    Finally upgraded to the 16-80 from the 18-55 after years of using it. the 16-80 is better in every way for a landscape photographer. the extra stops of image stabilisation and weather resistance really put this lens in a different league for outdoor photography. Obviously if you are shooting low light or indoors this lens isn't as good as the 18-55 but if you do this sort of photography occasionally then it is probably more viable to just keep a fast prime for those situations. Hope this helps.

    •  Год назад

      You are right. The 16-80 for landscape is miles better!

    Considering the 16-80 as an upgrade from the 18-55. The closer focusing plus extended OIS stop range seem attractive. The extra reach to 80 mm is also something I find necessary.

    •  2 года назад +1

      If you're mostly into photography than, hell yeah all 3 of those are valid points not to mention the weather resistance! But if you are filming more I'd say rent it for a day or two before purchasing and try it out if you can! 😉

    I shot like 20+ videos using the 18-55. Depending on your use case and your style, you’ll find what you need. The 18-55 is good if you have any situation where you shoot in low light conditions. The F4 I’ve seen in some videos is ok but could get grainy. If your shoot only during daytime, the versatility of the 16-80 is unmatched. I wish at times I had the 16-80 to start out but it’s all kind of experimentation. I liked your video and subscribed to your channel!

      Thank you so much! Your kind words and subscription is very much appreciated! 😃🤜🤛 I had the 16-80 first and I have to say I never loved that lens for a long time! As you said f4 couldn't deal with low light and I neved liked the "gopro" look at 16mm. Now I am in the rediscovery phase and starting to appreciate it actually! I am making a video at the moment comparing them for video only as I am mostly into filming!

    I have the FujiFilm 16mm-80mm. It’s a bit hefty for my taste (I like to keep my gear small and light) but otherwise I love it. I don’t ever zoom mid shot, so the complaints I’ve heard there are not an issue for me. Also, from what I’ve read, OIS is automatically shut off with this lens when a tripod is detected. I do like being able to see f-stop indications on the lens, but I’m sure I could easily adjust!
    Both seem like great quality lenses, but the 16-80 is likely the only zoom I’ll ever want. Thanks for an excellent review!

    I personally "upgraded" from 16-80 to the 18-55. The lens is much smaller, lighter, faster, doesn't lose focus in video while zooming and just feels more balanced, it's also much nicer to bring or when travelling, you definitely feel the size difference. One thing to stress is F4 is full frame equivalent to F6, on the iPhone you now have F6.2 equiv, so the 16-80 is marginally better than an iPhone for many types of photography (e.g. indoors, low light, casual), for a comparatively much heavier lens than other options.
    Being able to get to F2.8 at 18mm on the 18-55 is literally double the light coming into the lens, it makes the difference between a blurry or noisy image in a restaurant, vs a really nice one. Sure 16mm is noticeably wider, but at the expense of flatter (and in my opinion cheaper) looking images and the extra 25mm on the zoom end really isn't much, it won't make it much more useful for sports or wildlife and with F4 it has limited portrait use (if you even want to be this far away at 80mm). For me, the 18-55 is a clear winner and I sold my 16-80.

    • @DigiDriftZone
      @DigiDriftZone Год назад

      @@gettriggered8404 I guess it depends on what you're going to do with it. If you're only taking photos of scenery in good light and you don't mind travelling heavy, the 16-80 will be great. If you ever want to do something like portraits, indoors, low light, videography (the 16-80 loses focus while zooming), you want your gear to be small/light, you like more foreground/background separation and you like shooting at lower apertures, the 18-55 wins hands down.
      Personally I think the 16-80 is one of the worst Fuji lenses. Even for studio work with high aperture, you try to put it on a tripod and you get zoom creep, awful awful lens in my humble opinion.

      “I have Fujifilm XT4 with the kit lens 18-55 and I am experiencing 2 key issues
      1-autofocus is really bad (vs my Sony A74) and misses the key object most of time. However most of the time I am taking the photos in fairly good light
      2- The photos are not sharp enough and even my phone got better details

    • @DigiDriftZone
      @DigiDriftZone Год назад

      @@gettriggered8404 Maybe he has a bad copy? - Sony autofocus is much better than Fuji in general, but there is little difference in focusing between the 18-55 and 16-80.
      The 18-55 is a very sharp lens and quite famous for being one of the best kit lenses on any system. With that said, yes, the 16-55 is a much better lens, but also much more expensive, much heavier and lacks OIS. You can find comparisons online and the 16-55 is sharper at some focal lengths at F4, but the 18-55 isn't far behind. Obviously you don't have F2.8 at 55mm and you don't have 16mm on the kit lens.

    I came across a used XF16-80mm and am pondering getting it. I already have the XF18-55mm which I think is the best "kit lens" from any camera manufacturer. If only it has extra reach and weather sealing, I wouldn't be shopping around for another lens.
    In your video, the defocusing that seems to occur with the 16-80 while zooming - I think that's a deal-breaker for my purposes. If that was as smooth as the 18-55, that may have tipped the scales. Thank you for helping in the decision making process (which in turn saves some $$$). 😀

      @ Yeah! I think what had happened is I started out thinking only about clarity and leightweight, so went for a T-30 and two primes. Then I wanted flexibility, so added the 18-55 but found it fiddly. The next clear upgrade equivalent was a X-T4 with the 16-55 and I hope I get years of use from that combo (I still have two primes and the 18-55 as backup). But interesting how I evolved from wanting to 'min max' to wanting more emphasis on reliability and not swapping lenses a lot or losing track of aperture.

    Hey nice video, I am a beginner to fuji system and bought Fuji Xt200. To be honest, not really happy with the 15-45mm kit lens hence thinking of getting an all round lens. I was not able to decide between 18-55mm and 16-80mm but then came across your video. My main focus is to learn photography and the 16-80mm focal length range is attracting me. Will it be a good photography only lens even on low light?

    •  2 года назад +1

      Hey! Thanks for checking out my video! Xt200 is a great camera welcome in the fuji shooter's family! If you are going to use the camera for photography than 16-80 is your lens for sure and yes it can deal with low light no problem! But if you're into filming I'd go with the 18-55 (it's significantly cheaper too).

      @ Thanks a lot for responding. I have one more question, if I throw the 18-135mm among these 2 lenes would you pick it over 16-80 and 18-55 for photography?

    •  2 года назад +1

      I haven't tried that lens yet but it looks like a very good all-rounder with a great range and there is solid image stabilisation built into that lens! I would probably give that a go ovet the 16-80 especially if you can get it cheaper! I was never impressed with the 16-80's wider end I mean an f4 apature at 16mm just doesn't really cut it.

    • @randkjournal
      @randkjournal 2 года назад

      Yes - welcome to the Fuji family. That X-T200 was my "gateway" to the Fuji family. I still have it and have added the X-S10 as well.
      I have both kit lenses - the XC15-45 and the XF18-55. Thanks to @Krisztián Cs.' video, I am no longer considering purchasing the XF16-80. The defocus-while-zooming did it in for me. The XF18-55 is smooth and consistent as you zoom and that does not seem to be the case with the XF16-80 - and this does not bode well for videos.
      As for the XC15-45, I find it to be an underrated lens. Between the X-T200 and X-S10, I find It performs better with the latter (probably because of the XTRANS-4 sensor on the X-S10 vs the Bayer sensor on the X-T200. My favourite feature on the XC15-45 - the lens "remembers" the last focal length used even after powering it off.

    Thank you for this comparison! Do you think 18-55 goes well with a X-Tx body? How big is 16-80 really? Is it smaller than equivalent dslr lens?
    I'm selling my kit to move to Fuji mainly for weight but I'm probably getting a used X-Tx body since I'm finding them cheaper than the smaller bodies. Completely torn over the 18-55 and 16-80 though. I shoot photos only (when travelling, for landscapes and people) and mostly had a one-lens setup in the range of 18-55. I'm interested in the 16-80 reach since I never had one with that much zoom, but goes against my whole intention to cut weight. Dilemma!

    Hi I liked you short but very practical comparison video. For traveling on my xe4, to cover full focal range which combination do you prefer? 1) 18-55 and 70-300 or 16-80 and 70-300? 16-80 is cover more but here you selected 18-55 for better performance! If I add 10-24 to 18-55 and 70-300, still I couldn’t cover between and 70mm. Please advise. Thank you

    •  2 года назад +1

      I think it depends on what you are into, if you are mostly into photography I'd say go with the 16-80 but if it's filmmaking you'd like to do than definitely go with the 18-55! The 18-55 has an f2.8 apature at 18mm so it can handle low light much much better and it has a better focusing mechanism than the 16-80's for videos. I don't think you miss much between 55 and 70mm to be honest. A 35mm. F1ish manual lens would be5 a great addition to both options! 😀

    • @mrz1342
      @mrz1342 2 года назад +1

      @ for photography of course. I think the advantage of 16 over 18 is very important for landscape photography (35mm equ. 24 vs 28!) although 2.8 has one stop faster aperture on 18-55 for low light situation specially on its version 2 as well as better af system. On the other side still matching with 70mm (on 70-300) 80mm is much better than 55 although, again 18-55 ii and 70-300 are both compact and so light for traveling and daily usage. Maybe if I chose 18-55, just needs to add an ultra wide angle to my gear, around 10 or 12 or 14! Any recommendation?

    Planning to buy an XS10, but confused about these 2 kit lens..
    My options are 18 55 and an xc 35 or the 16 80. Since these 2 would cost almost the same.
    Its mostly photos, seldom use it for videos. But low light capability is important. at the wide end which is moslty used for Landscape... Lower aperture is usually used. So does f 2.8 really matter?
    Also how wide is 16mm compared to 18?
    For portraits i believe the 80mil at f4 makes better sense. Right?
    Considering these which option do you suggest?

      Hey! I understand your dilemma it's a tricky one for sure! 16 is a good bit wider than 18 yes and 80mm at f4 is great for portraits. However 18mm f2.8 is much much better at low light for example you couldn't shoot handheld when lights aren't great with the 16-80 but you can at f2.8. Also the 35 f2 lens is a great prime you would miss. I would say you would get a much better walue for your money with the 18-55 and the xc35 but you may need some wider lens further down the road. If you like to shoot wide open than forget about the 16-80 otherwise both kits are great you won't be disappointed either way! Good luck 👍

      But xs10 has IBIS which should give me atleast a 5 stop advantage right. I know, i am much confused.
      Thank you for the support.

      @@arjungoodwill12 they advertise up to 6 stop of stabilisation (that's with the best lens) which you will get with the 16-80 I think you'll have 5.5 with the 18-55 in reality the difference between the two isn't noticeable. Ibis is great for photos for sure! The other thing is ony the 18-55 has a OIS switch on the lens itself which will deactivate ibis altogether now that's a great feature for videos but you are mostly into photography so weather sealing on the 16-80 may be more important to you. Just to further confuse you haha 😅

      Yeah man, whether sealing is a plus, but not with xs10 though.
      But somehow i feel i am aligned more towards the 16 80, basically after this conversation with you. Still not even 70% sure 😭😭😭
      How is the 35mm for portraits? I mnt the xc version!

      @@arjungoodwill12 I think the 35mm is one of the best all-rounder focal length and the f2 apature is wide enough for portraits it would give you a very nice background separation. 😀

    16-80mm Is it suitable for night use? Is it fast enough? 🤠

    •  3 года назад

      Hey! It's not too bad for stills at night but for video you would need to put it on a trypod or gimball for smoother movement plus you'd need to stick to 16mm(or close) while recording!

    Jó lett köszönjük :) Nehét döntés ez így is ha az ember utazós obit keres, mert a 18-55 jóval kisebb.

      Köszi szépen 😀! Mind a kettő nagyon jó én többet videózok és ahoz a 18-55 et jobban szeretem! Kissebb sokkal igen
