***UPDATE*** Asus just let me know there some corrections to the specs as follows: The 4050 comes with Windows 11 Home and 4060 with Windows 11 Pro. Also, the AMD integrated graphics on the 4060 configuration were wrong, it should also be 890M.
Paying an extra to have a 3050 or 4050 on a laptop (energy, price bump, thickness) is nonsense, specially having a 60 Hz panel. The 890M is more than enough for personal video editing, some gaming and drive 120 Hz panels; if you want a bump (price, thickness, energy consumption) then go directly to the 4060/4070. Yeah I'm eyeing this for my next upgrade for my solidworks workhorse as I'm also taking a lot of notes, doing sketches, brainstorming, photoshopping etc... And to keep everything in one package is crazy nice. I've been working with 60 hz drawing monitors for ten years and am not the slightest bothered by it being a 60 hz screen. This looks like the perfect blend of a powerful CAD machine and a versatile tablet with pen support in a very attractive lightweight package.
It's unfortunate. But fully managable. People pretend now like 60 hz is unusable, which is odd. It is only 5-ish years since 60 hz was still the mainstream refreshrate for anything not gaming related. Looking at professional, color accurate monitors, all but a few of the most high end last year even were 60 hz. Would I have loved at least 90 hz? Preferably 120 hz? Yes indeed. It looks and sounds quite good, but I'm not 100% sure what segment of the creator market it's aiming at. Power users are much more likely to get a G14 with an RTX4070, while the 4060 variant of the G14 is, as you pointed out in this review, actually cheaper. This is the evolution of the Flow X13, except they changed it over to the ProArt line. I suppose they realized more creators than gamers were buying the 13". The branding doesn't matter, though, it's the same product w/ updated internals.
Everything looks good but 60Hz in 2024 for that price is a real bummer. 120Hz would have seriously made it a better product. Great video though. Keep it up!
I have a feeling that they went with 60Hz for battery life reasons. Battery life was not stellar with 60Hz, imagine the battery life hit with 120Hz or even 90Hz.
@@andrewmarcdavid That could have been a very valid point. What do you think the issue is with the battery? The display is not as efficient or is it the Chipset optimisations related?
I don't really think its the chipset because the Asus Zenbook S 16 was pretty good out the gate in terms of efficiency. I think it has to do with a smaller chassis, having an RTX 4050 in there and having fans to cool things down does use more power. Having an OLED display is never kind to battery life that is for sure as well.
@@andrewmarcdavid I agree. Just checked and looking at the TDP designs of both these notebooks, S16 is configured for a 28W max while the ProArt can have a maximum of 115W TDP. Even the CPU alone in ProArt can reach 65W TDP so I think that might be it.
hey Andrew, Im interested in this as a dev laptop since a lot of non-dGpu laptops are ultra thin and light ones that lack CPU or battery life or overall quality. Was the battery test done on balanced profile or eco? I will mostly have the dGPU disabled. Also, would you suggest the G14 or PX13? G14 is 50 bucks cheaper here, and has an anti reflective 120hz display iirc
@@andrewmarcdavid Thanks, so G14 or PX13 in your opinion? 2-in-1 is cool for rare scenarios, but I don't care much about that or the dGPU. Mostly comfort, touchpad, heat, battery and cpu.
I received my ProArt P16 with a 4060 and 32 gigs of ram for 1899 it's the best valued laptop on the market. The only minus is the 60 htz, but the 4k oled is stunning, as is every aspect of this laptop. You can also run these on whisper mode and the AMD with the integraded graphics will still run better than the S16 and the battery life is very good. I ran the cinebench 2024 and got just over 1100 so probaby better due to better thermals.
@hasandeniz6612 Not for 2024 version it's higher than the Mac Book Pro M3 and ultra 9 from Intel it's over 200 points higher than previous amd 8840 hs. That's a 20 percent gain.
i'm really tempted by this device but its such a shame about the 60hz. 120 or even 09 and i wouldn't hesitate at all. that said, i think the zephyrus x13 would have been an even more interesting comparison, since it is also a 13" convertible with dgpu. its my second alternative but i think i'll wait for a refresh. very good and comprehensive review all in all. when it comes to doing a sound comparison i would personally find it easier to contrast the two if you play them at the same time and mute one and then the other so it jumps between the same portion of the song.
Great job in reviewing this device. I was and still intending to buy it but I have to watch reviews so I can be sure it fits my usage. And this review has helped me so much. So thanks a lot.👏🏻
Right now in Best Buy there's a G14 4070 sale that is 100usd cheaper than the PX13, would you consider to better grab the sale or just go with the PX13 for the CPU. I work in design, 3D modeling and rendering but I also game from time to time.
I had that machine on my mind as well, the only thing I'm losing is pen support which is a biggie for me, I need a pen support machine+ semi intense video editing (4k 60fps) but nothing crazy about effects literally only cropping 5 mins videos, this fullfiled all those but damn man those 60 hz kills my libido.
I woul say pull the trigger on the g14 if pen support is not an issue for you, you only Lossing like 2 hours of battery life but gaining a 120hz oled plus a better gpu at a better price.
@@radlink14 I went ahead and purchased the PX13, since most of rendering engines are CPU based. The GPU works great and you'll only miss it if you're serious about gaming, but for me as a casual gamer and more of a Designer, the PX13 covers all my needs. Also, I know that the 60hz display is a downside, but most of my work is done using a second monitor.
Currently I am considering the proart p16 as my next laptop and I am planning to buy one soon. Could you advise me if that's a good choice compared to other available laptop? I like the design of the proart p16 better than g series but I am not sure if there's problems that might be a deal breaker.
My desktop PC was running 32gb of Ram with a Ryzen 7950x and RTX4070. Working on 2 RAW images on photoshop + Capture one open in the background. As soon as I run an AI process on the image photoshop stops responding and I get out of memory message. I've upgraded to 96gb of ram and all is good. Selling us 32gb laptops at those prices and thinking its okay to market it to "creators" is total BS. And I am just talking about editing images, not even Resolve. Forget about editing 4k videos with heavy grading with that amount of ram or even 1080 with noise reduction.
Good video sound, good video colors, slightly pixelated. Two questions: * Can it be charged with USB C? * Does the discrete GPU influence the battery life when using Office tools?
I think it can be charged through usb-c, (I was looking in bestbuy and Asus rep said it could butit won't reach 200w and it'll be slow to charge, "not optimal performance" as for the office thing idk but I imagine it would as I think it defaults to the nvidia gpu if more compute stuff is needed graphically (best buy again, idk tho just sharing research) lmk if you actually get an answer
Yes, it can be charged via USB-C but you will get a message that it will be a slower charge but it does charge nonetheless. As for the GPU, it does drain the battery more than integrated graphics.
@sartonnis The Flow x13 was even more money just to get 32 GB of RAM. I spent just $1100, nearly half the price of a comparable Asus device with 32 GB of RAM, on a tablet with 32 GB but an "older" Ryzen 8845 HS and no dGPU. For the price we're paying, 32 GB should be standard.
I have learned that the ASUS Vivobook S 16 is also coming out with this exact chip and 32 GB ram, the model is M5606WA. I haven't seen any prices for it but presumably cheaper than the zenbook and a little thicker so better at dissipating heat so maybe even potentially a bit more performance in terms of wattage. It would be good to see you review it if you can get your hands on it.
Hey @andrewmarcdavid, possible to teardown the hinges? Asking since the PX13 actually deactivates the keyboard if the screen is rotated > 180°. I used my old Flow X13 as a keyboard with connected external displays and that doesn't seam to be possible any more. Already asked ASUS for a fix but they told me it just gets deactivated and it's pretty unlikely there will be a fix any time (soon). So I'm thinking about just disconnecting the sensors? Really frustrated, love this device but totally need to able to use it as a standalone keyword with display "removed".
Thanks for this review but would you assume it would be worth it to upgrade all the way to the 4070 looking at the comparison you made with the Dell? Still haven't seen many reviews of the ProArt 4070 version. I ordered the 4070 version but was very hesitant given the 4060 is the other option here in my region. If some proper benchmarks between the two are available soon I'm considering downgrading my order if the difference is minor.
@@andrewmarcdavid Received it and it indeed runs very hot and the fans are constantly running at minimum 4500 RPM when having a second monitor plugged in (i.e. using the GPU). The laptop works great but I will need to figure out if I can live with the constant fan noise when doing work via the second monitor since whisper mode isn't a good option for performance at that point).
i want an update to the ROG Flox X series. Imagine a Flow X16 with the same processor, basically this same laptop but more features. 99Whr battery, 240hz oled screen with 99%+ in all colour gamut tests & 0.1ms response time, upgradeable ram & even option for external gpu is needed
I was hoping the battery life would be closer to the Snapdragon X Elite processors of efficiency. At least while using the APU. I love a lot of things about this unit, but the lack of 90+ hz screen and micro sd instead of regular SD makes me wonder what they were really going for. Perhaps I'll wait for a sale to scoop this up.
Display is the greatest concern for me, My eyes are Ultra sensitive to the OLED displays, still looking forward to Pro art laptops with mini LED and Nano Displays.
@scosee2u Unfortunately, this seems to be the trend we're moving to. Though Asus does have a DC dimming option in software on their OLED displays, at the cost of color accuracy.

Any information on if it takes 100W USB PD? And GPU behavior on it. Flow X13 doesn't take >100W USB PD if it's not the Asus charger, goes down to 65W iirc And Zephyrus G14 (both 2024/3) takes 100W but cripples the GPU iirc
@@samvieten_official It nothing else but a "it's nice and convenient"-factor. I like it too. But is it important. No. It is useless. But it is nice. Feels more premium. im having a hard time picking between this and the p16. i had a 13 inch spectre in 16:9 that felt perfect. going to 16:10 you lose a little horizontal screen, and for a creator laptop thats a bit of an issue. on the other hand 16 inches just seems too much to lug around on the go. a 14 inch would be perfect. maybe next year
@ebeemer86 16 : 9 is too cramped for a tablet and 16 : 10 is better overall for productivity. I'd rather have the black bars when watching videos than have bigger bezels all the time.
Was looking forward to this but the 60hz, 2230 ssd, high price for lack of hardware, and etc....idk most things look spectacular but idk im on the fence as i wanna upgrade from my spectre ive had for like 5 years (same size)
@@andrewmarcdavid Which leaves 100w for an extremely low watt CPU and iGPU, it doesn't feel like ASUS fully thought this through especially paired with the 60hz screen, just weird.
Really weird move on Asus' end to make 4050 an option. It's barely better than the integrated 890M which is reported to be 3050 levels. I guess it's a nice problem to have.
Why is everyone so concerned about 60hz?? You should know this is not for gaming so motion is not the priority. This is for artwork and battery power must be compromise.
Sufficient Cons for me: 1. Pen without charging similar to Wacom (Asus have ProArt portable display with this technology, but not used in laptops...) 2. No 120hz 3. Where is GaN charger with Type-c? Re Folks complaining about 60hz: Don't higher refresh screens sacrifice color accuracy? My BenQ only runs at 60hz but has extremely high color accuracy.
Here’s the thing, this is going to go head to head with the Dell XPS line. For some reason Dell refuses to use AMD, so the ONLY thing that sets them apart, functionally is the Haptic feedback and spec’s. ASUS wins but why no haptic feedback? Just for that function wheel? I hate to tell you, almost all true creatives are gonna have their own wheel that’s more accurate. I like this machine but the three main flaws to me is the size, it should be a 14” with at least 600nits, it should have a Wacom pen functionality, and haptic glass touchpad. I want to love this, but it still doesn’t pull me away from the overpriced Mac.
This being 60hz just pisses me off, it's over $1500. Having felt and seen it in person, the build quality is superb. Such a shame, I'd really have bought it otherwise.
Yikes... feeding the 4050 3x as much power as the Dell and only getting like.. +24% gpu performance? That really sucks. Most of those extra 65W just went into making the thing a space heater rather than doing work :
An ultrportable desktop replacement laptop with a tiny battery and huge proprietary power brick... Oxymoron? Lol... Nice video btw, just an "interesting" product that is perhaps a tad impractical and niche.
13" laptops are such a gimmick, I have a X13 Thinkpad and barely use it because it's so hard to be productive on a 13" display. 14" is the smallest size I'd go for in a laptop.

This is the evolution of the Flow X13, except they changed it over to the ProArt line. I suppose they realized more creators than gamers were buying the 13". The branding doesn't matter, though, it's the same product w/ updated internals.
man when you suddenly added a clip of yourself peeling that wrap on track pad 💀💀
60hz screen disqualifies this for me immediately, sad
60hz for creator is enough this laptop not gaming
@@imansirghani1102 Yes, but it's over $1,500... at that price point over 60hz should be a given
Everything looks good but 60Hz in 2024 for that price is a real bummer.
@@andrewmarcdavid make it dynamic like what Surfaces from Ms have done for a while.
hey Andrew, Im interested in this as a dev laptop since a lot of non-dGpu laptops are ultra thin and light ones that lack CPU or battery life or overall quality. Was the battery test done on balanced profile or eco? I will mostly have the dGPU disabled. Also, would you suggest the G14 or PX13? G14 is 50 bucks cheaper here, and has an anti reflective 120hz display iirc
The battery was done in balanced mode.
I have the P16 coming in for review. Stay tuned.
wow, a little low cinebench multicore perf. for a creator dont you think?
What did you go with?
@@radlink14 I went ahead and purchased the PX13, since most of rendering engines are CPU based. The GPU works great and you'll only miss it if you're serious about gaming, but for me as a casual gamer and more of a Designer, the PX13 covers all my needs. Also, I know that the 60hz display is a downside, but most of my work is done using a second monitor.
@@destrockablewhat about fan noise? Does it bother you especially on second monitor pluggedin?
Currently I am considering the proart p16 as my next laptop and I am planning to buy one soon. Could you advise me if that's a good choice compared to other available laptop? I like the design of the proart p16 better than g series but I am not sure if there's problems that might be a deal breaker.
Hi, thanks for your review. Have you tried any linux distro on PX13? if not can you try a live usb? i'm interested in dual boot with windows 11
Is the refresh rate was better, i would buy in a heartbeat
My desktop PC was running 32gb of Ram with a Ryzen 7950x and RTX4070. Working on 2 RAW images on photoshop + Capture one open in the background. As soon as I run an AI process on the image photoshop stops responding and I get out of memory message. I've upgraded to 96gb of ram and all is good. Selling us 32gb laptops at those prices and thinking its okay to market it to "creators" is total BS. And I am just talking about editing images, not even Resolve. Forget about editing 4k videos with heavy grading with that amount of ram or even 1080 with noise reduction.
the new g16 zephyrus will have this chip. Do you think itll be stronger than the ultra 9 counterpart?
Does this laptop also come with an 'LED/LCD' version?
Good video sound, good video colors, slightly pixelated. Two questions:
* Can it be charged with USB C?
* Does the discrete GPU influence the battery life when using Office tools?
I think it can be charged through usb-c, (I was looking in bestbuy and Asus rep said it could butit won't reach 200w and it'll be slow to charge, "not optimal performance" as for the office thing idk but I imagine it would as I think it defaults to the nvidia gpu if more compute stuff is needed graphically (best buy again, idk tho just sharing research) lmk if you actually get an answer
* was looking online and was answered by Asus
Yes, it can be charged via USB-C but you will get a message that it will be a slower charge but it does charge nonetheless. As for the GPU, it does drain the battery more than integrated graphics.
Love the design. Shame about the 60hz display though. If anything, it's making me hopeful for next year's Flow X13.
Hopefully soon.
It's hard to say, as I don't have the unit with the 4070. I would expect better gpu performance but my concern will be the heat generated.
Yeah same, but as per rumours Asus ain't gonna update flow X16 this year😢
$1,700 and only 60Hz refresh rate?
Ikr, if it even had a 90 hz screen, I'd argue that it's fine for its target audience, but why 60 hz in 2024!?
I was hoping the battery life would be closer to the Snapdragon X Elite processors of efficiency. At least while using the APU. I love a lot of things about this unit, but the lack of 90+ hz screen and micro sd instead of regular SD makes me wonder what they were really going for. Perhaps I'll wait for a sale to scoop this up.
Given the specs, the $1,700 is not that bad and one of the best battery life on X86 platform! Definitely better value than Dell XPS 13.
Display is the greatest concern for me,
My eyes are Ultra sensitive to the OLED displays, still looking forward to Pro art laptops with mini LED and Nano Displays.
I think I might have a similar issue with OLED, how does it affect your eyes?
@scosee2u Unfortunately, this seems to be the trend we're moving to. Though Asus does have a DC dimming option in software on their OLED displays, at the cost of color accuracy.
Does this thing have eco mode which completely disables the discreet GPU if needed?
It has a Whisper Mode which does limit the GPU power which will save some battery life.
@@andrewmarcdavid Thanks Andrew! Great professional review as always!
I think we should start demanding for 4tb SSD support, especially at these prices
Camera was excellent.
Would you recommend 14" or 16" 2 in 1 for note-taking in tablet mode?
I find the 16-in 2-in-1 generally too heavy for tablet use. I would lean towards 14-in.
@@andrewmarcdavid Thanks, that what I'll get then

Not yet, we have to wait for Lunar Lake.
Hello Andrew. I like the analysis you make. Is it possible to bring the Asus Vivobook S 14 with AMD AI 9? Thanks
theres a vivobook w hx370 already, should be cheaper

Yes there already is but it doesn't fold, it's called the Proart 16

@andrewmarcdavid How good is the audio DAC in this laptop, I mean the audio quality when using the headphone jack?
The G14 is just flat out better for the price. If you dont plan on touchscreen get that.
G14/G16 speakers still the best of Asus
Great review grandpa ! I waiting for this a long time. I wish this include a size comparison vs ipad pro 12.9 with magic keyboard !
Any information on if it takes 100W USB PD? And GPU behavior on it.
Flow X13 doesn't take >100W USB PD if it's not the Asus charger, goes down to 65W iirc
And Zephyrus G14 (both 2024/3) takes 100W but cripples the GPU iirc
You are correct. Opening a laptop with one hand is Useless test of the day.

thats the most important test for quality for me :D
Yeah lol some people act like opening a laptop with w hands would end their life or something
I can tell, it's important for me. Don't know why, but it is.
@@samvieten_official It nothing else but a "it's nice and convenient"-factor. I like it too. But is it important. No. It is useless. But it is nice. Feels more premium. The prices are so different... here both the S16 and PX13 (and probably all) are much more expensive. PX starting at 2199€ (2377$) - Europe.

@@radlink14 I ended up going with neither. I decided I didnt need the dedicated GPU. Hope this helps you in your search! If you have a local bestbuy go and look at laptops there it helped me decide.
Are you going to test the Asus TUF Gaming A14 2024 with the AMD Risen AI 9 HX 370. As this seems to be an interesting machine with the RTX 460 and 2 x full sized SSD slots.
Planning on it
TUF A14 2024 will not have the Ryzen 9 AI HX 370, but the A16 will.
im having a hard time picking between this and the p16. i had a 13 inch spectre in 16:9 that felt perfect. going to 16:10 you lose a little horizontal screen, and for a creator laptop thats a bit of an issue. on the other hand 16 inches just seems too much to lug around on the go. a 14 inch would be perfect. maybe next year
@ebeemer86 16 : 9 is too cramped for a tablet and 16 : 10 is better overall for productivity. I'd rather have the black bars when watching videos than have bigger bezels all the time.

Wonder how much would this cost if sold without that nvidia dGPU? It would probably allow for 2280 SSD too.
Good point

90hz Should be a must
Update on the G14: the 4070 version has dropped to 1599
Would you recommend that one or the PX13?
@@destrockableI’m still doing my own research
Really weird move on Asus' end to make 4050 an option. It's barely better than the integrated 890M which is reported to be 3050 levels. I guess it's a nice problem to have.
I would say about double the results of the integrated 890M graphics.
Why is everyone so concerned about 60hz??
You should know this is not for gaming so motion is not the priority. This is for artwork and battery power must be compromise.
should be 14 inch screen with 120hz refresh
Sufficient Cons for me:
1. Pen without charging similar to Wacom (Asus have ProArt portable display with this technology, but not used in laptops...)
2. No 120hz
3. Where is GaN charger with Type-c? (similar to Omen Transcend 14 and Samsung Galaxy Book)
Cons, less sufficient for me:
4. No m.2 2280 or 4-8tb options
5. No lpcamm2 or 64Gb option
6. No wwan module
The hell do you need 4 - 8 tb for? 4k video?

Yes it’s a problem
@@andrewmarcdavid They're making it clap! 😂
Oof yeah the G14 proves that feeding 90W to a 4050 is a foolish idea
An ultrportable desktop replacement laptop with a tiny battery and huge proprietary power brick... Oxymoron? Lol... Nice video btw, just an "interesting" product that is perhaps a tad impractical and niche.
13" laptops are such a gimmick, I have a X13 Thinkpad and barely use it because it's so hard to be productive on a 13" display. 14" is the smallest size I'd go for in a laptop.
I think a lot of people feel that way. I also think there is a segment that wants ultimate portability. So its a tradeoff.
@@andrewmarcdavid I can see that and the iPad would fill that niche perfectly if iPadOS weren't .. well iPadOS.
60 hz = no brainer
It's a shame this laptop doesn't take advantage of the dedicated graphics card by having only a 60 hz display.
My guess is they went with 60 Hz because battery would be even worse with 90 or 120 Hz .
