She doesn’t use the baton anymore because she “accidentally” always threw it at the first chair viola.

Mine doesn't use one and she used to use a pencil but she accidentally threw it was my desk partner, the pencil never appeared again, she just uses her hand eccentrically

EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
And it's only ever the perfomance, never rehearsal
Lol learn counting. You wouldn't need being cued in that way. Also, listen to the others during your pause to recognize the bars before you come in
And that's why I got into the terrible habit of listening to other sections instead of counting

In fact, at first i saw alot more Brett lovers, but turns out there's the same amount of stanners for both of them the more i look into it! I also dislike the thought of liking someone more than the other, since they both have very different character traits (good character traits ofcourse)

Totally agree ! I personally can't choose, I love both of them for different reasons. They're a duo, you can't have one without the other. It's like asking whether you prefer your left shoe or your right shoe. You just need both !
That being said, I kinda have "phases". When they are together, I realized that I tend to watch or listen to one of them more. It used to be Brett, then it was Eddy for a while, and I'm now back to Brett. Don't ask me why... 😅
At first I thought: “This surely is a joke video“, but it actually is only half a joke. Now all the orchestra beginners will be confused :( :' D
this is actually the truth. not joke. :)
It wasn’t even half joke. Full truth haha

Best is when piece calls for drum kit and half band follows conductor, half follows drummer, conductor and drummer frequently or constantly disagree on tempo.

Xylophonist next to drumset; hmm.. drumset, or conductor... the struggle is real sometimes.
I am THAT drummer.
Sorry, I guess.
That happened to me at a concert and we had to restart! and ik i’m very late
This seems to be a characteristic of classical music players, not really pop musicians. Some conductors just make suggestions, as was said, and the leaders of the various sections may interpret differently. If you are a sensitive player it may be time to give up.
this is the most accurate representation of conductors the legitness is real

Why on earth would anyone do that ?!? 🤤
First of all, unless these are shoes they wear exclusively inside (I don't see the point, but why not), that's absolutely gross.
Second, that's not even comfortable ! I mean, when you're in bed, it's much more comfy to just have socks, or maybe lightweight slippers if you're chilling on the bed and the room is cold.

"Shut up you're playing too loudly" conducted every conductor ever. Thanks guys
Specially for fanfares and other brass band:
If your director is sitting and crying in a corner, try to not play ffffffffff when it’s written mp
I love when the conductor cues early and everyone in your section awkwardly tries to rush in, because they made that "why didn't you come in" face and then five seconds later your actual part starts and the conductor acts like it's your fault for listening to them.
I have always been first-row second violin so the conductor is always waving his baton in my face. It is nice to get approving looks once in awhile though.

I miss this type of videos 😁 They are both hilarious and educational
I have been enlightened!!!
*Ode to Joy playing in the background*
This is so so accurate. I remember one conductor where the whole orchestra would mutter about his "below the belt conducting"- he kept his hands so low that no one back in the winds and brass could see his hands from behind his music stand. And then he would get angry when we didn't play the way he wanted (because, you know, he was telling us exactly what to do with his hands that none of us could see...) And then there's Valery Gergiev. I'm not even an orchestral musician anymore and watching performances where he's conducting gives me anxiety!!!
I like when I have different conductors bc I get different teaching methods, but my god! It always sucks when you have to decipher how they count off with the baton. They all do it differently and then you get judged when you don't know how to follow them, yet! The first ten minutes at Honor Band, I was just trying to figure out the conductor's motions and I was so lost lol
Jessie Braud wow u have leveled band?! we started our orchestra program just last year lol
I came back here to revisit conductor skills after they conducted the youth orchestra and Brett looks a lot more passionate here lol
I actually learned more stuff in this 3:29 video than watching multiple 10-20 minutes long tutorials....
1:09 Eddy is JACKED!!! like omg bruh THOSE MUSCLES
One time during a concert my conductor actually knocked over my notes as the stage was pretty small and we had to sit too closely together. At first I panicked, but played along and the girl next to me quickly put them back up, then was cued in by the conductor again. That was probably the most stressful stage experience of my life.
I'm priviledged to have watched dozens of great conductors (from the audience, but having some musicianship myself), and this video is spot-on. I even recognized (I think) a couple of specific conductors' signature moves, LOL. Another wonderful thing I've seen: When the conductor does absolutely nothing for 1-2 seconds and just stands there basking in how excellent the orchestra is, before starting up again on the next phrase. This is rare & only happens with the best conductor/orchestra pairs, when the piece is well-known and is going well; it's almost like he's conducting telepathically or subliminally. As an audience member, I LOVE those times because you can feel in the air how in-tune the musicians are with each other and with the conductor - like the music has taken on a life of its own.
In highschool it was always a struggle to understand where my conductor was. I remember playing a piece called Arabesque, where the first 2 1/2 minutes or so are a flute solo accompanied by the occasional brass/percussion hit. While there is a time signature, the solo is generally played freely by the soloist. We did fine during all of our practices, and when the night of the concert arrived, he decided to dramatically cue that massive brass sting - but he did it 2 measures early. The brass section, not used to the cue, understandably went along with it. So I just skipped ahead to where the solo continued, like nothing happened. If you didn't know the piece, nothing would've seemed out of place. But we never let our conductor forget.
This may be my favorite TwoSetViolin video. It’s perfect.
1:10 you gotta be some sort of musical mastermind to be able to comprehend what humping air feels like on a violin
Thank you so much twosetviolin, I've learned a lot.
