  • This is my personal ranking of all the main Tales of games from easiest to hardest. I believe most Tales (if not all) are somewhat challenging to a degree, but some are definitely harder than others.

This video came out a couple of months before Tales of Arise. I've played that game and it's HARD. I think it would definitely be in the first five places of my list, but definitely not the first. I still feel at least Xillia 2 and Graces are harder, but that's just me.

Have you tried Tales of Destiny on the ps2 yet ? I think it's the hardest tales game I've ever played .
Attacking according to weaknesses can make ot break your battles , enemies can exploite the game just as much as you do , and most spells are devastating . Also , enemies have revenge values , if you kept landing continuous combos , they eventually break from them and counter with a powerful attack .

Combat system of Arise is not so hard. Easier then Zestiria and even Berseria. All u need is all the characters and some skills. Or, u can obuse Alfen fire attacks and kill all in game. (and yeah u can get ultra weapon in post game. And then even Chaos becomes easy mode)

Came here to post just this!
Its hard, but its rewarding, somehow it makes more sense to me than the newer games. Zestiria and Berseria I have a hard time grasping, halfhearted Buttonmashing works, but in Graces all my moves feel deliberate and rewarding.

@@jonasstenbergkarlsson6061 I actually (in my first playthrough) found Zestiria to be extremely difficult! I have a playthrough(s), where all I'm doing now is running around to get the Eleth to pop me out herbs so I can max the stats. I've maxed all the titles and I know the exact word paths I take with gear. Honestly the easiest was to abuse combat in that game was to make gear with dodge/evade on it and eventually you couldn't be hit even on the highest difficulty. One of the only things I disliked was that you have to use the joystick so much in combat for your combos. Berseria had a great idea when it came to being able to customize your combos.

Zestiria was like trying to understand old books like Shakespeare or Dante's Inferno while doing a handstand and juggling 3 watermelons in the air. Why they tried to make it so convoluded is beyond me. It wasnt hard to beat but trying the harder difficulties was painful.
Berseria on the other hand was like a where-is-waldo book, once you found him everything became easy.

    • @nezkeys79
      @nezkeys79 Год назад

Zestiria isn't hard and people who struggle with it just need to get good imo because it is far better than the simplistic systems of the older games and its a skill issue imo. They dont do dumb things like fake difficulty aka hp sponges. However its not without issues. Some things can be annoying like this...
      1) The battle camera
      2) Bosses gain a god mode of sorts when at low health
      3) Petrification. It can't be cured with panacea bottles so if you get hit by it there's literally nothing you can do but let the character die
Graces F and Xillia 2 aren't difficult either. If you learn their systems they are fantastic and reward you unlike Arise

    • @MoyaiRo
      @MoyaiRo 8 месяцев назад

Zestiria's system lacked satisfaction. Lousy tutorials and uninteresting equipment didn't help either. Other than that the game isn't very hard besides the occasional garbage solo fight (and you can just overlevel and come back). Bosses getting long periods of i-frames during certain attacks is just dumb.

Ludger is still my favourite character ever to play, he's the only one I could ever hit 200+ hit combos with no problems especially with his weapon swapping which makes him technically Dante in Tales of universe, not to mention having Devil Trigger transformation too. He kinda make it hard to play other characters though which is why in Xillia 1 I actually used everyone equally but in 2 it's just too good not to use Ludger coz he can manipulate any enemy weakness with just weapon switching and choosing the right elemental artes.

I'm about 70 hours into Zestiria now after spending like 200 on Berseria, and I gotta say, knowing what little I do about the history of these games, I'm really glad they took such extreme risks with Graces! Berseria's combat is definitely my favorite, and I can see how they looked at the combat in Zestiria and went "okay, this isn't great but we CAN polish it into something great," but based on the way people talk about Graces I'm shocked that they iterated on it at all again ever.
Berseria's system just felt like a really excellent puzzle to me; the game taught me just enough to practice and experiment on my own, & for the whole game I was gradually learning new things and improving. The progression felt just right, & they fixed some things about Zestiria (ESPECIALLY re: combos, both your own and the ones enemies can throw at you) that really made it work for me.
I haven't played Abyss in years, but I remember it being reasonably easy to get by in, but difficult to master (& not really in a fun way? but that could have just been me). Whenever I end up revisiting it I'm gonna crank the difficulty up & test it out!

Very surprised to see Graces and Xillia 2 considered to be so hard. I definitely lost more battles in the Symphonia games than I did in either of those 2 games. Graces had my favorite combat system and was also the only one I bumped the difficulty up on (because iirc, you also got significantly more drops or exp or something for winning on higher difficulty which really helped make Graces go smoothly). And Symphonia I definitely remember having to grind up a lot just to get past that first fire seal boss, though Symphonia gets easier in mid-late game. But Symphonia has the honor of being the only Tales game that I've taken time specially dedicated to grinding levels.
If I had to rank the ones I've played so far from easiest to hardest I'd probably go:
    Xillia
    Abyss
    Xillia 2
    Graces
    Vesperia
    Zestiria
    Symphonia DotNW
    Symphonia
Phantasia (GBA version - controls are garbage)

By the end of berseria I find that is one of the easiest to abuse the combat system, velvet is basically immortal when you transform since any thing that could kill you leaves you at 1 HP BUT you can heal back up by absorbing damage with the skill that actually transforms you!. It becomes a loop that even restores your souls so until the boss gets out of the way you can solo any boss in the game with velvet. I remember several times I finished a fight with everyone dead but velvet just because she is literally unkillable if you keep your combo

I don't know...I loved Graces F and didn't find it overwhelming or anything, though my completionist/grindy tendencies probably paid off, as I made it a goal of mine to obtain and master every title for every character. This naturally resulted in me grinding arts-usage sometimes, and after playing the battle system enough you learn to do just incredible things with it. I played through it again with my mom some years later (on easy, of course, since she doesn't play action rpgs), and she didn't really have much trouble.
Zestiria is the only Tales game I've played where I remember having intense frustration and cursing, and I mostly remember it in an optional dungeon that has a lot of really mean harpy enemies. I hated the skill system but grinded until I eventually had more or less ideal equipment for everyone using it. I also remember running around popping herbs for Sorey until he had max stats. Started on Lailah too, but ran out of patience before I ever saw a fusion with all 19998 stat values (did get strength there though). Gonna have to disagree with you about Symphonia 2 being more responsive and less clunky than Symphonia 1. Emil's basic attacks pushed enemies so far away I actually observed him having to take a step or two closer to perform the arte follow-up (which would still frequently straight-up miss because semi-auto didn't bring him close enough to land them). The physics in general felt floatier and more awkward, like they hadn't quite programmed momentum correctly and characters sometimes just felt like they were translating/sliding through the air instead of leaping or falling under the proper effects of gravity.

Monster recruiting was unique and interesting, especially since each one came with their own name, and I really treasured the ones that stayed on my team. I remember fighting Nerid.. or was Nered, either way, the God of Darkness. The first time I fought her, she opened a hole in the sky and a sword appeared out of it and crashed into the ground. Everyone who was caught in the blast had their hp reduced to 1. I loved every single minute of that boss fight. It's the most memorable boss I have ever had in a game. I replayed it a while back. The first fight in the game against her, she pulled the sword from the sky and all of my party had their hp dropped to 1. Next thing I knew, she killed everyone but Reid and I had to restore his health and get everyone backup. I did, and I "defeated" her. In terms of the 2D ones, all of them can be easily broken when you acquire manual control and can just jump and downslash pretty much every enemy lmao. I try not to do it, but when you're in a jam it makes for a cheap escape.
I recently beat Graces F. I feel like a lot of people have trouble with the battle system (myself included) because Tales trains us to understand the mechanics of creating combos, and requires a skillset similar to a fighting game. Graces F is much more methodical and does most of the combo work for you but the tradeoff is that it expects you to concentrate MUCH more on choosing the right at the right time.
Honestly? It's neat but I prefer older Tales. My favourite system is probably either Symphonia or Abyss. The series has been trending in a bit more restrictive of a direction. The 2D games were broken AF but it ended up feeling really fun by the end when you'd created your perfect combo chain to stunlock enemies. Newer games force you to play by their rules and don't allow you to break things as much - which is half the fun of any jrpg for me!

Graces was the only game to give me consistent game overs and punished the living hell out of me every time I made a tiny mistake. But I loved it!

Legendia, Zestiria, and Graces F have been the most punishing Tales games Ive played but damn they are fun.

I’ll never forget the first time I played Vesperia got the fell arms and proceeded to get the shit kicked out of me by Duke’s 3rd form.

Xillia 1 was the most difficult to me. The final boss will wreck you if you don't figure out how to stop the healing. Took me almost a half hour back then to do so. Turned out to be a 36 minute fight... Lol. But I was victorious in the end!

I'd probably switch places between Symphonia and Berseria, Symphonia can be pretty brutal and its combat system is a mess, having your characters move in 2D while the enemies can move freely. I love this game but it's definitely not that easy 🙈
