I'm so glad you chose Path of Radiance as the best game. Its challenging without being overwhelming, has an excellent story about vengeance and maturity, the side characters aren't ignored and characters like Jill remain relevant and involved with their own side story archs.
I really like these tier list type videos. It helps provide an overview of a long running series like Fire Emblem and allows newcomers to get a brief bit of info on each iteration. I've only played Blazing Blade and Sacred Stones both on the GBA, but this list is encouraging me to try other titles in the series.
3 Houses is exactly what he said, it doesn't feel like a true Fire Emblem but if you give it a chance, which I'm glad I went back to it, then it will grow on you and you'll really enjoy it. I enjoyed all of the 3DS titles as well. I didn't think the Fates games were as bad as many FE fans say. But ultimately Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn are two of my favorite games of all time.

@@acidwizard6528 yeah, I've been coming to that conclusion this past year. I've been a big fan of turn based strategy games since Shining Force 1 and 2 on the Sega Genesis. 2 is one of my top 10 favorite games. It was Sega's answer to Fire Emblem in the 90s, but unfortunately the Shining Force series died out. They were simpler than the FE games, but I still liked them nonetheless.
That will trigger me lol. Im too passionate about that series and have views few agree with like FC > SC. And cold steel 2 is the worst game in the series (though still great)
Draven no its not a bad game, a good game in general in fact. Its just that a lot if simply prefer other fe’s, for me being the jugdral games, tellius games, echoes etc. It’s also pretty easy, playing it hard mode right now and so far the only difficult map I’ve encountered is the ghost ship map

It's been a really long time since they even announced a fire emblem project. We were due for an annoucement at this year's e3, but we didn't get it. This will be the longest fire emblem drought we've ever had maybe.
fe4's map length and difficulty are exaggerated because you can save at the start of each turn; because of that, its one of the most accessible in the series. combine this with its excellent story and inventory system which adds lots of depth, or quality of life (I appreciate things like no promotion items, villages taking longer to destroy and repairable weapons a lot) And this was the first game to add weapon triangle, skills and pairings, so its significant to the series history. This is easily my favourite fire emblem and one of my favourite games of all time.
Neat fact, the 2nd DS game while being a remake of Book 2 from the SNES game, also includes remakes of the Sattaliview BS games (which are also translated in the DS remake).
“Fire emblem binding blade was C tied because some missions were damn near impossible.” Yup. I can agree. I was 4 chapters away before I tapped out. So much has to go right in each and every fucking chapter. And some chapters have you take Roy (who is still a lord) to go to this wyvern rider who I kid you not can one shot Roy. It pissed me the fuck off so much. I can’t explain to you how mad every chapter got me and I just fast forwarded on so many missions because I’d just have to restart. This game was so hard for no reason and don’t even get me started on the bonus chapters.
He hasn't played Berwick Saga yet. I asked him during his stream two days ago. As for me, I would rank Berwick Saga as a masterpiece and TearRing Saga as excellent.
I didn’t really get the point you were trying to make about Thracia’s RNG, it’s the same system Shadow Dragon, Gaiden and their remakes all use including Genealogy.
I'd say if you have the funds to spare, play Path of Radiance. If not, play Awakening, Shadow Dragon or Three Houses. I wouldn't play Radiant Dawn first since Path of Radiance is basically the first part to that story. I wouldn't play Fates now. Just... Don't. Finally, I wouldn't focus on playing any of the Japanese exclusives (only available through emulators) now as they're relatively hard and not recommended for those just starting out. Also, if you want to play the spinoff titles like Fire Emblem Warriors or Fire Emblem Heroes, note that Heroes is a mobile gacha game and Warriors follows the formula of Dynasty Warriors with a Fire Emblem twist. @@Sammmmmmmm617 Fates isn't exactly great. Pretty much everything Three Houses did was better than Fates. The main selling point of Fates was its ability to split off into branching sections to have a relatively different story each time. You have Birthright, which has you (the avatar character) fight the Nohrians while backing the Hoshidans. Then there is Conquest which is you backing the Nohrians while fighting the Hoshidans. Finally, the third route, Revelations, has you join both families together to fight the menacing Vallites, who are the suspected reasons for why the two sides are fighting. Aside from better supports consversations and a bigger roster compared to its predecessor Awakening, this game isn't all that it's made to be. Both paths aren't well fleshed out and lack the built up story that Fire Emblem is known for. Revelations is even worse as the first half has the avatar constantly being backstabbed by both parties and yet somehow (because he's related to both parties) gathers them together to fight the greater odds. I would play Fates only after you've become much more involved in the series as even the charismatic of the fates fans say that it has massive flaws.

C rank: Heroes, Conquest, Revelations, Sacred Stones, Tokyo Mirage Sessions. Haven't played the original Shadow Dragon, Mystery of the Emblem, or Gaiden, and also haven't played Thracia. And yes, I did count the three spinoff titles of Fire Emblem Warriors, Fire Emblem Heroes and, even though I didn't want to, Fire Emblem x Tokyo Mirage Sessions. That last one shouldn't have ever existed.

my first fire emblem game was also path of radiance that and its sequal are my personal favourites too i even played the radiant dawn one even more because i finished the hard difficulty on console that gets unlocked after u beat the (normal thats alrdy hard lol) that where alot of resets that i had to lol but the first one will always hold a special place for me
IMO the remakes of each game are very different from the originals. Both DS games have a whole new gameplay loop due to the class systems. Shadows of Valentia is a lot more faithful but I still think there’s enough changes. Overall I’d actually rank fe3 over new mystery as well. You also forgot about the third fates route, revelations.
My opinions on FE games can vary depending on my mood but if I were to make my own ranking on each of the mainline FE games currently, it would look something like this. I know nothing about RPG's but I wanted to buy one just to add to my game collection & I decided on Fire Emblem: Three Houses. I've been binge watching a lot of your videos to get an idea of what the good ones are. I have a suggestion for a video if you haven't done it already but can you make one about the top 10 battle systems? I heard Xenoblade Chronicles 2 had a good one. I wanted to know which you thought were your personal favorites.
Some probably haven't played them due to their pricing. ...Those that have would most likely agree with you. I say Radiant Dawn is S tier, Path of Radiance is A tier. I just find some of the chapters in Path of Radiance (especially on Hard mode) tick me off to no end.
I love Fire Emblem but I wish they would bring back the Advance Wars series as that series in my opinion is way more creative with their mission objectives as opposed to FE which is typically just defeat all the enemies or the commander, plus I love having to manage money and build troops on the fly as opposed to a set number of characters to begin
Agreed. I'm a huge fan of both, but advance wars was more addictive for me. The variety of unit types, maps and the change in setting (90% of strategy games being medieval European inspired gets bland after a while)

Definitely an interesting take on the series. Its interesting in seeing how each person values different aspects of the games and how it effects their rankings. I find myself both heavily agreeing and disagreeing with a LOT lol. I adore FE7 and FE9, and I think New Mystery is underrated. However it pains me to see FE6 or even fates below Awakening and everything else below Echoes, but then again im a gameplay junkie... though if a story is good enough to grab me that'll still do it for me, so FE4 and FE5 really clicked for me (though I may be an odd duck and found FE4's gameplay really charming, granted I know I might be in the minority for that). I'm also weirdly okay with fates for some reason. I guess as an anime fan it kinda reminds me of those trashy seasonal harem anime's so maybe I'm just immune to the bad story/characters, and the gameplay (especially CQ) sells it for me. idk why the FE series is so diverse in opinions when it comes to rankings but its always fun to watch these kinda videos.
I thought the Fates games were pretty good as well. Not sure why everyone trashed on them. Couldn't beat Echoes yet. I do plan on it but I already tried it and went to other things twice now.
I got Radiant Dawn as soon as it came out. and I thought the game was so freaking hard. I had no idea at the time (2007) about the difficulty error where Easy was actually Normal and Normal was actually hard. It was so hard I got rid of it. Luckily I sold it for a good price, but I would've gave it another chance and played it on Easy if I knew.

I also am a huge fire emblem fan and i we have exactly the same FE taste in the whole list (i gave all the games the same tiers as you did before watching the video), except FE6 (binding blade).It felt a lot of fun collecting all the divine weapons (you can actually use them all here instead of a few at the end!) and getting the true ending. 2 completey different routes midgame. FE7 is my favorite fire emblem of all time and 6 didn't feel much below that gameplay and balance wise (and story wise). I also had no problems with the story, it felt better than the marth stories en miles ahead of awakening and fates. For me it would be on the A tier. I'm a bit puzzled why you didn't like 6 but loved 7 as i had a completely different experience, but maybe it just didn't click with you at that moment.

Consoles should be NES, SNES, Gens, N64, PS1/2/3/4, Dreamcast, Saturn, Gameboy, GBC, GBA Gamecube, Xbox, 360, Wii, DS, 3DS/NEW3DS, Switch, PSP and Vita. Should make for a interesting topic cause instead of the game it's the console's library that counts.

I've watched many of your rankings so far (they're very enjoyable) and this is the one I agree with the most. Hot take: Three Houses is a blast to play through but it also has a lot of wasted potential. The story feels very incomplete and some vital characters such as Edelgard are interesting but not well developed. Three campaigns also make the game quite repetitive. Fire Emblem 7 is indeed a masterpiece and while I haven't finished Ike's game, I was having a great time. Finally, I'm glad someone calls out Fates. It has great character designs but that's it.
Three campaigns make the game repetitive? Huh. If you mean the first half of the campaigns yes. But the second half is very different for every route. This game has more replayability than any other FE game. (Story wise)
Glad to see the love for Sacred Stones, most people put it below FE7. I wasn't clear why you thought 3 Houses wasn't a "real" Fire Emblem game - just because of the monastery sections?
Between the Monastery sections and those damn fetch quests, which you feel obligated to do on harder difficulties, it doesn't feel very much like a FE game, but I still really enjoy it nonetheless.
What I love with FE3H is that it starts almost like some mix of strategy rpg with some highscool simulator, then the story takes an extremely dark turn and things you least expect start to happen. I totally agree that both Genealogy of the Holy War and Thracia 776 should be next for a remake. Maybe expand the "Echoes" series and make that the ultimate "remake" series for Fire Emblem. If they remake those two games then they need to split the story in three: Holy War first half, Thracia 776 and Holy War second half. Maybe even make three games (and hope they split the maps in two for the Holy War games and double the amount of chapters)
generally people rank as the worst, because the game looks and feels unfinished. I personally enjoyed the experience but even tho I can clearly see the flaws of a rushed game
The one thing Erick and I are on complete opposite sides about, and cannot see eye to eye with, is difficulty. For me, a game being challenging is completely necessary, not something that counts against the game. The harder, the better. If a game is too easy, not even the greatest story ever told would save it, because I would simply never engage with said story. Challenge isn't just something elitists like, because they can brag about it; it's a way to interact with the world, being pushed to your limits. I'm not highly driven in general anymore, so if something doesn't challenge me, it doesn't interest me; and if it doesn't interest me, I'll just auto pilot it and not pay attention. So a game being super easy is not just a point I might throw in for posterity, that alone, would take an S tier game down to D or F for me. Challenge is VERY important, in a good way. And no, I don't mean "artificial" difficulty. Where the challenge is elevated by a stupid gimmick or something. And no, you can't just say "well you can choose not to do this quest, or choose not to use these items" because I'm a completionist, and I like to use all the tools I'm given. So if a game has options to make it easier for less skilled players, that brings down the entire game's ranking as a result. That's great for those that need the help, or want an easier time, but for me, easy=waste of my time. I always love Erick's passion, and how versatile his gaming interests are though, so I'll always love his videos; even if we vehemently disagree
Agreed about Fire Emblem Blazing Blade (Sword), though I have yet to finish it. Lyn is why I got it, and she’s my favorite fictional character. Sacred Stones, I’ve yet to beat as well. I go Eirika’s route. No favorite character in this game. Agree with the mess that is Awakening, fun game, beat it once, hope to beat again, but the story needs tweaking. Could’ve done without the time travel nonsense. I would’ve placed Fates on D tier. Yeah, Three Houses could’ve done without the school simulation. The avatar character could’ve been wondering the continent and approached by each lords at different times, only to be asked which to serve. Then the avatar and the lord could recruit if possible other characters.
@Wil E same however I was lucky to start at Blazing Sword F.E 7 and now own every English release plus a romhack cartridge of Binding Blade. My next favorite JRPG franchises would be Final Fantasy, Soulsbourne and The Legend Of Heroes.

I always preferred strategy rpgs over traditional ones, but never played FE games until 3H because I've never had Nintendo systems. Blazing Sword and Sacred Stones are my favorites. Thracia 776 was fine as B tier because of the unforgivable difficulty Never played Binding Blade or any other Fire Emblem games.
Eh... I kinda have to disagree with Sealed sword being on C i think its a B. I mean the Map sound tracks was good. Especially towards the end. The characters were cool i mean i liked Rutger, and Percival, he was a must. Popular with the ladies. Lol and the drama between Zephiel and The princess was intense.. My only draw back was that the game wasnt letting Roy be who he should be... Idk that was my opinion. I loved the intense war towards the end especially fighting against Murdock...
My personal tier list : FE 11 : C FE 12 : C FE 7 : B FE 8 : B FE 9 : S FE 13 : A- (my first fire emblem) FE 14 Birthright : C FE 14 Conquest : B FE 14 Revelation : D (starting from chapter 19 the maps became really annoying) FE 15 : A FE 16 : S I tried playing the older game like genealogy and thracia but I couldn't finish it. The UI and the maps hurt the experience, because of that I wish intelegent system will remake those games. What I love about fire emblem is the game never feel same for each instalment. I respect the developer that had courage to take risk for experimenting and implementing the different game play mechanic.
@@rodrigoisrael9891 Alot of people don't want to risk getting viruses malware on the PC. That being said both games deserve remasters possibly as a bundle because Radiant Dawn was clearly supposed to be a game cube game because it had features and optional story dialogue you could only access with PoR memory card data. Most westerners have not seen or experienced these features but apparentlys relationship ranks carry over. So if you had an S rank with Jill and Harr... they would still have that rank in the game. I'm unsure if characters who died in PoR remain dead in RD if you merge the data.

As long as you know what you are doing and download them from a trustworthy site it should be okay. Now, if they remaster PoR and RD i will throw all of my money towards nintendo because i NEED those remasters.

My list would almost be the same except I would put Radiant Dawn as an A Tier and I'd have Genealogy and Thracia at A Tier as well. And I completely agree that Genealogy and Thracia need a remake SOOOOOOO BADLY!!!!! Those games have stories to rival the best fantasy sagas I've ever read. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how the series went from those incredible epic tales to the foul trash fire that was Fates. Fates was so bad in fact that I almost didn't play Echoes or Three Houses - which I LOVED! I kinda wish we could just kick the whole Fates trilogy out of the franchise.
@@ResurgentRaven Radiant Dawn was a very disappointing sequel. The reveal of who the Black Knight was really damaged the plot but also the fact that I really just didn't like being forced to play as characters I didn't care for instead of Ike and gang. And yeah the difficulty spike also lowered my appreciation a bit. Still, its a great FE game just not as good as PoR. But its leagues better than Fates.
@@benbehzadpour1177 Oh yeah the whole party switch up isn't exactly the best thing when you've already gone through Path of Radiance, or really any fe game for that matter. Probably why I'm so biased against is cause I actually played it first. I actually loved the party switch up because by part 3 you actually have your different trained units in the dawn brigade fighting your own trained units in the greil mercenaries. I mean, the black knight reveal was kinda anticlimactic, but you can actually tell that Zelgius is the Black Knight before Ranulf tells you if you look at the Black Knight and Zelgius' (from when he fought against Ranulf and Skrimir) battle animations. They're identical. Sure it would've been better if no one saw this until the final clash between the two in the endgame, but I can honestly let it slide otherwise. Difficulty wise, I actually found Path of Radiance to be the harder game. They don't give you very much to work with until around chapter 10.

Fire Emblem is my 2nd favorite series of all time behind Zelda, so I agree that there are no D tier games. My top 5 are: 1 - 3 Houses 2 - Radiant Dawn - I beat that on "Normal mode" several times. I guess I'm pretty good at itI 3 - Path of Radiance - They really need to remake the Tellius series for the Switch! 4 - Fates - I guess I'm one of the few people who really liked Fates 5 - Awakening - I bought a 3DS just for this game! Shout out to Sacred Stones because it was the 1st Fire Emblem game I played and it made me fall in love with the series. And I think Shadow Dragon is easily the worst game in the series. Still not a bad game though.
Genealogy is probably the best for most of the fans. My personal favorite is Radiant Dawn, what an amazing game. Story, characters, level design, difficulty everything was good. My others favorite are Path of Radiance, Genealogy and Blazing Sword. I love all the series tho, except Awakening, this is a shit game for me. Even Fates is better (better level design and more balanced game).
@@Haarwyvern If they put as much effort into the story as they did with the game mechanics, difficulty and overall map design then it would've been better. At least for me it would've. And for a game in the late 1990s, I can come up with other games from other franchises that make Genealogy look like a freak show.

You are given one of the most limited rosters in all of FE to fight hordes of brigands by chapter one who all come in swarms of 10, require two units each to kill, and you expect me to jump for joy? BS. The difficulty was so severe I had to put down the game for a month before playing again because I got screwed over so hard. The poor part is that Genealogy has only one difficulty. Oh, you don't like the way the game is executed on that difficulty. Well guess what, TOUGH S***!
It's pretty easy to understand why mystery of the emblem didn't get localised when you follow Nintendo business practices. Nintendo has always been run arrogantly (and arguably unethically), they've been constantly involved in lawsuits with a lot of major players in the industry. This means they work with very few people. So when mystery of the emblem came up to get localised they viewed it like this. The 3ds was on the horizon, they don't like to have big releases near a new console release (think star fox 2), combined with the fact the localisation team that would have translated it was already working on something else. Realistically pokemon black and white 2. If it had been Sony or sega they would have just sourced the localisation and still turned a small profit. But again it was nintendo coming off the wii, so there was a zero percent chance this would happen.
You can actually get an english patched version on ebay for 30 bucks. It's only ds and ds lite compatible though. It's where I got mine, though most people have just used emulators. About what you said about Nintendo's practices, yeah they aren't exactly tactical when it comes to how well they thought they could sell. Although keep in mind that this was before Awakening, and I think they knew that if they tried selling New Mystery, it wouldn't sell very well, and since the recent string of FE games had been selling worse and worse, they probably figured this one wouldn't get a lot of attention. Granted I'm not on their staff, so the only thing we fans can do is infer.
So i played that gane on hard mode 🥴, it was my first Fire emblem game and i hated it because pf the lack of items and money, still won that freacking game though. When i played ñath of Radiance...dammm, that should have been my first FB game 😯, i loved it.
Nice tier list. I have some disagreement like the reason that thracia 776 is infamous (which is the mechanic) and fire emblem 8. Fire emblem 8 is too easy for a standard fire emblem game which kill the enjoyment of the game. Overall its a great list
hmm i had a different experience with 8, and i finished all the fire emblem games (including the SNES ones). Did you use the tower for grinding? If only got exp from the normal levels and with ephraims route on hard mode. i got a decent challenge out of it. Especially on the level on the ship in the sea i had te restart a couple of times to keep everyone alive from all those kamikazi fliers. Definitely not too easy for me. @@rexhurne Problem with FE8 is that it's Seth simulator for the biggest part, and it becomes way too much enemy phase focused later, which is basically "equip your units with Javelin/Hand Axe and press the end turn button". Even without the Tower, I still think it's the easiest game in the series pre-Awakening.
@@paulovianna7435 It's the easiest game in the series period. Even on the hardest difficulty setting it pales compared to Awakenings hard mode. And Awakenings hard mode isn't even its hardest mode.

i really like this series but i got a major complain. With your current system, where the lowest tier D is just mediocre, means there is not a bad game. A mediocre game is that, mediocre, in the middle, so It should be B tier.
Everyone has their own opinion but heres mine: Blazing Blade is the best: Amazing graphics, character models and art, cant grind, really long campaign, weapon and magic triangle, there's light, dark and anima magic. Worst games for me are the two that removed weapon durability.

I'm so glad you chose Path of Radiance as the best game. Its challenging without being overwhelming, has an excellent story about vengeance and maturity, the side characters aren't ignored and characters like Jill remain relevant and involved with their own side story archs.
I really like these tier list type videos. It helps provide an overview of a long running series like Fire Emblem and allows newcomers to get a brief bit of info on each iteration. I've only played Blazing Blade and Sacred Stones both on the GBA, but this list is encouraging me to try other titles in the series.
3 Houses is exactly what he said, it doesn't feel like a true Fire Emblem but if you give it a chance, which I'm glad I went back to it, then it will grow on you and you'll really enjoy it. I enjoyed all of the 3DS titles as well. I didn't think the Fates games were as bad as many FE fans say. But ultimately Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn are two of my favorite games of all time.

I've been a big fan of turn based strategy games since Shining Force 1 and 2 on the Sega Genesis. 2 is one of my top 10 favorite games. It was Sega's answer to Fire Emblem in the 90s, but unfortunately the Shining Force series died out. They were simpler than the FE games, but I still liked them nonetheless.

Draven no its not a bad game, a good game in general in fact. Its just that a lot if simply prefer other fe’s, for me being the jugdral games, tellius games, echoes etc. It’s also pretty easy, playing it hard mode right now and so far the only difficult map I’ve encountered is the ghost ship map

It's been a really long time since they even announced a fire emblem project. We were due for an annoucement at this year's e3, but we didn't get it. This will be the longest fire emblem drought we've ever had maybe.
fe4's map length and difficulty are exaggerated because you can save at the start of each turn; because of that, its one of the most accessible in the series.
combine this with its excellent story and inventory system which adds lots of depth, or quality of life (I appreciate things like no promotion items, villages taking longer to destroy and repairable weapons a lot) And this was the first game to add weapon triangle, skills and pairings, so its significant to the series history.
This is easily my favourite fire emblem and one of my favourite games of all time.
Neat fact, the 2nd DS game while being a remake of Book 2 from the SNES game, also includes remakes of the Sattaliview BS games (which are also translated in the DS remake).

Yup. I can agree. I was 4 chapters away before I tapped out. So much has to go right in each and every fucking chapter. And some chapters have you take Roy (who is still a lord) to go to this wyvern rider who I kid you not can one shot Roy. It pissed me the fuck off so much. I can’t explain to you how mad every chapter got me and I just fast forwarded on so many missions because I’d just have to restart. This game was so hard for no reason and don’t even get me started on the bonus chapters.

I wanna get into the series. I played the GBA ones on an emulator a long time ago and loved it. What game should I buy and play first?
I'd say if you have the funds to spare, play Path of Radiance. If not, play Awakening, Shadow Dragon or Three Houses.
I wouldn't play Radiant Dawn first since Path of Radiance is basically the first part to that story.
I wouldn't play Fates now. Just... Don't.
Finally, I wouldn't focus on playing any of the Japanese exclusives (only available through emulators) now as they're relatively hard and not recommended for those just starting out.
Also, if you want to play the spinoff titles like Fire Emblem Warriors or Fire Emblem Heroes, note that Heroes is a mobile gacha game and Warriors follows the formula of Dynasty Warriors with a Fire Emblem twist.

Yeah Echoes is my second favorite, so I might be biased, but it is a solid game. I would say play it either directly before or after you play Awakening.

@@Sammmmmmmm617 Fates isn't exactly great. Pretty much everything Three Houses did was better than Fates.
The main selling point of Fates was its ability to split off into branching sections to have a relatively different story each time.
You have Birthright, which has you (the avatar character) fight the Nohrians while backing the Hoshidans.
Then there is Conquest which is you backing the Nohrians while fighting the Hoshidans.
Finally, the third route, Revelations, has you join both families together to fight the menacing Vallites, who are the suspected reasons for why the two sides are fighting.
Aside from better supports consversations and a bigger roster compared to its predecessor Awakening, this game isn't all that it's made to be.
Both paths aren't well fleshed out and lack the built up story that Fire Emblem is known for. Revelations is even worse as the first half has the avatar constantly being backstabbed by both parties and yet somehow (because he's related to both parties) gathers them together to fight the greater odds.
I would play Fates only after you've become much more involved in the series as even the charismatic of the fates fans say that it has massive flaws.

my first fire emblem game was also path of radiance that and its sequal are my personal favourites too i even played the radiant dawn one even more because i finished the hard difficulty on console that gets unlocked after u beat the (normal thats alrdy hard lol) that where alot of resets that i had to lol but the first one will always hold a special place for me
IMO the remakes of each game are very different from the originals. Both DS games have a whole new gameplay loop due to the class systems. Shadows of Valentia is a lot more faithful but I still think there’s enough changes. Overall I’d actually rank fe3 over new mystery as well. You also forgot about the third fates route, revelations.

I love Fire Emblem but I wish they would bring back the Advance Wars series as that series in my opinion is way more creative with their mission objectives as opposed to FE which is typically just defeat all the enemies or the commander, plus I love having to manage money and build troops on the fly as opposed to a set number of characters to begin
Agreed. I'm a huge fan of both, but advance wars was more addictive for me. The variety of unit types, maps and the change in setting (90% of strategy games being medieval European inspired gets bland after a while)

Definitely an interesting take on the series. Its interesting in seeing how each person values different aspects of the games and how it effects their rankings. I find myself both heavily agreeing and disagreeing with a LOT lol. I adore FE7 and FE9, and I think New Mystery is underrated. However it pains me to see FE6 or even fates below Awakening and everything else below Echoes, but then again im a gameplay junkie... though if a story is good enough to grab me that'll still do it for me, so FE4 and FE5 really clicked for me (though I may be an odd duck and found FE4's gameplay really charming, granted I know I might be in the minority for that). I'm also weirdly okay with fates for some reason. I guess as an anime fan it kinda reminds me of those trashy seasonal harem anime's so maybe I'm just immune to the bad story/characters, and the gameplay (especially CQ) sells it for me.

I thought the Fates games were pretty good as well. Not sure why everyone trashed on them. Couldn't beat Echoes yet. I do plan on it but I already tried it and went to other things twice now.
I got Radiant Dawn as soon as it came out. and I thought the game was so freaking hard. I had no idea at the time (2007) about the difficulty error where Easy was actually Normal and Normal was actually hard. It was so hard I got rid of it. Luckily I sold it for a good price, but I would've gave it another chance and played it on Easy if I knew.

I also am a huge fire emblem fan and i we have exactly the same FE taste in the whole list (i gave all the games the same tiers as you did before watching the video), except FE6 (binding blade).It felt a lot of fun collecting all the divine weapons (you can actually use them all here instead of a few at the end!) and getting the true ending. 2 completey different routes midgame. FE7 is my favorite fire emblem of all time and 6 didn't feel much below that gameplay and balance wise (and story wise). I also had no problems with the story, it felt better than the marth stories en miles ahead of awakening and fates. For me it would be on the A tier. I'm a bit puzzled why you didn't like 6 but loved 7 as i had a completely different experience, but maybe it just didn't click with you at that moment.
Those divine weapons and prerequisites were so hard. Bro idk man. That game was so hard IMO.

Consoles should be NES, SNES, Gens, N64, PS1/2/3/4, Dreamcast, Saturn, Gameboy, GBC, GBA Gamecube, Xbox, 360, Wii, DS, 3DS/NEW3DS, Switch, PSP and Vita. Should make for a interesting topic cause instead of the game it's the console's library that counts.

TMS was a dumpster fire. You want a crossover done right, then play Warriors. It really is the crossover people wanted.
I've watched many of your rankings so far (they're very enjoyable) and this is the one I agree with the most. Hot take: Three Houses is a blast to play through but it also has a lot of wasted potential. The story feels very incomplete and some vital characters such as Edelgard are interesting but not well developed. Three campaigns also make the game quite repetitive.
Fire Emblem 7 is indeed a masterpiece and while I haven't finished Ike's game, I was having a great time. Finally, I'm glad someone calls out Fates. It has great character designs but that's it.
Three campaigns make the game repetitive? Huh. If you mean the first half of the campaigns yes. But the second half is very different for every route. This game has more replayability than any other FE game. (Story wise)
Glad to see the love for Sacred Stones, most people put it below FE7. I wasn't clear why you thought 3 Houses wasn't a "real" Fire Emblem game - just because of the monastery sections?
Between the Monastery sections and those damn fetch quests, which you feel obligated to do on harder difficulties, it doesn't feel very much like a FE game, but I still really enjoy it nonetheless.
What I love with FE3H is that it starts almost like some mix of strategy rpg with some highscool simulator, then the story takes an extremely dark turn and things you least expect start to happen.
I totally agree that both Genealogy of the Holy War and Thracia 776 should be next for a remake. Maybe expand the "Echoes" series and make that the ultimate "remake" series for Fire Emblem. If they remake those two games then they need to split the story in three: Holy War first half, Thracia 776 and Holy War second half. Maybe even make three games (and hope they split the maps in two for the Holy War games and double the amount of chapters)

generally people rank as the worst, because the game looks and feels unfinished. I personally enjoyed the experience but even tho I can clearly see the flaws of a rushed game
The one thing Erick and I are on complete opposite sides about, and cannot see eye to eye with, is difficulty. For me, a game being challenging is completely necessary, not something that counts against the game. The harder, the better. If a game is too easy, not even the greatest story ever told would save it, because I would simply never engage with said story. Challenge isn't just something elitists like, because they can brag about it; it's a way to interact with the world, being pushed to your limits. I'm not highly driven in general anymore, so if something doesn't challenge me, it doesn't interest me; and if it doesn't interest me, I'll just auto pilot it and not pay attention. So a game being super easy is not just a point I might throw in for posterity, that alone, would take an S tier game down to D or F for me. Challenge is VERY important, in a good way.
And no, I don't mean "artificial" difficulty. Where the challenge is elevated by a stupid gimmick or something. And no, you can't just say "well you can choose not to do this quest, or choose not to use these items" because I'm a completionist, and I like to use all the tools I'm given. So if a game has options to make it easier for less skilled players, that brings down the entire game's ranking as a result. That's great for those that need the help, or want an easier time, but for me, easy=waste of my time.
I always love Erick's passion, and how versatile his gaming interests are though, so I'll always love his videos; even if we vehemently disagree

Yeah, Three Houses could’ve done without the school simulation. The avatar character could’ve been wondering the continent and approached by each lords at different times, only to be asked which to serve. Then the avatar and the lord could recruit if possible other characters.

Eh... I kinda have to disagree with Sealed sword being on C i think its a B. I mean the Map sound tracks was good. Especially towards the end. The characters were cool i mean i liked Rutger, and Percival, he was a must. Popular with the ladies. Lol and the drama between Zephiel and The princess was intense.. I tried playing the older game like genealogy and thracia but I couldn't finish it. The UI and the maps hurt the experience, because of that I wish intelegent system will remake those games.
What I love about fire emblem is the game never feel same for each instalment. I respect the developer that had courage to take risk for experimenting and implementing the different game play mechanic.

Hopefully Radiant Dawn gets a Switch remaster. I wanted to play it after I got my new Wii remotes, but that price BRUH.
Nowhere near as bad as Path of Radiance. I paid over 150 pounds (about 200 bucks) for my copy.

@@rodrigoisrael9891 Alot of people don't want to risk getting viruses malware on the PC. That being said both games deserve remasters possibly as a bundle because Radiant Dawn was clearly supposed to be a game cube game because it had features and optional story dialogue you could only access with PoR memory card data. Most westerners have not seen or experienced these features but apparentlys relationship ranks carry over. So if you had an S rank with Jill and Harr... they would still have that rank in the game. I'm unsure if characters who died in PoR remain dead in RD if you merge the data.
@@Rasengan9000ttt Its not that dangerous, i have played emulators for years (third world, yay!) and never got a malware from it. As long as you know what you are doing and download them from a trustworthy site it should be okay.
Now, if they remaster PoR and RD i will throw all of my money towards nintendo because i NEED those remasters.
@@rodrigoisrael9891 I'd like to play games legally whenever possible. I do have my limits though, I'm not going to buy an NTSC console for region-locked games. So I emulated Arc Rise Fantasia and Tales of Rebirth, and I intend to do the same for Operation Darkness eventually.
Gzus Christ. I couldnt desagree more with this list. Thracia and Genealogy in B tier? FE7 IN THE S TIER? The Story has more holes than a suiss cheese. Cmon man...
My list would almost be the same except I would put Radiant Dawn as an A Tier and I'd have Genealogy and Thracia at A Tier as well. And I completely agree that Genealogy and Thracia need a remake SOOOOOOO BADLY!!!!! Those games have stories to rival the best fantasy sagas I've ever read. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how the series went from those incredible epic tales to the foul trash fire that was Fates. Fates was so bad in fact that I almost didn't play Echoes or Three Houses - which I LOVED! I kinda wish we could just kick the whole Fates trilogy out of the franchise.

@@ResurgentRaven Radiant Dawn was a very disappointing sequel. The reveal of who the Black Knight was really damaged the plot but also the fact that I really just didn't like being forced to play as characters I didn't care for instead of Ike and gang. And yeah the difficulty spike also lowered my appreciation a bit. Still, its a great FE game just not as good as PoR. But its leagues better than Fates.
@@benbehzadpour1177 Oh yeah the whole party switch up isn't exactly the best thing when you've already gone through Path of Radiance, or really any fe game for that matter.
Probably why I'm so biased against is cause I actually played it first.
I actually loved the party switch up because by part 3 you actually have your different trained units in the dawn brigade fighting your own trained units in the greil mercenaries.
I mean, the black knight reveal was kinda anticlimactic, but you can actually tell that Zelgius is the Black Knight before Ranulf tells you if you look at the Black Knight and Zelgius' (from when he fought against Ranulf and Skrimir) battle animations. They're identical.
Sure it would've been better if no one saw this until the final clash between the two in the endgame, but I can honestly let it slide otherwise.
Difficulty wise, I actually found Path of Radiance to be the harder game. They don't give you very much to work with until around chapter 10.
Three Houses managed to become my favorite ❤️

Fire Emblem is my 2nd favorite series of all time behind Zelda, so I agree that there are no D tier games. My top 5 are:
1 - 3 Houses
2 - Radiant Dawn - I beat that on "Normal mode" several times. I guess I'm pretty good at itI
3 - Path of Radiance - They really need to remake the Tellius series for the Switch!
4 - Fates - I guess I'm one of the few people who really liked Fates
5 - Awakening - I bought a 3DS just for this game!
Shout out to Sacred Stones because it was the 1st Fire Emblem game I played and it made me fall in love with the series.
And I think Shadow Dragon is easily the worst game in the series. Still not a bad game though.
Genealogy is probably the best for most of the fans.
My personal favorite is Radiant Dawn, what an amazing game. Story, characters, level design, difficulty everything was good.
My others favorite are Path of Radiance, Genealogy and Blazing Sword.
I love all the series tho, except Awakening, this is a shit game for me. Even Fates is better (better level design and more balanced game).
Genealogy is probably the best in terms of Story only.
Aside from that, it really could've been done better.

At least for me it would've. And for a game in the late 1990s, I can come up with other games from other franchises that make Genealogy look like a freak show.
@@ResurgentRaven I personally like the big maps of FE4, it change from the other game of the series, and you understand that is a big conflict. But yep it's a little to easy and there is some problem here and there.
Still it was a better game than some new FE, despite the gap of year and I find it sad.

You are given one of the most limited rosters in all of FE to fight hordes of brigands by chapter one who all come in swarms of 10, require two units each to kill, and you expect me to jump for joy?
BS. The difficulty was so severe I had to put down the game for a month before playing again because I got screwed over so hard. The poor part is that Genealogy has only one difficulty.
Oh, you don't like the way the game is executed on that difficulty. Well guess what, TOUGH S***!
It's pretty easy to understand why mystery of the emblem didn't get localised when you follow Nintendo business practices. Nintendo has always been run arrogantly (and arguably unethically), they've been constantly involved in lawsuits with a lot of major players in the industry. This means they work with very few people. So when mystery of the emblem came up to get localised they viewed it like this. The 3ds was on the horizon, they don't like to have big releases near a new console release (think star fox 2), combined with the fact the localisation team that would have translated it was already working on something else. Realistically pokemon black and white 2.
If it had been Sony or sega they would have just sourced the localisation and still turned a small profit. But again it was nintendo coming off the wii, so there was a zero percent chance this would happen.
You can actually get an english patched version on ebay for 30 bucks. It's only ds and ds lite compatible though.
It's where I got mine, though most people have just used emulators.
About what you said about Nintendo's practices, yeah they aren't exactly tactical when it comes to how well they thought they could sell.
Although keep in mind that this was before Awakening, and I think they knew that if they tried selling New Mystery, it wouldn't sell very well, and since the recent string of FE games had been selling worse and worse, they probably figured this one wouldn't get a lot of attention.
Granted I'm not on their staff, so the only thing we fans can do is infer.
So i played that gane on hard mode 🥴, it was my first Fire emblem game and i hated it because pf the lack of items and money, still won that freacking game though. When i played ñath of Radiance...dammm, that should have been my first FB game 😯, i loved it.

Nice tier list. I have some disagreement like the reason that thracia 776 is infamous (which is the mechanic) and fire emblem 8. Fire emblem 8 is too easy for a standard fire emblem game which kill the enjoyment of the game. Overall its a great list
hmm i had a different experience with 8, and i finished all the fire emblem games (including the SNES ones). Did you use the tower for grinding? If only got exp from the normal levels and with ephraims route on hard mode. i got a decent challenge out of it. Especially on the level on the ship in the sea i had te restart a couple of times to keep everyone alive from all those kamikazi fliers. Definitely not too easy for me. Didn't feel much easier than fe7.
@@rexhurne no i didnt do tower bc ik tower would make the game easier than usual. Even without tower i still feel it easy except couple of map like the 3 final chapters, the phantom ship and the survive from erika route
@@rexhurne Problem with FE8 is that it's Seth simulator for the biggest part, and it becomes way too much enemy phase focused later, which is basically "equip your units with Javelin/Hand Axe and press the end turn button". Even without the Tower, I still think it's the easiest game in the series pre-Awakening.
@@paulovianna7435 It's the easiest game in the series period. Even on the hardest difficulty setting it pales compared to Awakenings hard mode. And Awakenings hard mode isn't even its hardest mode.
@@ResurgentRaven sure, but Awakening is easier simply because Casual mode exists. If we count Classic Mode only, then sure, Sacred Stones is easier than Awakening.

i really like this series but i got a major complain. With your current system, where the lowest tier D is just mediocre, means there is not a bad game. A mediocre game is that, mediocre, in the middle, so It should be B tier.

Blazing Blade is the best: Amazing graphics, character models and art, cant grind, really long campaign, weapon and magic triangle, there's light, dark and anima magic.
Worst games for me are the two that removed weapon durability.
