the big difference is you're waiting for your opponent to move to then think about what you're going to do which eats your time whereas top GMs already thought of their opponents best moves so they already know a few responses depending on which the opponent chooses.
@@SKRUBL0RD This isn't true. GMs are excellent, but they're not computers. They can't evaluate all of their opponents' next moves in a blitz game, where most moves past theory are mainly instinctive. Sure, with increments it's slightly more possible, but even then that isn't the "big difference". The BIG difference is these guys are 2500+ and can read and react to moves 100x faster (and obviously 100x better, lol) than your average 1200.

You know Dubov is an excellent and promising player when Magnus always starts his games against him with real personal pressure. He is very serious and knows Dubov well (he has lost a few games against him in the past/recently). He's genuinely happy to win (or ... not to lose against him).
I always get feedback that I’m too trade happy and need to develop my pieces more But then here’s Magnus with his white bishop j chilling on the back rank until move 20+ while he continuously trades What gives?! I know at points the bishop is guarding the pawn but couldn’t you set something up so it remains guarded while being able to utilize your bishop?
The way to get good at chess is to follow all the rules. The way to get great at chess is to know when to break them. You want to follow the rules as strictly as possible so you can learn when it's a good idea to break them.

from a social psychology point of view it is really interesting to observe the various nervous tics that Magnus (and many of us) exhibit that unintentionally broadcast our mental state to the outside world, whether it is covering his mouth to conceal a mistake or to attempt to hide an idea, or looking to his left and scratching his right ear when he feels like he has found a solution to a challenge, or combing his hair with his hand when he has made a move where he wants to appear stronger than he actually is. it is fascinating to watch
