- A new week has dawned, and what better way to kick it off than with a trip to the Keystone State for a flyover of the GE/Wabtec plant in Erie, PA! In this video, we see a plethora of old and new GE road power, including gutted shells, Frankenstein locomotives, and sadly, three former Western New York & Pennsylvania de-rated AC6000s! On top of that, we also watch from above as an East Erie Commercial Railroad switching crew moves a locomotive chassis with a GE SL-85 centercab and handing it off to a Wabtec crew with an EMD SW1 before shoving it into the motor unit exchange building!

This is the perfect industry to model for those who have more engines than common sense. 😀
And switches!
🤣🤣🤣
I saw a UK class 70 Freightliner locomotive, Do we have a rail tunnel under the Atlantic?
Thank you for making and sharing your videos, much appreciated this side of the pond!🙃😉
Thanks for watching!
as far as the tunnel, i have no idea. but as far as the foreign locomotive that class 70 has been in the states for a while as far I I can tell
What an industry! Your drone coverage really gives us a comprehensive of that facility. Thanks once more.
Great video..one thing I got out of this..by subscribing and watching more of your videos..Thanks..
Totally enjoyed watching the GE-Swither/Tonner #21 moving the frames around!!! Great footage! I subscribed to your channel!
I agree...either rebuild/overhaul, or recycle. I served on three old nuke subs, and they all operated 30+ years. Once out of fuel at end of life, they were recycled.
Maybe the locomotive design is not matched to the engine lifecycle because there seems to be a ton worn out locos in "storage."
I guess recycling also cost $, and is lowest priority for the class 1s.
Aw man it hurts me to see all these classic golden age era of the 90s and late 90s and 2000 locomotives to be scrapped or replaced or rebuild
Incredible footage, I enjoyed looking at this! I always wondered how Erie looks from above. Makes me regret not videoing my trip to Paducah and Mayfield.
Thanks man, I appreciate it! Thia is one location I'm glad I have a drone for, I just wish the drive wasn't so boring lol. Hopefully one day you can return there and film it. 🙂
So.. Some of the former CSX AC6000CWs (my favorite Diesel of CSX) were at Wabtec, huh? Interesting.. if one AC6000CW was preserved in Lake Shore Museum, then hopefully one of them or two might have a chance to be preserved and also hopefully one will get repainted into CSX YN2 livery (with Yellow CSX lettering) before the preservation!
Keep dreaming cause no
@@tylerrose5232 never say never, already got two saved, one as a rolling bar.
Amazing RR complex, your videos take us to interesting venues, many thanks
Very neat video here! Love the Drone Tour of the Plant very neat to see the original GE locomotive plant. Very neat finds here too like that one CSX/WNYP Patched AC6000CW, several Ex-UP C44-9Ws, Some Ex-BNSF H2 C44-9Ws, and several YN2 AC4400CWs for CSX. That one Ex-LTEX nee NS SD40-2 which appears to have been converted to an SD23-T4 "Genset" was a really neat find. Also really like some of those Prototype units like GECX 809 the demo B40-8W, along with some Demo GEVC units and GECX 3000 basically a Battery GEVO. Really neat video here, have a great day!
Ironic to see a EMD sw1 and mp36’s at a GE facility
A SW-1? Wow!
Yessir, and only the second one I've seen in operation!
Excellent video my friends awesome 😊
Great catch Matty!
Terrific video, thanks for posting.
great work as usual, matty !!! btw, at 13:51 there is an overhead view of some type of service facility with what looks like a new blue and white eco unit partially under it awaiting some type of work... any chance you know what this facility actually does ??? i need to scratch build some sort of service facility/platform just outside of my diesel service facility # 1, so any help would be greatly appreciated, for sure !!! blessings and thanks to you, matty, for all your generous work !!!
Wow! Excellent video!
Thank you!
Amazing! Beatiuful video, greetings 🚂👍🔔
I see former Amtrak P40DC 805 at 13:56
Doesn't look like it's being worked on right now, but hopefully they do something with it eventually. Even stuffed and mounted at a museum would be better than rusting away, especially since we've just seen that there's at least some demand for the LTEX P40s.
I see the former FL Class 70 is still alive and well. They may want it back soon.
I can see Colas being more interested than FL, that’s if they could as 012 is an insurance write off, and I’m surprised Colas haven’t yet put an additional order in for more 70’s
@@HJDore I was told this afternoon, that it was made runable, but would need a lot more work to get to pass for main line running. Probably not worth the effort.
@@andyknott8148 oh she's definitely in running condition as she's frequently used by GE to drag new and refurbished locos round the test track.
Issue is, as I say, because they claimed it on insurance as a write-off they can't sell it.
Great catch!
@@tfs4499 Thanks!
WNYP 6003 that starred in a video of yours.
Four to be exact, but who's counting lol 😎
What locomotive is that chassis in the opening shots? Amazing footage!
Nice Video and a good catch! Just out of curiosity here.. is there a Noise Reduction Filter on the drone? All I hear is HIGHWAY TRAFFIC .
@@tomstarr1779 Thanks! There actually isn't even a microphone on the drone. The sounds you are hearing were recorded from my handheld camera while being parked near a road. It's far from ideal, I know, but it's the best I could do for sound.
@@mattygunn693 Not a problem , I do understand. I am a Rail Fan and a Model Railroader as well . However I carry a copy of the article FANTRIP - "We, the railfans, reserve the right to bear cameras" from TRAINS Magazine with me if I am questioned.
Very interesting video. Any idea if those stripped frames are going to be used for remanufactering an upgraded unit?
Thank you! Yep, I do believe that's what those chassis are being used for.
Are both MP36's getting fixed soon?
Why are the WNYP C46CW at Erie plant?
WNYP's getting rid of their GE fleet. Due to recent changes in traffic, they no longer need them.
That was excellent! It's damn near impossible to get up close, outside the fence, believe me, I've tryed!
@@jims6323 Thank you! I take it security said something to you?
