I really appreciate your tutorial on the diaphragm replacement. I have a CR 20 Toro which is very similar to the model you were working on. Removing the cover is a ridiculously difficult job, because for one thing, my choke cable is a solid rod which means you have to bend it to remove it from the linkage rather than just bending a cable and pulling it out. I don't understand why Touro didn't keep up with the system on the earlier model that had a removable panel over the carburetter section so that access could be gained without removing the whole shroud... keep up the great work we all appreciate it out here!
Great video Dony....I dragged my Toro S140 from the garage attic after prolly 20 yrs, would start on starting fluid but quit when it ran out. So got on here and saw your video and ordered the parts kit. Tore it down and disassembled carb, all gummed up and packed full of guck. Soaked and cleaned with carb cleaner then reassembled and set it up as your video showed. Put new gas in it and it started the first pull!!! Runs like a Swiss watch.....thanks again Dony !!!
I have the successor to that one you just worked on,mine being a CR-20.I bought it brand new on Nov7 1987...(Yup 33 years old!) ...I use this blower every year and have only had to change out the scraper on the bottom and a new spark plug every year.Trick to keeping this running and starting every year is to use fresh gas and good mix oil(Amsoil) and drain gas every year.I have seen lots of videos regarding the damage Ethanol in the gas has caused(stiff diaphragms,etc)...I have yet to take my carb apart...I dunno, lucky I guess?! I may try some TruFuel 40:1 pre-mixed fuel this winter, only because it supposed to last 2 years once opened and I want to try it anyway.
My weed eater and my leaf blower are the same way. Ethanol is corrosive to aluminum, and alot of folks forget to drain and purge their power equipment engines 2 and 4 cycle engines. I dump any fuel through a filter and into my crown vic, the 32:1 mix I buy i actually disperse with some seafoam/MMO into my push and riding mowers and run them out with it each fall.
Dony, when I watch you vids, I always learn something even though I might never need to use the knowledge. It's better to know and never use it, then need to know and not have the knowledge. Thank you Joe Bucci
Great video Dony, I picked up 4 of these blowers in the summer, put new diaphragms in them along with new scraper bars(something I find is always badly worn) and sold them the past 2 weeks because of all the snow we got here in southern Ontario.
Smashing tutorial as allways :-)) My frend did the same type of thing to the brake switch on his car, he was lucky as i was able to straighten the contacts and clip it together :-) People are too rough with plastic.
Donyboy- my Toro S - 200 had the F1 on the back bottom side of the carburetor and I was looking at your video at 5:53 that was a big help because I was confused when I was rebuilding the carb. The 1979 toro S - 200 runs again ! I've been working on random mechanical / electrical equipment myself here in there since I was about 11 years old. looks like you probably have done the same. Great job and great video thanks for the help.
Thank you for informative video on the Toro S200. I mixed up the 2 different carb screws and wonder if you could advise which is the idle and which is the high speed needle as both are different
The screw with a shoulder is the idle needle and goes in closer to the engine the screw with a taper like an ice cream cone is the high speed and goes farther from the motor.
Do you have the part# for the ignition piece you were talking about? Mine won't shut off when I turn the key off or is this because I probably need to service the carb like you did?
Hi Dony. I need your help. I bought a new toro large single stage 4 cycle snow blower 2 years ago. I need details on checking the oil and filling the oil. Should the blower be sitting on it wheels to check the oil or tipped up, because the dipstick is kind of low and hard to get to. also, where do you add oil....through the dipstick hole. Sounds very stupid, but I don't want to over fill it or burn it up by not putting oil in it. Thanks.
Hey Donyboy, I recently found a Toro Snapper 17 (LE3170R) that wouldn't start. I replaced the carb, gas filter and tested the spark plug that I cleaned and had spark. It started and ran for 10 minutes until I shut it off. When I went to restart is approx 10 min later she wouldn't start again. I had also placed bit of seafaom in the tank when I had it running. Any idea what the issue may be?
Great video! What was the symptoms of the diaphragm on this snowblower? My mom has the same snow blower and it surges a lot but will run decent with a little bit of choke.
Could you make a video of how to replace the paddles on a single stage snow blower? I have a 12 year old yardmachine MTD single stage snow blower that the rubber paddles are worn. Also thanks for the great videos, the ones on Tecumseh carburetors were a great help for when I rebuilt the one in my snow blower with a 2 stroke Tecumseh engine in it.
I found one of these in the neighbor's trash pile about ten years ago, this one has the conventional float carburetor...Pretty much unstoppable after cleaning/rebuilding the carb and repairing the recoil...Yeah, this thing isn't going to go through big drifts, or hard packed snow left at the end of the driveway by the plow, but still does alot of work for its size...Nothing much to maintain, a new belt/rubber blades every few years, along with a new starter rope/grip now and then...I mix the oil heavier than recommended also... The engine is finally getting a little fussy this year, am hoping it is just a crappy plug, even though it is a relatively new champion....Do you have any spark plug recommendations for these engines?
Hello! I hope you’re doing well. I have been gifted a Toro-200. And it will not start. What are your recommendations. Do you have a video? Thanks for any advice.
donboy great videos. I have Toro a CR 20 snowblower its . lowing smoke. I have already cleaned and rebuilt carberutor. Im running a 50:1 mix instead of the 32:1 indicated on the gas cap hoping to reduce the smoke. Any suggestions?
The manual calls for two-cycle oil that has the NMMA or BIA-TCW certification on the label. Super Tech TC-W3 Outboard 2-Cycle Engine Oil, 16 oz works well in my snowblower.
hi.great vid as always.how about a "how it all started" vid including talking about some of the funnier things that have gone on in your shop.regards jason
Donny I have s200 toro. It runs but the chock has to stay open and I have to keep pushing the primer bulb for a while until it warms up. It will then continue to run bit the chock still has to be open. What s going on with it. I've changed the diaphragm and washer alrrady.
I "inherited" a Toro S200, which is basically identical. I rebuilt the carb including a new needle, seat and diaphragm, carefully installing the seat and diaphragm according to instruction in your last video, repeated here. Fuel leaks from the tank through the car and out. Obviously the needle is not seating. Any ideas other than buy a new/rebuilt carb ?
Thanks - Very nice video. My S200 is hard to start, and will only keep running if I keep priming it. I was hoping the gas line or filter might be restricted, but that's not it. What do you think? Change the diaphragm or maybe replace the carb?
Squanto357 - that's exactly what my S-200 was doing. I picked up a carb rebuild kit on Amazon for $9.00. Generally when I have this happen on a piece of equipment that does not have a diaphragm in the carburetor it usually tells me that the main jet is clogged with some debris so therefore I must open it up and clear it out. Check out Dony's videos He has done one hell of a job. 👍
Just watched your other video where you show how much snow you have. I was wondering if these machines are good for deep snow. Are single stage throwers good for snow that is over a couple inches?
Donny The vids are always awesome. Can you show us your way of replacing a broken idler arm spring on an ariens snowblower. It is pretty tricky given the amount of room you have. I slid it in with a pair of pliers and hooked it on the snowblower body. I then pulled it into place with a hook and seated it on the idler arm with a screwdriver. (2 hours to figure this out). Do you have a better, easier way?
I have a 33 year old Toro CR-20 that has never had the carburetor screws touched all the time I have owned it...so which screw is which?...is the high speed screw closest to the handlebar? Thanks
Hello Dony, I have a question about my MTD Snow king. It's a 5hp tecumseh engine, I think, correct me if I'm wrong. Anyhow, as I was using the snow blower, I had it running for about 15 minutes and everything was fine at first. I had recently replaced the auger belt. To the point, As it was running a considerable amount of oil just started pouring out of the head and onto the engine. This isn't something I have seen before, the engine was still running fine, but I did shut it of right away. I'm not sure what happened, (Head Gasket, pistón rings, exhaust valve??) what does your experience think? MTD yard machines snow king 31a-611d062 2001. Thanks for your time in advance. Cory
@DONYBOY73 Love your videos! Good stuff. Need to change the friction disk on an older 1970 Ariens 10000 series beast! Your video on it was not that correct. Any videos or ideas you can point my too. Evan in Boston MA USA :)
I did the carb rebuild kit (#631893A) on my Jiffy model 30 (tecumseh AV520 670119S (B)) and it runs for about 15 seconds and then sputters out... it has the carb (stamped with an F) from the video on it and it seems to only start/run if i push the primer, and when i do that there is a bit of gas leaking out of the diaphragm cover.. or around there? possibly the plastic hose part? I'm at a loss! I did do the full kit other than the little steel plates.
I'm working on a Gilson snowblower. Its basically an old toro s200. I rebuild the carb and changed the diaphragm. I have it running pretty good but not prefect and I seems to me that the motor is reving to high. The carb doesn't have 2 adjustment screws on the side of it like the toro, it only has one and then the screw and spring for the throttle. Someone had changed the throttle screw, it was pushed all the way in on the top of carb. Where sound this screw be set to? I have the other screw set to 1 3/4 turns. Its a tecumseh motor, I believe about a 3hp and earily 1970's.
love these snow blowers some reson i had one one time and i took the muffler off an made a stack out of it kinda killer i was just board one day and thought hell why not
I just got a toro just like this but it's a 14" and very similar/same motor. My problem is I can get it started on choke with a bunch of primes but will die out in a few seconds, but if I keep priming it it will stay running. Any help is appreciated thanks!
hey i just bought one with the same problem my friend i bought it off of replaced the diaphragm and still the same problem i bought it got it back to my house and it had the same symptoms i was looking at the carb and i seen the adjustment screws. first turn the screw farthest toward the operator all the way in then turn it out 1 turn then try to start if still does not start turn out by 1/2 turns. if further assistance is needed feel free to p.m. me with any other questions or concerns.
Normally what I end up doing for customers is replacing the diaphragm carburetor with a float carburetor mainly because they are more readily available and easier to work on. You also don’t have to worry about the diaphragms going bad.
I was wondering this. I have an old "Ariens ST 2+2" model 932015. I see carbs on Amazon with floats that look like they would fit and the throttle and choke points look similar. Gas was leaking from the carb and by the time you get gaskets, needle o-rings, etc.. you might as well just buy a new carb. And of course I lost a little washer for the idle screw that goes between the spring and o-ring. It didn't come out like the main adjustment washer did and when I sprayed carb cleaner in there I noticed it had come out.
@@jm97240 You have to look up parts based on the engine model number for engine parts, not the snowblower itself. There are a lot of similar looking carbs but some may have slight differences. Make sure you get the right carburetor for your engine.
All Tecumseh 2-cycle engines equipped with a Tecumseh diaphragm carb use the same replacement diaphragm & needle/seat. The part #'s may be different but those are the exact same parts. You may try visiting a local mom & pop outdoor power equipment shop. There should be a number stamped on the carb flange that I would suggest you write down & bring with in case the dealer might need to cross reference parts for you.
didnt know you had a border collie whats its name? mine is called daisy shes a year old now although ive only had her 10 months as i got her last march aged 5 months
Larry Lafferty - One quick way is look for a port to add oil on the crankcase/engine. Two cycles lawn / snowblower equipment should not have that due to they use a pre-mixed fuel only in the fuel tank this lubricates the engine. If you look on dirt bikes and ATVs that are two cycle they will have a separate engine port for engine oil but that is specifically made for the gears and clutches to function properly and reduce friction. If it's a newer to cycle lawn and garden equipment they typically run 50:1 gas while mixture in the gas tank. Older models were generally 32:1 mixtures. I believe they changed it because of tighter tolerances, better oils such as synthetics and last but not least emissions.
Sorry,I should have said farthest screw from the handlebar or frame, looking straight at them, the one farthest right is the High speed screw...8:04 on the video. Thanks
Hi DB, Im sorry, but on this one Im going to disagree with you. Why would you replace the diaphragm and not clean out the jets and the needle/seat? Even if you were not replacing those other parts, why would you only do half the job? You know as well as I that if your service had not worked out, you would be back in there tearing it apart a second time....
I really appreciate your tutorial on the diaphragm replacement. I have a CR 20 Toro which is very similar to the model you were working on. thanks for watching! are you down under in Australia?
donyboy73 United States, I don't know if that is good or bad these days. lol

Thank you. Great information. Just what I was looking for. 👍🏻
Good video as always. I see these snowblowers listed not running for sale usually around $50 to $100 US. What would be a good price once up & running?
about $125
Donny is there a replacement carburetor for the Toro S200..I have the ah520 engine ? Thanks

Thanks for this video. I'll give it a try. Amazon has a while gasket kit for about $10.

Not sure if you can get them ,but I use the Mountain Brand roloc disk instead of 3M. Half the price and work just as good.

Hi don, do you ever get in you're shop the snowblowers with the newer Briggs engine
yes a lot of them
Just watched your other video where you show how much snow you have. I was wondering if these machines are good for deep snow. Are single stage throwers good for snow that is over a couple inches?
a bit small for deep snow, however they can be handy on a roof
Donny The vids are always awesome. Can you show us your way of replacing a broken idler arm spring on an ariens snowblower. It is pretty tricky given the amount of room you have. might be easier to separate the front form the back of blower so you have more room to work on
Hey dony
I have a craftsman 40cc chainsaw and when I start it it only runs for about 15 or 20 seconds and then quits, help!!
hi there. I used to own one of these in Pennsylvania. It ran like a bear. do you think it would throw wet sand in Florida?
My snowmaster idles good but when under a load it stalls out. What do u think is the problem?
on your video did you change the needle & spring and all that good stuff I must have blinked.

Another fine video! Thanks!

i saw your viedo on this carb rebuild an you said it took you about five hrs, what was the problem i am having the same problem with mine
@DONYBOY73 Love your videos! Good stuff. Need to change the friction disk on an older 1970 Ariens 10000 series beast! Your video on it was not that correct. Any videos or ideas you can point my too.

Whew! Thought for a second there you were being stalked by a wolf!
+Justin Gengler did you try turning out the adjustment screws?
+donyboy73 I put the new o-rings in and set them to what jiffy specified... I would want to adjust the "H" screw first right?

good job on this video
Nice vid keep it up dony :)
thanks man
I used the engine from one for a motorized bike how do I adjust the carb so it doesn't surge and spit smoke when I hit a bump
Damn I love every single video u post.....any way where or sates do u live ..i am in st paul mn....
i'm in Ontario canada
my toro ccr1000 starts good runs good but the first pull it jerks rope back when priming,, but runs like new ??
might want to check timing
Hey don't! Are you going to do any more Q+A vids? Thanks!
hopefully next Friday, been too busy
would you be willing to send me one of these carb kits? I may need one for my Toro s-140 and I can't get one here in the states.

Once again another great video I laugh at these little machines
But can now fix them
We had old two stroke Toro like that. Problem was, that it was quite useless when snowed heavy.
HOW do you set the R P M's and what speed??
Does that snow blower have a tecumesh?
yes a 2 stroke tecumseh
didnt know you had a border collie whats its name? mine is called daisy shes a year old now although ive only had her 10 months as i got her last march aged 5 months
This is exactly same as my 1980s Simplicity 220 snowblower. I think both have the same parts. Now who is the real manufacturer is a big mystery!!!
Great vid, you din't show the switch replacement.
"If it the bottom plate is stuck pry gently or just do this. *Bang* *Bang* *Bang* And there you go."
exactly
donyboy73 I was thinking the same thing as Shryptic . I had to laugh.
Like they say..."Don't force it, just use a bigger hammer."
What is the procedure for adjusting the screws.....?? CAT
I had one 15 year ago it wood never run wright , new carb kit , on on so junk lol
How to I tell the difference between 2 cycle and 4 cycle?
Okay thanks Fattony123082 that helped. Right know I am just re fixing and selling them. I am just starting out.
Neat dog.
Does this thing even have a muffler on it?
Sorry,I should have said farthest screw from the handlebar or frame, looking straight at them, the one farthest right is the High speed screw...8:04 on the video. Thanks
The Toro site has the operator's manuals for your model, and what you need should be on page 8. I download one of them .
Hi DB, Im sorry, but on this one Im going to disagree with you. Why would you replace the diaphragm and not clean out the jets and the needle/seat? Even if you were not replacing those other parts, why would you only do half the job? You know as well as I that if your service had not worked out, you would be back in there tearing it apart a second time....
there was no need to clean this carb, the title of the video does not say that. as you saw in the video the inside was very clean
Strange machine.
It picks up snow then blows it onto the area you're trying to clean.
But I'm from the Southern hemisphere.
I hate those old crappy toro's everyone is trying to sell them, they are everywhere.
Isn't it nice to use some else's stuff to clean your own sidewalk
loved my s 200 not single problem in 3 years first pull every time and it was built in 1981 always a touch extra oil and it was happy
