Johnny Mathis was one of my mom's favorites. She used to play his records from the fifties sometimes when I was a kid back in the seventies -- "Chances Are", "Misty", "Wonderful, Wonderful", "A Certain Smile", "When Sunny Gets Blue", "Wild Is The Wind"... When it comes to the music from the fifties, what we called "golden oldies" in the eighties and nineties, his voice delivered the gold and more. The Walker Brothers had a hit with "Make It Easy On Yourself" in 1965. I'm more familiar with that version of the song. But it was very common back then for artists, especially singers, to cover each others songs and to sing the hits of the day, even if only to fill up the flip side of their latest records. The difference, however, was how well they pulled it off and whether they put their hearts into the recording or not. Johnny Mathis never slacked. Song Sung Blue, the title of that album, is a Neil Diamond song. And Mathis is sporting side burns in the picture, so it looks to me like 1972 or 1973, maybe 1974. When you're ready for more from Johnny Mathis, check out "Chances Are", actually, check that one out before you're ready for more because that's a stone classic there. Better yet, listen to that one with your significant other. Yeah, really. Johnny Mathis recorded several song for the movies back when too, for example, "It's Not for Me to Say", from the 1957 movie Lizzie, and "Wild Is The Wind", from the 1957 film of the same name. Nina Simone and David Bowie both covered the song in later years to great effect. And his song "Misty", from 1959, while not recorded for a movie originally, became the namesake and centerpiece of the 1971 Clint Eastwood film Play Misty for Me, albeit instrumentals only. Definitely check that one out too. While I was confirming my recollections and filling in the blanks I stumbled across an interesting factoid. "Johnny's Greatest Hits album spent an unprecedented 490 consecutive weeks (nearly nine-and-a-half years) on the Billboard top 200 album charts, including three weeks at number one. It held the record for the most weeks on the top Billboard 200 albums in the US for 15 years, until Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon (March 1973) reached 491 weeks in October 1983." (Wikipedia)

Mathis is the third-best-selling artist of the 20th century, selling 360 million records worldwide. Just a few people are going to know this artist/song.
JM... My sisters Susan, Laurie and Kathleen all LOVE this video. They all said you are a great guy and real smart. They appreciate you mentioning her because they remember Mom singing along with Johnny and Mom was a great singer.
One of the great (most popular) performers, from a time...when there were soooo many...Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Barbra Streisand, Harry Belafonte, Diane Warwick, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Nat 'King' Cole, on and on and on, I won't say it...(does anyone today compare with these greats of the 60s (era)?). So many great songs from Johnny Mathis, JMBoy, seek em out..."Misty" is definetly another great one, + so many more, take 30 or 40 minutes to sample some more!
PAUSE.... Before I watch this reaction I know you will see why this was Mom's favorite song..... Hit Play and enjoy this incredible performance. Thanks again.
I have about twenty favorites from Johnny Mathis, but his rendition of Hoagy Carmichael's classic "Stardust" is the one I play most. Following that, I mostly play "Misty" "A Certain Smile" "Chances Are" "Wonderful Wonderful" and "It's Not For Me to Say" ✨He sings my heart💖 That said, "Maria" and "12th of Never" and "Love Story" are high on my list as well.👏
BTW... My Dad's favorite tune is Frank Sinatra - "Where Or When"... I believe you will like it too. I grew up in a house with great music in the perfect era.
I was born 1955 this is the music mom listen to still great I decided to listen to Pink Floyd Dad was a Blue grass person we were quite musically diverse
"Make It Easy On Yourself" - Songwriters: Burt F. Bacharach / Hal David Oh, breaking up Is so very hard to do If you really love him And there's nothing I can do Don't try to spare my feelings Just tell me that we're through And make it easy on yourself Make it easy on yourself 'Cause breaking up Is so very hard to do And if the way I hold you, can't compare to his caress No words of consolation will make me miss you less My darling, if this is goodbye, I just know I'm gonna cry So run to him before you start crying, too And make it easy on yourself Make it easy on yourself 'Cause breaking up Is so very hard to do Oh baby, it's so hard to do So make it easy on yourself Make it easy on yourself 'Cause breaking up Is so very hard to do
Do The Jerry Butler version of this song " Make It Easy On Yourself " .Astonishing .Talk about a deep voice.Only Barry White has a deeper voice than Jerry .
Johnny Mathis' great voice didn't need all the production and instrumental backing...I prefer his early tracks such as "Chances Are", "The Twelfth of Never", "Wonderful, Wonderful", "It's Not For Me To Say"...even his Christmas songs such as "Winter Wonderland" were masterpieces...
“Chances Are” is one of my all time favorite songs by anyone. Please don’t miss reacting to that song by Johnny Mathis! He’s unbelievably talented.

Chances Are
Hal David Lyrics, Burt Bacharach arrangements with full orchestra, Johnny Mathis voice, JBL Headphones..... A perfect match.
His was the first album I ever bought when I was 14. I love his song,
When Sunny Gets Blue.

The way Johnny Mathis does his "Runs" is similar to Bobby Hatfield/Righteous Brothers. Both are Masters at the style.
Janet and I say Johnny doing.... "Stardust" will blow you away.
oh I was so so young but I remember Johnny Mathis !! ♥

This is a good cover. I've always loved Johnny Mathis. Dionne Warwick & Jerry Butler recorded this years earlier. All great.

Oh, breaking up
Is so very hard to do
If you really love him
And there's nothing I can do
Don't try to spare my feelings
Just tell me that we're through
And make it easy on yourself
Make it easy on yourself
'Cause breaking up
Is so very hard to do
And if the way I hold you, can't compare to his caress
No words of consolation will make me miss you less
My darling, if this is goodbye, I just know I'm gonna cry
So run to him before you start crying, too
And make it easy on yourself
Make it easy on yourself
'Cause breaking up
Is so very hard to do
Oh baby, it's so hard to do
So make it easy on yourself
Make it easy on yourself
'Cause breaking up
Is so very hard to do

Hello. Good morning. Can you please react to the song called "I Got Love by Johnny Mathis. Thanks
Very good but not as good as the walker brothers version
Johnny could sing the phone book and it would sound great, but the original by The Walker Brothers is still the best version of this song.
