I was going to replace mine until I saw this video. My son and I followed your directions and removed the actuator. We took it apart and cleaned it like you said and it worked great. Thanks
I had the same issue. Followed your instructions and no more popping noise. I used 4 small screw drivers to hold the tabs open so I could separate the case with no damage to the tabs. I thank you for taking the time to share. You saved me lots of money and headache .
Awesome video. Thanks a ton for sharing. The constant popping/clicking sound was driving me insane, and I know if I had taken it in for service they would have charged an arm and a leg to fix the problem. The key was to get ALL of the grease off the slide track. I had made the mistake the first time of leaving minuscule amounts of grease on the track. Then installed it and it went right back to making that dreadful noise. Took it off again, wiped it down 5 or more times with new q-tips and paper towels, installed it, and it's as quiet as can be now. Thanks again!
That popping in my truck was driving me nuts! I thought it only did it when it was running but discovered it also made the noise with the key on. Moved my driver side climate control up alittle and it stopped! Did a quick google search and found this video! Thanks!
Took mine out, and cleaned it the other day. good as new, and saved me 100.00 or so dollars. It was the over travel and dirty contact track and pickup. So far, so good. Thanks for the insight.
I'm hoping this fixes my 99s issue (besides turning it to defrost position) of the constant popping. if not then oh well, nice to hear a young mans voice on a how to. maybe not all knowledge will die off for these ever increasingly aged vehicles.
Ahhh thank you so much for sharing this video. I RUclipsd this while I'm driving because the sound has literally been driving me insane. I couldn't figure out why and I'm so relieved!
Great fix and video! I presume it worked. I'm doing a similar damper for a '93 Silverado. I also did a similar fix on GND contacts for the windshield wiper motor/controller - worked. I'm impressed with the quality of design/manufacture of many of these truck's parts.
On the 2004 Chev Suburban, I see the actuator, but cant figure out how the get to the inner screw. The screw closest to the passenger floor is easily accessible. Any suggestions?
Did anyone have issues with ac blows cold for about 4-5 minutes then blows humid? I also have this popping noise so wondering if that is also the problem.
My 2010 F250 Super does the same thing but only when the temp is set at or above 65 degrees on either side, passenger or driver. Do you believe it is the same issue?
Bravo + Gold Eagle you'll know what it is if you hear it it ticks faster than a second hand on a clock then if you move the driver side temperature up you'll hear it stop
FOR ANYONE WHO IS HAVING AN ISSUE WITH "GRINDING"/PULSATING MOANING SOUNDS (RrRrRrrrRaRaRaRaRRrrrrrrRghhghgggghhhhhh) from hot to max cold - 1) take some of the extra grease and disperse it across the gear teeth 2) BE SURE the drive shaft gear is slid All The Way down the shaft, towards the motor, as much as possible! After fiddling with mine multiple times... priding myself in only breaking one clip initially, until the next few times of opening the case 🙄 I was a little frustrated because this problem continued for me, even after greasing the gears back up.. thinking maybe THAT was it, I finally took a look at the drive gear and decided to push it in towards the motor. Immediately it snapped into place. Thinking "this could be gold or absolute bust," I closed the case to find myself with a Much quieter gearbox, Finally. So I hope this helps you too! Great video dude!! Thank you so much!! I'm So happy.
I thought I'd ran someone over and they were tapping on my floor by the trans hump. Thumping noise ...changed often ..Thumping a second to 3or 4 a second . My noise quit so either the part fixed itself or person fell out from under there . Was wondering wth that was .
Another guy trying to be a technician. The grease you found was dielectric grease which is both a lubricant and oxidation protector and now you've removed it🤦♂️🤦♂️
I have bose quiet control headphones and Im starting to hear the drum roll of clicks this shit is spewing at me. Im guessing its drywall dust since I have a HD with no dust guard Ill just buy a new one. Thank you for this.
and the question everyone wants to know is (drum roll please) .... DID IT WORK!!!!? (hehehe) Thanks for this video, going do mine now... also, mine is already at the stage where it only blows heat out of the driver side. Advances stages of issue. LOL
Dude thank you so much. This noise has been driving me crazy for two years now

I just got a 2004 Silverado and your video is the first and last one I need to see on the issue. Thank you so much!
My noise has been around for nearly 7yrs I kid you not...
Thanks so very much bro!!!

Thanks bud!! I was about to pull the thing apart and replace the actuator. Ended up just needing to clean it, works great now!!
Seriously stoked i just found this video, this noise is driving me insane, and im happily relieved to find out all thats wrong is that its dirty.
Have an 05 lly Duramax and this fixed it right away! Good video!
Thanks, glad it worked for you

I just did this and it worked great, hard to believe that is all it is. But the noise is gone.
Thanks

Thank you! The noise was driving me nuts. 2006 1500 Silverado. 6mm socket.
Really glad it helped, the noise drove me crazy too! Stick around for new content coming soon.
So is it possible that the passenger side that’s deeper in the dash can make this sound too???
My dash makes annoying noises when I put it to cold thank you bro.👍
Thanks. Great problem solving: take it apart to see whats wrong, fix it, and then put it back together again.
Thanks for the input on this. Was reaching for the sledge snd thought I'd check on here first !
😉
W
Wulf Claw Is sledge a sledge hammer. I have a yellow one that work wonders on defective parts. Lol.
Thank you for your help with this issue.
I did this, but now it makes even more noise. Any ideas? 😕
does that make the break lights go off all nigh longg

You sir are a life saver
I Just did the same thing as Jon and really worked, thanks
Mine is a 2011 gmc. It'll click so much it runs the battery down.
Really appreciate it
Will the actuator cause the a/c compressor to stop running
Did anyone have issues with ac blows cold for about 4-5 minutes then blows humid? I also have this popping noise so wondering if that is also the problem.
Where was your sound audible from? My 07 Trailblazer is making a clicking sound from the instrument panel area, right behind the steering column.
My 2010 F250 Super does the same thing but only when the temp is set at or above 65 degrees on either side, passenger or driver. Do you believe it is the same issue?
i took mine apart and put it back now i get hot air when a/c is on
Fantastic video Thank you great help
Good stuff man.. I've been hearing that noise for 2 days now.. Is coming from that exact spot.. Did it work?
Yes!
You can also reset the system to fix the noise. There's a video on RUclips
reset what system?
I'm going to try this on my 2013 Silverado...thanks!
Hope it works
Can someone post a video of what it sounds like?

Daaang... if you're not an engineer, then you should be. Thnx
