't breath any life into this then its done. Which sucks, because Blizzard will probably look at the data and be like. "I guess they don't want Classic+" Depressing really. I'll still play P4, but come on Blizzard.

I don't think I'll be playing SOD Phase 4. Currently I'm playing and having a great time playing Cata Classic. I went back to WoTLK (Cata pre-patch) when that was dropped and had a blast. I was having fun with SOD and got to max level in Phase 3 (played phase 1, 2 and 3) but got bored quick. With The War Within coming out soon, I'll probably spend my limited time playing some Cata and mostly The War Within till I get done doing everything I want to do in that. I don't raid, just enjoy leveling and making gold and exploring the story.
Seeing high 40's still insisting on doing nokill incursions still drives me nuts. People just can't adjust when Blizz changes something. NKL loops are an absolute waste.
If LFR was added in SOD players may actually get Loot. Gate Keepers and Sweety players will say Nah Go get Fd but we all Know it will die unless drastic measures are taken! I solo on Rogue and I get what I want from the Game find what you want from the Game.
My biggest success in WoW is predicting Phase 3 would be trash and NOT playing it as soon as I seen the recycling of STV pvp and Incursions with early gold exploit ruining economy at its player P3 peak. I'm only giving Phase 4 a chance because its lvl 60 cap in leu of fresh. We will see
You're going to have to wait and see like the rest of us on how P4 turns out. It the content turns out to be very good, everyone will come back, even the ones saying they are not coming back to the game. If enough streamers are playing P4, everyone will come back. Just wait and see.
I quit around mid phase 2 as the game totally lost its charm at that point imo, Ashenvale and BFD were both fun. Gnomer was a pain, eve though I had almost only successful runs, it just didn't feel fun, unlike BFD. STV pvp was a mess with zero atmosphere, unlike Ashenvale. Since then I'm been following SOD on twitch, but I can't see that phase 1 charm still, pvp is too unbalanced, also classes feel dumb. I hoped that they would raise the skill ceiling of the game with meaningful skill based abilities, like short cooldowns, counter abilities, but all I see is more damage everywhere, yaaay...
P4 will drop and everyone will start playing again because all the streamers will be playing... Its how the WoW cycle works. SoD will be fine and won't be DOA. Itll prolly hit the largest numbers
Plenty of problems. Some dont like that you know after phase 4 it is end soo all of your efford is gone, if you want to play alts it is pain in the ass to collect all the runes again soo you lose on doing content again , too many danm bots which make anything you do other than raiding maybe a big waste of time(like games are not that by itself), and ofc all meta stuff, no casual frendly, Need to play this spec, have gear better than it drops from that raid to even get inv, pharses 98% or forget it etc etc. Feels like people dont even have fun in the game . They treat it like a job and act like assholes if you dont also. We have all that in real life. No point in going into game to get same shit:D there is more reasons but ye , feel like those are most important. And with all that too many damn reps
So many videos (from many creators) and so much gloom for what is really just natural and expected. The phase was weak and lasted far more than it should. So people just stopped playing when they got what they needed. What is the point of raiding ST when you have all you need? What is the point of gearing your 8th alt (actually what is the point of having a ton of alts? How is that not boring?) when the items will be irrelevant in a few weeks? So people just stopped. They will come back when new stuff is added. I only play sod and I have not raided at all this month. I don't show up in the population charts. I just did rep grinds and now barely log at all, but I will be back Complaining about the servers being empty right now is like complaining that ERA servers are empty. Of course they are. Nothing left to do there. And contrary to Sod, nothing coming either. Does that make ERA a failure?
what i likedabout sod most of phase 1 alts with the best runes asp and twinking 10 man raids p2 all the runes had been found and the journy was boring with crap runes alts had there runes were nerfed for twinking riad was ok p3 incursions ruined the game p4? doubt it bring back 10 man content
cata is my most hated expansion and ofc i dont play it with this "classic" re-release again and dont watch content about it. but i tried dragonflight since p3 sod is kinda dead and have to say retail is actually way better than in bfa or shadowlands and the war within also looks good especially with the mythic+ changes. so i will try p4 sod and watch videos about it as long as i keep playing it but more interested in retail videos.
This is the problem summed up: P1: Cool, new, fresh, BFD was cool because it was new and we didnt know what to expect. Ashenvale was fun, not perfect, but fun. World was booming. P2: NO ONE wanted Gnomeregan and blizz realized it so they released it earlier. Gnomeregan was ok but the difficulty jump drove away a lot of players. STV event was the best thing on P2 possibly the best thing on SoD so far. P3: WHO asked for Sunken Temple? WHO likes Sunken Temple? Most players have done it once or twice and absolutely hate it and never want to come back. Blizzard changed it because it was widely disliked. No new PvP event, re hashed STV. Sunken Temple went from really difficult to piss easy, easiest raid so far. Incursions? we all know what went wrong there. Absolutely atrocious idea i dont even know how that was approved. Sunken Temple, P3 lenght and Incursions killed SoD. P4: ZZzzZzz...
Ofcourse it's how it works. Don't need a release date to be hyped. People been hyped for GTA6 for a while. People been hyped for Ashes of Creation for a while, even though thats years away. SoD P4 getting pushed to the PTR definitely generated hype. Doesn't need to be a release date to be hyped about something, although getting a release date definitely helps generate more hype.
@@SolheimGaming gta6 is actually just a meme now, hence why people say ''before gta6'' regarding tons of things. It was hype until it was pushed back years and years. it's funny you bring that up cause theres similarities in how not to create hype. Alot of streamers and content creators NEED phase 4 to have hype, because it gets them views. Wow has very little hype regardless of which version right now.
OK BRO , ill help you out. SoD is gonna end up like SoM, its a season server afterall all the fuckups dont help. Your negative videos perform better because community is so pissed and frustrared they will cheer for negative feedback. Pull ship its time to give cata and retail content.
p4 will be good i think better than cata. i think cata will be super boring after some more weeks retail will get a hype with the next addon but its a different world compared to cata or sod. i think if anyone still wants to play "classic" wow it has to be sod

@@SolheimGaming I personally quit because my guild disbanded aright at the start of p3 so we made a new guild with our raiders but as we went week to week not being able to clear the raid we kept losing more and more people and couldnt replace them so we all dropped SOD for cata classic
if you quit SOD will you move on to retail or back to cata? i know you said you left the cata raiding scene due to your guild but would you go back to cata if you go through with leaving SOD

Seen my guild go from 100+ people online to me pretty much being the last person left. We get a max 15 people to show up for the raid reset and we fill the rest with pugs. S3 started too early and has now gone on for far too long.
dont forget that the p3 content is also just bad, ST bosses aswell as loot is boring, incursions are terrible content but the rewards are so good you basically have to do them unless you just like to handicap yourself, reused stv event from previous phase.. sod got progressively worse with each phase imo
People have been in BIS for two months, the cata hype will fade in a few weeks and most people will return for p4.

I have literally 1 complaint about sod and they fixed it. Bots.. by making accounts non tradeable for 30 days. So great blizzard amazing job seriously. Hardcore is the way to go. It's fundamentally permanent prime WOW. All starting zones are constantly populated with players looking to group. The playerbase understands the importance of community and will actually go out of their way to assist newer or lower level players. They do this because it benefits them to help other players reach thier own level to help with more difficult content which is ultimately what a MMO is about "collaboration or a large scale". If you take a break you should consider promoting HC WOW its truly a never ending prime WOW experience.

I never stopped playing. Been free farming in the ooen world. Arcane crystals selling for 90g. Server pop is low but pugs still running every night and the people that stayed are all pretty chill. To be honest, i wish the locusts wouldnt come back.

Recruitment in our (NZ based) and our sister guild (Aussie based) has picked up with new players coming to SOD for phase 4. We’re now organising leveling events such as incursions (Duskwood and Ashenvale), earlier raids, SM, offerings for gearing and rune collection.

If the argument is that Blizz doesn't have the resources/staff to create new content for Classic and they are only functioning on the leftover teams from Cata or Retail then the only rational response is I DON'T CARE. I am paying customer paying a monthly sub and I expect new content. It is not the customer's fault that they backed themselves to a wall with the gazillion different versions of WoW to the point that it becomes a management nightmare for resourcing.
As a paying sub, I want less content in sod. So I pay my sub too.. my opinion matters but I'm not complaining about the new content. It's allot rep grinds etc for all this new content. I just wanted classic with class fixes. You are spoiled. If you want new content that's retail. The classic community is being run over by retail players demanding new content in a classic version of the game. Outrage generates clicks, views, and reactions. People are a lot more likely to complain and look for people to commiserate when they're upset versus when they're content. The people who believe they've been wronged or who hold negative views look to have those views reinforced and justified by creators like you, and respond negatively (i.e. by disliking your gold-making videos) to anything that contradicts their experience. TheComebackKids have been posting "Is it time to worry?!?!" videos since P2 and frankly I think shifts in attitudes like that from popular SoD creators just make the situation worse, I'm not saying creators can't voice concerns but it contributes more powerfully to a larger echo chamber of negativity when people see and hear their favorite creators say "SoD is dead, you might as well quit now."
That said, I have been raid-logging for the last month or so and took a 2 week break from WoW altogether (Cata included) to find my guild on Lone Wolf US still running ST twice a week and even taking recent cracks at speed and parse running. I jumped into my guilds speedrun attempt yesterday and it was the most fun I've had running ST this whole phase. I plan on making a full return for p4, potentially even sooner as I want to make sure I have gold to fund crafting updated items and I may even do a little pre-questing this weekend.
Life is all about balance, and if people need a break from SoD then they should take one. If I could make one request of those people though, and this goes for all things in life that you maybe once enjoyed but have moved on from, just let people enjoy what they enjoy. There's absolutely no need to come out here and click on a SoD goldmaking guide and say "Lil bro nobody is playing SoD." Just move on.

i knew sod was going to be trash as soon as i saw the amount of runes available at level 25. penance being a level 2 rune is just absolutely stupid and breaks the scaling of classic.

i think the reason i'm burned out is because i play all 3 versions of the game. and have done so every day since their launch. minus retail, which i started in OG cata

I came back just under two weeks ago and I had a 31 paladin also on crusader strike. I was able to find tons for groups for everything from BFD to SM and then stuff like ZF or mara. I think the game will probably increase to around the numbers we had during phase 2 when phase 4 comes out. They are decreasing the xp to only 50% which I think is good and it seems like endgame will bring plenty of stuff to do.
My wife and I are still going to play Phase 4 (I think) but I'm not nearly excited as I used to be.
It's good that blizzard is experimenting but there's just so much evidence in the past of what works and what doesn't.
My point being Incursions just should've never happened period. It was the nail in the coffin.
I love a challenge, I just play other games for that. A once chill phase 1 experience where anyone could play, super alt friendly, etc. has turns into a grindfest that gatekeeps a lot of the playerbase.
I mean if you like playing an empty world game with your guildies then that's you, but I want everyone to have fun and not be pushed out by people who are just going to play the next big thing anyways. Idk maybe that's just me but I honestly don't think harder difficulty is what this game needs. Stuff doesn't need to be more difficult to be fun, just make it interesting and not so damn punishing if 1 player messes up.

Fair! P1 was definitely the highlight for me, P2 was fine & overall good if you ask me, but every phase the hype has just gone down :(
I've been playing SoD since P1, here's my take:
1) No one cares about the PTR - people will start preparing for P4 once a release date is announced; only the super dedicated SoD fans care about what's on the PTR
2) Many classic WoW players have shifted over to Cata and MoP remix during the content lull of P3. Many of these players seek out content that shit talks SoD to justify their decision. When they start getting bored of Cata, this sentiment will flip. I think having a release date for P4 will help to build excitement for SoD again as well.
3) As a result of the above, the SoD servers are currently mostly dead. I don't think P4 will be like P1, but it will definitely bring a lot of players back. I know just within my guild of 40 people, many have been playing Cata or other games like Elden Ring but are still engaging on Discord with SoD updates and plan to return for P4
I really wouldn't use the current state of the servers as an indicator for how popular P4 will be.

Breezing past your adolescent comments, brother if you want to quit, just quit. No one is forcing you to stay, you can take a break, touch grass, play cata, MoP remix etc. Everyones complains about blizz following the same formula, not listening to feedback, rushing out half finished half tested products. They FINALLY are giving SoD the time to incubate that it has so desperately needed. Datamining has found new reps, locations, a new world boss, 4 raids, class balancing, new pve events, new pvp events, updates to existing events, updates to gear, updated legendaries, new legendaries... and thats just the stuff players have found! All of that in P4. Keep your lizard brain in check bro, it's just a game, they're not edging you, you're doing it to yourself.
Couldn’t agree more. They should have more devs on this project but at the same time it does feel like they will try to get phase 4 in the best place SOD has been so far. Even with all this shit they are adding, people will legit say “ it was only fun in phase 1” when there was NOTHING to do besides raid and do the same 3 dungeons.
SoD was fun for a bit but didn’t push the envelope for “classic+” as much as most of us were hoping, and the nightmare incursions sealed the deal. No interest in revisiting it at all
Retail sucks, Cata sucks... Era is okay but the classes are terribly balanced and many are simply non-viable. Also, the content is literally 20 years old and the only thing going on is GDKPs. SOD is the only WoW version worth playing. The classes are so much more well rounded and viable from era and each of the raids; BFD, Gnomeregan and Sunken Temple, have been exceptional. The professions improvements are also awesome. The only real issue with SOD was the slow roll out of the phases causing many players to simply run out of content. Also incursions in phase 3 were detrimental to the game forcing low level players into 1 zone full of griefers. No more questing in the open world or running dungeons to level. Just spam running incursions. Phase 4 ends that crap. Is the damage already done? Maybe... but in classic era does anything under level 60 even matter? If not, why would lvl 1-50 matter in SOD?
I'd also like to point out that people like asmongold and Solheim have been asking for YEARS, for classic plus. We finally have it and many of these same people have abandoned it, or in Solheims case, contemplating abandoning it, before it has even gotten to the best and final phase. In phase 4 we'll have AV, rank 14, BRD emp runs, lower blackrock spire, upper blackrock spire, Diremail east, west, north, scholomance, stratholme, tier 0, tier 0.5 quests, tier 1, Molten Core, Onyxia, and epic BRM pvp battles. We will have so much content to do that it will feel overwhelming.
I guess for me... I'm stuck with SOD cause there are simply no alternative games. All of the different wow versions have serious flaws that just cant be overcome. SOD though, with all its flaws, can still be improved and what I've seen from the devs regarding phase 4 i think they are taking steps in the right direction (IE end to incursions)

Yeah but with Phase 4 u literally get Retail-Gameplay with 20 years old content. Era is way more balanced then SOD P4. Schamans are raid bosses. Casters just spamming instants, Rogues and Palas are killing u in 1 stun.
Classic Players ask for new Content and a little bit love for meme specs. We get retail-gameplay and same old content except 3 dungeon changes, 2 little pvp events and incursions.

Mate, there's nothing to do in P3 right now, if you wanna see how popular P4 is gonna be just check the PTR server, it was booming hard on release, and that's PTR that like 10% max can be arsed to open.
Oceanic PVE server died on horde side. P2 burnt me out. Then incursions have turned me off it. Enjoying retail currently.
The situation in the game is very depressing. Super low activity on Crusader Strike server also. We need to surface those issues and provide critics regularly hoping they’ll make some adjustments. Initial P1 hype is gone now and ppl are tired of waiting for the content to come. Still looking forward to P4 hoping it’ll reincarnate the game.

Phase 4 is the only phase that matters mate! Al the rest was nice to have and a PTR in some way. Strange that you can’t find a group for dungeons or elite quests. Back since last week and it is very much alive in the EU. Guilds are recruiting, a lot of alts are being levelled. Chin up bro! 💪 Phase 4 hype is building all we need is a release date.
Player impression always affects videos. When the view is negative the players want to see negative videos and vice versa. The same people that said Cata was trash are the same people saying "SoD is dead" and "Cata hype". The locusts always swarm to the new thing. Not trying to tell you how to do your job but i would say play what you enjoy amd cover what you enjoy.
Quit to gear up for Cata. My priority right now Cata (1/day) > Retail (1/month) > SoD (1/phase)
I'm going to play phase 4. World pvp is the main thing I miss from 2004. SOD is the only place for it. Seems like most veterans dont like that aspect and transfered to PVE servers...
Here one still playing sod, mostly doing solo farms and one weekly raid with the boys. Have loved it so far, but morale have been dropping lately since pretty much everything I can think of I have already farmed 😅. Have been thinking of taking a short break before p4 drops but 100% back in when p4 drops or few days earlier 🤘
@SolheimGaming They spent all their time trying to create more spec (which you were very happy to see). Turns out that they spent all their time trying to balance those new specs and they didn't put anytime on new zones and raids. Idk what you guys expected (yes you content creators) but defining new classes/spec is a bottomless pit that creates more frustration than anything.
They could still revert everything to era, buff the meme specs with SMALL changes over time and put their time on new zones and raids.... All they did so far is destroying the game.

The community is in a negative funk right now, SoD players feel like they were snubbed by the devs for Cata. And they're right, it's obvious now that all P3 work was halted because execs demanded a smooth launch of cata and cata raiding because it has a cash shop. Aggrend said that isn't the case, but it's painfully obvious that's the case. After all they only recently started changing item values and class balance changes in the last two weeks.

Classic dev team should have been given double the resources when SoD launched, the amount of hype and popularity SoD had at the start was massive, it had massive youtube and twitch support. Hundreds of thousands in new subs across 50 ish new servers.

I don't think I'll be playing SOD Phase 4. Currently I'm playing and having a great time playing Cata Classic. I went back to WoTLK (Cata pre-patch) when that was dropped and had a blast. I was having fun with SOD and got to max level in Phase 3 (played phase 1, 2 and 3) but got bored quick. With The War Within coming out soon, I'll probably spend my limited time playing some Cata and mostly The War Within till I get done doing everything I want to do in that. I don't raid, just enjoy leveling and making gold and exploring the story.

My biggest success in WoW is predicting Phase 3 would be trash and NOT playing it as soon as I seen the recycling of STV pvp and Incursions with early gold exploit ruining economy at its player P3 peak. I'm only giving Phase 4 a chance because its lvl 60 cap in leu of fresh. We will see
You're going to have to wait and see like the rest of us on how P4 turns out. It the content turns out to be very good, everyone will come back, even the ones saying they are not coming back to the game. If enough streamers are playing P4, everyone will come back. Just wait and see.

I quit around mid phase 2 as the game totally lost its charm at that point imo, Ashenvale and BFD were both fun. Gnomer was a pain, eve though I had almost only successful runs, it just didn't feel fun, unlike BFD. STV pvp was a mess with zero atmosphere, unlike Ashenvale. Since then I'm been following SOD on twitch, but I can't see that phase 1 charm still, pvp is too unbalanced, also classes feel dumb. I hoped that they would raise the skill ceiling of the game with meaningful skill based abilities, like short cooldowns, counter abilities, but all I see is more damage everywhere, yaaay...

Plenty of problems. Some dont like that you know after phase 4 it is end soo all of your efford is gone, if you want to play alts it is pain in the ass to collect all the runes again soo you lose on doing content again , too many danm bots which make anything you do other than raiding maybe a big waste of time(like games are not that by itself), and ofc all meta stuff, no casual frendly, Need to play this spec, have gear better than it drops from that raid to even get inv, pharses 98% or forget it etc etc. Feels like people dont even have fun in the game . They treat it like a job and act like assholes if you dont also. We have all that in real life. No point in going into game to get same shit:D there is more reasons but ye , feel like those are most important. And with all that too many damn reps

The phase was weak and lasted far more than it should. So people just stopped playing when they got what they needed.
What is the point of raiding ST when you have all you need? What is the point of gearing your 8th alt (actually what is the point of having a ton of alts? How is that not boring?) when the items will be irrelevant in a few weeks?

Complaining about the servers being empty right now is like complaining that ERA servers are empty. Of course they are. Nothing left to do there. And contrary to Sod, nothing coming either. Does that make ERA a failure?

cata is my most hated expansion and ofc i dont play it with this "classic" re-release again and dont watch content about it. but i tried dragonflight since p3 sod is kinda dead and have to say retail is actually way better than in bfa or shadowlands and the war within also looks good especially with the mythic+ changes. so i will try p4 sod and watch videos about it as long as i keep playing it but more interested in retail videos.

This is the problem summed up:
P1: Cool, new, fresh, BFD was cool because it was new and we didnt know what to expect. Ashenvale was fun, not perfect, but fun. World was booming.
P2: NO ONE wanted Gnomeregan and blizz realized it so they released it earlier. Gnomeregan was ok but the difficulty jump drove away a lot of players. STV event was the best thing on P2 possibly the best thing on SoD so far.
P3: WHO asked for Sunken Temple? WHO likes Sunken Temple? Most players have done it once or twice and absolutely hate it and never want to come back. Blizzard changed it because it was widely disliked. No new PvP event, re hashed STV. Sunken Temple went from really difficult to piss easy, easiest raid so far. Incursions? we all know what went wrong there. Absolutely atrocious idea i dont even know how that was approved. Sunken Temple, P3 lenght and Incursions killed SoD.
