Just ran mine today, over 8" of fresh Mich snow. Found beside the road 3 years ago, put a diaphragm in, been running it ever since. I don't leave any fuel in over the summer, and it starts right up. New ones this size are 4 stroke, heavier and $500. bucks!!
Great video, thank you for it. I do have a question about the (F) designation on the carb. There is an (H) stamped on the side of my carb. I'm not sure what goes on first, the gasket or the diaphragm. Can you help me out with that question? I am working on a TORO 620 The carb looks exactly like the one you are working on.
I found 2 adjustment screws on the carb. This doesn't have a trottle, so I didn't think one was for the idle. Anyway I turned them both in and then out 1 1/2 turns as you have suggested in your other videos. It fired right up and runs nicley with the choke open. RUclips is a wonderful recourse for learning. And thanks to folks like yourself I feel more enriched.
IMHO your videos are some of the best on you tube. I've been viewing them for a few years now but never commented. The video and audio is great with no excessive talking and best of all NO MUSIC. Thanks for your efforts. They are greatly appreciated.
I am literally working on the exact same snowblower the Toro S - 200. I had somebody give me their grandparents snowblower it was purchased back in 1979. I was having some carburetor problems so I did the exact same thing you did with the carburetor rebuild only I took mine off and sprayed it out using a combination of carburetor cleaner and an air compressor. The air fuel mixture screws on the side of your carburetor you turned yours out 1-1/2 turns mine were already preset at exactly 1 turn. I'll let you know the outcome when I am done I like your video very informative thank you very much.
Just got everything back together everything works great I had to slightly tweaked the carburetor adjustments a little bit. Excellent job on your video thank you.
make sure the needle seat is in properly. make sure the L screw isn't turned out to much and don't prime it too much and make sure the gas cap is venting
I have to compliment you on your videos rebuilding various carburetors.. And you do a fine job showing & explaining how to take them apart as well as putting them back together.. I chuckled some when you said it was such a pain & you worked on it for about 5 hour & had the carburetor apart a few times.. Because I have Toro Snow Master 20 with the same carburetor that I took apart & rebuilt completely with the 631893A rebuild kit.. I basically removed the carb & took it all apart & cleaned it all in a ultrasonic cleaner.. I made sure it was all clean & try & resembled it back together & adjusted the 2 mixtures screws out about 1 1/4 turns out.. I even cleaned out the gas tank because the last owner left old fuel in it.. I put the bottom and top covers back on the snow blower & it started & ran fine until I went to use it the next day.. Now it seems impossible to start because it appears to be getting too much gas as if it's getting flooded.. Now I'm a little frustrated because I had to tear it all down again to get to the carburetor.. When I pull the cord to start it the carburetor seems to spew out gas, other words the carburetor appears to be filling up with gas just by pulling the engine cord.. I know what you meant when you said the machine was a real pain.. That's what mine appears to me.. I'm sure it's something simple that I'm over looking.. Do have any ideas what the problem might be? If I get it figured out before I get a response back, I will let you know what the problem turned out to be.. Thanks..
Just picked up a Toro CR20E for $20 yesterday. It’s nowhere near pristine condition, but everything is solid and the recoil and electric start work just fine. This video will be great for whenever I have to rebuild the carb. Found the kits on eBay for $9.99/free shipping. My snow shovel and I have had our last dance!
Donyboy73.. You are simply the best on RUclips. Hands down. I"ve rehabed lawnboys, lawn tractors one stage, two stage snowblowers and a few weed trimmers. I have to laugh because I'm actually a television reporter in Pittsburgh and all the folks in the newsroom are asking be to fix their lawn and garden equipment all the time.. They all ask how the hell I learned all this stuff.. Keep up the good work..
Very helpful! My current Toro S200 snowblower is another curb find that ran for a while and then didn't run for about 3 years. Did everything the video showed with the addition of a new properly gapped spark plug and voila!. It fired up, stayed running smoothly and I'm ready to go. THANKS.
Another tip. The little white seat is a "rubber-like" material and doe not like to slide in and seat square on the bottom of the brass needle housing. A tiny squirt of silicone square lets it slide right in.
the "F" DESIGNATION on the carb. the order of the gasket and diphragm. the screws had to be turned out 2 full turns for it to run right. they are a pain to work on
I have the same little toro. My problem is with the choke. It will only run if is fully choked. I let it warm up and try to un-choke it and it dies. Even at half choke it dies. I see you have other videos on carb adjustments, but not for this engine. Any thoughts? BTW I have found your videos very educational and well done.
Ok I adjusted the carb screws and it runs very good now, no more black stains and fuel flying every where. Now I just have a problem with it smoking slightly, what should I adjust? I will have a video up on it tommorow. BTW whats this engines horse power???
Cool, just picked up an S-620, anyway to make it run faster? It’s just those mixture screws that’s all? Thanks been watching your channel for years, great tips! Dave
I have worked on thoes Toro snow blowers thay are a pain in the ass to work on becous everything is plastic but when they run good thay do a good job and a light
Great video. I did mine and it wouldn't work. Now that I watched your video, I know exactly where I went wrong. I knew I should have asked a Canadian about a snow blower.
Hi, took off the carburetor diaphragm and clean it out with carburetor cleaner. I did not remove the needle and seat behind the diaphragm. I checked that it works with diaphragm. I was able to put everything back. I had taken out the carburetor adjustment screws for cleaning and put both back on. Now I have two problems. One is that Its hard to pull the rope start and I see lot of gas is leaking from the muffler. What do you think I did wrong?
Mine was hard to pull, too. A mechanic told me it's because the pull cord needs replaced. Another told me it's because these blowers don't have a clutch and throttle. When you pull, you are pulling the flapper as well. Good luck.
Just used a 631893A kit to rebuild a carb on a Toro S-140 snowblower. The symtoms I had was, would not start, and gas coming out of the muffler. On my carb, the plate that the primer bulb hose attaches to and secures the diaphragm to the carb is made out of plastic. Because of this you can see through it and I could see gas there. A sure sign the diaphragm is leaking. No gas should be there, only air that moves the diaphragm when the primer bulb is pumped. Starts and runs great now.
Great Video. However, our snowblower runs slow. Is there a way to adjust the governor and speed it up. There is no throttle cable on the Toro Snowmaster.
i was going to get back to you on this but you fixed it first. please rate my videos if u are happy with them and tell your friends to subscribe too. i will always be posting new vids
Thx for video I'm working same one as you now just needed to go pick up diaphragm kit but also two adjusment screws on side in video one is missing on mine do you the size of those or where I could just two adjusment screws thanks for the help
Im finally gonna pull mine apart tomorrow and do the same thing. Should work, it runs if you dump fuel straight into the carb but as soon as its gone it quits. Wont prime at all. Why did you have to take to carb off so many times to get yours to run after you rebuilt it? I dont want to run into the same problems! Thanks
Hi donyboy, You mentioned that you had a few issues with this little Toro (taking apart the carb several times). In the end, what was the problem with the carburetor? Thanks, Len
I just re-watched your video. I noticed you don't have a Welch plug in and the next shot you do. I was missing the Welch plug when I opened the carb and didn't know a plug should go there. Could be this be why it's leaking yet still running? Thanks. PS AWESOME VIDEO HELPED ME BIG TIME.
I have a question, how come at time 3:39, there is no welch plug on the screw port but at 3:40 there is suddenly a welch plug in? When you took off the carb, there was no welch plug in that port. So, is one needed there?
I have that exact same machine. It starts OK but I have to keep replacing the spark plug because it makes them all black and foul. It leaves black stains on the side walk too. I dont believe it is dripping like yours. My biggest problem is when it runs the engine throtle "wavers" in and out but after I rev the throtle pin on the machine it seems to make it quit. Any ideas on how to fix this? Im gonna do the 1 1/2 turn on the carb thing and see if it helps. Please help!!!
Can someone tell me what the silver discs are in the rebuild kit and what they do. I don't see where they go. Someone gave me an s 620 and it runs after rebuilding the carb but it seems to leak fuel out the exhaust even when not running.
+Rich Tulko those are welsh plugs, you may not need them anyway. the leak may be caused by a bad needle and seat. if you have the float carb you may want to replace the bowl o-ring
Would it be too much to ask for you to post model and serial # of your unit? I'm interested in looking up the schematic on the diaphram and gasket. The schematic on my 38162 s620 has the gasket/diaphram in reverse order. Couldn't find the "f" anywhere on my carb but that's because there's a lot of oil and dirt all over the place.
i have question i have this same carburetor the issue is with mine it has new kit and everything and wont run. you put lil gas top carb manually fires and dies. i have noticed when you push primer bulb no gas spirts up out the main brass jet in center. I have cleaned lots of jets but how in gods name do u get wire in to clean this sucker. over on the side of bottom of carb there is rectangular type opening with hole in center but i cant get lil wire fished in to clean it any ideas?
Your work is very good, but that snow blower does not seem to be doing much of a job, the road or sidewalk is still heavily snow covered, Won't it set down closer to the surface? Mine leaves just a trace of snow behind.
This repair sounds like one of those occasional frustrating jobs. Been there and done that. I sometimes hesitate to bill the customer for all the hours spent on a repair like this.

You had to take carb apart. Before carb kit or after?
Hi my name is Brian I was wondering if you have a picture of the spring and governor connection to carb for this
I found 2 adjustment screws on the carb. This doesn't have a trottle, so I didn't think one was for the idle. I know this is an old video but this video was so much help. I got my 40 year old Toro S-140 Snow Thrower running link a champ.

Thanks for the detail Dony. Made it easy for me to do the same job.
@donyboy73...You never cease to amaze me. Your work is always excellent and done in an orderly manner.
5 hours Donyboy what did you end up charging for the work?
i forget, it's been too long

lol, maybe you can give me a shout out on tv
before 3.42 it shows the diaphram side of carb with one welch -plug missing then after that it has a welch plug in the hole which is corect right?
Very helpful! My current Toro S200 snowblower is another curb find that ran for a while and then didn't run for about 3 years. Did everything the video showed with the addition of a new properly gapped spark plug and voila!. It fired up, stayed running smoothly and I'm ready to go. THANKS.
thank you sir!
Gr8 video help me get my toro snowblower back up and running
@TheHossHobart thanks
@colbycous01 thanks
use 45:1 gas mix, also you may want to replace the carb kit
Another tip. The little white seat is a "rubber-like" material and doe not like to slide in and seat square on the bottom of the brass needle housing. A tiny squirt of silicone square lets it slide right in.
Thank you I found this very helpful. My S200 now is back to normal. Thank you again!!!

i don't have that machine here anymore but if you cannot find an "f" anywhere on the carb then it would be opposite of in my video
actually I did put one in, when I took it apart it had none, however it didn't affect the operation of the engine either way
@TheMasterfabricator do u have a vid, is it on a snowblower?
5 hours......pulling the carb off, and cleaning completely would have been quicker.
@NETWORK2UPNETWORTH might be a carb issue
funny. im rebuilding the exact same blower. I had to take apart half the blower to remove the whole carb. what a pain
i would have to physically see it to tell you. if you come across another carb you could try that. they are a pain to work on though, not my favorite
AROUND 5 HP
@MSTLOM make sure to subscribe
Since you said you had to remove the carb a bunch of times did you end up removing the welch plugs too?
I have worked on thoes Toro snow blowers thay are a pain in the ass to work on becous everything is plastic but when they run good thay do a good job and a light

Dave did you get It figured out, I have the same problem after I put the kit In, any answer's or link's would help If you have them, thank's Heff
Finished the project. Now my thrower is leaving black marks on the sidewalk from the muffler that runs parallel with the wheel axle. Is this normal?

should both low and highspeed needles have a rubber washer? my highspeed needle did not have one and i checked inside the carb.
How many inches of snow can the S series handle?
I can't find a socket that will get the seat out - frustrating!
sometimes I sacrifice one and grind it on the sides so it fits
donyboy73 I think I ruined one carb because I have tried everything and that soft brass is still in there.
Where do you find the carb kit for $12, I'm in Toronto
Amazon
i have am S140 it is really loud do you have any idea what it might be?
I put one in but it made no difference in performance and proper running of the engine
i have question i have this same carburetor the issue is with mine it has new kit and everything and wont run. you put lil gas top carb manually fires and dies. i have noticed when you push primer bulb no gas spirts up out the main brass jet in center. @donyboy73 if i only knew what the "L" screw was.
Man I removed my carburetor and don't remember where the governer linkage and spring goes :(
5-12 inhes

same here lol
@NETWORK2UPNETWORTH lol
lol
guess you show how to replace it but clean the carb properle. more garbage
@colbycous01 paypal is donyboy73 at yahoo dot com
That looks like a piece of crap snowblower. Good video though.
thanks
