It’s not very realistic that Ojibwa (or any other North American tribal group, for that matter) would be so willing to openly discuss such things.
For example, on the topic of Sasquatch (which some Ojibwa call Sabe), superstitions of secrecy runs very deep among elders and “spiritual counselors”,, and the tribal councils don’t see outsiders as worthy of that vital info. Oftentimes they’ll deprive other members of their own tribe of credible oral traditions which could have prevented traumatic events, if only the individual(s) had been told which places to avoid and why.
Let’s hope that, as time passes, our tribal councils everywhere will shed themselves of such harmful superstitions and their racial “firewalls”, and that they will start to openly share with everyone critical oral tradition information which could be lifesaving to First Nations and outsiders alike.
You can tell the writer is white since he was afraid of "skinwalkers" which are primarily Navajo and he didn't even mention being afraid of the famous thing actually from the area: Wendigos.

@SenraaSpooky your partially right, the writer is German. However Moguai isn't meant as a skin walker reference. This story is actually part of a short series that currently lives on my wife's laptop.

The word mogwai is the transliteration of the Cantonese word 魔鬼 (Jyutping: mo1 gwai2; Standard Mandarin: 魔鬼; pinyin: móguǐ) meaning 'monster', 'evil spirit', 'devil' or 'demon'.
Seems like the author might not have researched this one. Or maybe he did, But I cannot find anymore info on the name.
Perhaps the author was thinking of the Mikmaq Sasquatch-like creature named Gugwe (pronounced gug-way), which translates to “face eater” or “head eater”?
Hopefully it's just "He Who Eats", not "He Who Eats After Midnight"

Hey all! My wife wrote this story nearly 8 years ago, and I'm so proud to see it's still getting a little love. Thanks for narrating! ❤ slight correction in your pronunciation, the name is actually pronounced like 'Mōguai', with the long o. Its a nod at the chinese word for monster.
Also, for those concerned about the the attributing of a "skinwalker" to the Ojibwe people, or their area of the world, it's not meant to be about a skinwalker, or any actual Ojibwe cryptid, just one from that area that's old enough for them to be among the first to be aware of it.
Some context is missing from this story as it's the first in an incomplete series, and I've spent the last 7 years trying to convince my German wife to expand on it. Time will only tell.

Oof. Ojibwe Minnesota native here. It's not pronounced o-jeeb-way it's o-jib-way. Jeed is another word for a woman's... *ahem* ..."kitty" 😹 ...so it's really funny hearing you pronounce it incorrectly, ngl 😂 also we have wendigos, not skinwalkers. Skinwalkers are Navajo. Tell me the author isn't native without telling me the author isn't native xD

The mispronunciation of Ojibwa and Mugwa ruins this story.
I’m sure it was an innocent mistake.
Ojibwe and Moguai, before you TRY to correct me maybe you should correct yourself first. I looked up the pronunciation before I narrated the story and according to the internet sources my pronunciations are spot on.

I was trying to make a light hearted comment to make you feel better about it when I commented previously, but I want to let you know the flaws in the story are from the perspective of the writer, not you. Unless you wrote it 😅 but, we just correcting you on your pronunciation of the name of my tribe. The mispronounceation didn't "ruin" this story like this commenter said it did. It was just a little silly to hear and made me chuckle. You probably didn't grow up around my people, hearing the word every day, so no one can fault you for getting it wrong 💖
