This is exactly what I came here to comment. I've got 3 and without the cooldown it's just more aggravating than helpful. I was hoping to get some of Lewis's presence sensors but they're always out of stock. So I may have to try Aqara's presence sensors.
Hey Travis, I am wondering if the blind time can also be adjusted like the Zigbee P1 Aqara Motion device. What is the minimum time that can be set to detect the next motion?
@@digiblurDIY Thanks! I watched the video again. Starting at 8:53 you explain that there is no setting for occupancy_timeout (cooldown) for the matter device. That's what I was interested in! Do you have a reccomendation for a motion sensor with a occupancy_timeout less than 1 sec?
I have been using the old zigbee ones for over 5 year, I mean they arrived before chrismas 2018 and we have 6 of these working. It is important to check the coin cells , the batteries cause we had back then a bad one which did not work . I am quite happy with all the zigbee stuff cause it usually does work quite reliabe compared to energy hungry wifi things or BT devices that suffer from range.
@@digiblurDIY Agreed : I use BT for environmental sensors (temp/humidy) and zigbee for action sensors (presence, door/lock open/close). It's all about the latency.
It might matter more when I see the need to add more matter devices to my setup. But after it dropped out like 3 or 4 devices for no reason and then took me an hour to get my lock back in... Nah bro. My time and sanity matter.
It's Aqara not Aqaria ! We know what you meant.
Lol. I heard it enough at CES but still have to catch myself.
nope. its dance around, rub your belly, and pat your head....and cross the big toe on your left foot over the next toe, if its a Thursday....
So iffy with this Matter stuff. Pray anytime I have to pair stuff back up.
Thanks Travis.
I’m a bit skeptical about the tiny skyconnect dongle.
How far is the coverage around the house without some external antenna?
It's just an older EFR chipset deal. Adding additional border routers or mains powered devices will be key here. Just like zigbee
Can't use this without configurable cool down. When they add additional parameters, I'll buy some.

Fully agree! Not having those sliders or even OTA upgrades at this time isn't making me run to get on this Thread train.
Why wait? The 2410s and 2450's can be had in many other sensors. Check out Screeks - ebay.us/ykTbMU
I pair mine with my HomeKit no problem but once it’s paired I get ‘accessory not responding’ any ideas why?
Not sure. I don't have any homekit stuff. I just did it with Thread.
Many thanks for the Content
OG had fun with it for sure. We had to bring SpongeBob back for the motion testing again.

BT range isn't an issue with BT Proxies around but the speed hasn't been the greatest. Zigbee is still my goto for quick response battery sensors.

Yup! Same here. Love some Govee, Thermopro, etc Bluetooth sensors. Cheap and just work.
New?... I have had those for months....
Yep. Released on April 9th 2024 www.aqara.com/us/news-us-2/aqara-expands-thread-product-portfolio-with-a-new-motion-sensor/
I may have missed a previous video: what thread radio are you using?
I showed it quickly saying what you needed. Using the EFR based Skyconnect one.
@@digiblurDIY Ah, digging a bit, I see there are now multi-protocol firmware for the EFR32 based dongles. Cool beans!
Even the EFR based sonoff stick. But however I am sticking to my CC2652 for Zigbee usage.
Glad to see matter still doesn't matter :D
Does it matter if I make too many matter jokes in a video?
@@digiblurDIY it always matter, until it doesn't matter anymore lol

Nothing has changed Mija/Aqara stuff. Still seems like Fischer Price stuff, apart the batteries are more expensive, lol
I haven't been too much of a fan on the older stuff after the whole non Zigbee spec Zigbee devices.
