My POE went down and I had to use a non-powered switch, but I used the USB from an unrelated device to power it and it sat on the LAN just like normal. Worked fine until I could replace the POE switch. I'm using straight Zigbee, haven't tried MQTT yet. It talks to 4 different brands of devices in my house. Thermos, plugs, IR blaster, dimmers, etc.. Using HA, I think it was as easy as setting the switch to pick USB or LAN and telling HA the IP and default port, then it found all the Zigbee devices when they were put in "learn" mode. No hiccups, been using for 6 months or so. HA can send OTA updates to the Zigbee devices, with a click. No complaints, handy lil guy.
Hello, great video, but the following would be interesting... I have the SMLight SLZB-06M active in zigbee and bt mode, which is why the control panel of the device itself stops working in this mode, and in Home Assistant I have zigbee2mqtt ... Could several SMLight SLZB-06Ms also be configured to extend the zigbee and BT radio in my house? Thanks in advance, regards.
Personally, I would not recommend the P7 or P10 version as yet. The processor chip is the same, but the RAM, even with over 100 devices, is less than 30% used on the standard 06. It's tried and true. The M version is good for ZHA, but I would still use the standard TI chipset for Z2M for now. One thing I found is that a few unmanaged switches seem to not like the 100mbps ethernet chip used in the 06 versions. Some won't do the link speed negotiation. Majority work fine out of the box, but there are odd ones that give issues.
I currently have my ZB2MQTT setup in a RPI4 with ZigBee (ZB) USB dongle working great (IoTStack container based). As long as I can provide remote IP connectivity, can I use this device to extend my ZB network, or would it have to be a different ZB domain? In other words, my garage is 10 floors below, I can't reach it with ZB, but I have IP connectivity. Can I integrate this device into my existing ZB network and its devices get integrated into my existing ZB2MQTT, or would I need a second instance of ZB2MQTT?
You're right about the transmit power level. The antenna in the SLZB-06 is waaay better than the antennas built into the various other devices, so reducing its power is appropriate. Very good video! So much good info, thanks!

It uses POE to get power only, but it will use the normal zigbee network like any other light bulb or relay. So you may have two or three devices zigbee wired devices working as "stepping stones". But it's fine, I have this and a sonoff P dongle with a 20db antenna, and it's covering my entire home perfectly. It's just that my plan to wire this to the network did not work as I initially expected, but other than that it's been a blast.

You can power it like that but Zigbee doesn't backhaul over ethernet to routers. That's an option for Thread but that Matter stuff is kind of a mess still. You could use a directional antenna if it is far as these sticks have higher power and bigger antennas than say a smart plug would. Great to make the hop.
I don't get why you would use one of these. Isn't networking a separately powered Zigbee coordinator (rather than keeping it USB) just adding another point of failure? If the location of the co-ordinator is a problem, why not move the whole HA server centrally?
It's not tied to the HA box itself deep in a metal cabinet. Not sticking out the back of a server with an extension cable. Some may have issues with USB pass through if they use VMs. Some may use it with a multi node system and can't tie it to one host machine. Better placement in a house. Etc. Tons of reasons.
@@digiblurDIY Sure. Thanks for the vid - really appreciate all the effort. It would need to be put on a UPS (even if it's POE) though and a simple move of the server itself might solve Zigbee issues. Adding one of these means more potential failure IMO. Software and hardware and the whole thing could drop off the network. I'm not saying don't do it, the point I was kind of making is "if it aint broke don't fix it."
Definitely don't do them at the same time for sure. But yes the 06M can do Z2M but it is still marked as experimental, I'd go with the 06 (non M) if you plan or think about using Z2M.

A Zigbee-to-Ethernet bridge like the one shown in this video is better than a traditional Zigbee USB dongle in a cluster environment where the HomeAssistant VM could failover to a different physical host and automatically reconnect to the bridge. An alternative would be to physically move the Zigbee USB adapter to the new host whenever a failover occurs, but that obviously wouldn't be automatic.

I have seen that ethernet Zigbee devices can interface with both ZHA and Z2M. Can SLZB-06M interface with ZHA & Z2M?
Definitely don't do them at the same time for sure. But yes the 06M can do Z2M but it is still marked as experimental, I'd go with the 06 (non M) if you plan or think about using Z2M.
Have the same in ZigStar firmware, but opensource
Nice!
ihope if you can explain in video how to add multiple zigbee2mqtt in homeassistant please
You can one two for sure with ease in HAOS, if you do your own docker thing, it is pretty unlimited.
I was looking to get one that was double the price and then found this site. Thanks for the upload and link!
I do wish it was a little bit more compacted or shaped square, but that’s me nit picking!
yeah same here. It is an odd shape!
at 6:00 "Just a few counties that use cm out there" Only three countries in the world use the imperial system as their official system of measurement: the U.S., Liberia and Myanmar [source: Buchholz]. Some countries, like Canada, use the metric system as their official unit system but allow the use of the imperial system in many contexts [Source: McQuillan]. 😀
Yup, just a few.
Perfect tutorial, helped me to set up my Zigbee network. Thank you.
Glad it helped!
So cool! Thanks for sharing this info 👏🏻👏🏻
Great video Travis... I'm looking forward to your Z2M migration video, I'd hate to lose all I have. Currently running 2 Sonoff sticks - 1 as a router and the other as a coordinator with about 50 devices on my system.
Working on it this week I hope between some out of town family drama but I'll get there!
@@digiblurDIY Haing in there buddy
This looks like the ideal thing to finally replace my Smartthings hub and move all my remaining non-Zwave devices over to local control.
Damn.... more props to you for keeping Smartthings going that long! Yes this device works great for zigbee. Highly recommend it.
@@digiblurDIY Yeah... I bought into the ecosystem before Samsung acquired the company, and was happy with it then--but it's been time to move on for a while now. No props though, just laziness!
I started with SmartThings way back... like 2016 or 2017 maybe. Then accidentally installed this Home Assistant container thing. I tried the ST to HA bridge thing but gave up after a month and went all in on HA.
@@digiblurDIY According to my Amazon order history, looks like I bought the Smartthings hub in Nov 2015. It was very exciting at the time! Most everything has been moved off of it to direct local HA, save for two smart plugs and four sensors, all Zigbee. Like I said, laziness. I have the ST to HA bridge running with no problems, so it works for now--except of course if the Cloud or my Internet goes down. Your video might be the inspiration to make me finally get off of ST completely.
Do you think this would work if it was inside the ceiling rather than mounted to it? I don’t think my wife would love the look of it on our ceiling 😂
Yeah as long as your ceiling isn't metal and grounded.
Lol was thinking about that too
"There's just a few countries that use cm or there".... Ok!!! 😂🤣😂🤣
YUP! :)
Hahahahaha. I was gonna be like. Are you serious man. Lol.😂😂😂
Little bit of sarcasm there. ;)
Just the rest of the world
Hahaha. Ok good joke 😂
Awesome explanation.
Thanks!
What do you mean by "there's just a few countries that use centimeters out there"? :)
Anyways, informative detailed videos! Thank you!
Yes, exactly
You always having me spend my money... I do love my tubezb Poe but updating the firmware is difficult.
Tough to upgrade for sure if you are pretty much already there.
Absolutely! I know people have usb pass thru issue as well and it makes it easy. Definitely a must for a cluster setup.
I have Home Assistant running in a proxmox cluster and love that the VM can run in any Node without any change on the config.
@@oriolis08Are you also using a Zigbee-to-Ethernet bridge like the one in this video?
@@jeremyjedynak Yes, model SLZB-06M running Z2M without issues for five months aprox.
Yep
Yup
Cool, I think I'm going to order one.
The software running on the stick definitely makes it easy to setup and manage. So so nice.
Not trying to be a jerk. But it'd have been great if this were a 2 part video.... Showing SLZB-06 setup, and then the additional models later, perhaps even separately. Its kinda confusing with the jumping around different models.
I only had the one model. SLZB-06 is the one to get.
@@digiblurDIY Ahhhh ok. I must have misunderstood.
I am really now stuck trying to figure out the whole Zigbee2MQTT implementation. I swear... it's like, as soon as I install something, I have to find a tutorial on how to install 3 other things it depends on, and find instructions which have the same implementation on top of it.... It's rough out here with these 1st world problems. LOL
Thanks.
thanks man, always appreciate what you do. Your discord helped me with my whole home power monitor setup about a year ago. you suck! lol =)
Nice! Glad to help out and I see you listened about what to tell me. Ha!
somebody bought the whole stock already ..

Who else has one? Next digi live he should have a guest with one. Then connect it to a lightbulb at his house over Wireguard. It would be a killer demo. 😂
Yes! That would be awesome. I need to check out the speed of things. I'm sure it should be fine with 100ms or lower speeds.
"A few countries outthere using cm's" 🤣😂🤣
Glad you caught the sarcasm
@@digiblurDIY Hey, I'm danish, we're experts in it 😲 🙂

Lol.
LOL, cm, there's only your country dude that ain't
Lol... Indeed. Just a couple. They told us in the 80s it would be all done worldwide. Still waiting.
@@digiblurDIY p.s. love your content, really enjoy the no BS guides you do
YOU SUCK. Lol
Jk I love your videos and your help and all the guys at your discord.
Lol. Love it! I see someone following the video.
Places that use metric.... Everywhere other than the USA. 😉
Yup! They lied to us in school!
If you are old enough you can use both metric and imperial 😎 Which country can you order a 30cm pizza? 🤣🤣
Canadian thing?
Most of the world use metric system man......
Yup! They told us in the 80's, within 10-20 years it will be all metric. LOL
"Other world"? Oh! You mean the rest of humanity, even the "imperial's" are moving up to metric you now, ask any Brit!
I poke a bit of sarcasm as they told us years ago. Oh, by 2000 it's all going to be one system.
@@digiblurDIY who's they? Don't blame anyone, it's a change everyone has to push in its little.

If going to this device do you need to re sync all the devices. You showed pairing of the plug, but is that new or already in your network. I use zigbee2mqtt on a docker setup how might this affect my setup. Lasstly what is the range of the device?
What are you using on Z2M now for a coordinator?
Thanks.
