  • 4 Fake Car "Facts" I'm Tired of Hearing...Carbon Fiber is repairable. Do not replace Cracked or yellow Carbon Fiber! It can be fixed for much cheaper! Ceramic Coating also doesn't just fall off from Rain, it's not as simple as Car Wax or Detail Spray, it can last for YEARS if applied correctly! There are lots of Fake Performance Mods on eBay, but there are also several REAL Performance Mods that are mistakenly called Fake since people don't consider their gains massive enough to be useful, despite the fact that those gains can be cumulative and become more noticeable over time or in combination with other Car Mods!

    I’m going to pitch some more in.
    “Cars were just more reliable in the 1960s and 1970s.”
    Car reliability peaked with the introduction of electronic fuel injection, electronic ignition, electronic engine control, better castings for engine blocks and higher quality fuel. Most of this started happening in the 1990s and peaked around 2010. A brand new Mercedes S-Class, a very unreliable car, will last twice as long as a 60s Dodge Dart.
    “I don’t like hybrids. They’re too quiet!”
    List of hybrids that aren’t:
    Ferrari LaFerrari
    McLaren P1
    Porsche 918 Spyder
    The entire WEC LMH field
    The entire IMSA GTP field
    Aston Martin Valkyrie
    Red Bull RB17
    Many modern supercars
    “Your car does 0-60 in 5 seconds? That’s slow.”
    There are literal race cars slower than that. The idea that a 5 second 0-60 and a 13 second quarter mile is slow is a stupid one.

      Tbf the majority of builds people do for fwd cars don't need them because realistically you want the weight or fake weight in the way of downforce above the drive wheels so that they can corner better, it's the same idea of left foot braking, put weight onto the front wheels. So really having a huge ass wing in the rear could very well make the cornering of a fwd worse.

    There is a small element of truth to "you're not gonna feel the mods". Modern vehicles run by computers need to be tuned to fully take advantage of mods as the hardware values have been changed (it's now able to take in more air and move more out of the exhaust etc). It's not just a case of chuck it on and go, because the computer is programmed to put out a specific power figure. Its not like the old days where you can just spend a few minutes fiddling with the carburettor to make up the airflow difference.

    • @EyebrowsMahoney
      @EyebrowsMahoney 6 месяцев назад +10

      It's this AND many people aren't modding engines that respond well to modification. Throwing a ported throttle body on an N/A vehicle that already can't flow more air into the combustion chamber because you're running a stock cam, stock head, and stock manifolds will absolutely see negligible gains.
      I think the video author is right that a lot of the folks talking about this are right when it's to a vehicle that doesn't have a motor operating at its near limits for its equipment already. But what he's missing is the sad fact is that putting a ported throttle body on your base model USDM crapbox will do pretty much nothing without supporting modifications or going forced induction. No, a 120MM throttle body absolutely will not make a 99 Ford Taurus any faster. That's just a hard fact. If you spend a couple grand on the engine on the other hand... you really could've spent it on a better platform that will respond to modifications better.

    • @X3R0NZ
      @X3R0NZ 6 месяцев назад +7

      @EyebrowsMahoney too right. Another aspect is putting heads with huge ports on, or huge intakes. It might increase air volume, but if you go too big then the air velocity is affected too. It's a matter of finding that sweet spot

      I’ve always understood it as horsepower per dollar. People waste tons of money on multiple tiny horsepower gains because they’re buying it piecemeal as they can afford it, rather than saving their money to buy one expensive but huge horsepower gain that can definitely be felt.

      @@LuckyCharms777 Yeah, it sucks for some of us who don't have super great money coming in, even if some do it gets spent on repairs. For example I got a somewhat out of the way car, trying to find a supercharger, as the only real company making parts for cobalts now is zzp and they have no superchargers just the kits. So it'd be easily 1k for the kit and then I'd have to source a supercharger, and that's before upgrading the cams, replacing the harness, and then getting it tuned for it all, all while it's also my only car and daily to work everyday. At the end of the day it'd be 5-6 thousand, which while 100 percent worth it in a car already making very good torque for a 4 cyl, it just isn't worth the time and money half the time, so instead I'm getting the small things and just building up to it.

      FWD/RWD/AWD all need a rear wing for the exact same reason, keep oversteer in check during cornering(by providing more grip to the rear).
      RWD just additionally gets more grip for acceleration while FWD does not.

    • @SamaraxMorgan26
      @SamaraxMorgan26 6 месяцев назад +10

    • @meusana3681
      @meusana3681 6 месяцев назад +2

      uhmmm. no. wings aren't isolated aero elements, that's your first mistake. Simple putting a wing on any car and not doing anything else is a stupid idea, basically means the car now has dynamic weight transfer as you traverse its speed range. Not to mention the natural aero of the car might not even necessitate a wing to begin with. Any aerodynamicist will tell you low pressure is waay more effective and efficient at creating actual downforce.
      Just putting a wing on a fwd is asking for high speed understeer, and completely removes any high speed lift off oversteer.
      They have their place, but not as stand alone add-ons. A rear wing redirects the boundary layer at the trailing end of the car, that layer of air that usually wants to flow around and suck the car back, you want to eject it, while bringing the low pressure zone as low to the ground as possible . Sometimes you can induce this without introducing a second areo element. And sometimes, a wing will actually raise the low pressure zone, creating actual instability.

    Ceramic is a non-trademarkable term. Which is why there are so many ceramics out there. That's why I use GLARE instead base level treatment is good for 5 years but it lasted 6 on my father in laws CUV despite not being garaged. Real ceramics are good for about 3years and cost the same or more than GLARE.

    • @UpperDarbyDetailing
      @UpperDarbyDetailing 6 месяцев назад

      Actually, real ceramic coatings can last up to 7 years depending upon how it’s maintained. These generally have to bake under UV lights for proper application.

    • @christophersaint6926
      @christophersaint6926 6 месяцев назад +1

      @UpperDarbyDetailing and you know 95% of people do not follow proper care. Normal applications cared for under normal circumstances 3 years. GLARE completely ignored 5 years for the basic 7 for the Advanced. With proper care, it can be much much longer for both. You can't go by the best case scenarios if you're being realistic. Besides GLARE doesn't have to be UV cured and can be applied at any temperature and can be applied to exhaust as it is rated to over 600 degrees Fahrenheit which is why I apply it to every custom paint job my company does. I even offer it the service just as a service. I dumped ceramic a long time ago because it doesn't have the longevity nor ease/convenience of application to get the longevity. I could not stand watching my customers throw away money, knowing they won't follow instructions past the first wash. Now they don't have to. "Eh, just wash it with dawn, nothing else." I offer a touch-up service if they get Knicks or small scratches for a nominal fee. Ceramic requires paint correction to be at its best the GLARE system is paint corrective through the process. It makes life easier for me and my guys. It makes it virtually idiot proof for my customers, and they lime that.

      You can't oversteer FWD with power, just hard cornering and or braking/handbrake so its "just" sliding, there is still a lot of skill behind it, but its not drifting.

    I feel like you missed the main point about why normies think FWD cars don't need wings. They all say it just adds traction over the nearest set of wheels. So, magically, putting a wing on a RWD car means it won't spin the tires as much so you can accelerate harder, and FWD cars don't require any traction on the back tires. Is this dumb? Yes, very. I've given up trying to explain why you would want a big rear wing on a FWD car to these people. Anyone with even a very basic understanding of traction dynamics on a curvy road course knows better. These are usually the same kind of people who think bigger HP number is the only measure of how fast a car is.

  • @ethanpeschman4458
    @ethanpeschman4458 6 месяцев назад +1

    FWD actually has a disadvantage in drag racing. Upon acceleration the center of mass moves backwards due to inerita putting more weight on the rear wheels increasing traction. Where-as on a front wheel drive car the weight is taken off the drive wheels. This is why FWD cars have difficulties with wheel spin on launch.

    Carbon fibre on structural components is repairable true but manufactorers won't because the structure is compromised. Gordon Murray won't use carbon fibre wheels and isntead uses alloy on the T.50 because of this, since if the wheel is kerbed or goes through a pothole, theres no telling how much structural damage was done and when the wheel will fail.
    Carbon fibre on wings and body panels however is a completely different story since aestethic/aerodynamic and not structural.

    I love the people that talk about fwd cars not being "able" to do something and when they're told they're wrong they just go nuh uh. "Fwd cant drift" well the rear has swung out and there's plenty of oversteer going on. That looks a lot like a drift. "That's just a slide" isn't a drift technically just a well controlled slide? "No because it's all about the power when drifting" extra power definitely helps to kick the rear end out but that just shows how much of a skill issue you have. Starting a drift is more about car control than it is any big power number. A majority of drifting is how you brake to induce the oversteer and that's quite the opposite of having power to just cause the rear end to kick out. Plus the whole thing about power is pretty much invalidated by a majority of the sub 200hp cars people would be drifting in the 80s and 90s. Hell the toyobru is an excellent car to learn how to drift on because it teaches you that it's not actually the power that matters but by how you control the car. If that rear end kicks out, the driver could control it, and it looked cool, that's a drift in almost anyones books. Doesn't matter what car did it.

    Big bore works for the same reason de-stroking some engines also can boost HP, but for opposite ends of design. It's about reciprocating mass vs jerk. A bigger bore at the same rpm can make more crank torque, great for an engine already breathing efficiently at higher rpm. De-stroking an engine can help an otherwise "overrevving" rotating assembly shift its balance towards higher rpm cuz the pistons aren't accelerating as quickly now.

    A cam can increase hp upwards of 100hp on some applications. That said there’s no such thing as a torque cam, hp cam, turbo cam, nitrous cam, stage 1,2,3,4,5 whatever cam. They’re all just cams with different specifications but they all will work in any application. Get the correct spec camshaft for your application and use. Furthermore a cam is wasted without the ability to move the air in and out so full length headers should be done at a minimum and proper heads would give maximum benefit with the cam.

    Carbon fiber is repairable. In cycling carbon is used since 80's and really popular since 00's, so we have now a lot of ways to repair carbon fiber frames or other parts. The only issue that I see with repairs on car parts is fact that most of them are covered by clear paint and the final layer is made of 1k/3k carbon fiber, so sometime it's almost impossible to bring the part to the same visual point after the repair. most bike frames are made form 300-500 carbon pieces and even if it's in theory clear paint, it's very often paint black in some parts of the frame to hide where pieces are connected. So in my honest opinion, a lot of carbon fiber car parts, because how they look, they are impossible to fix,. But very often repaired bike part is very ofter more durable after repair, cause repair is made by adding few layers od carbon fiber ;)

A stock cam is generally for lower rpms and your performance cams will gain in the mid rpm to upper rpm band and turbo cams will generally have power in the upper bands. But it does not add any power just moves the available power in the rpm bands.

    to be fair on the Exhaust upgrade point its both a yes and a no, if you only "upgrade" the exhaust pipes without making any performance enhancing upgrades to the engine itself is a waste as all you will create is more noise and less back-preassure which can harm performance on some engines, where as if your adding forced induction kits, upgrading to smoother flow headders or tuning you may get performance benefits to replacing a stock system
    TL;DR Exhaust mods are a waste of time unless you are making more power to begin with

    Since RWD and AWD are way more popular in JDM fest, car shows and for old school people than the FWD it made a certain base guideline for too many people to think that AWD and RWD are the only type of car tunable. Therefore when one of those people see a FWD with a wing or tuned at all, 2 sentences come often 1- "Look at that ricer" 2-"Wouldnt have let that car here". Yeah there is some people that tuned badly their car or even overestimated it, I've seen GTI with spoiler way too big to be useful as I've seen one gaping a m340i, one time a Accord gaping a hellcat and another where it could not accelerate faster than grandma on a wheelchair. People tends to brand FWD to the ricer-wannabe category, there is bad tuner in every category of car. The only reason why there is much more ricer toward FWD is because it is less expensive for the bigger part.

    Ceramic coating is the best thing it ever existed in the detail department, I've washed my van with ceramic coating shampoo from Turtle Wax and I can assure you the car will remain clean for longer, when previously I washed my van with wax shampoo I would wash it every month and a week after washing I could already notice it wasn't clean as I would like to, while the ceramic coating I would wash it every 3 months and 1 month after washing it it was still very clean like you could look and say that it was washed yesterday... Sure it's a cheap shampoo that has ceramic coating properties that won't last as long as the real deal and it costs twice as much as regular shampoo, but it lasts 3 times longer and your car will be clean for way longer, you are saving water money and effort... "FWD cars with wings is bad" that's one way to tell me you are not a driver, sure in US I can see why that is a statement since everything is mostly flat and people only race in a straight line, but if you go to racetracks and you want more out of your car if you can why not? It's not just for downforce purposes it's also how the air leaves the vehicle that sloshes the back end of the car left right back and forward, I mean depends there is spoilers and wings you can have both and each of them, spoiler is to diffuse how the air leaves the car, wings is what gives downforce...

    Hey there I have an important question: you said that older people tend to believe in wax instead of ceramic coating. So does this mean that you should not add a ceramic coat over a wax coat?

    Noob here: how does downforce help launching when the downforce only becomes considerably high when the car has already reached 100mph + (is done launching) or is this about cars with 1200hp+ that are fighting for traction half way down the drag strip?

    about the 06:30 claim that you can't feel. That problem is very similar to Audio. If you've never truely done double blind testing between two audio interfaces or quality settings or whatever, it is really hard to understand how easily your brain is fooled, especially if you are going in wanting to feel a difference. for cars this is not really easy because you rarely just have a second control group car setting in your garage purely for scientific purposes. just because you can measure something, doesn't mean you can feel it. We're not experienced racing drivers and the only time those mods are of significance is at a traffic light drag race. It's generally good advice to watch out what you invest your money in. Cars are depreciating assets and modding will make them lose that value even faster. This is really one of those areas where you're more likely to feel a difference in engine tuning or throttle response, than of an air intake or other fancy expensive mods. Still, it's your money and you can spend it however you like, but don't overestimate the value of dyno runs and drag races.

    How are they gonna sell you more car wax if they give you a real ceramic coating that won't need to be reapplied for years
