I am listening to this 7 years after Mandolin U Srinivas passed away. I have heard this Charukesi ragam by U Srinivas at least 50 times but it is not enough. I love Charukesi & U Srinivas. Can't get over his passing away.
Absolutely incredible incorporation of what we guitar players term "slurs" into an otherwise fantastic technical command of his mandolin playing. A Shooting Star in the global musical community. We remain One.
I wonder why God has a special attraction towards highly talented Carnatic Musicians.GNB,Madurai Mani Iyer,Ramnad Krishnan,G Harishankar, all passed away when they were young and at their mesmerizing peak.....The least expected if any after that is this truly humble, down to earth, charming yet a genius......Srinivasa Gaaru...You have given people like me many many reasons to be happy through your music......How nice it would have been had God reconsidered his decision and send you back to be among'st all of us again ...But that alas.....would just be a dream....Nothing else.......Thank you Srinivasa gaaru for giving us a reason to smile.May you Rest In Peace wherever you are....God Bless You..... :(
Only tears of joy, after listening to this 'Charukeshi' composition! Did we notice that the Mandolin listens to the Maestro: the musical genius and the only ONE Srinivas?
U.Srinivas is playing a Krithi of Thyagaraja - Ada Modi Galade Ramayya Matta La - in Raga Charukesi. He is accompanied in the Tabla a North Indian Percussion instrument.
This Charukeshi alapana is one of the all time best by this genius. Along with G Harishankar he was indeed one of the geniuses in the discipline of our Carnatic music in recent years. No doubt. Ada modi galade , a Tyagaraja masterpiece! Tabla is great, of course, but -- the tenor of the whole song loses its luster in its company. Now we know why mridangam, the only percussion that can mimic a human voice -- particularly swaroms, listen to Palghat Mani Iyer and his prime pupil Palghat R Raghu, closely -- exists. It is irreplaceable no matter how hard new experiments try. Kripayapalaya showre !!! narayanakurupkanthikumar/Pajaro Dunes/Calif
Its an electric Mandolin, I think he tunes it re-la-re-la-re. He is from Andhra Pradesh and plays South Indian or Karnatic music. There are also Guitar players who play this style. Here he plays more North Indian style. He is excellent! A child prodigy, played like this when he was 9 or younger :)
2021 October & I am still listening to this Charukesi piece by the greatest instrumentalist ever. I was in a busy meeting on September 19th 2014 when I heard about his death. I got up from the meeting & wept like a baby.
Is it a different type of mandolin? Looks like a guitar to me with 6 strings, obviously smaller. I've only ever heard of mandolin with 8 strings (doubled e, b, g and d)
Yes. He made it suited to South Indian Classical Music. I m told his father got a Mandolin instrument home and this gentleman as very young kid played south indian classical music which was impressive. I m told, He himself felt it was to be modified to suit to this Music form. Thus GOD appeared in the form of Master U.Srinivas in late 1970's. Very Very Impressive. Unfortunately, he is not amongst us now. ruclips.net/video/2EIy6BjQPs0/видео.html ruclips.net/video/r72BqFkZ7hM/видео.html ruclips.net/video/F2DU1LXpdUM/видео.html
