He makes microwave music...music that's quickly made and will hit that hunger itch for a little while but will always leave you wanting something with a little more substance. Drake drops music like every couple months and the last few projects are forgotten quickly. He makes music that's easily accessible by EVERYONE. That's the literally definition of a pop artist.
@@brunojosuequifanda3733 I mentioned the last few projects. I said that specifically. Honestly Nevermind, CLB, FATD and that one with 21 Savage. Wasn't there a Dark Lane Demo in there as well? When is the last time Drake dropped a classic “RAP” album that you can’t live without repeating 😂. Not hate , facts . Like ish said Drake was a pure lyricist when he came in , and he hasn’t been on that timing in a looooong time. It is what it is 🤷🏾♂️. When teenagers try to say your the best rapper ever , the criticism is warranted no matter how much he or his fan base cries
I don't think he's ever had a classic due to his rapping ability. Any of his perceived classics and strictly due to the popularity of the music. Personally, I do consider drake to be hip hop. Here's my biggest critique of how he's perceived tho. I'm almost 30. So as a kid, the break consensus greats in no particular order were usually said to be.. Tupac. Biggie. Nas. Jay-Z. Eminem. Lil Wayne. As I got older, let's say the last 15 years or so. Ppl added to that list were drake. Kendrick. Cole. I feel like when you put that whole list of rappers together.. you see some sort of unifying qualities with them EXCEPT for Drake. He gets to be talked about with them on pure popularity. His lyrics aren't highly regarded. His flow isn't highly regarded. His content matter isn't highly regarded. He as a person and who he is and how he influences other young black men to be isn't highly regarded. He's in conversations with those ppl purely off popularity. He's held to a bar that's not the same for the other guys. With that said, again, I do think drake is hip hop. And everyone once in a while drake shows me that he is a dope ass rapper. But even with his BEST rap songs I think he should be ranked right under those guys with other GREAT rappers but not quite the goats. If I could put together a 12 song album of Drake's best raps and no one had heard em yet it would definitely be a classic rap album. But he's not consistent with it bc his main focus is making popular music and not truly impactful music for hip hop core fans.

It’s not hate. He just answered the question honestly.
why shade.....I think Mos has earned the right to comment on current rappers no different than Joe
Joe is honest about hate 😂 and transparent when it comes to hate
But mos def has never been anyone's favorite rapper 😅
A phenomenal way of saying "this isn't what it's about"
So many products! So many SKU's! ... I love this mall! They Have everything! 😅
Such elegant shade! 😅😅
I don't understand the elegance of the shade, please explain...
Yasiin was basically saying "...he Not Like Us"
THANK YOU MOS, FOR KEEPING IT REAL STILL
He wasn't hating he gave his opinion. He don't like drake! That don't mean that he's hating
Thank you Joe! People just don’t have these conversations in an intelligent way. Joe’s perspective is the full account (not purest, not commercial leaning, just informed). Everyone else was ducking for cover or not able to speak to this shit in depth.
Facts 💯
I agree with your point! Joe provides his reply giving a broader perspective of what may happen down the road with Drake.
This aged like fine wine. We're seeing what it looks like at the collapse right now.
It’s not hate. He answered a question. Just because yall sugarcoat sht and can’t stand on yall opinion as men that’s yall.
It was hate, he compared his music to shopping music
Was he wrong for describing it as is? The depiction was on point...@@jfraz1992
@@jfraz1992he wasn’t wrong

@@MACUhVelli he called him pop and said he makes Target shopping music. That's shade in the black community.. no matter if you thinnk he was wasnt or was wrong lol
Only in Hip Hop having an opinion is considered hate. When people watch a movie they didn't like they're not called a hater, they just didnt like it. You dont have to like everything just because its popular.
It's like that with the NBA too.
@@sxt4447 You're ignorant if you say Taylor Swift can't sing. You may not like her music, but if ur objective then u know she can sing. That is 100% hate if u say that.
@@sxt4447 a debate is not and has never been classified as hate though so...
It's hate when you have to go and tell people how much you dont like it, and try and tear someone down. Mos could have said...."I dont listen to Drake's music...it's not really my style"and moved on. You can at least acknowledege the dudes grind...instead of just shitting on him. Thats just pure jealousy. Trying to clown his music is being a hater. I don't like lil nas x or his music...but i dont spend time talking about him. I try to just avoid him as much as possible. I wasn't aware that Mos made the rules for what is hip hop and what isnt.....last i checked Mos did Plenty of singing on songs....rapped about women as well. Whats the difference?
@@KC-lg8qfcus most def is a true emcee. And Drake is just a rapper. He's just making a point. He was clowning a lil bit. Not gonna lie. And it does sound like hate. But I don't think he's jealous. I jus think he wishes he'd care more about the culture instead of moving units. Cus he knows how important he is so he wishes he can use it more for the culture. Most def coulda went the pop route. He didn't care about that tho. And that's his point. But not everyone is like him and that's what mos def don't understand. Or at least that's how it looks to me from the outside looking in. Look at Lil Wayne, or Eminem, or Jay z, Kendrick Lamar. Those guys stay true to the culture and still have the pop-success. And Drake pretty much goes all the way pop. And I think he doesn't like that. That's all he's saying in my humble opinion.
Drake isn’t hip-hop. He’s pop, that can rap.
I disagree
And u a hater lol😂
Thank me Later album , views ande scorpion and notwts and so far gone was pure hip hop
but he can't rap
do you disagree that Drake isn't hip hop or that Drake can rap?@@DEEG2535_
I once read an article where the writer stated that Fresh Prince was an MC and Will Smith was a rapper. MCs of the modern era don’t want to have to choose but in its own way that’s what To Pimp a Butterfly was all about, choosing to chase the bag or talk about shit that matters, evolve as an artist and progress the culture forward. Drake chose financial gain from day one. How did he do it? Like Mos said, “there’s so many products!”
Honest criticism and observations are hating now.
Mos is LEGENDARY for this 💪🏿💯
The whole team steps on Mel's words all episodes she does it once and every Joe stops her immediately.
Well Joe is their superior and also Mel is a female employee working in a male dominated, male curated, majority male-safe space. She understands that there may not necessarily be a hierarchy that exists between she and her colleagues, it’s better to behave in ladylike fashion because as the only female in the room, she represents the minority.
Mels input is the least needed on most subjects so..... Dont cut me off when im about cook!!
Well Joe is the boss so...
@@user-xw4vg1vy5e yeah he's the boss but it shouldn't be so obvious on camera. It just shows he has a massive ego which he needs to manage. They should all be free to express their opinions.
This is the JOE BUDDEN Podcast... not the buddies podcast. She a employee for some things. @@illgoat
I love when things age well
Why is criticism always considered hate nowadays?
I agree with Mos. Drake is and always has been a pop-star that can rap. That's not a bad thing.
Yeah forgotten but still breaking streaming records 😂
Nothing was The same is a classic .timeless work
@@brunojosuequifanda3733 I mentioned the last few projects. I said that specifically. Honestly Nevermind, CLB, FATD and that one with 21 Savage. Wasn't there a Dark Lane Demo in there as well? All of these were released within the last 2-3 years.
And don't get me wrong, I grew up listening to Drake heavy. So Far Gone was played heavily when I was in my early 20s. I loved IYRTITL. But even Drake fans gotta admit although he makes catchy music, the quality of the music has dropped drastically.
Makes more sense now
So no one remembers Degrassi??? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
“If I was in a target in Houston” Drake has a house in houston now😂😂😂
Drake is pop. Him using the meth Clip cause he know he can't say shit about mos. Drake mad he'll never get the respect he craves from the method mans mos defs, buddens of the game
i would be salty too. Especially if i made better music. Imagine actually believing Mos, method or Joe were better than Drake because they are "purists". Problem is when Drake decides to spit he spits better than all those you mentioned and that's fact. Drake isnt just a better artist than those people, but he RAPS better than all those artists too.
@@PrinceCortezJones😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 hell no.
Drake does not make better nor spit better than any of them.
Stop.
Y’all like to conveniently forget about his classic verses and diss records 😅
@MrEOM41 who drake? His diss tracks lightweight.
@@PrinceCortezJones As rappers there are Drake lyrically not on dat level but Drake nice

Typical JBP and fans getting upset when anything is said about Drake that isn't worship.

In light of recent events once again Mos was profound in his analysis. 😂
This wasn't hate on the part of Mos Def...Drake is pop, but he ain't trash. He feels like trash right now, should probably stick to dissing people not named Kendrick. I never bought a Drake album, not worth multiple listens in my opinion.
I am pretty sure Flip smells Mel’s seat when no 1 looking.

When I heard "7 am on Bridle Path", I was convinced this dude is nice with it. And this is coming from a 51 year old 90's era type hip-hop head.
Drake has a shit ton of bar heavy songs just like that bro, check then out, I'm sure you'll fuck with them
Mss Def was telling the truth and people who can’t handle the truth only when they’re spelling it all it call it hate🤦🏾♀️🤷🏽♀️ that’s what they call us truth tellers🫵🏽🤪
It's out of their depth. All these dudes care about is getting money.
Exactly, I’m with her! Why are they calling it hate! Grown men are really sensitive these days!
I like Drake but he's pop he in the bruno mars lane more than anything. Only reason he is considered hip-hop is cuz Wayne put him on that's alllll.
Why is a critique or opinion have to be hate … this is a very simplistic view of conversation
Hip Hop (rap) IS Pop now. That’s what get lost in these discussions.

Joe Budden panel is tripping. Mos Def DEFINITELY said Drake is NOT Hip Hop and I agree with him. I put him in the same lane as Justin Beiber.
Even tho i 1000% agree wit Mos take on it... I coincidentally heard Umi says while i was shoppin at Target lol
🤣🤣🤣
This isn’t hate. It’s fact. I’m not a fan of Mos Def but he ain’t wrong.
Thank you. Drake when he came in could've been R&B and/or hip hop but the more hip hop he tried to be the more pop he got.
When the last time anyone dropped one like that outside the ONE Killer Mike dropped
Scary Hour 3 EP because EPs with five or more tracks in The US are considered albums now
Hip hop is the only genre that we declassify you in he was but hes not anymore how does that work.Mos comments comes off as he never was hip hop to begin with and thats the shade.
Its not hate, its honest objective assesment. Where's the hate? And Drake is hip hop like taco bell is Mexican food. Its mexicanish. Drake is hip pop.
Drake is like doja cat.
They're popstars who can rap.
