    This film is the compiled version of the Gateway to the Arctic series we released last winter. Over the years we've found re-uploading the expedition series' as one mega video helps reach a larger audience and is more searchable than individual chapters. Hope y'all enjoy...again :)

    This was easily one of our generation's finest wilderness trip documentaries. Anyone who sees this will understand the cultural significance of canoe tripping in Canada.

    • @on_the_off_beat
      @on_the_off_beat 19 дней назад

      In the east. In western Canada I've run across plenty of Canadians who are just as hopeless in a canoe as most Americans. It's a Canadian Shield thing, I would say. Or more like *proximity* to the Canadian shield, since most residents of Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba live in the more productive kinder parts of their provinces which are, of course, not Canadian Shield.
      No doubt in my mind that the Canadian Shield is the finest canoe-tripping country in the world.

    • @CanadianSledDog
      @CanadianSledDog 19 дней назад

      @on_the_off_beat that's unfortunately true and that's why I moved back east, it's ironic how many people go west for wilderness because there is more out east, just less road access, which is what makes it wilderness lol.

    This seemed like a wonderful, epic, hard, rewarding, journey - putting you and the gear to the test. But, what makes this piece realy interesting is, that none of you 4 wants to stand out, but you all shine for yourselves. And, also, you do not do that sponsor-thing like "look at that excavator we brought with us from suchAndsuch and it realy helped us a lot"....
    Thanks from a viewer, that spends a lot of time here around and watched almost all of the 4-38 hour. Epic, can not drill it down to something other than epic.

    I just finished watching the original Quebec/Labrador trip to Nain and then this video and the contrast between the two groups could not be more stark.
    The original group was magical. You guys pounded through absolutely horrific conditions and always kept your spirits up. The portages, bugs and obstacles were 10x worse than this trip, yet the team remained remarkably unified and upbeat. The morale on the trip was spectacular and the viewer could feel the unique, special quality of the group. Remember the group hugs at the end? Remember the way you dealt with a broken tooth, diarrhea, sprained ankle? You (and we) never wanted that trip to end. It was amazing.
    This team was dismal throughout. The negative vibe pervades this video. It was intensely depressing.

    At the end when you were dragging canoes through the tundra it looks like an easy flat terrain but here in Alaska that stuff is way rougher than it looks and can be very hard to walk through. But at least it's soft enough to drag a canoe.

    Thank you for the great work you guys do! I would appreciate your opinion.
    I want to buy an Esquif canoe for tripping; 75% Class I to class III rivers, and 25% flat water such as the Okefenokee swamp. I am trying to decide between the Prospecteur 17 and the Canyon. I know the Canyon would hold an edge on moving waters, but I am wondering how exhausting the Canyon would be to paddle on the flat-water... If you could only have one of the two boats for what I described, which one would you choose?.. How does the Canyon and the Prospecteur 17 compare in primary & secondary stability?
